The last few days an alarm has come up at 7:15 AM on my laptop running Windows 8.1. I am not interested in having this alarm, but I can't find how to disable it. I searched for 'Alarm', but I can't find where it resides. Where to find this app so I can turn it off?

Disabling wake-on-usb is not an option as i want to be able to wake up my computer when i press a key on my keyboard.I have tried to check in device manager for the power control options of my mouse.
I am using Windows 8.1 pre-installed on a new laptop used mostly for business, and use a mouse, keyboard and graphics tablet. I find that frequently a "Windows Accessories" app Windows Journal for note-taking and handwriting conversion opens a new file for no apparent reason. I have had as many as 20 empty windows start) and want to disable this but can't find away to.
When showing apps as tiles, there is no "uninstall" option for Windows category items (Accessories, Ease of Access, system) as far as I can see.
In Control Panel / Programs & Features/ there is no Windows Accessories Item.
In the Settings/PC settings/Search and Apps/App sizes only a couple of these "Accessories" are shown (e.g. Calculator and sound Recorder) but most others including Journal aren't.
Is there any other way to disable or remove this app?
After updating to update 1, i am becoming more and more frustrated with the inability to disable modern app title bar that was included in the update. I have absolutely no use for it. it just gets in the way, when using remote desktop and other apps. please tell me there is a way to get rid of this useless "feature" (through registry or otherwise).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using Windows 8 Pro 64bit version for a few months now and after a few teething problems I love it. I have disabled the UAC via the control panel, registry and the Local Security Policy editor etc... so now I don't get any popups at all. It's come to a point though where I now want to try out some of the apps but can't because without the UAC turned on I can't run any of them.
My question is is it possible to keep UAC turned off but still be able to run these apps?, I would love to know any tweak I can use to enable this but I won't compromise system stability for it.
I want to turn off WinStore on startup, but in startup program does not show. Fix with registry does not work. I have Windows 8.1.
View 6 Replies View Relatedis there a way to completely disable the OneDrive Sync Engine process from starting up with windows? I can't find it in the startup menu. Sometimes when it loads it will lock up my computer for about ~5 mins until anything becomes responsive. I was able to grab a screen shot of the process loading in the notifications. I just would like to disable OneDrive 100% if possible (running Win 8.1, update 1) as I do not use that service for anything.

A lot of the times I swipe from right to left and the charms bar pops up, when this happens I usually accidentally select something from the bar, then I get angry have to click desktop every time.
I google searched it and I found nothing useful. I already tried turning it off through classic shell, edited registrar keys, but neither of them work.
Am I the only one who sees this as a bad flaw design?

It usually displays in Metro and it can be killed by switching to desktop and back to Metro. However last time it displayed in desktop and and was totally persistent to my killing attempts... So how to disable it to never appear again?
I use windows 8.1 and have enabled boot-to-desktop.
Every time after booting into windows, when I check task manager, there are some metro apps already running in the background, like reading list, onenote and reader.
Is there a way to stop metro apps from automatically running at startup?
EDIT: Ok, the issue resolved itself. I don't know how, but they are not running in the background anymore, except for store which is obvious.
I suppose they were doing some sort of scanning or indexing maybe.
I wish to disable the "read only" feature for ALL my word documents so that I may edit.

It works, but after a reboot and stand-by after a certain amount of time, the option resets itself. This started 1 month or 2 ago.
Also, i notice that in one place it says password wake up is on and another place says it is off.
my current issue is not waking up, every night I put my pc to sleep and the next morning when I click the mouse or push a key either nothing happens or the tower lights up and fans kick on but the screen stays black. and I must power down and restart
I have all new video drivers, I have a feeling it may be my keyboard because sometimes the keyboard doesn't shut down when the pc is put to sleep. It still has all its lights on. It is a Merc steel series gaming keyboard,
The only other weird errors I get in my event viewer are these, and they have to do with windows search.

I had this problem for few weeks now. I set windows to hibernate at night then next morning the power turned on my itself. I can't find out what waked it.
I have turned off automatic windows update, maintenance, wake from network adapter. still the same.
Any magic keystroke combination for "Sleep" or is there anyway to create one? I know about Win+I then Power then Sleep.
Any option to stop scheduled tasks or other triggers that "Wake" your computer from sleep? I find my computer running in the morning after putting it to sleep at the end of the previous evening! I have reviewed all 41 scheduled tasks created by Windows and installed applications and "apps" and found none that have the Wake Computer check box checked. What's annoying is the fact that once woken the computer does not go back to sleep again! I am using the supplied balanced Power plan.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAsus Zenbook ux301LA, i5 Haswell, Intel graphics HD4400, Win 8.1 x64, 2560x1440 display. It came with Win 8, I updated to 8.1. After wake from sleep the scaling is way off, everything is tiny. So I can't use sleep, must do a full shutdown and restart to get back to normal resolution. Asus does not list any graphics drivers for 8.1, only 8. So I got a generic Intel HD graphics driver update from Intel but it didn't fix the issue.
The other strange thing is that it is time dependent. IOW if I wake it soon after I put it to sleep it restores to the correct resolution state. But if I wait longer it doesn't. I put it to sleep and woke it up multiple times and it seems like the change happens after it has been sleeping for about an hour... although I can't say for sure it is always exactly on that schedule. What could be changing in the system while asleep that would do this?
In a way this isn't a big deal since this thing boots up from full shutdown almost as fast as from sleep. But I had intended to use sleep without a password so I don't have to constantly enter that while home, but keep the password on full start up.
When waking my computer from sleep it takes 8 seconds for the screen to come on, then nothing responds for another 25 seconds. I fixed all the errors in event manager, updated the bios, installed all the newest drivers, changed BIOS settings. All to no avail.
All the components (except the MB and CPU) were recycled from my last motherboard which would be ready to go immediately from sleep. My previous build (which ran great) was also Windows 8.1 but the motherboard died. I have no password. The lock screen is disabled. Disabled suspend, and shut off hybrid sleep.
Why the lag? Is there any way to find out what's slowing me down?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a home built HTPC running Windows 8 with Windows Media Center. My sound card is a Silverstone EB01 USB DAC (i.e., it's an external USB device). When the computer wakes from sleep, there is no sound. I can fix this by either (a) unplugging and reconnecting the USB connector or (b) disabling then re-enabling the sound device.
What's worse, it worked perfectly fine under Windows 7.
There are no drivers for this device, it's pure plug'n'play. In case it's relevant, the Device Manager seems to recognise it as a Burr-Brown PCM2072E.
I am running Windows 8 on an AMD FX-8150 w/Liquid Cool with an XFX Radeon 7850 video card. My monitor is an LG Flatron w2753v.
After leaving my computer on for a certain period of time, the monitor goes into DVI power saving mode. On my old computer running Windows 7, when that would happen, I would either hit the keyboard or move the mouse and the monitor would wake up.
However now on Windows 8, when the monitor gets into this sleep mode, hitting keys or moving the mouse will not wake the monitor up, I have to physically reboot the computer in order for the monitor to start working again.
I went into power settings and set the computer to NEVER sleep.
After I put the pc into the sleep mode and then try to open with on and off switch, I can't get in windows 8.1. I get no video signal (image), but the pc stays on. I've been using since 2 days a new video card and I installed the drivers from installation cd. With my previous video card, I'd not suchlike problems.

For some reason, every time I wake up my computer, it disconnects it from the Wifi and when I try reconnecting it, it won't reconnect, then I had to restart my computer to connect it again successfully. View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is Windows 8.1. When I wake my computer from sleep, regardless of how long the computer has been sleeping, it takes 10-15 minutes to complete the process. It takes about a minute or so for the lock screen to show up. When it does appear, everything seems to be working but I click on the lock screen to reveal the password entry and a grey screen emerges but no password box or profile photo. Its as if the password box and photo are just missing on the page. So as I wait for the password box to appear, the lock screen will eventually return. I have to keep clicking on the lock screen to see if the password box has appeared.
Sometimes instead of the grey screen, the loading circle of dots animation is displayed but still behind the lock screen as above.
I have a new Dell Inspiron one 23 touchscreen with windows 8. Sometimes when it goes into sleep mode I can not wake it and have to do a hard reboot.
