I have ultrabook with Windows 7 (Intel HD 4000 / nVidia GT 620m). I installed some old games with low resolution (620x480; 800x600 ...) and it worked fine - system kept aspect ratio and created black bars when needed, so game looked normal. About a week ago for some to me unknown reason it began to change it. Every game is widened now and looks "fat". Even when I change resolution and settings in game that allows it, the screen is widened anyway. My graphic control systems seem to be "cut" - they dont have any option to "keep aspect ration" or so. control panel neither. I did not instal any updates or new drivers, so I do not know what exactly happen.
I am currently having a problem playing 4:3 game with no wide screen support on my 1440x900 (16:10) monitor. What I mean is that when I play it full screened, the game is stretched.
This was funny because It used to add the black bars for me on the sides to keep the 4:3 (800x600) ratio. But then disappeared after I decided to update my graphics card's drivers (Nvidia 9600 GT). I searched everywhere constantly over the net and this forums using the search for a solution but it only seems like people want to remove the black bars, I WANT them.
There are some solutions saying that I should check the "Maintain aspect ratio" selection in the Nvidia control panel, but because I don't have the "Flat Panel Display Monitor" option in my control panel (seen below), I cannot access it.
It seems even if I specify a 16:9 resolution to render in, I am seeing borders.I hit Render As.. then Custom. But there is.. a drop down box next to Aspect Ratio ? With a lot of numbers/decimals and such that I cannot understand at the moment.. which do I want?I'm using .mpg format because my Playstation 2 is kind of limited.. I'm not sure if I should try the other .mpg format ? I don't wish to add borders no more?
I recently installed a Media Center server as a centralised location for all my media including broadcast and satelite TV. I view / play media using Xbox 360's as Media Center extenders. The setup was straight forward and works really well across my network. However I have one issue that I can not resolve.
Any items that have been recorded on the composite video input (satelite TV) of the TV tuner card in my Media Center server are in 4:3 aspect, but only when watched via xbox. If I watch these recordings directly on the Media Center server, they are in the correct 16:9 format. Xbox squashes the picture and puts black lines down either side of the picture. It does the same thing if you watch live TV from this composite video input. Digital TV inputs work fine.
Perhaps this is related to the file format used by Windows 7 - WTV, which from what I have read seems to have additional information embedded.
Win 7 32 bit HP.Win Media Centre and Win Media player DVD43 to decode other regions' DVDs A couple of DVDs that I have bought recently have a little message on them just as they start to actually play, saying that the aspect ratio has been altered to fit my screen. This makes everything fat, because the videos are 4:3 and the screen 16:9 If I play the videos in Win Media Player, the message shows, but then the video plays OK. If I play in WMC, the message shows and the video is widened. So it's not WMC, but something else that is trying to "fix" the video.
I have a hp mini 210 netbook. Im trying to run games like broken sword on it. In my previous windows 7 instalation, i just selected 'maintain aspect ratio' from the display properties, and it gave me a full screen game.
I had a terrible virus, so had to format and install another windows 7.
I noticed the graphics driver is a bit different, and now when i select 'maintain aspect ratio', it makes no diffference whatsoever. how to actually get full screen again?
Can I upgrade from Windows ultimate 32bit ver 6.1 ( build 7600) to windows 7 ultimate 64bit edition and keep all of my installed programs and files ?[meaning not having them moved to a new folder called windows.old]
I bought the full retail Win 7 Ultimate and trying to upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate, both 32bit. I get to the Expanding Windows files to 21% and nothing. The program is still running and stuck at 21% but after waiting 3 hours I shut power off and Vista was reinstated. Why can't I get past 21% Expanding Windows files? I want to use the upgrade because I have a ton of programs on my Vista and don't want to spend days reinstalling them.
how can i change my 32 bit win7 ultimate free dos to 64 bit win7 ultimate?can i do it without charge? where can i get it done?? can i get the iso/disk in downloadable format?
I've tried to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to 7 Ultimate 32 bit numerous times now, all with the same result: a BSOD during the install process, which I get during (what I think is) the final step called "Transferring files, settings and programs."
The installation compatibility test warns me about my Nvidia drivers, which I've attempted to both remove and upgrade to the latest version, but that doesn't seem to make a difference (I still get the warning during the compatibility check, and I still get the blue screen). I'm not sure that's even the problem, either. I can't (easily) remove/replace the video card, since my mobo doesn't have onboard video, so I'd hopefully be able to avoid having to do that.
The error in the blue screen is a nebulous "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER" message. The technical information is "STOP: 0x00000018 (0x00000000, 0x86478030, 0x00000002, 0xFFFFFFFF)."
As a zip file, I've attached the setup log, error log, compatibility report, and what I think is the setup dump file, all of which I found in C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther (I believe that's the right place to look). The logs complain about BthMig problems, which I think has something to do with bluetooth, but I don't have any bluetooth peripherals. I've uninstalled things that I thought might have some bluetooth things in it, like MS Intellitype (maybe a stretch), but again, no difference.
System specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, on an Asus M2N SLI Deluxe, with 4 GB of ram, and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. The hard drive I'm installing (upgrading) on has about 100 GB free.
I'm trying to upgrade a computer from Vista Ultimate (32 bit) to 7 Ultimate (32 bit) and I keep receiving this error message:
"This installation disc isn't compatible with your version of Windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computer's system information. To install a new copy of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc, and then select Custom (advanced)."
Now, I double-checked all the system requirements and the system is compatible with 7.
Today I began installing windows 7 ultimate on my laptop. However, I grabbed my ultimate N disk instead of my Ultimate disk. is there a way to upgrade to normal ultimate version. I have setup windows media center on every tv in my house and would like to have it on my laptop lol. I would realy rather not wipe and reinstall so i dont have to install all the drivers and anitvirus again...
I am about to install windows 7 on my Mac Via bootcamp, The issue that I am having is that I lost my windows 7 x32 Pro CD but I have my CD key. Now I have a copy of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. My question is, can I use my CD key for Windows Pro while using the Windows 7 x64 Ultimate CD just to install windows 7 pro?
if this has been asked before, but I was wondering how many GBs of storage Windows 7 takes up? I was recently given a 60GB SSD for my computer. The plan was to install Windows 7 and a few programs / games on the SSD and use my 3TB HDD for everything else. After I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and a few basic programs my SDD is practically full. Is this normal?
I installed practically all important and optional updates Windows offered. Looking back on it now I am thinking that this might have been a problem. Are there updates that take up a lot of memory that I don't need? Also is there a way to uninstall previous updates?
I know that to add more than 8gbs of ram you need win7 pro or ultimate. My question is, do I go for pro or ultimate? (Upgrade). Also what are the true benefits of having say, 12 or 16gb of ram?

Unable to use rename. Command is normal for less than 1 second then reverts back to prior state. I have to use "properties" to rename files. Cannot use Favorites or Bookmarks. They drop down normally but disappear before you select anything. Cannot type addresses in Firefox or IE. I type 1 or 2 letters and they become high lighted in blue, as in rename, and are deleted for the next letter. Now I type the site I want in a search engines and enter the site that way. My system is built around a P5q3 Azus motherboard and runs 7 Ultimate, Norton360, Advanced System Care, and A-Squared free.
Why is Windows 7 Ultimate very slow? I've done a complete reinstallation of windows 7 ultimate wiped out the entire disk, after installing a few programs it starts to become slow, (Its like watching paint dry) Here I will list the system's
when I decided to start my computer today, everything seemed pretty normal. I had no problems at all with the Win 7 loading screen but after I typed the password, the "Welcome" loading screen came up. I waited and waited but tnothing happened, so I restarted it. It has been like that for a few hours now.
I have a Dell XPS 410 Desktop with Windows XP Pro SP3. Specifications of the machine are: Windows XP Professional SP3, 4GB DDR2 SDRAM, 768MB nvidia 8800GTX video card, 500GB hard drive (2 x 250GB as RAID1)
I would like to know if I can upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate without doing clean install or dual boot. Is there an easier way to do this or do I have to do Clean Install.
I've got a code that allows me to upgrade to Ultimate, just wondering I am current running Home premium 64-bit, if I upgrade will it delete any of my files or restore to factory settings or do a master reboot ? or will it upgrade and be the same as before just running Ultimate instead ?And Is ultimate worth upgrading to ? does it make my computer better ?
My dad downloaded lots of bloatware and phishing programs... I want to reformat his computer. He has windows 7 32bit ultimate installed. He has the disc for 32 and 64 bit upgrade cds. Can i switch his to the Windows 7 64 bit? If so, how?
I have a gateway desktop model gm-5483e with a motherboard ecs-945gct-m3 it came with vista home premium 32-bit what hardware do I need to swap out to make the 64-bit version run also I want to use it for some light gaming so how powerful can I go with the CPU right now its an Intel Pentium d925 dual core with each core at 3ghz
I have a pretty basic laptop (5-year-old Dell Vostro 1000). I use it only for web surfing, e-mail, and "tinkering." I recently upgraded RAM to 2GB (all it will hold), replaced the hard drive with an SSD, and upgraded from XP to Win 7 Home Premium (32 bit) just to see what would happen. There were obvious performance improvements, and I'd probably see more if I had faster internet service (only thing available here is 768K DSL). I know it's like putting lipstick on a pig, but now I'm curious to know if I could upgrade Win 7 to the Ultimate version (as I said, I like to tinker). Is there a 32-bit version of Ultimate? Windows Upgrade Advisor says this machine will not support 64- bit, though I'm awfully tempted to try it anyway. What would Ultimate get me that I don't already have? Is this a wacky idea I should just forget about?
Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit on desktop PC has been running fine for several months (legit dvd and serial number). It had a pretty old NVidia 6600 graphics card so I decided to replace it with a newer card as the latest 64 bit drivers didn't seem to work and so I reverted to the old drivers some weeks ago and all has been fine since.
On installation of the new graphics card the PC wouldn't boot. It goes to the black screen with the coloured widows logo and wouldn't go any further ( I know the card is OK it came from my sons PC). I tried a repair boot without the cd and that didn't do anything either. I reverted to the old graphics card. Still wouldn't boot past the black screen as above BUT if I leave it I can hear the chime as Skype starts so it would appear as though Windows is actually booting but not displaying the desktop.
I have tried a repair from the boot menu and from the original dvd and they just hang on the blue graphics screen with the birds and the white squiggle. I therefore decided that I would do a reinstall and a new install now hangs at the same screen. If I try a boot to safe mode the boot hangs at classpnp.sys.
Ideally I don't want to do a reinstall but I will if I have to and if I can get it to reinstall.
I just got my windows 7 ultimate. I was able to successful install it on a new hard drive on another computer. It was pretty good so i decide to upgrade my vista home premium.
