Wireless Network - System Tray Icon Wrong
Apr 30, 2011I have a Netgear WN111 USB wireless adaptor on my PC (802.11n NIC). It works fine with my WiFi network, but it always displays the wrong icon in the System Tray when connected. It shows the signal bars greyed out, with a yellow star on top. I have tried a Windows update on the driver, but Windows (7 ultimate) says it's using the latest driver.
Netgear only have a Vista driver for this NIC, tried this to no avail, same problem. I have no other NICs enabled on the box (wired Ethernet port disabled in BIOS and nothing in Device Manager). I have googled this issue and I'm not alone (and it's not just Netgear NICs affected). However all the solutions say remove & re-install the device. Done this, and it's made no difference.

Mar 18, 2012When I turn on my laptop the wireless connection is disabled. I have to go through the trouble shoot function to enable the wireless connection. When I turn the laptop off, the wireless connection becomes disabled.

Feb 27, 2012i have this problem where the wireless wont work after the power has been turned off and then back on. they use a power box for the main pc, modem and router and turn it off before they go to sleep to save on electricity costs. usually, my fix is to unplug the router, turn the modem off.. turn it back on and the router back on. from time to time the wireless will work after the power has been turned back on, but its either very slow or the connection goes in and out. i'm sick of having to reset everything before i want to use my laptop.

Jan 7, 2012I have a HP laptop that had Windows 7 installed on it, one day i got a message saying there were updates available, which included Service pack 1. So, i went ahead with the install however, when my system rebooted after the install there was an error message (i cant remember what it said, it was a while ago) so i immediately tried to put my windows 7 disk in, which would not boot. I have gone into bios and changed it so that it was the first boot item but still didn't work, even with F8, F12 etc. So i decided to borrow a recovery disk from a friend, it is a general one of the internet, i went through the repair options which didn't work, so i decided to format the hard drive which was successful. So now when you boot, as you would expect, you get a no operating system message. I try to put my Windows 7 disk back in to install it fresh but it still wont work, its like theres nothing in the cd drive.

Dec 29, 2011I have an Asus 1215n netbook. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. The drive came with the following partitions:
100 GB Windows 7
15 GB Asus Expressgate (a quick-boot minimal OS)
118 GB Empty partition
15 MB (unknown)
I had been using TrueCrypt to encrypt the 100 GB system partition, which required that I enter a password before booting into windows.Other than that I never touched it until now. Today I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate, so after making sure everything I wanted to keep was on the 118 GB partition, I booted into the Windows 7 setup, formatted *only the 100 GB partition* from within the setup, and selected it as the volume to which to install.Upon restarting, the third partition wasn't shown in My Computer. I went to Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management, which shows the following partitions:
100 GB Healthy
15 GB Healthy
118 GB Free space
20 MB Healthy
I've done these exact steps in the past with similar configurations, and have never had this happen to me before. I can only surmise that this is due to having had a TrueCrypt boot manager, but beyond that I am uncertain. how I might be able to recover this partition?
Network File Transfer Slow While PC Is Turned Off?

-Computer A - File server win xp sp3
-Computer B - My laptop win 7 x64 sp1

issue: file transfer from/to xp from my laptop very slow while PC is turned off. as soon as i turn pc on all gets good. this looks really weird to me, all of these 3 are connected with cable not wireless, i also have tried changing the port of the laptop cable on the router but didnt change anything.

Apr 23, 2012I have a desktop pc and a notebook, and both makes part of my homegroup, however, desktop is the default pc on my network, that would be a "server", and it is configured to enter in suspend mode after 30 minutes, the default configuration of Windows 7. This is my problem: when my desktop enter in suspend mode, I'm not able to access my files and libraries from my notebook.Is it possible to keep a network always enabled even in suspend mode or Windows never can enter in suspend mode if I want to be able to access my network and homegroup? I will prefer to have an option to keep network enabled and accessible but with Windows in suspend mode to save energy, but if that is not possible, ok too.

Sep 14, 2012i recently got an update from microsoft on win 7, and immediately after it had finished updating i had no sound in any application (aim, skype, chrome, firefox, Internet, etc.). this has happened before, and i ran microsoft's sound problems wizard and it always said that an option had been clicked off and that it had restored it.this time when i ran the wizard it says it detects no problems. i am sure it is the software, as it happens a lot with ms updates. will downloadi can't go back to a previous configuration, i don't have one to go to

Aug 25, 2011I have 3 computers all running 64bit Windows Home premium all have 802.11n cards. 2 have no problem connecting to the wireless network the 3rd can see the network but won't connect or has the dreaded yellow exclamation mark with limited connectivity.
This seems to be a windows issue but not sure. When I look at the wireless profile in windows it says the security is WEP but the router is set up as WPA-2. I have tried changing the setting in Windows to WPA-2 but that then generates another error in the network discovery window saying the settings are not correct or something to that effect.
1) I have reinstalled the driver didn't work.
2) I have removed the security altogether didn't work.
3) reset the router didn't work (Although as stated earlier the other 2 computers connect with no problems)
4) Deleted wireless profile and started again didn't work.
The following worked untill I restarted the computer but would not after that even if I applied the same steps.
1) Assigned a static IP - This worked but once I restarted the computer it would no longer connect. Tired different IP address from 192.168.1-149. No joy
2)Copied the network profile from both the other machines same result as #1.
