Windows 8 Lock Screen Stuck - Cursor / Num / Caps Lock Work

Purchased in Navy Exchange last year (around July 2013)
I have dropped it once or twice from at most a 3ft fall inside a padded case. I mostly use my computer for school work, some gaming, extensive video/photo editing, internet browsing. I've installed some debatable programs but have been installed long ago. Most of my programs included Microsoft Office, Adobe suite, Steam, iTunes, uTorrent, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, Winrar, VLC, etc. But are now gone due to the refresh I had just done last week for prior problems, but still experience problems.
I recently been having issues with my computer where it just won't respond at all. Like today, I had it working for a few hours, but then went out and left my laptop on the lock screen, and came back to it being completely stuck. Completely stuck as in, no keys or clicks would unlock the screen to the login prompt. However, my cursor was fully able to move around the screen, and my caps/num lock buttons work as they display the lights enabling/disabling them. The time when it was stuck was 8:03pm, but the clock was stuck on 7:55. But on the bottom of the front of the laptop, the HDD orange light is not lit up at all, which I believe suggest that the HDD is not reading/properly reading. Oddly enough, when I unplugged the power cord, the HDD light flickered a little then disappeared, still no response - could be related to the PSU I suppose?
Another problem I faced before was the Windows 8.1 update failure, resulting in reverted changes, etc. I also had problems in the first few months of owning this, but found it was the incompatibility of an old antivirus that I guess didn't work too well with Windows 8 causing me to have to do a full wipe before. That was long ago. Moreover, the problems I have been experiencing have been unresponsiveness, from what I believe, are the fast boot Win 8 provides (but I turned that off), issues with Windows 8 not being able to load drivers from sleep mode upon opening the laptop (turned off automatic sleep), and now with the lock screen being stuck. I know my problems aren't detailed, but maybe these problems are linked to a bigger similar problem that people have been facing? My last bet would be to do a full factory restore/ repair, although I don't have a Windows 8 boot CD.
HP Pavilion G6-2356sa - Caps Lock Light Flashing
May 27, 2014The caps lock light on my HP Pavilion G6-2356sa is flashing. The button still puts the letters in capitals, so it still works, just continually flashing. It's just stopped flashing actually.
Anyway, I've had a Google and all the results I've found say it has a black screen at the same time.
Caps Lock Notification - No Light Indicator On Wireless Keyboard
Apr 1, 2013I have a wireless keyboard with no light that tells you when caps lock is on. I have found where I can customize my task bar to show the "HP LED Indicator" on the task bar. When you click on that, it shows you whether caps lock, num lock and scroll lock are turned on. But it disappears after about 5 seconds. I want something that turns on and stays on when I hit caps lock (usually accidentally, because this new keyboard has really low profile keys compared with my old one and I'm constantly hitting the wrong keys!!!!!). I don't want to be clicking something to see the status, I just want to see at a glance!
HP told me it's not possible to have that, but thought I'd check here too, on the Windows side of things...

Windows 8 - Battery Life Indication
Feb 14, 2013I run on windows 8.. I can't find out where the battery life is anywhere! It isn't in the taskbar and it isn't in the Charms bar. It is really starting to annoy me now....
I have tried going into the notifications area and changing the behaviour of it but that doesn't work either. This is what shows up.

How can I verify that a download is in progress?Do I have 2 downloads going now that I did this twice?

i have installed Win 7, ubuntu, xp, vista.

No Bootable Device - Error On Windows 8 Acer M5 Laptop
Feb 3, 2014I have an Acer M5-581T laptop with windows 8.1 (windows 8 was already installed when this laptop was bought) and has been running fine since i received it. Last night I accidentally dropped the the right hand side of my computer about 2 or 3 inches but no more. I didn't think anything of it until this morning when i tried to start up my computer and was successful until when i tried to open an application on my desktop and my computer froze. Also when i started up my computer i heard a scratching or cracking sound in the right hand side and this continued for the nect couple times i tried to restart my computer.
So, after it froze I restarted my computer just by holding the power button and upon turning it on again after the Acer start up screen i got the message "No bootable device. Hit any key." in a blue box. Hitting any key did nothing obviously. After some research i was able to press F2 and open up BIOS but with messing around with the settings and even changing in secure mode from UEFI and Legacy BIOS doesn't seem to work. Pressing control+alt+delete doesnt work, it only restarts my laptop. I haven't really done anything like try to change my laptop from windows 8 to windows 7 so it is still windows 8.1.

Apr 22, 2013I have Windows 8 pre-installed on an Acer laptop. I have a specific password that I use on start up. However, I turned off the computer without using a proper shutdown and somehow the password has been changed because the computer will not accept the password I have used from the very beginning.
Unfortunately, although I live in Vancouver BC most of the time, I am currently in Basel, Switzerland until the end of May and I believe any record of my Windows 25 character code is in Vancouver; thus, I doubt I'll be able to restore Windows until I get back there.
I've been reading your forums and I gather that getting into safe mode in the Acer in Windows 8 is not easy. I've tried doing it the way the documentation says to no avail. I am able to get to system settings but do not find any way to bypass the startup password code.
With all the fiddling around I have done, now the cursor arrow doesn't show and I have to use <Tab> to move around the screen to restart. I restart with the <Shift> key down and that gets me into a mode where I can troubleshoot.

Sep 8, 2013I have an Acer aspire S3 Ultrabook Laptop (one of several laptops) and I am wanting to upgrade the os to win 8 pro. I have the win 8 pro pack,which is a full version i think,it does not say it is an "upgrade". Am i still able to use this win 8 pro pack to upgrade?( i thought upgrade packs are in fact cheaper)
There is the windows upgrade anytime link which i used just now,but it said that the windows key is invalid.It is a brand new pack with a new key.
I have read instructions online that say i need to insert the disk.But i am wondering if all the acer software will be deleted on C drive,although the instructions say it will be kept intact,as it has the acer recovery software in control panel on it. If the acer software is deleted how will i reinstall those? I am guessing that the win 8 pro disk will have all the right drivers?

Mar 17, 2013bought a new pc with windows 8 this week. set it up yesterday all worked fine, was on it again today - i uninstalled the crappy free trial anti-virus software that came with the computer and turned on windows defender. i was prompted to update software which i did. i turned the computer off and came back to it later.
when i turn the computer on now, it gets stuck at the lock screen. the mouse and keyboard do not work. the light is initially on the keyboard for a split second when first turn the computer on, then it goes away. the mouse is lit up but does not move. i have tried adding a second keyboard, or replacing the keyboard completely. also tried using a different mouse, it still gets stuck at the lock screen.
i have also tried pressing F8 when computer is booting up but it does not register it. i have tried to put in the windows 8 recovery CD - but this does not load.
i have obviously tried to reboot the computer several times etc.
How To Lock Start Screen
Oct 3, 2013I can't seem to find any way to lock my start screen once I get my apps organized and just the way I want them. Is there no way to lock your apps so that they can't be rearranged by someone? If not then that seems like a glaring omission. I spend a great deal of time arranging it and then my three year old comes along and messes it all up. I would like to prevent this. I know I can create a user password and just not let any use on it.

Windows 8 Won't Let Into Lock Screen
Feb 11, 2013I recently installed Office 2007 onto my Vaio. It said it was successful and needed a reboot, so I rebooted. Upon reboot, it simply won't let me get to the lock screen (where I enter my pass/PIN). I have control of the keyboard (I think) because I can still adjust the brightness. The track-pad won't register my click to get into the lock-screen.
I tried to get into safe mode, which I've read is done by holding Shift and pressing F8 repeatedly at bootup. No go on safe mode.
Is there some alternative way to get into safe mode or somehow get into the lock screen?

I have my taskbar at the bottom of Desktop which contains all the icons I want to access and it means now I am going back to Desktop from the Start. How can I organize my laptop that I don't directly to Start Screen from Lock Screen but go to Desktop?
