View 5 RepliesJust bought a new Gateway desktop with Windows 8 and can't maintain wireless internet connection.
Connects sometimes, but drops unexpectedly.
Sometimes says it can't connect, but does anyway and works fine. Sometimes it can't see any networks.
Usually can only see my network, though I am in a condominium surrounded by many networks.
My HP laptop (Windows XP) in the same room has a solid connection so I know the wireless signal strength is not an issue
I saw the "unstable wifi" post and tried removing network devices from power saving, that didn't work.
Well, my first real problem with 8.1, my bluetooth mouse drops connection about every 15-20 minutes. Turn it off and back on it reconnects.
A search of the web shows other people with same problem. I've tried everything I know of, power settings for bluetooth the mouse and usb ports, drivers, uninstall/re-install.
i use a usb Wireless adapter to acess the internet, and my signal is always good. The connection works fine too. But in some sites (more specifically in a flash video player that i have to use many times) and when i try to download uptades via Windows Uptade the connection just drops, and in most of times i have to disconnect the USB adapter and plug again to re-connect.
I don't use any antivirus, any 3rd party firewalls, nothing. I skirted the updates problem downloading them from the MS site, instead of Windows Uptade, and the uptades have installed fine, but itill pisses me off. The disconnect problem happens sometimes when i try to download something via Torrent (using Bittorrent), but in these days it happens most of times in the Flash player. This don't happen in youtube, curiously.
How do you turn your microphone port or line in, to a headphone port or line out port. For a while I would plug in headphones into the mic port and it would bring up a dialog saying I could change it to another headphone port but it never worked. Now it doesn't even pop up. I want this so when I go on long trips my girlfriend and I could watch a movie together using 2 pairs of headphones.
WIN 8.1
I have been trying to upgrade all of my computers to Win 8.1. 2 updated fine, but the last machine will not upgrade.
Every time I try to upgrade my last computer through the Store I get the following error: "We weren't able to connect to the Store. This might have happened because of a server problem or the network connection might have timed out. Please wait a few minutes and Try Again."
I have waited, and rebooted, with no success. I tried to log on using my Windows Live ID and get a similar message.
I've upgraded to windows 8 from xp with a clean install, but I can't seem to get the audio working, I've manually gone thro device manager and up dated everything in there and its telling me all drivers are up to date. My speakers are plugged into the green 3.5mm socket and are powered by the usb connection.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have strange network problem these days. I have a desktop PC and installed Windows 8.1. And I have a LAN. The gateway IP address is 192.168.2.1.
The network works fine when I start the PC. I can access Internet with IE, I can access the config pages of my gateway and I can SSH my local File server. It's a synology ds212j. I assigned static IP address 192.168.2.18 to it and name it as "home_ds". I add dns entry in file "hosts".
But there will be very strange problems if the PC keeps running about 2/3 days. It seems I can't connect to other computers from my PC. No IE, no SSH, no ftp.... But ping still work. These is no network device listed in my network folder. But I still can access the mapped network drives.
For example, I can ping www.google.com, I can ping 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.2.18 and "home_ds".

But when I try to telnet and ssh, all failed.
I tried:
telnet www.google.com 80
telnet 192.168.2.1 80
telnet 192.168.2.18 22
all failed.
I tied putty, msn, outlook,... all failed. But my wife's PC works normally at the same time.
In the network folder, there should be a list of all my network devices, including my wife's PC and my File server. But it's empty if this problem happens. However I can add them mannually and I can access the network drives.
And I can connect to my PC from my wife's PC with remote desktop.
If I logout and login again, the network will recover except 1 new problem. That is I can't access the network drives of my File Server with computer name "home_ds", but IP address works. And I can ping it with computer name.
K:>ping home_ds

A restart will solve both the above 2 problems. But I don't want to restart my PC so frequently.
I tried to solve this problem by update windows and drivers but failed.
when i connect my hp probook 4520s to my sony vpcyb4ajg with Ethernet cable on my Hp wireless disconnects and can not be connected until i disconnect lan cable. but on my sony i have both wired and wireless connections simultaneously

I have a brand new HP Pavilion TS 15 Notebook PC and has Windows 8.1 SL.
We are using RDP to connect to our App server. The App server is running on Windows 2008.
When i try to connect to the server the client is showing "Because of Protocol error the session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again "
We have other Windows 8.1 machines connecting remotely to the server without any issues. Tried a lot of fixes from MS but no use.
When CPU usage is just high (50% to 60%) and I open Task Manager, it's usually McAfee on access scanner at work because I've just clicked an emoticon or something like that. Other examples are service host -- some long winded process I can't always find in the TM list to get the name right.
But when it's 100% and this has happened consecutively for over half a dozen attempts to find what spikes this, I'm dead serious: CPU usage has dropped immediately to under 3%. Yesterday and today I've "caught" this thing 2 times. CPU usage drops so fast you can't see what spiked it.
There are 2 Google Ads that pop in right about here but don't show up when I edit the post. These do not work, find hundreds of non-existent "errors" so that you'll buy the program and then when you run it you might get less than half a dozen errors fixed. Don't trust these programs, I don't. I have no control over what Google Ads does but I'd call it anything but "Adsense" to be honest.
I had Norton trial as the default AV when I first fired up and set up the laptop but I'm a McAfee person so set this up and removed Norton during the McAfee setup process. So it's not likely this is an infection. I apply all updates as soon as I see them, if I'm working and can't quit at the time an Update notice comes through then it's no more than overnight that these are applied.
In various Games such as Dungeon Defenders, and the newly released Unturned; I receive drops in FPS for a almost set amount of time 10-15 seconds. Drivers are up to date. I've done several types of malware scans, and DxDiag brings up no problems.
I go from 60 FPS or higher, to (depending on game) 8 FPS-20 FPS. Shortly after the drop, it goes right back up to 60 or higher FPS. and does the same intermittent drop for a short time.
Temps do not exceed 60C, if they even get that close.
Really getting to me, as there are no apparent reasons for this to be occurring. The speccy screenshot below is while a game is running.
Font colors, line colors, shape colors, etc. in Word, PowerPoint and Visio do not display.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince I got the old gpu (AMD Radeon 6950) and the new power supply (700 watt) from my brother I have been having these problems. Diablo 3 had some fps drops while engaging a big wave of enemies and sometimes my computer had some problems that programs weren't responding.
I actually wanted to upgrade my computer for a while and was hoping to fix some of my problems I have been getting (Maybe the gpu was having some problems, because of age?).
So I got the: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 (MSI), a new motherboard : ASRock B75 Pro3-M (CPUSocket), a new RAM: 8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz and a new Hard Drive: 932GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 (SATA).
I kept my CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz and my power supply: corsair cx750.
Since I have been using this build, my computer kept these problems and it has become even worse after 1-2 months. My league of legends started having really bad problems with having major fps drops to the 0-30 fps, sometimes it froze for a couple of seconds. I have been checking my temp for so far, because it's getting pretty warm in my room, but it never has been to a dangerous lvl and it got checked by some of my friends that have some knowledge about it, the highest my CPU got was about 60 degrees. I have tried to reinstall the client, but nothing worked.
I started playing World of warcraft aswell since a week ago and it was impossible for me to play. Fps keeps dropping from the 95 to 0-20. I noticed though when someone lvled up or someone joined somehow that's the point where it freezes.
I reupdated my drivers from my cpu, gpu, motherboard, etc. I have run benchmarks what seems to be completely fine and it ran smoothly. Since I got my new upgrades I did get Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. And I have been running tests that burden my computer.

upgraded to Windows 8.1 (from Windows 7) a few days ago and I really love flight simulation. I have noticed that while I am playing Flight Simulator X, my computer in general starts to get pretty laggy (Moving windows, typing etc).
I have an i7 2600 (oc 3.9ghz), HD6780 and 16GB of ram installed. I opened up task manager to find that 7.4GB of ram is being used out of 8.5. But it says it is only using 47%!
I might be reading this all wrong, but I believe this is the reason why my computer's performance drops when I use close to 8.5 GB of RAM.
We are upgrading our office to windows 8, but 1 computer is hardly ever used and is running XP. It will stay with XP, and should not be allowed to go online for security reasons.
All computers are networked, and share printers thru a netgear vpn router. Of cause they all can go online. Question: How can I prevent the XP computer from going online?
I opened the netgear router settings ( http://192.168.0.1 ), but can not find any setting blocking a computer from going on line.
I didn't have this line before but my little nephew has done something wrong while he used File Explorer so it looks to me really irritated.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am very new to Windows 8. I'm trying to print a line drawing that is saved as a jpeg. I need to print it at 250%, but how to do so. When I try to print it, it does not give me the printer options like previous versions of Windows did. Advanced options only allow me to choose orientation and page order. It does allow me to choose size as far as full page, 8x10, 5x7, 4x6, contact sheet, etc, but this is not what I need. I need to be able to print actual size and scale up (or down) from there.

I have an audio source connected to Line In and I use the volume mixer to un-mute the input when I want to listen to the audio from that source. I recently started having a problem where after re-booting Line In does not show up in my volume mixer and I do not hear audio from the Line In Source even though I have listen to this device active. (during boot up I do hear the audio for a fraction of a second)
To get Line In to work and show up in the volume mixer again, I have to go to manage audio devices under control panel and select the record tab. from there I can see Line In and I see that it is set as the default device and I can see that there is audio based on the indicator bars to the right of Line In. I then have to go to the Listen tab for Line In and uncheck "Listen to this device" and click on Apply, then Check "Listen to this device" and Click Apply. After doing all of this the Audio can be heard and Line In appears on the Volume Mixer until the next reboot where I have to perform those steps all over again.

I have this dark horizontal line that appears in windows explorer every time I'm in a window, It appears right at the bottom of the navigation bar, its not glaring though, just that its distracting and every time I hover around it, I See the "move" cursor which doesn't do anything. How do I get rid of this line? It was never there as at the last time I restarted my PC.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen playing almost any game that has some kind of load on the GPU (from FPS games to Strategy), the game often freezes after around 10 - 60 minutes of playtime and the FPS drops to an unbearable amount and the only way to 'solve' the FPS issue is to restart the PC.
For some games, this FPS drop doesn't happen and it just freezes about 4 or 5 times before ultimately crashing because of some display driver issue about the AMD drivers not responding. This kind of issue usually happens with the older games rather than modern ones.
I am running an MSI Radeon 6850 with an AMD Phenom II X4 960T and a 600W power supply. I have tried all kinds of graphics drivers: the latest stable ones, the latest beta ones. I have tried uninstalling all graphics drivers and reinstalling them, with and without driver cleaning software but all to no avail.
I am now starting to think it may be a hardware issue but I do not have another graphics card to swap it out for so.
I am running Win 8.0 with the StartIsBack overlay and a wireless Motorola SBG6580 Wireless Cable Modem Gateway. I am 12 feet from the gateway and usually have 4 bars in signal strength but as I use the internet I drop to 3 bars and my web pages don't update. Within 1 minute after that I get No Internet Access on my wireless. I disconnect and reconnect and everything is good again for about 3 to 5 minutes then it happens again. If I reboot the gateway all seems good for a longer time. My wife runs Win 7.0 and does not have any problems. I am running a secure WEP wireless. My next door neighbor has an unsecured Motorola SB6800 gateway that I can connect to and am not dropped ever. If I connect an Ethernet cable to the gateway it works great. I am betting this must be a config problem in my laptop (Dell inspiron X14)
