View 2 RepliesHow do you turn your microphone port or line in, to a headphone port or line out port. For a while I would plug in headphones into the mic port and it would bring up a dialog saying I could change it to another headphone port but it never worked. Now it doesn't even pop up. I want this so when I go on long trips my girlfriend and I could watch a movie together using 2 pairs of headphones.

I'm playing a browser-based game where we use signature-photos, and some people including me like to go a little nuts here and make photos with transparent backgrounds, the only issue is that transparent backgrounds have a lot larger files than if you just change the background-color of the photo to whatever the background of the website is, which in this case is #111111. Anyway, this worked perfectly on Windows 7, but since I switched to Windows 8.1, the background colors of the photos has changed, either that or the colors themself has changed. When I printscreen the background of the website, it's still #111111 while as the color of the photos are #080808, can this be related?
I have talked to a lot of players on this game who runs Windows 8 who doesn't have this issue.
Here's a printscreen of what I'm referring to: Screenshot by Lightshot
I've recently picked up a Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus (first windows 8 experience) and have come across a display issue whenever the laptop gets unplugged, namely that the colors become incredibly dark as it the contrast takes a dive.
Here is a recreation.

Specs from amazon:

I have the high contrast option turned on for only one reason. The differences in colors of the active vs non-active window that is highlighted in the taskbar was too subtle for me and I often clicked on non-active windows.
Sadly this however resulted in IE / Firefox and Office (Excel & Word so far) be almost unusable. Excel has basically no colors at all no matter what is selected for either text or backgrounds. Office documents are either black or white, no colors come through at all. IE and Firefox are almost unusable.
Only Chrome ignores the high contrast option and uses its own styleset.
Where did the desktop colors applet disappear to? It's under personalize under Windows 7 but it's not there under Windows 8.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWe are upgrading our office to windows 8, but 1 computer is hardly ever used and is running XP. It will stay with XP, and should not be allowed to go online for security reasons.
All computers are networked, and share printers thru a netgear vpn router. Of cause they all can go online. Question: How can I prevent the XP computer from going online?
I opened the netgear router settings ( http://192.168.0.1 ), but can not find any setting blocking a computer from going on line.
I didn't have this line before but my little nephew has done something wrong while he used File Explorer so it looks to me really irritated.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am very new to Windows 8. I'm trying to print a line drawing that is saved as a jpeg. I need to print it at 250%, but how to do so. When I try to print it, it does not give me the printer options like previous versions of Windows did. Advanced options only allow me to choose orientation and page order. It does allow me to choose size as far as full page, 8x10, 5x7, 4x6, contact sheet, etc, but this is not what I need. I need to be able to print actual size and scale up (or down) from there.

I just recently upgraded my system to Windows 8 PRO 64 bit edition. I noticed on my desktop there are these around my icons. Is there any way to get rid of them, or disable them?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have a variety of apps in the startup folder which is set to launch on startup. eventually, i'd like windows to focus on Chrome (specifically on the address bar) so that i can start using it right away.
i remember there's a command which could be added to the shortcut properties but can't recall.
I have an audio source connected to Line In and I use the volume mixer to un-mute the input when I want to listen to the audio from that source. I recently started having a problem where after re-booting Line In does not show up in my volume mixer and I do not hear audio from the Line In Source even though I have listen to this device active. (during boot up I do hear the audio for a fraction of a second)
To get Line In to work and show up in the volume mixer again, I have to go to manage audio devices under control panel and select the record tab. from there I can see Line In and I see that it is set as the default device and I can see that there is audio based on the indicator bars to the right of Line In. I then have to go to the Listen tab for Line In and uncheck "Listen to this device" and click on Apply, then Check "Listen to this device" and Click Apply. After doing all of this the Audio can be heard and Line In appears on the Volume Mixer until the next reboot where I have to perform those steps all over again.
I have the latest drivers and all MS updates for Windows 8.1 on a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5H Motherboard with Realtek R3.87 Driver dated 5/13/2014...
I have this dark horizontal line that appears in windows explorer every time I'm in a window, It appears right at the bottom of the navigation bar, its not glaring though, just that its distracting and every time I hover around it, I See the "move" cursor which doesn't do anything. How do I get rid of this line? It was never there as at the last time I restarted my PC.

When i click on them they open into a command prompt window. If i click uninstall from metro it just takes me around to add/remove programs where they have already been deleted?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed yesterday that there is a very fine thin line on the left side of my desktop. In the screen shot you can barely make it out, but you will be able to once you see ot from the left corner of task bar. it does not appear when i open a browser or a folder or even start menu. It only shows on the desktop screen and is really annoying. I tried disabling some odd services and restarted the computer as well, but still no luck.
P.S: Screen shot is below.
I want to launch the Windows Store Control Panel in Windows 8 from Desktop command line, i know the EXE file is
"C:WindowsImmersiveControlPanelSystemSettings.exe".
I am trying to record from a cassette player on to my hp envy h8-1500z. I have a cable going from the headphone jack on the player to the blue line in jack on the pc. I have gone to the recording devices and have the line in jack enabled. That is as far as I can get because it says it is not plugged in? I have plugged it into the mic jack and it recognized that. I have tryed updating the drivers to no avail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS12 Ultrabook (amongst other things) and out of the blue a white line of pixels popped up on my desktop. It is there no matter what windows or programs I have open through the desktop however when I go to the start screen or open any other tile it goes away....I've tried restarting, changing the resolution, etc and can't make the line go away. Its still under warranty if it was the screen, but in the past my experience with blown out pixels (white lines on the screen) has been a screen replacement because its there no matter what....this goes away in the start screen or any other tile.... None of my other laptops/tablets with windows 8 have done this before.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow would I set up Windows 8 so that I can edit the `path` environment variable in a fixed pitch font such as `Console` or `Lucida Console`? I don't want to change the font for other parts of Windows - only where paths are displayed. It seems I've been doing this in a terribly inappropriate font for many years and semicolons aren't great.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI really like some of these apps but the font is too darn small. I already have my dpi at 150%, so I don't want to increase that anymore.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have some old software that still runs fine on Windows 8 but with one exception in the way *some* Fonts are being handled.
The old software uses "MS Sans Serif" which is not a TrueType font. Up until win7 this was fine as the font displayed well. In Windows 8, it is skinny stick characters and n some cases, barely readable.
What I would like to do is to make a copy of the "Microsoft Sans Serif" which is a TT Font and copy it to the "MS Sans Serif," over-writing it so that both Fonts will have different file-names but the same contents. Then when the old app runs next time, I will again be able to see stuff.
Problem is when I tried to copy the Font in the Font Folder I got a message "Only a trusted installer can do this."
I'm disabling some fonts via font manager (NexusFont) because there's way to many fonts I don't use and it's really annoying to scroll through every single font in PhotoShop and Illustrator. So which fonts should I not disabled? Like what are the fonts that Windows 8.1 and programs usually use?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed my collection of fonts last night and since then the images (or maybe they're a kind of font?) in the menu bar in the start menu have gone missing and have been replaced by rectangles (which leads me to believe its a font problem). These weird rectangles have also replaced the arrows on scrollbars, the search button in the start menu... pretty much any kind of button in the Metro interface. I did not remove, rename, overwrite, or delete any existing fonts to my knowledge. take a look at my attached pic.
Is there any way to fix this or am I going to have to do *another* refresh?
I have Windows 8 Pro (64bit) and I have 1,904 fonts installed... It was working fine until one day some of the Windows fonts have been changed to different ones. Is there any way to reset the fonts installed? Since this is getting very annoying
Here is a screenshot taken from Office 2013 Professional Plus
I observe Windows 8 use different font now and I can't find the old fashioned dialog for detailed customizing all desktop elements like it was used up to Windows 7. The display control panel only offers change size on couple of basic elements. Also, any hint turning off smooth scrolling of list and combo boxes, it's annoying slow.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast night I downloaded the font Roboto (used by Google for their Android UI) and all of the weights installed properly, except for the Regular and Regular Italic weights. Trying to re-install the weights prompts a query if I want to replace them. Under the Control Panel's Fonts area, there are two ghost-like icons that would indicate the presence of the missing weights, and when I check for the fonts using "localhostc$WindowsFonts" I see them there (all copies). Furthermore, despite being the Administrator of my computer, I can't seem to delete them from this area. All my hidden files are turned on, so I'm not sure what else to do.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a font from dafont.com, put the file in the downloads folder.....I installed the font and want to delete it out of my downloads folder. However, I can't. It says the file is open in the System.
I tried changing the name of the file, and I tried restarting the system....both no success.
Edit - Actually found out there there are more files doing this, and not just the font file.
In some of the apps the font is white. sometimes the background is white as well so I can not see anything. other times it is black and I can see it. Where this setting is?
