View 9 RepliesI don't know how long it's been missing, if it ever was there, but I thought it would be handy to have File Explorer on the Task Bar.
I found it on the Applications page of the start menu, right clicked on it, and saw that File Explorer was already pinned to the task bar. I tried unpinning it, then repinning it, but is just doesn't show up.
When in file explorer the zip icon under the share tab is not active. When I click on a simple folder, it does not highlight. If I right click on the folder and go to send to all I get is the dvd drive unless I shift right click first then a drop down of more selections appear but not send to compress. Is this something that need to be activated. I can un-zip a fle from the view tab.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe last time I tried to organize the default libraries located at user/name/docs etc in my Tablet I messed up had multiple locations showing folders like music, documents etc .
This is what I would like to do:
I have created 2 extra partitions E : and F : I would like my Data( like .PST) and Document folders to be in E and my entertainment folders like music, videos etc to be located in F:
The last time I did this I created the folders in E and F drives then included them in the libraries, this truly messed up file explorer with "duplicate entries" .
a) Is the best way to just relocate the default library folders in User to other drives ie going to Properties /location etc
b) Is it possible to delete the default folders in User , create folders in other drives then include them in the library ? in this case the folders wont be associated with user/name?
All I'm trying to do is move/organize my emails into folders, and although I can create a new folder, when the toolbar pops up, and I click on "MOVE", my screen greys out...has done this over and over.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just noticed at few days ago that in Internet Explorer 11 if I go to "view" tab to change the size of the browser window I'm viewing , the "50%" and "Custom" selection is shaded and NOT available. I do not know what might have happened to change this, or how to change it back.

However I have now gone onto my desktop part of my laptop and the internet explorer icon has disappeared. I can still get on through the windows 8 side of things but I want the icon back on the desktop.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have purchased a notebook(ASUS) in which Windows 8 had already installed . So no key or backup or no cd/dvd was provided and i did'not make any recovery/backup.But few day's ago the BootBCD (code:0xc000000d) is missing so that windows is not opening and a blue screen with this issue open.
So, what could i do to save my geniune window, i have only concerned with that geniune issue, it's is not important to recover my data . how can i save my geniune window.
My brother brought his PC to me with the above error.
The rest of it is File: BCD and error code 0xc0000034. And of course being my brother he did not make a recovery CD. There is also no windows twenty five digit serial number sticker on the case.
I have switched on file history to an external drive and it seemed to be working however changes doesnt seem to be saved. As an example, if I click on restore personal files I get yesterdays date i.e. 1st December, but when I click on the Desktop icon it takes me back to the 17th November. My desktop has changed since the 17th November I have added some files to the desktop but they are not showing up in file history.
There is plenty of space on the backup drive and it is set to back-up every hour. Also it states on the main file history screen that files were last copied 17/11/2012 17:33 and this doesnt change even if I click run now?
Another example, I scanned some documents in a couple of days ago but they are not in the My Scans folder in the file history. If I click on restore I get yesterdays date 1st December (today is the 2nd December) and then if I click on the Documents Icon it takes me back to the 28th November and the My Scans folder doesnt have the latest documents in it?
I've got a windows 8 laptop which gives me this error message when i try to switch it on:
"Your PC needs to be repaired The boot configuration data file is missing some required information.
File:BCD Error Code : 0xc000000d ............................" I'm sure you are all familiar with the rest of this dreaded error code.
I've tried all the repair options, recovery disks to a windows 8 bootable flash disk, the command prompt fix boot commands as well but still I get the same error message whenever i try to boot windows.
Now I'd like to know, can't i just copy the boot folders from another similar windows 8 pc and paste them into my harddrive to fix this?
I have got the recovery page that loads up first
currently using windows 8.1 OS

I dont have a recovery CD or USB, so im pretty stuck at what to do now.
Currently using an Asus U32v

Alright, so after restarting my Toshiba Satellite L50A16H Laptop (Windows 8.1) it gave me a blue recovery screen,
it stated:
The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information.

Unfortunatly I haven't made a backup or recovery file to boot my computer from so I'm stuck with the issue of finding a windows 8 iso file that matches my system, i tried getting the windows 8 iso from microsofts website but it asks for a product key before it lets you download the file, the problem is that my product key is built into the laptop and Toshiba has not provided me with the key on a sticker on the bottom or through any other method. apparently its built into the BIOS. i have a 16gb USB stick that i can boot from. using a key finder is obviously not an option because i cant start up the laptop. I was also wondering if i manage to find a windows 8 iso file to boot from, will my toshiba laptop automatically fill in the product key for windows 8 as i dont have it.
I have tried to start up my PC recently and I get the message that my boot system has failed due to the fact it's missing the file "BCD".
I have contacted the microsoft company to report this issue, no support without my product code, or a disc/USB with the windows 8 system on it.
I have none of these and yet my issue still remains. My PC has worked perfectly the day before I shut it down. I'm trying very hard to restore my system but all I can find of the ways to restore it is by clicking control panel, etc...
I cannot access my laptop's desktop all I get is this error message and options to enter the setup utilities, firmware and boot options.
In all I'm asking for is, is there a way to restore my system from any of these options or is this another toss away laptop because windows 8 has failed to find this missing file?
I cannot get a replacement because I do not have the key with me that was used to install the operating system. This is all very frustrating and not to mention my job relies on this computer so it's putting everything to risk with my situation right now.
The computer is an ACER Aspire 3. 4Gb RAM. 500Gb memory.
I've been using the computer for a month and a half more or less and everything went OK only few small problems but 2 days ago. It did not Boot. When starting the PC the following appeared:

The first thing I did was creating a bootable USB with Windows 8 software, it did not work. SO i used Rufus, it worked and launched the Windows 8 installation and recovery but when I tried to recover, refresh, anything it told me the disk was locked... or anything the only thing I'm able to access is Command Prompt.
I've been trying some commands that I've seen online but no luck so far. Some commands tell me "OK, successfully something" But when reboot and I change to default the boot order and UEFI then the same error appears.
I have windows 8.1 and Lenovo y510. After upgrading from 8.0 to 8.1 a have several problems with my PC. Right now suddenly I cant start my PC.

I am having a problem with a new Dell Inspiron 15 3520 that came with Windows 8 installed and that I had been using for only a month when it went bad.
The problems started when I turned it off about ten days ago, and went I turned it back on a couple days later, and it was stuck in the apparently famous Windows 8 "Automatic repair couldn't repair your pc"/BSOD loop. I was not able to boot into safe mode. System restores made no difference. Somewhere along the line I found something that said that I had an "inaccessible_boot_device error".
From the repair menu maze, I was able to get to a command prompt. I used this to copy almost all of my files off of computer.
Chkdsk showed no bad sectors, no bad partition records, or other irregularities. sfc returned "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". Some test (I do not remember which) showed that the boot record and BCD were fine. The Dell hardware diagnostic test showed everything working fine.
I am thinking that it is possible that the source of this was a virus or mechanical problem (I saw no evidence for either). If I had to guess, however, I would imagine that the computer stopped working after an automatic update pushed a corrupted/incompatible driver. I have seen discussions online about people having problems with NVIDIA video and/or SATA AHCI Controller drivers, and Windows 8 getting corrupted and stuck in the BSOD loop from that. At some point I saw a Windows Update Log (I am not sure where), that showed that, as Windows shut down the last time it was functional, automatic updates installed a new AHCI driver.
I tried downloading some new drivers for the 3520 from the Dell web site and installing them on the dead computer through a thumb drive and the command prompt. The downloads are all executables, however, and when I tried to run them, I get the message, "the subsystem needed to support the image type is not present". I believe that this message means that the driver executables are 32bit apps and won't run from a 64 bit command prompt. I also tried to use the "Drivers and Utilities" disk that came with my PC to do some driver rollbacks, but, I can't understand the file names or folder structure on the disk, and, when I try some to run some of the exe files ("setup.exe", for example) to get a gui interface, I get the "the subsystem needed to support the image type is not present" message.
After working on the problem for a while, I borrowed a friend's Windows 8 installation disk set. The computer will boot to the repair options off of the 64bit disk, but not the 32bit one. I did attempt a System Refresh off of the 64bit disk, and got back the message, "The drive where Windows in installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again."
Around the time that I was messing with the BIOS settings to get the computer to boot off of the Windows 8 disk, I started getting a message "Your PC needs to be repaired - Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information -- File:BCD -- error code 0xc0000034" at the start of my boot ups. I am not sure if I deleted a file somewhere during my repair efforts, or if I am getting this message because the computer is confused in efforts trying to boot off of the DVD. I get this message even with the DVD removed and the BIOS set to boot off of the Windows Boot Manager, however, so I am guessing that a file is now missing. And the message stops me from getting into the repair menus/command prompt any other way except through the installation disk.
I downloaded a ps2 emulator and when I go to update my diretcx I get the cabinet file missing and the certificate is invalid.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to sort a folder's contents with both File names and Sub-Folder names intermixed? I have projects in sub-folders, and 'support' files like this:
projabc (sub-folder)
projabc.txt (file)
projabc.bat (file)
amongst other projects. I would like all the 'projabc...' items to appear together.
Until I activated Windows 8, I could pin to the taskbar, now I can't!

View 8 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of Windows 8.1 this week and have a fully updated installation now with minimal programs installed. My problem is this, I have my downloads folder set to sort files by date created, from newest to oldest so I can easily find my newest downloads as they should be at the top of the listing, but Windows explorer will not refresh the view if I have have explorer open, forcing me to either manually refresh it or go to another folder, then come back which updates the view. I never had to do this with the old win 8 pro installation and have tried resetting the folders several times but it still won't update by itself. I do have the latest version of Start8 installed, but that never caused a problem before.

Iam running 8pro 64 bit. when I open an file explorer window, sometimes there is everytihg, but most of the time, there is just "desktop" and it is searching.I have to manually right click and open new explorer to get it to show all drives and locations. Also, when I get into a window with movies or pictures, all the files are white, no thumbnail! I have no virus and the installation is new and it is from the Microsoft site. all updates are installed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSince 2 days ago I've noticed that I cannot create a new folder with File Explorer by any way possible. Using the taskbar or the SHIFT + Ctrl + N. Even when saving projects with Save File as... and trying to use the "New Folder" text string button does not create any folder. Using CMD prompt or powershell all works well as with Total Commander which i only installed to see if it could create folders and it does. Other programs that auto create folders also works well (i.e. Foobar when transcoding to new unavailable folder). My Windows 8 Pro is original, it's a 4 month old install, I've not made any customizations, no registry hacks, Windows is bare apart from Classic Shell which i only use now as a custom button to go to start screen with the mouse. I also made a custom High Contrast Theme that i use at night or when eyes are a bit tired. It's 2 months old so it's there long before the problem.I've not installed any new programs in the last week apart from some updates from FileZilla, Foxit pdf and Notepad++.Last system update is COPICOM from 13 July.I followed this guide which as not resolved the problem: I cannot find a way to create a new folder in Windows 8. -
