View 5 RepliesI m using Windows 8.1 and i m getting one issue.. Video file Thumbnails not showing in My Laptop.. Check screenshot ::-
In This ScreenShot .avi and .mp4 File exist.. But not showing thumbnails.. And here is My Thumbnails View Setting ::-
I have checked in the only two places I was aware of that would cause this:
Folder Options - View ....however, there is no option there to check show Thumbnails. I believe this option should be there at the top, but it isnt.
I also went to Properties of My Computer, Advanced, Performance. It is checked there to show Thumbnails.
But for whatever reason, I only see icons when I should see thumbnails. And yes, I have changed the view to Medium, large, extra large.
Recently I installed a fresh copy of windows 8 on my PC. it was nothing wrong with it till I installed Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10 (v. 10.1.0.867) & did a reboot.
Now non of my files including picture, audio & video files show thumbnails or even tags (ex mp3 files). I've tried the solutions stated about turning thumbnails on & off with no luck. in my folder options the option "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is UNCHECKED.
I also have some difficulties pinning folders to windows explorer taskbar icon since then.
I wish to upgrade my pc from Windows 7 Home Premium 64 to Windows 8 Professional 64.
I have purchased and received the Windows 8 Professional (Upgrade Edition) 32/64 DVDs.
Do I need to disable Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2013, before I proceed with the upgrade (Keeping all apps, settings, and files) ?
Would I need to reinstall NIS 2013 after upgrade is completed ?
How long (on average) am I looking for the upgrade to fully complete from start to finish ?
And finally, does everything transfer successfully (as I'll be using the 'Keep all apps, settings, and files' option) ?
I've used the method 2 from the sevenforums tutorial to include a network folder in the Picture Library. In Windows 7 it works with thumbnails but not in Windows 8.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNot matter how many times I let Explorer build the thumbnails, after any reboot or shutdown/power-on the thumbnails get erased and I have to rebuild them again. It happens with all images and videos the same.
IMO, Windows 8 is definitely cool, but it has some rough edges that should've been ironed out before prime time.
I'm using Windows 8.1 x64.
In the MUSIC folder I have 1 folder for each artist. In each Artist folder I have 1 folder for each Album. And in each Album folder I have all the songs, with the cover art embedded in them, in every single .mp3 I have.
In folder options I've set folders to show thumbnails, not icon. So, each Album folder's icon is the album art of the .mp3 files it has inside. BUT in the MUSIC folder, all the Artist folders don't show the album arts they have inside. Their icon is not a folder's icon neither, it's like thumbnails of folders:
And I'd like them to show the thumbnails of the albums they have inside. Well, the maximum amount of images that a folder icon can show is 2, so if I have more than 1 album in an Artist folder, then the icon should be 2 random thumbnails (of 2 albums).
An example here:
I put a song (with embedded cover art) in the desktop. The archive's icon is the cover art.
Now I create a NEW FOLDER (the icon is a default folder icon) called "Album". I put there the .mp3 file. Now, the "Album" folder's icon is the cover art of the .mp3 file.
Then I create ANOTHER new folder called "Artist" (default folder icon), and I put there the "Album" folder. And here, the "Artist" folder's icon is NOT the cover art, but the icon of the image above, and I want it to show the cover art.
Notice that all album's folders have only .mp3 files, not hidden images like "folder.jpg" or anything else, just .mp3 files.
What drives me crazy is that like a week ago, Artist folders were showing cover arts of the albums they had inside (they picked up 2 random images, cause folders can show up to 2 thumbnails).
In windows 7 I was able to disable the thumbnails. When I click on a stack of programs in the task bar it brings up previews. I want to to just switch between them and not make me click on one of the preview or list items.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not getting any thumbnails showing for any of my pictures, .jpg, .bmp, .png, etc. I tried deleting C:UsersxxxxxxxxAppDataLocalIconCache.db then rebooting, no change.
I suspect I turned something off to see how but forgot to turn it back on. How do I get thumbnails to show for my pictures again.
I looked through gpedit but did not notice anything. This is what I'm seeing. I can change the icon that shows by changing the default program.
I recently upgraded to Windows 8 on my Boot Camp partition (i'm aware that Apple hasn't officially released drivers for 8 yet, i'm still running the Windows 7 Boot Camp drivers and so far it seems stable).
I've ran into a little problem in the Explorer. As i'm using an SSD, i have my Windows partition fairly small (~50GB) so i keep all of my photos on my Mac partition and don't duplicate them over.
When trying to browse through these photos on the Windows side, i can see the file name and the icon, and they open perfectly in Windows Picture Viewer, but within Explorer they all show the same default Windows "Mountain by the lake" icon.
I've been into Folder Preferences and told it only to display thumbnails and not the icon but still no luck...
I need to see my thumbnails. 99% of my files are Photoshops and I need to see them, not the PS icon. I can only find "Show Icons Oly - Not Thumbnails" in my advanced folder settings. How do I do the opposite. Show all thumbnails - not icons?
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust noticed today that on hovering in the taskbar, thumbnail previews don't show but just a line of text. This has started from a couple of days. In between, randomly, the preview will show up. But mostly it is not over the past couple of days.
8.1 Pro x64
windows re-doing thumbnails, not when they are gone altogether!
As far as I can remember this happened totally randomly!
UPDATE: I've just realised that this is ALL files, not just images and it doesnt matter if they are on the desktop / pendrive / google drive etc..
The popup thumbnails of the open applications that jump up when you accidentally touch the Is it possible to suppress them?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhy windows can't remember my view settings, sort by settings and thumnails ?
I have different types of view settings for different folders but everytime I restart my computer they change. Same thing with thumbnails expect they seem to last a couple days before disappearing, sometimes a thumbnail will appear on a different folder then it was set to.
My Video Thumbnails in Windows (File) Explorer have gone and been replaced by the generic Icon for the program I select to play the video files (VLC, GOM etc). It's happened to my AVI and MPG files on ALL my Windows 8 PC's.
The Folder Options are set to "Display file icon on thumbnails" and the Performance Options/Visual Effects are set to "Show thumbnails instead of icons".
I tried using the "Media Preview" program but it only works on about one in a hundred icons.
If it's happening on all my PC's it must be happening to others, how to fix this?
I can no longer see the thumbnails of images within Windows Explorer. I found which clones it's self multiple times across other sites, it didn't solve the problem ?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I did but suddenly video thumbnails disappeared, so I reinstalled K-Lite Codec Pack MEGA version. I'm using a laptop with Windows 8.1 x64. VLC is the default media player. I've installed MPC-HC and K-Lite Codec Pack MEGA. Everything is up to date.
Once I reinstalled K-Lite MEGA pack, thumbnails appeared again, but now something's wrong. When I open the "Videos" folder, VLC icons don't appear. All icons are blank (there's no icon, just blank space with the file's name below) until the thumbnail is loaded.
Before, ALL icons appeared (VLC icon) and then the thumbnails got loaded. If I refreshed, the thumbnails didn't start to load again, the window blinked for 1 millisecond and then everything was already loaded.
Now, if I refresh, it starts all over again, all icons are blank and the thumbnails start to load again. I've reinstalled MPC-HC, K-Lite MEGA pack, Disk cleanup thumbnails, show only icons, apply and then uncheck that option... Nothing changes
I don't understand anything. Here's a screenshot in the middle of the process:
There should be VLC icons instead of those blank spaces, and it shouldn't start to load everything each time I refresh.
I'm trying to delete the games listed here in my start menu programs list:
I've read online that you should be able to delete them by going into the program files folder for "Wildtangent games" but the problem is that I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED THAT FOLDER PERMANENTLY, so now when I click on "open file location" I get this games window that I cant do anything with:
I already tried re-installing wildtangent games to see if that would somehow re-instate access to these games' files in program files, but to no avail.
Is there still some way to make it so they dont show up?
When I restart my PC or when I shutdown and then turn on, it won't boot up sometimes. It just start the booting animation and then the monitor turns off. I need to restart several times to boot to user selection. I tried turning off fast start-up but no luck. I have desktop PC.

Just upgraded my gfx card from a nvidia 560 gtx to a nvidia 670, and my PC is taking like 1 minute to boot now. It used to be like 15 seconds..
Specs:

samsung 840 SSD 256gb
seagate barracuda 500gb

Tried:
remove the old gfx drivers last night, using driver sweeper, cleaned the registry etc, but it hanged on post [where you see your motherboards bios logo and what keys to press etc] for the first time with the new card in, downloaded the gfx drivers for it and it still hangs on post after install.
Tried playing a couple of games that are on my SSD and on my HDD and performance is perfect.
Loaded up samsung SSD magician and 'optmized' the ssd and benchmarked, 550 read 250 write speed.
Tried my USB and PS/2 keyboard, doesn't register keys to get into BIOS, so can't flash it.
Tried unplugging all USB devices and still hanging on post, takes a good minute or 2.
Also checked my C: drive with the OS on using error checking and it found none.
Not long reinstalled windows 8 either...
I recently reinstalled Windows 8.1 and noticed this white box around a tile or setting when I hover over it. It's like accessiblity or something but I didn't change any settings than what I usually do. This has never happened on any older Installations before. I think it may have imported a setting from my Microsoft account but I'm not sure. How do I remove these "autofocus" selection borders from the Windows 8.1/8 tile screen?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 8 Pro (64bit) and I have 1,904 fonts installed... It was working fine until one day some of the Windows fonts have been changed to different ones. Is there any way to reset the fonts installed? Since this is getting very annoying

I've recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, but for some reason it installed Windows 8.1 32-bit, instead of the 64 bit version. I've left it this way for a week or so but some of the applications I use need to be 64 bit.
Basically, how do I upgrade to a 64 bit version of Windows 8.1?
I have 2x2GB ram & installed Windows 8.1 64bit Update 1 while usable ram is just 1.9gb.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhat has happened is that when I first started up my laptop this morning, it seems the audio is disabled. Along with this, the wireless connection is also disabled. Windows attempts to fix both of these problems, but only fixes the wireless. I've restarted multiple times to no avail, and each time, the wireless connection must be fixed by Windows. I've had this laptop for about a month, nothing has ever gone wrong.
when I go on Youtube, every video I attempt to watch stutters around for the first few seconds and/or goes directly to an error screen. I'm sure this has to be something with flash or something in general, considering it just started occurring with these other problems. I'm hoping I won't have to backup files and restore the laptop to the factory default, I was an idiot and deleted the only system restore point I had from a few days ago. I completely forgot system restore points only effect installed programs and Windows files.
Here is some more specific information towards my audio problem -
This is what happens when I attempt to start Windows Audio in Services.
My PC keeps crashing and as far as I remember it happens while I'm using uTorrent, but I don't know for sure.
I'm using Windows 8 64 bit and I attached my SF file.
This may be related to the recent Windows update.
Just recently, I noticed that, sometimes, I had to click an application twice to start it.
At first, I attributed it to typos, but when it happened quite a few times, I investigated.
I saw that Task Manager showed the application running, but there was no window on the desktop.
The application doesn't matter and it's not easily reproducible - happens once or twice a day at random.
Odd.
I'll be a bit more vigilant now that I noticed it and see if I can track it down better (32-bit or 64-bit apps, for example). The last one was a 32-bit application. And I started two applications in rapid succession.
(I'm on 64-bit 8.1).
I have my laptop connected to an external monitor with HDMI. The laptop is always plugged into the A/C,and its cover is always closed, so it's used as a desktop computer.
I have noticed that the monitor often turns off very quickly, sometimes after only a few minutes of idle time. This is extremely annoying, and I don't know how to fix it. In Power Options, the "Turn off display after" setting is set to 10 minutes on battery and 30 minutes when plugged in.
I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit.
