View 12 RepliesI am currently working on a desktop and ended up formatting the HDD it was in RAID, but removed the other and switched connection to SATA...
Wiped everything off of it and loaded Windows onto it,
On EVERY boot I get the same error message
"Fatal Error - failed to locate memory table(s) to make adjustments, press any key to continue"
I press any key and it continues to boot into the windows..
I have done some research on other forums, and end up finding the same issue "reload windows there are some file issues" but that's not my issue, because i CHANGED the RAM 2 times with different ram AND installed windows 4 different times.
I am using windows 8 and from time to time the whole laptop freezes with only short moments where you can move the mouse until it freezes again.
And today I was using word and the program wouldn't let me work in it, you could see the mouse movement at the bottom of the screen only. I had to shut it down using task manager for it to work again.
After making clean install of Windows 8.1 (before I had Windows 8) then my laptop started to hang from time to time.
Selecting tiles in Start screen with keyboard is normal as it used to be , mouse moves normally but HDD light is not on or blinking. Clicking with mouse does do nothing.
When I click fast many times then it finally opens App from Start screen on a program in Desktop mode but everything is slow for 3-4 min. Then it automatically works as it should be, like nothing would be wrong.
I have a new lap top with windows 8 .I do not know how to see the time and date. It suddenly appears on lower left for some reason but I cannot see where to access it when I want it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI work and live in two different time zones. I'd like to display my home time zone, but my system time must be set to the network time and gets reset if I change it. I used to use the clock gadget in Windows 7 but Windows 8 no longer has it. I'm looking for a solution that is not invasive and hopefully free. I'm a programmer so I know a good deal about Windows, but I can't figure this one out. I am aware of the tool-tip time; its not what I'm looking for. I want to be able to check my time on the computer screen at a glance.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 8 as an update from Windows 7. After the installation I chose a background color, I set a password and after that there was a black screen. I was able to move the mouse around and after 20 minutes I rebooted. However, it shows the black screen within two seconds, nothing works. I have tried to boot into safe mode but also that doesn't work.
I have an Asus R500V
Intel core i5 3210M, 2.5 GHz
nVidia Geforce 610M 2 GB
4 GB memory
I read something about there being a problem with the nVidia drivers, however I can't find a solution that works because I can't boot into safe mode.
I've never used Bitlcoker before
Have win 8.1 pro
Can I use this to encrypt my office 365 access database files or folders, too?
If so, how?
Also, I'm currently saving files to 'skydrive / myusername'. Is that the same as the new Onedrive pro?
I want to understand where to save my files to have BOTH local & onedrive copies.
We have a new Windows 8 pc and have a password set on it to stop our children from going on it but we have a feeling 1 of them has and also he has worked out the password.
So is there a way to check in settings what time the pc was turned on and off?
i have looked in settings but can not see anything that would tell us.
I build computers for people. And after I install Windows 8.1 I want to install the drivers and set it to run first time boot again so my customers can customize it. I could do it on XP.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm just messing around with some configurations, at the moment with the aim of increasing productivity on my Win 8 laptop. I just scheduled a shutdown task, to be run every night and in the process I was wondering if there's anyway to prevent either:
Your computer from starting before a certain time or the operating system from logging you in before a certain time.
As an example, say I wanted to limit access to my computer before 9am how could you go about this?
My Windows 8.1 PC is fully updated.
I do not have any Hard Drives or Partitions set to be searched in the Drive Properties dialogue box, so why is Searchindexer running all the time and using RAM?
I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro x64. I just began to get an Event ID 1 in my event log at boot time. It's only a warning and can probably be ignored it but curious minds like to know what is causing it and possibly how to fix it. Here's all the specifics as recorded in my event log:
The backing-file for the real-time session "DiagLog" has reached its maximum size. As a result, new events will not be logged to this session until space becomes available. This error is often caused by starting a trace session in real-time mode without having any real-time consumers.

View 4 Replies View RelatedEither way, the other day I accidentally removed the date and time from the bottom right hand corner of the Windows 8 taskbar. I did this when i was trying to set the time from the Windows defaulted US Pacific Time to US Eastern Standard Time. How to get it back on the taskbar. Why my Java location on my computer is saying that it is "corrupted". I think it is related to Windows 8 upgrade.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince running the update for Windows 8.1 there have been certain websites, like the various search engines, Google, Bing, etc. that cause IE 11 to lock up every time I try to use them with Protected Mode running. When I turn off Protected Mode they work just fine. I don't recall having this problem with IE 10 and I was just wondering if that is normal for IE 11, or if it is a glitch with the web browser itself.

Just when I thought I was catching on, I find another reason to loathe Win 8!
I have two monitors. Some of my programs can take the whole screen, covering up everything including the task bar. In W7, I just used the MS clock gadget which I moved to the second screen so I could always see the time. Now in Windows 8.1 Update, I can see all the apps that I've pined to the active task bar, but I don't see the system tray with the time to the right. Doesn't have to be the task bar, of course -- could be a floating clock in the upper right or left or anywhere you like.

I know, security is important... but I work from home, in my own office. I don't have snoops skulking around my desk, so I'd like to make this go away.
1) Where on my server do I smurf that requirement
2) I've removed that account from one of my devices, but the setting is still there, and says it's controlled by administrative policy even still... where can I remove that from this device?
I am on a hp g70-457ca, running the latest updated version of Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221.
And after I close the lid on battery and it goes to sleep, and I reopen, there is no more audio until I restart. I am running windows 8.1 pro.
I have just updated my laptop to Windows 8.1, it now takes about 3/4 minutes to load after entering my password, all I get is a blank screen for all that time before I see the desktop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8 pro back in November. Windows explorer has always had issues but now I cant open windows explorer (any way) without it crashing and reload. In SAFE MODE it seems to work fine. I have tried disabling all the Services (non MS) and the Startup function but in normal mode but Windows Explorer still crashes.
I'm definitely not the only one experiencing this issue. A quick search online shows other people reporting their Windows 8 explorer frequently crashes. Is there a solution or something I should try to see if it can resolve the issue?
I had noticed 8.0 was slower booting than 7 or Vista. It is on a different HD so never bothered timing it.
Now I have 8.1 on the same HD as 7 and Vista. Here you go:
Win7 partition1 :
Win 8.1 partition 2:
Vista partition 3 :
I am not using hybrid boot - and have no interest in doing so.
There isn't anything extra in 8.1. startup - there is actually more in win7 startup ( just clipdiary).
I've recently installed a dual boot, Windows 7 and Windows 8. The installation went fine but then after a very short time my Windows 8 Screen goes black. I had to press the power button to exit. When again rebooting into Windows 8 the "blue window" shows and the spinner goes around for about 20 seconds, then all goes black.
I've checked the Power settings and ensured the "Turn off display" was "never". I also updated my Video drivers thinking that might be the problem. Both to no avail. I've done a "Refresh" and a "Reset (which took 3 hrs). Again, all was fine for a short time, but while exploring the OS, again the black screen. What else I could try to fix this Windows 8 problem.
I have run a cross a highly annoying feature with the Windows 8 OS that did not exist in Vista... It is impossible to monitor a line in or Mic recording with out being subjected to a significant sound delay... Being a musician this makes my work impossible... Is the issue with the OS ??? How can I get rid of this with out replacing my sound card (Current (IDT) I believe the old one was a Realtek or going to a retro OS such as XP or Vista...
