Debugging :: Windows 8.1 Pro Critical Error 0x133

Nov 26, 2013

After awaiting at the login screen for a 3-4 hours (doing nothing), my PC suddenly restarted. I checked the event logger and saw a critical error 0x133. I'm attaching all information as described in the forum, in the attached zip file.

I would also like to add, that after running sfc /scannow, the system scan detected corrupt files but was unable to fix all of them (as it is saying). It also reports that details are included in C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log. Should I upload this file also ?

Debugging :: Boot Manager Has Recovered From Critical Error?

Jan 17, 2014

Went to turn on my computer today and got a screen with the Dell Logo and a message "Boot manager has recovered from a critical error." It went on to say there were missing or corrupt files that were restored from the default configuration. I did a Google search and found absolutely nothing about this error. This laptop is only 2 months old. I couldn't find anything in the event viewer either.

Debugging :: Random BSOD Kernel In Page Error And Critical Process Died

I thought the ram is flawed so I went back to the store for a new ram and the BSOD problem halted for a week but now it's coming back again.

I have attached the dump log using SR.

Debugging :: Windows 8.1 - BSOD Critical Process Died

Aug 15, 2014

Recently, my computer started freezing up at startup. It BSODs with the error in the title before making it to the login screen. Up to this point, I have run chkdsk /r /x which took two days and reported no errors and have attempted to run SFC /scannow /offbootdir=c: /offwindir=e:windows which gave me the "windows resource protection could not start the repair service". I don't know how to get the scan to work and have already tried to manually start the trustedinstaller service.

The system is Windows 8.1 on a 2tb raid array (mirror)

Here is all the debugging information I have from the memory dump:

Setup Installation :: Windows 8.1 Fast Startup Stopped Working - Critical Shutdown Error

Mar 29, 2014

Over the last few days I built a new PC with ASUS A87 Pro MB, no PCIe cards, and Samsung ssd 840 Pro boot drive. Lots of changes on a daily basis. For a while, the FAST STARTUP hybrid boot was working. Then it stopped, and I'm trying to debug it.

When PAST STARTUP is enabled in power options, I get a repeatable Critical Error - Windows did not shut down properly, and the startup time is as long as it would be without FAST STARTUP enabled. There are no BSODS, and no apparent harm from the Critical Shutdown error.

Debugging :: BSOD Critical Process Died

Jun 17, 2014

I've been encountering BSOD Critical_process_died twice in 2 days. What is making me scratch my head is that this issue occur when there is a loud humming noise in my tower/cpu (what ever you call it). Tried searching the source of the noise but it doesn't seem to be the cpu fan or the gpu fan. Also this loud humming noise happens randomly and when it does, my computer starts to hang/lags before the BSOD takes place. Besides that, after a couple of restarts the loud humming noise seems to disappear and the computer works fine again.

Debugging :: BSOD Critical Process Died Even After Complete Reinstall

Mar 7, 2014

Minidump: [URL] ....

Memtest came back good. No errors. Also thought I should mention temps are just fine, nothing going above 50C.

(I was running 8.1 before the reinstall) So randomly about a week ago my computer started to bsod out of nowhere saying Critical Prcoess died. Then I started getting Kernal data inpage error. I, of course, googled the issue and there seems to be no solid fix for them. After some fiddlig I seemed to make the bsods stop (could have been luck) and then I was only getting hard locks. No bsod, but everything, including the cursor, was frozen. No ctrl alt del could fix it, it was stuck and required a hard reset. Some thought it was registry errors, others thought it was hardware.

I think I have ruled out software after a reinstall, and still having the issue.

Windows 8 Toshiba Laptop Only Run In Safe Mode - Critical Process Died

Aug 16, 2014

System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 8 Pro, 32 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5300 @ 1.73GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 2
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 3318 Mb
Graphics Card: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.0), 256 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 112968 MB, Free - 96409 MB; E: Total - 1907726 MB, Free - 764957 MB;
Motherboard: Intel Corporation, CAPELL VALLEY(NAPA) CRB
Antivirus: Windows Defender, Disabled

My Toshiba laptop with Windows 8 won't run unless it's in Safe Mode. I don't know exactly how or when it started, but it completely freezes shortly after boot. Exactly when it freezes varies, but it's usually within the first 5 minutes. And by freezing, I mean it's 100% nonfunctional. The only way to shut down is by removing the battery, so now I just keep it out.

At this point I won't list all the things I've tried, or tell you all about my computer and OS. The crashing happens in a variety of ways, but the end result is always the same. I will hear a click sound through the speakers and simultaneously see a flicker on the display. At that point I will instantly know I'm screwed. Then within 1 to 5 seconds the HDD light on the computer will stop blinking and stay on solid, and my only choice is to unplug the power. It usually happens in one of the following ways, listed in order of likelihood, with the most likely first:

1) I get the BSOD with the error, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.
2) My display freaks out, and turns into a jumbled up screen of glorious animated visual static. (I have a picture on my phone, if it comes to that.)
3) I get the BSOD with the error, REFERENCE_BY_POINTER.
4) No apparent crash, but one keystroke or mouse click will take 20 to 30 minutes to be carried out. During this time, Task Manager says HDD is working at 99 or 100%, even though the computer is idle. Sometimes I'm able to move the mouse pointer, other times I'm not.
5) I get the BSOD, with an error that I can't really make out. If I was forced to guess, I'd say it looked something like "x0x000000x".
6) I get a blue screen with a message telling me the computer was improperly shut down, and needs to restart after it collects data. Along with this is a progress report that never moves from 0%.

The last thing I tried was to reinstall Windows, keeping nothing. Now it seems my only available choice is to go through the hundreds of processes and services individually, turning them on and off, one at a time until I find the culprit, the way I had to individually download all of the 107 updates required in order for me to attempt upgrading to Windows 8.1 (unsuccessfully). The stuff I found in the Event Viewer didn't really seem to work, but I'll probably go back to it and research events more thoroughly before I start disabling things. I hope to avoid this.

I don't know if this is a clue or not, but in Device Manager my Generic PnP Monitor has an exclamation point by it, but Windows says the driver is up to date, and I can't figure out why why I'm getting the alarm.

Browsers/Mail :: Many Windows Mail Critical Events In Reliability Monitor

Sep 15, 2014

I check Reliability Monitor from time to time. I was taken aback today to find Windows Mail creating a critical event and appearing as 'Stopped working' each day for the past six days. There are five listings on day one, five on day two, two on day three, one on day four, two on day five and two on day six. 'Check for a solution' provides no solution. I do have to close and reopen Windows Mail on some occasions when it is stuck at 'Connecting'. The second attempt usually results in Windows Mail receiving mail. That, however, has been a situation that I have lived with for a long time and I am unaware that it caused a critical event in the past. Now, it seems, a critical event is created each time I open Windows Mail. Please move this to 'Performance and Maintenance' if more appropriate.

Strangely, it only occurs when I am running on battery power, and after the up time of the machine is 7 minutes. If it's plugged into AC then I don't have any issues.

The minidump shows that the problem seems to be caused by NTOSKRNL.exe.

Debugging :: BSOD While Windows Is Loading - Error 0xc0000001

Apr 12, 2014

Randomly today my computer decided it did not want to boot. It originally had a different error code, but I found a tutorial on how to fix it, I followed the tutorial and my problem stayed the same but my error code changed. Basically something is wrong with my boot sector.

The initial code was 0xc0000225 and I used this tutorial to solve it: Solution to your PC needs to be repaired Error code: 0xc0000225

After that I got the new error: 0xc0000001. I have tried rebuilding the BCD, I have tried fixing the master boot record. I even started to go as far as to do a system "refresh" but windows told me that the HDD was locked and I have to unlock it to do a refresh, which Id much rather not do. When I tried to rebuild the BCD it detected my OS but when I told it to add it to the boot list it says "The requested system device cannot be found".

The weirdest thing is everywhere I look I am told to use the windows startup settings but they are totally missing from the menu. I booted to my bootable Windows 8 64 bit flash drive, selected repair my computer, then selected troubleshoot and advanced options and the only things that are available are system restore, system image recovery, automatic repair and command prompt. right under command prompt is where startup settings should be. I cant reformat because I have a lot of stuff that would take forever to get back like music etc.

Automatic repair didnt do anything. Safe mode does not boot either.

Laptop specs:
Asus VivoBook s500ca
Windows 8.1 Professional
8 gig of ram

Debugging :: Error 0xc0000001 Prevents Windows 8.1 From Booting At All

Dec 24, 2013

- Upgraded to Windows 8.1 preview from Windows 8, works fine for weeks.

- Randomly crashed one day. I believe it may have been waking from sleep mode when this happened. It cited:

"Recovery

Your PC needs to be repaired

The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.

File: c:system32winload.exe
Error code: 0xc0000001"

- I've tried many recovery paths. BCDedit, bcdboot, fixboot, Windows 8 & 8.1 recovery media. For all of these I think I am either doing them wrongly or I get an error message that says it can't access/edit the bit where Windows 8.1 preview is.

- On a different drive I have a copy of Windows 8 that I used to clone to the other harddrive (now containing crashed 8.1 preview) over a year ago. They are unrelated I believe.

- There's a suspicious lack of Windows related folders on the D: drive containing the crashed Windows 8.1. D:windows doesn't exist and D:WINDOWS only contains one folder: "logs". The other folders such as "program files" are all locked.

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (amdppm.sys or hidusb.sys)
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (dxgkrnl.sys)
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

RESOURCE_NOT_OWNED
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
TIMER_OF_DPC_INVALID (usbport.sys)

I have multiple browsers open and I play some browser based games. Usually not too much else running and hogging resources that I am aware of.

Debugging :: Windows 8 - Computer Wont Boot Up - Get The 3F0 Error?

Nov 29, 2013

Computer: HP Pavilion DM4 3070-se (Beats Edition)
OS: Windows 8

It would not boot up, and when I started it the BIOS showed a '3F0 hard drive not exist' error. I left it until this morning, and tried again. Everything booted up and it reached the Windows 8 login screen -- I have automatic login enabled, but the screen freezes (spinner indicator stops suddenly) and the screen goes black. It restarts again, and sometimes I get the Windows 8 repair screen, sometimes I get the 3F0 error again.

The inconsistency makes me think that something is screwed up hardware-wise, but I'm not totally sure. Apparently, from reading online, the problem could be the HDD (I don't think this is the case) or a poor cable connection (most likely), or a software problem.

Because I don't have recovery media for Windows 8 (I installed it on a USB drive I don't have with me) I can't try a system refresh or restore, but I'd rather avoid those if at all possible.

Do you all think that a good option might be to take it to a hardware repair place and have them check the cables for errors?

So my computer (HP pavilion HPE) BSOD'ed for the first time yesterday afternoon (running Windows 8.1, upgraded via download from original Windows 7, so I don't have a recovery disc). Along with the error code, the BSOD says that File: WINDOWSsystem32winload.exe is missing or contains errors.

Debugging :: Assembled New PC - Kernel Data Inpage Error In Windows 8

Mar 9, 2014

I recently built a new PC and I'm having trouble figuring out if the cause of the crash is the mobo, the ram, or the SSD, or the pagefile. I ran memtest and one of the sticks of ram came back with errors so I've taken that out but I don't know if it was the stick or the port the stick was in, I plan on checking that soon.

I don't know how to check to see if the SSD is faulty.

When the crash occurs the audio cuts out and all of the USB devices turn off, Windows 8 then says an audio device was unplugged. Then it cuts to the BSoD. Windows doesn't create a memory dump, I followed the guide in the sticky.
