I suspect that my CPU core parking plays a part in my PC's performance especially when I'm running games. I was wondering about the best way yo go about Unparking them. Should I try to do it in the bios or through the registry somehow? I tried using a piece of software that supposedly unparked the cores in my CPU but it turns out, that it really didn't do anything at all.

I unlocked my AMD Phenom II X2 CPU to 4 core, but the Windows not show it. The Task Manager not show it and CPU-Z show only 2 cores. But the Device manager and a BIOS shows all the 4 cores.
I found this solution for the problem, but it is not working. When I do these steps the Windows restarts, but nothing happens. Maybe because I use a Windows 8 and a never version of EasyBCD.
What can I do for working 4 cores?
Windows 8 or 8.1 upgrade....
I just purchased new Insignia multi-card reader connected to machine, got the windows connected sound, but nothing in the windows exporer pane (what was My computer in XP and Win 7)...went ahead and connected my cf card... still nothing, should show Nikon D3 (all may cards are named for the camera they get shot in ) ... ???

Since refreshing win 8 my DVD drive doesn't appear in 'computer' and doesn't boot from the win 8 disk. The green light on the drive flickers and you can hear the drive reading the disk.

I am currently running Windows 8 64 bit and when I go to "My Computer" it is only showing my C: drive. I know my other drives (internal, external and dvd) are working because I can enter the directory name (ie. H: or E:) into the address bar and the content appears. Is there any way to fix this problem so that they show up in "My Computer"?

I have a lenovo G505 laptop running windows 8.1 and i am having issues trying to install my bluetooth USB adapter, a belkin F8T017.
I have tried installing the drivers but it doesn't recognise the device during the installation, and when I check device manager it shows as a HID compliant Mouse, i have tried everything i can find on google, tried installing the vista drivers in compatibility mode, and repeatedly uninstalled the device in DM, even tried to update the driver software and pointing to the correct drivers but as the drivers are old it keeps saying the drivers installed are the most up to date (even though they are wrong) it does not recognise it as a bluetooth adapter, and it works in my fiancee's laptop and my desktop which both run win7 ultimate.
My Seagate Portable Drive seems to work as the green light comes on.
Screen shot of my Disk Management below. Am I missing something?
Other solutions have been to right click and assign a drive, but those listed below other that the C: don't allow.
Using OS Windows 8.1
"Restart to repair drive errors" keep showing up after reboot !!
it's showing again & again....how to fix this ...
this is windows 8 not windows7
I was listening to music and surfing net on my Windows 8 running HP 650 laptop, when suddenly everything froze.I restarted the laptop by hard pressing the power key. But now at the start-up, the laptop is showing "No OS was found on Boot Drive, please install OS and try again".
When i used the windows 8 DVD for refreshing/resetting it, it says can not refresh because the drive is locked.
i tried running linux from a live image, but that linux also does not list my HDD when i use GParted to check.
I also tried doing a fresh installation from my Windows 8 DVD but when it asks for location to install Windows to, it does not show any drive!.
I just did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro on my 3 years old Asus Laptop.
Everything seems to be working fine, except for the battery indicator and some Asus Fn keys..
The battery cannot be charged, it keeps showing 0% charging even after a few hours.
I tried disabling and re-enabling the Microsoft ACPI-compliant battery driver, but to no avail.
My SSD (Intel 60GB) was becoming too small to hold my Windows 8 system partition so I found another use for that SSD and went back to HDD. I transferred whole SSD to HDD with Paragon Backup & Recovery 2013 free, and now the system gladly boots from HDD.
But Windows 8 is somehow still thinking that they are running on SSD. For example "Optimize Drives" (Ex Windows Defragmenter) shows "Solid State Drive" as media type and probably because it can't access TRIM functions, it is unable to defragment the drive, so it is yelling that "Optimization is not available":
How do I convince Windows 8 that they are running from HDD again?
I have tried to remove this disk from "Disk Drives" in Device Manager, also I removed/reinstalled everything under "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" and "Storage controllers" without any success.
I am running Windows 8 which came pre installed with my hp notebook, but all I see in system properties is "Windows 8" and I typed "winver" into run and all I see is "Windows 8" and nothing about an edition
I need to know this because I am getting an SSD and will need to make a Windows DVD so I can do a clean install onto it.
So there was an update for windows 8 and after that it stopped opening the grub menus and it automatically goes to windows. I know it can recognize the drive with Linux on it because it shows it to me in file manager. Prior to that I unplugged and rep lugged the led plugs but I don't think that was the cause. So how do I show the grub menu?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get embedded album art to show in W.Explorer for m4a Mpeg4 files. I am not talking about the art on the folder but the art in the files itself. Mp3 shows up no problem but m4a is being difficult.
Any easy solution aside from using a shell extension.
The only possible solution I found in another thread and will post it here: "I fixed the problem as it was mainly due to corrupted registry for some strange reason.i imported the .mp3 dile extension key from registry and opened it using notepad and replaced all .mp3 extension with .m4a and saved it as .m4a.reg and run it and had to do a system restart after that thumbnails again started showing up in windows explorer as normal.such as in the below screenshot"
My question: I don't have a corrupted registry as I just did a fresh install only a week ago. So, is it possible for me to edit the registry as this person suggests? how would I go about doing so exactly? I have no experience messing with registry files .

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using windows 8.1 and for some reason add/remove programs is only displaying about 18 programs. This is a new laptop, and it wasn't doing this a few days ago. I've downloaded a couple other uninstallers (IObit Uninstaller and Decrapifier), but they both display the same thing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently converted to Windows 8(.1) from 7. When I had seven I'd play games in windowed (borderless) mode and tab out to my other monitor. It left behind a taskbar at the bottom overlaying the game I was previously on. I found this actually kinda useful. Now in Windows 8 it only shows if I tab to a program on the same monitor as the game, and not if I tab to a program on my other monitor. Is there any way to change this?

I upgraded my new refurbished Dell 15 7000 from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. Now, my hidden recovery drives are showing on "My Computer". On Windows 8, they were hidden so the user, or softwares, can't access the partitioned recovery drives.
After upgrading to windows 8.1, they are all visible on "My Computer" and files are be written on them. How can I hide these drives? I am afraid of doing Windows Update or installing Office 365 since they extract the files on a different drive and move them back to C drive.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Windows 8 Enterprise RTM x86 on FSC V3505 laptop and so far the OS has been working for a month. However, Recently I tried to access "Control panel -> Indexing options -> Advanced -> File types" which caused the Indexing options windows to close. Similarly, trying to access "Control panel -> Default Programs - > Associate a file type or protocol with a program" causes windows explorer to crash. The Event Viewer reports are shown below. Both options I am trying to access are supposed to show a list of file extensions. I am trying to figure out what is the reason for this behavior and possible to correct the issue without reinstalling windows from scratch. System restore is not a good option since there are only two restore points corresponding to recent time points.
Attempting to access : Control panel -> Indexing options -> Advanced -> File types causes the following error in Event Viewer :
