Hardware Drivers :: How To Reduce Hardware-reserved Memory Usage

Jun 8, 2013

I used HP Pavilion G4-2216TU, 2Gb DDR3 RAM, Intel HD 4000, and Windows 8 Pro 32 bit, x64 processor.

The usable memory only 935 Mb, fewer than hardware-reserved that take 1,1 Gb of memory.

Is that normal ? that hardware-reserved took more memory rather than usable?

I've check the BIOS, no remapping setting that I can use for. can I remapping / reduce those hardware-reserved usage in such other way ?or how can i increase my usable memory close to installed RAM ?

I've not done any change or upgrade since I bought that new laptop, and its seem memory-load is too busy (I've check with the performance-monitor).

Graphic Cards :: How To Reduce Intel HD4600 Shared System Memory

Apr 6, 2014

I have asus n550ja laptop with 8gb memory, the shared system memory is 1760mb, I usually don't play any games, there is no reason I can use that much graphic card memory. But because of the high shared memory, I cannot use all possible memory for virtual machine or ramdisk, when I use those, they can only maximum use about 6.5gb memory and cannot go higher. So I wonder is there a way I can reduce the intel graphic card shared system memory?

Windows Reserved Partition Out Of Memory Warning - Dell E6420

Jan 17, 2014

I am dual booting my dell e6420, 8 gb ram. I have windows 8 on my HD and windows 8 on my ssd. Since I do live audio work, I keep the ssd system super clean. It doesn't get on the net, etc.

Recently windows prompted me to upgrade my hd os from 8 to 8.1, which I did. Since then, every few minutes, I get a popup saying I have Low disk space on my system reserved partition. It's 300 mb, which seems larger than most, but there is indeed only 1 mb free. But of course when I run disk cleanup, there is nothing that can be deleted!

It's now popping up about every 2 minutes. Very annoying.

I have 2 os's, do I even need the srp? But why on earth would it run out of memory? Maybe because of the dual boot? But I'd think they'd account for that.

should I expand the volume? That just seemed a little dangerous, and hopefully unnecessary.

High Memory Usage - 7.2 Of 7.9GB Of Ram Is In Use

Mar 26, 2014

Ocassionally my computer will become so slow it's almost unresponsive, when I check task manager it says 7.2 of 7.9GB of ram is in use. Even rebooting it, it will come back with high memory usage, sometimes rebooting it, it goes back to normal

Most of the time it is normal and fast, I can have Chrome open and have 10 pages open and usage is about 1GB, but what causes this to happen occasionally when I'm just surfing the internet?

I have Win 8, Intel 4670K, Z87, 8GB DDR1333.

Maintenance :: Memory Usage Is High At 78%?

Jan 3, 2014

I bought this Vaio with Core i5-3210M, 4Gb Ram, Windows 8 64 bit. I had really high hopes for it, coming from an i3. For the first few weeks it worked fine, but then it started to freeze while watching movies. Then it started happening all the time, and the cooling fan became consistently noisy for working at full capacity.

I was used to opening task manager on older systems when this happened to see if there was a non-responding program and force it closed, so I noticed Task Manager offers some more features in Win 8. Here, I see that CPU usage is high, staying always around 70% and from time to time reaching 100. At this moment, the process taking the biggest slice is called VCS System Tray with 58%.

What's perhaps more concerning, is that Disk usage is almost constantly on 100%. And by this I mean it reaches 100 and stays there for long periods of time, perhaps up to 20 minutes, then it falls down a few seconds and up again to 100. During this time the computer is excruciatingly painful to use. To even open a program takes forever. When this happens, it seems that Chrome is at the top of the list of processes with most disk usage, with about 1-2Mbps, but this sometimes changes and the list can be led by System, Utorrent, Octoshape, VCS System Tray, Communications Service...I think it's not related to any process by itself, but its nearly ALWAYS at 100%.

Finally, memory usage is also pretty high at 78%, but I guess this may be because 4Gb is not too much for this computer. I'm hoping to upgrade to 8 soon. Out of the 10 processes consuming most memory, 9 is Google Chrome (how's that even possible?).

High Memory Usage While Idle?

Apr 7, 2013

I just bought a brand new Lenovo U310 Touch and so far I absolutely love it. The only thing I noticed that struck me as odd is that when I look in Task Manager it shows that I am using around 60% of my available memory, but there are no processes taking up anywhere near that much. I also have a desktop I built and its memory usage is nominal when idle so I know this isn't a "standard feature" or anything.

EDIT (5/4/13) - Finally figured it out, it was the ExpressCache program, used a couple tutorials to isolate where the memory leak was and from there I found it was in the running files of ExpressCache, I just went to Uninstall Programs, hit "Repair" on the program and now everything is all nice and happy, no more memory leak.

Maintenance :: Physical Memory Usage Never Exceed To 31%

Jun 28, 2013

No matter what I try to do normally my physical memory usage never seems to exceed 31% even if I'm doing something that means the processor is flat-out. However, I gave the system stressing tool 'HeavyLoad' a whirl and it did deplete all the memory (eventually), but in terms of whether I'm watching 5 HD videos or working on Photoshop it just will not budge.

To find attached resource monitor screenshot and task manager screenshot taken after the PassMark benchmark software memory test has been run.

Maintenance :: 85% RAM Usage On Idle - Large Cached Memory?

May 13, 2014

It seems as if my computer is using way too much RAM for some reason. I currently have 6GB of RAM installed. As soon as I start my computer up, I'm greeted with this warning:

So I decided to open up task manager and see exactly how much RAM I'm really using:

No process is using up any amount of RAM to come close the above number. The most RAM using is 70mb or so from Google Chrome while typing this post. Clicking on the performance tab of task manager gives me this information:

I haven't downloaded anything recently. I had this exact problem a few weeks ago and a system restore fixed it but I'm not wanting to wait on the computer to restore again or for this problem to just come back again. I'm running Windows 8 on a Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332.

Maintenance :: Windows 8.1 High Memory Usage From Startup

Mar 7, 2014

I have a new laptop windows 8.1 (64bit) 8gb RAM i7 processor which should be sufficient for the software I use. However on start-up my memory is already at around 80% and stays like that.

The most seems to be caused by servicehost (network restricted) (11) another program is IAStorDataSvc (32bits) even after i updated Intel Rapid Storage it still seems to take some memory. (My system settings are in Dutch but I guess it's pretty much the same as in English).

What could be the cause of the massive memory use?

Is it the Graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT)?

I understand that Windows 8.1 32-bit can utilise a full 4GB of RAM?

Also in the Task Manager, it reports that I have used "2 of 2 slots", however I have 4 RAM slots inside the machine where the RAM is fitted (4 x 1GB fitted).

Hardware Drivers :: C Drive Losing Memory - 70% Used Up

Aug 25, 2013

I have a question about my C drive.

I started noticing about a week ago that I was slowly losing memory in my C drive without me using it. In other words, it is disappearing. I have seen this before on several windows 7 computers, but I don't know how to solve this problem when I'm running windows 8. (I'm running it on a 128 GB SSD HP spectre.) A few days ago I had 4.79 GB free. Yesterday I had 4.67 GB free. This morning I have 4.66 GB free. All this while I have not saved anything onto my computer, installed any updates, etc.

Furthermore, when I purchased this computer a year ago, it already came with about 70% of the C drive used up. I assumed it was bloatware that was taking up the space and have since given up on removing it, but I'm growing suspicious that it has something to do with the disappearing memory.

1) Open sysprep (shift+f3) and installed office 2013 and other stuff
2) Generalized the image, captured the install.wim with dism and reduced it with winreducer
3) Created an autounattend.xml file to skip the oobe

Everything works fine, except from the system that keeps asking me for a serial, even if i have my ei.cfg file set up well. If i don't use the autounattend file, it doesn't ask me for a serial, but if i use it it does. Please note that the serial is the one for the activation, not for the installation.

Audio :: Change (reduce) Maximum Volume?

Sep 3, 2013

So, the system volume in the system tray goes from 1-100. 1 is comfortable. 3 is loud. 6 is ear-splitting.

Is there anyway I can redefine the values for the system volume and set the maximum to like... 10?

Any time I hit the volume buttons on my keyboard to lower the volume, it goes from 1 to 0 and I can't hear anything, so I hit the volume up button and it goes from 0 to 3 and it's way too loud.

Right now, I have the volume set to about 3 most of the time, with individual apps' volume controls set really low (like a game set to volume "0.5" out of 100).

This is just ridiculous. There must be a way to redefine the value for the system volume. Some settings file I can edit or something, if not a nice GUI method.

No System Reserved Partition

Jan 26, 2014

Install 8.1 Pro over email, he gets to the HDD selection screen in setup, deletes the old Windows 7 partition, deletes the old 100MB System Reserved partition, creates a new partition as normal

At this point it should have asked him to allow setup to create a new 350MB system reserved partition, but no, it just automatically began installing 8.1

I told him, let it complete install, then check disk management to see if it has created the 350MB partition and this is the screenshot he sent me

why his storage drive is Dynamic, could this be why there was no system reserved partition created on the main drive?

2 System Reserved Partitions After Migrating OS

Oct 8, 2013

I migrated my hard drive using Paragon which was running Windows 8 a few days ago from my 500GB to my 3TB hard drive. It worked fine for a while however it's now been acting up recently. I noticed that the system reserved partition on my new hard disc (G: ) is only "Active, Primary Partition" and I still have a system reserved partition on my old hard disc (E: ) which is "System, Active, Primary Partition" so I'm guessing it's still somehow tied to my OS (even though I formatted my old hard disc as I want to set up a dual-boot system with Linux Mint), and the fact that whenever I start up my computer it says it's repairing E:.

What to do to make it so the system reserved G: partition is the "System, Active, Primary Partition" and how I can merge/format the E: and F: partitions on my old hard drive after?

I know the little mistake I made with the 3TB drive only being recognised as 2TB.

Windows Won't Use Hardware Reserved 4gb Of Ram When 6gb Is Installed

Jul 28, 2013

I'm on Windows 8 64-bit on a Toshiba Satellite L750.

My computer has constantly been a pain and has not once been completely usable. There is always some sort of flaw. I deleted everything and installed Windows 8 last week because it seemed as though only 2gb of my 6gb of ram was being used, and I wanted to installed Win 8.

Currently in the Resource Monitor I have 2 gb in use/free and 4gb of is labelled 'Hardware Reserved' and doesn't appear to do anything.

I have spent the past two hours trying out different methods to get it to work, but none of them did, and on the forums I looked at there seemed to be no real solution and the threads just trail off into unrelated problems.

I really need this 4gb to be active so I can actually use my computer properly and use the full 6gb of ram that came with the laptop. This problem has been around on Windows 7 and still exists after doing a fresh install of Windows 8.

System Reserved Partition On Disk1?

Dec 14, 2013

So that is a screen shot of my disk management screen. As you can see, disk0 and disk1 both have system reserved partitions on them.

Disk0 is a SSD that I only want Windows, Office, and possibly my video and photo editing software on it.
Disk1 is a 2TB SATA HD that is split into 2 partitions used for programs on 1 and media on the other
Disk2 is a 2TB SATA HD that is used just for Media storage, and I'm thinking about adding a partition for backups

What the 25MB partition is on Disk2. I also don't know why I cannot access the system reserved partition on Disk0, and why there is another system reserved partition on Disk1 that I can explore, and contains the boot folders.

How did this happen in the first place? Is there anyway for me to fix this issue without wiping everything? I have done some searching and found quick fixes but haven't found an explanation as to how this happened in the first place.

I also would like to create repair DVDs and a full system image of my C drive, but have not done either of these before.
