View 9 Replies View RelatedAll my browsers were freezing and crashing. I was getting the DNS 1012 error. I found out I was missing my host file. I added back the host file. Chrome and Internet explorer worked ok for a little while, then they started crashing again. I took off Chrome and replaced with Opera. Opera worked perfectly for a day and I thought my troubles were over. The next day, it started freezing and crashing and I am getting the DNS 1012 error again. If it's not recognizing the host file, why did Opera work so well for that one day. Also I noticed when I go to my embarqmail account, that's when the freezing really begins and then it affects other sites I go to after that.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to clone my existing laptop hard drive to a hard drive that I have encased as an external hard drive. My current HD is in two partitions - C: and D:. Norton Ghost told me that I would have to copy one partition at a time. Fine. After I copied C:, I went back to copy D:, but before beginning it says - warning/any existing data on the destination drive would be deleted. So how am I supposed to move one drive at a time? I don't want multiple partitions on my new HD if I can help it.
I went ahead and began copying D: onto my external drive, and when it was done, I now can't see that drive in Windows Explorer. In Disk Management I see the drive, but it looks like there isn't any data on it from the amount available. So it looks like I"m back to square one.
I have a different setup in that I have two Windows 7 Pro machines in a workgroup. One machine RDPs into the other. I need to block IE access on both PCs still allowing RDP access. I know I can rename the executable and I think there may be a way to block port 80 in the windows firewall but is there anything else that I can do?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to block a specific network both wired and wirelessly and wondering if there is a way to do this. I spend to much time on the internet when at home. I can now lock the computers so that during specific times I can't access the home network. HOWEVER I would like to configure one laptop computer so that it can't hook up to the home network at all. Not being able to connect with the network either hard wire or wirelessly. I want to be able to take that computer to other locations though and be able to hook up wirelessly to them. So in other words I couldn't connect to the home network but can connect to other networks.

in windows vista I could block startup programs i didn't want using up system resources, but with windows 7 I cant find a way of doing that, I understand its always a good idea to have normal startup mode instead of selective in misconfiguration. but in vista I could simply block programs in component services but the ones I want to block are not even listed in windows 7! is this the wrong place to look or is blocking startup programs not an option in windows 7?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI made a post awhile back about a HDD making clicks, as though the arm was resetting. Occasionally while accessing files explorer freezes. I however noticed this has (so far) only occurred at a specific point of disk usage.I'm hoping I can some how amputate the bad section of the drive so it is never read or written to, or even seen for that matter. There are no disk errors in a scan, so I just want to cut a chunk out of it and hope for the best. Is there a safe way to do this?

I'd like to add a program onto this new build which will prohibit ANY software of any kind from being installed, unless a password is entered. The PC will run Windows 7.I plan on buying Window 7 Home to put on the PC.I know that AppLocker would achieve this result, but I'm not forking out an addition $120 for that feature in Windows 7 Ultimate.
