I recently upgraded an old Compaq running XP pro to windows 7 ultimate. The sleep worked perfectly on XP but not on windows 7.It is grayed out and unclickable I am up to try anything.

I am new to Windows 7, have it on Asus EEEPC. On Windows shutdown option I have Hibernation but no standby. Sleep is grayed. On Power options I can set Hibernation options but I even on lid down options I do not see standby option.

All I could see was the background. I tried the "ctrl+shift+esc" method to fix it, but when I hit those keys nothing happened. I'm at a loss, and I don't want to return the computer!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI frequently use the Sleep option, and it's worked fine until recently, when I wake up the computer everything comes up back as normal, but I can't launch new programs... I click the icon and the cursor in dictates it's loading, but then it stops and the program never loads.
I then have to restart my laptop.
Any clue why this is happening?
I have set the Power Options>System Settings - Define power buttons (When I press the power & sleep button) to "Do nothing", yet i can still shut down my desktop via Start>Shutdown and by pressing the physical power button.

I would like to be able to "wake" the computer withput having to use the Power Button.My current power settings are to sleep after 2 hours and hibernate after 1080 minutes (1080 minutes seems to be the default.) Sometimes I can wake the computer by pressing the "quarter moon" key (or other keys), but most of the time I have to use the Power Button which will probably wear out after much of this.what is the best power setting to avoid using the Power Button to wake the computer?

I go to open up the task scheduler and it says "The remote computer was not found" and it opens the scheduler and all the options are greyed out. I enter my computer name and user name in the Remote Desktop Connection window. I am then prompted to enter my password. I enter my password and that dialog goes away, but then nothing happens. All that is left is the first Remote Desktop Connection dialog with some fields grayed out. Even if I enter in the wrong password, I don't get an error message.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've run into problems installing OpenVPN in the past on Windows 7, but my normal fixes don't seem to work on this box. I have other Windows 7 nodes up and running OpenVPN, but none specifically on a Pro x64 box (if that even matters,) so I hope it's possible. My problem is once OpenVPN is installed, it's GUI doesn't give me an option to 'Connect' when I right-click the tray icon. Normally, there are options to Connect, Disconnect (grayed), Edit Password, View Log, etc.
Normally, I can take ownership of the OpenVPN program folder and that takes care of this precise problem, but not this time. In other versions, the GUI can be run in Vista compatability, or just run as administrator. But, this one still doesn't work. There's at least one event that manifests when the GUI launches.

recently I used a software AVG PC Tuneup and it has never been a problem for me until a couple of days ago when I decided to install it on my DELL. Now, I went to system advisory and did a system scan on recommended settings, I pressed 'fix selected' and my Wifi was disabled, I tried everything. I can't get my wifi to work without plugging in my modem directly ot my pc. I noticed my wifi radio was disabled, so I pressed the F2 button but nothing worked. I am trying to re enable my wifi radio / wireless radio connection button but it won't work.
My program intel my wifi utility tells me my wifi is disabled but I can't enable it.

As part of the same problem, I also want to have access to the text facilities of, Bold:Underlined:Italics:Bold Underline etc., functions. I managed to find the latter when I click "New"(mail) and then the "Message" tab, but when the drop down tool bar appears all the functions that appear on the right side of this panel are grayed out and access is denied.

When I go into the Windows 7 installation, this is what I see:
Extend and new are grayed out, and even in disk management, there is no unallocated space.
Can somebody please guide me into partitioning this hard drive. I've searched and the only answers I find are for dual boot setups. Partition Magic is not supported by Vista (.: 7 as well).
I read a couple threads on trying to change the default outlook account from POP to IMAPI realize it is not that easy to do, I have tried to do it by just deleting the pop account and setting up a new one but that does not work.When I try to change the default data file it is grayed out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedPretty much all my music files (even ones in separate folders) with images associated with it (like files to show album covers which are hidden), folders inside that weren't viewable before, volume information, temporary files, etc. Which are normally hidden have suddenly become viewable and are also regarded as system files (they are all slightly greyed out along with the hidden box in properties).
