Graphic Cards :: How To Reduce Intel HD4600 Shared System Memory
Apr 6, 2014
I have asus n550ja laptop with 8gb memory, the shared system memory is 1760mb, I usually don't play any games, there is no reason I can use that much graphic card memory. But because of the high shared memory, I cannot use all possible memory for virtual machine or ramdisk, when I use those, they can only maximum use about 6.5gb memory and cannot go higher. So I wonder is there a way I can reduce the intel graphic card shared system memory?

My computer is hp envy dv6 7280sf notebook with 2 GPUs intel graphics HD 4000 and Nvidia Gefoce 630 M running windows 8 64x.
After making an free upgrade online for windows 8.1 which run successfully, both gpus were ok...
But after receiving a windows update with new drivers for intel graphics 4000 gpu , after install and restart , the computer freezes on blank black screen at windows startup with no mouse or anything only backlight.
So safemode was succeful but i figured that the update for windos update was the cause and graphics drivers were installed so i removed the drivers for intel graphics and itried to reboot the computer so the restart was succeful but the intel graphics card was unistalled and no drivers were automatically installed so i tried to download and install the drivers from hp and intel website for windows 8.1 however the install fails.
Automatic install from device manager failed both online and from computer and even from manual driver selection.
So therefore the install failed in safe mode , and the high def audio device ( on screen audio possibly) failed and the device was not recongnized (no drivers installed) so i'm stuck without anydrivers for the integrated gpu and the games are no longer able to run normally even if the nvidia card is on.
I tried downloading an installing Windows 8 drives but it failed to install also , for instance any new install of drovers seems to fail for me even for external usb hard drive.

When I installed the Video card, I either disabled, or uninstalled, the Intel HD 3000 Video adapter. I am now having issues with the card and wanted to try using the Intel graphics, before replacing the card, but they are no where to be found. "Scan for hardware changes" produces nothing.
They do not show up under display adapters in Device Manager, so I can't enable/install them. I d/l the last 2 versions of drivers form Intel, neither will install -

I see that many Cedar Trail devices (Intel Atom N2600 with Intel GMA 3600/Power SGX545) run Windows 8 quite well due to its dual core architecture. However, when using the Intel's currently supplied GMA 3600 driver (dated 1/2012), all Windows 8 Metro apps crash when attempting to run them. I cold use Microsoft's default display driver, but with that one, I'm limited to 1024 x 768 and sleep won't work.
So far, there is no word from Intel on whether new GMA 3600 drivers for Windows 8 will emerge. Asus thinks that new drivers will never be possible. However, it appears that some Atom Z2760 devices like Acer's W510 may be powered by GMA 3600 / SGX545 after all. Of note, Samsung's Z2760-powered Series 5 tablet has some Intel GMA drivers available for Windows 8 via this link.
I figured I'd try them on a Fujitsu Q552, which has GMA 3600. The error message I get with Windows 8 Pro RTM is "this driver does not support this version of Windows" which seems weird given that I'm running Windows 8 Pro.
I'm not sure if the INF can be modified to support Cedar Trail devices, particularly since the GPU appears to be the same, albeit at a different clock speed (just like GMA500 vs. GMA600). I remember seeing this about some modded drivers that XDleader555 made for GMA500/600 -- interestingly, some versions of EMGD drivers (like 1.10) seem to work well with GMA500 devices like Fujitsu's UH900 with Windows 8, in my experience.
Summary of Links:
Intel's GMA 3600 Driver for Windows 7: Link
Samsung Series 5 Slate GMA Driver for Windows 8: Link

My netbook(Samsung NC110 with 1024*600 Screen Resolution and Intel GMA 3150) is running Windows 8.1 x64 now. I want to use all features of Windows 8, so i want to set Custom resoltion like 1366*768. I was trying to change some keys in the regedit, but the picture was very bad, cause my screen is 16:9, and 1024*768 or 1152*864 resolutions is 4:3. I want to get some utility to set Custom Resolutions, that bigger that real resolution of my display.

I just wanted to know if it was possible to use Intel Mobile 4 Series Express Chipset drivers with Windows 8. I've read that you could use the drivers for Windows 7 in Windows 8, but I haven't really proven that to be true.
I keep getting this error:
but I really don't get why I'm getting that message - it's giving me this message like I'm trying to run the software on a computer from the '90s. It really doesn't make sense to me since just about all other software can run on newer operating systems.
All I want to know is if it's possible to install these drivers on my computer, and if not, if there's a patch or a substitute.

My laptop (Acer Aspire E1-571) refuses to install the Intel VGA driver. I've tried via the Acer Live Updater and manually through the Acer and Intel website. I am assuming this is the cause of the fake dead pixels on my screen, the terrible quality of videos and the reason the screen freezes when playing any video game.

I have been getting these errors in Event Viewer intermittently, every 1-2 weeks since upgrading to Windows 8.1 . I have an HP m6-1158 (specifications linked).
I had to get rid of my last computer because of constant BSODs because I changed out the graphics drivers so often. That's why I'm reluctant to do it again. A friend advised me to do it only if there's a problem, otherwise leave them alone. If I do update them, he said, it's best to go through the computer manufacturer. Last time when my computer failed, I installed drivers from AMD, so I have been avoiding theirs and Intel's websites.
With this system, that I've had since May of last year, I haven't been able to update the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 with this Windows 8 driver or this Windows 8.1 driver. Each time I tried, I got an error that my computer does not meet the necessary specifications. Therefore I left it alone and the only driver installs recorded in Device Manager for it are from when I bought the system in May 2013 and the 8.1 update in October.
The Radeon driver is from 2012 and came with my computer. According to Device Manager, it reconfigured or reinstalled for 8.1 but the driver version has not changed. I have not had any major issues with gaming performance. I tested Far Cry 3, which runs great.
I recently installed the game Papers. After constant crashes on startup, I contacted support, who advised me to change the AMD switchable graphics options for the game to High Performance. After that, it runs fine. That leads me to think that there is an issue with the Intel driver.

Today I tried to install the new BETA driver for my Intel HD 4600 Integrated Graphics unit, however, regardless of installation through through my driver with the extracted driver-ware, or through an .exe nothing seems to work.
I either get the "system does not reach minimum requirements.", or "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer"

Sometime ago my old Nvidia GTX560 Ti died. I don't have the ability to replace the card at the moment so I've been using my onboard Intel HD 4600. I must say I'm pretty impressed by what that little GPU on die can do.
Currently I'm on driver 10.18.10.3621 Let's call it the New driver. What happens basically is that many games (specifically OpenGL and possibly?? older DX games) have rather severe graphics corruption. Basically textures flicker wildly, sometimes polygons draw at wild angles. It makes me think of some sort of memory corruption.
Also, the FPS can vary wildy, games stutter, etc. Newer games (Dx9+) do not seem to have this issue.
Here is a demo video. Note that it is *far* worse IRL, the recording software is only picking up a small amount of the issues. Games are almost unplayable. [URL] .....
Here is the intel information center details.
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
Report Date: Monday, July 28, 2014
Report Time [hh:mm:ss]: 10:53:24 PM
Driver Version: 10.18.10.3621
Default Language: English (Australia)
Installed DirectX* Version: 11.0
[Code] ....
I tried to downgrade to the previous version to see if it would work. Version 15.33.18.3496. Let's call it the Old driver. Surprisingly enough, all of those issues disappeared. Games ran perfectly smooth with no artifacting. However sometimes on occasion the graphics driver itself hard crashes. The screen flickers of rainbow colors very rapidly... I've never seen anything even remotely like it. It seems like through google that this "Rainbow screen of death" is an issue of a rather fatal Intel GPU crash. That would seem likely since it has only ever appeared on THIS driver version with THIS GPU.
[URL] .....
So, recap. The new driver is completely stable, but many games, specifically and OpenGL PERHAPS DirectX games suffer from really strange artifacting of sorts. The old driver is completely fine and stable, but crashes the system.
So I'm forced to use the new driver and really limit what I can play. I'm not sure what direction to go next. I realise I have no left much info but I'm unsure as to what information is required. I do not believe there is any hardware issue otherwise I'd of seen other indications. It is certainly not a heat issue as I have rather effective cooling and I'm in the middle of a rather cold winter. Besides I've monitored the temps.

I bought a VGA splitter to be able to connect all monitors but what I discovered is that it still recognizes it as a second monitor. I have the screen on my laptop extended with the second one but I cant extend the second one to the third one. It just duplicates it. Is there any way I can download software to make it recognize the third monitor?

I have a 2GB GeForce 640GT video card. It has 2GB onboard and windows 8 is using an additional 2GB of ram for it. I don't do gaming or heavy rendering. Occasionally I use google earth and a few other 3d mapping apps. I don't see how any of these need 4GB of ram to do this. This 2GB of system memory is 25% of my entire system memory. This card, in an older PC used no system memory under Windows 7.
How can I reclaim this ram? If I cannot, and add more ram will it take even more of that?
nVidia says this is a windows issue and not a driver issue but I cannot find anywhere in windows to tune or change this.
See the attached System Information from the nVidia control panel.

I used HP Pavilion G4-2216TU, 2Gb DDR3 RAM, Intel HD 4000, and Windows 8 Pro 32 bit, x64 processor.
The usable memory only 935 Mb, fewer than hardware-reserved that take 1,1 Gb of memory.
Is that normal ? that hardware-reserved took more memory rather than usable?
I've check the BIOS, no remapping setting that I can use for. can I remapping / reduce those hardware-reserved usage in such other way ?or how can i increase my usable memory close to installed RAM ?
I've not done any change or upgrade since I bought that new laptop, and its seem memory-load is too busy (I've check with the performance-monitor).

My Intel HD 4600 graphics puts 3 little apps to be started automatically. I know they are related to: intercepting hotkeys - hkcmd.exedisplaying tray icon - igfxtray.exedisplaying settings GUI - igfxpers.exe The thing is that I don't use hotkeys and have disabled them in Intel Graphics options, I've also removed Intel Graphics icon from the tray.
Thus, I'd expect the first two Intel apps to be removed from items set to auto-start at system bootup. However, they are still there. Is it correct? Shouldn't they be disabled when related functions are turned off?
Is it safe to simply delete the related registry entries and leave only the last app?

I have two hard disks, and I have a system image that I made of the OS, it is stored on the second disk, the one without the OS. Both disks have sharing turned off.
What happens if I can't boot into Windows, and I want to use EaseUS backup to restore my system? Will I be able to access the system image, if I boot from the EaseUS live CD? Or will I be denied access, because it is not a shared disk?
And generally speaking, is it advisable to have sharing turned off, or on? I am not on a network, but I have several user accounts on the same OS. What security settings are good for my situation.
Okay, experience is the best tutor. I booted from the CD to see what would happen, and yes, it can read the system image file off of the hard disk. But I would still like to know what are the security settings for sharing etc.

I'm building a system for cryptocoin mining, and am having a little problem with getting Windows 8.1 (home, not pro) to run the 3rd card (GPU) My equipment is:
Gigabyte 990 FXA UD3 MOBO
AMD Vishera CPU
2x4 gig Corsair Ram
3x Sapphire r9 280x Video cards
1000w Corsair PSU
Scandisk SSD
All parts are brand new.
Here is the problem... everything boots just fine and runs with 2 of the GPU's installed. I have the latest AMD 13.12 drivers, and the AMD APP SKD installed. When I add the 3rd GPU though, windows will auto detect it as a Radeon 7900 with the caution sign, AND/OR a r9 200 series card, also with the caution sign, most times BOTH. Then it randomly freezes the system. A couple of times I got it to run long enough just by luck I guess, to install the 13.12 drivers on the 3rd GPU, but then in a few minuites the system would freeze again.
2 GPU's run just fine, the problem only shows up when the 3rd card is installed, and it happens on any of the 4 16x slots, or both 1x slots on the MOBO. It doesn't matter if the GPU's are directly on the MOBO, or on 1x16 risers. There are plenty of folks running this set up with up to 6 GPU's, so I know it can be done, but I must be missing something somewhere in the windows set up.

I've got a bit of a strange issue that I haven't had with previous OSes on this PC. I'm running a Dell OptiPlex 380 with Win 8 x64 at the office and I have to run 2 video cards for all of my screens. I have a GeForce 8400GS in the PCI-E slot and a GeForce 6200 in the PCI slot.
Previous to the Win 8 install, it worked fine. Booted exactly as I had shut it off. Now, with 8 - it's killing my PCI-E card presumably when it puts the screens to sleep when I leave for the day. So I'm coming in to all of my windows being moved to the PCI card's monitor (only one hooked to it) and I have to reboot to get PCI-E card to come back.
If I check the screen properties, I see only the screen hooked to the PCI card. I've changed the setting in the BIOS for the first video card to Auto and also tried the PCI-E selection and it's the same either way.
Why on earth would it default to the PCI card rather than the PCI-E card?

I have a new HP Envy h8-1414 and have it pretty well set up the way I want it. It seems to be working out alright.
Now I would like to migrate the system to a Intel SSD. Under Win 7 on another machine the process was very easily done by using Intel's Migration software. That process did not have to deal with and EFI BIOS but under the new HP it will have to deal with it. Also, I hope it will migrate the Factory Recovery partition. (The Win 7 is a home brew so there was no factory recovery involved.)
Does Intel's Migration software will take care of both the EFT stuff as well as the factory recover? If not, will you recommend a process that will do so as foolproof as possible?
I thought of creating a system image of the spinner and using the Win 8 recovery disc to restore it to the new SSD. Will that work?

i got 2 problems:well first one is that i can't update to windows 8.1 as the update always hang on 82% and after that my laptop
automatically shutsdown i don't know whats the reason is and that's why i am stuck at windows 8 till now although have 8.1 ISO but i don't want to install it as i have to erase my my windows 8 which came pres-installed so i will loose my genuine windows 8 .now i want to know what if i open the 8.1 installer and install it from a virtual tool like Deamon although it gives an option to keep files app setting safe but i fear that it would conflict with 8 and i would have to format my laptop then ok now to the major problem i just recently purchased Watch Dogs and installed it.I played the first mission and got busted so the mission failed and it began to reload and then a error pops up saying watch dogs have stopped working upon googling i found out that this is due to DUAl AMD Graphics so they stated that i should disable it but i cant find any option of disabling DUAL Graphics.

I have Windows 8.1 x64 installed. In the task manager, it shows me that 35% Memory is used. Now, when I add up all the Memory MB's within the task manager it goes to around 1100MB maximum.. On my machine, I have 8GB RAM and it also shows the same in the system about window since I have the 64-bit windows installed.
Doing a quick calculation of (1200/8000)*100 = 15..So, my system memory should display 15% used. Then why is it still showing around 37%? I have also tried running virus scans but have no infections as such... Also, one of the biggest memory hoggers is the 'Service Host: Local System'.
