View 2 Replies View RelatedOutlook 2007 Task search versus Windows7 computer wide search.
I enter the same keyword (one of the words contained within the title of a completed task) in the Outlook Task search box as I do the Windows 7 orb 'search programs and files.' The Windows 7 search returns the correct search result (along with a lot other results having the same keyword) practically immediately whereas Outlook is still searching...and searching.
If I have index options set to include the C: drive and Outlook, what's going on with Outlook?
I began having an issue with my laptops ATI Radeon graphics driver not working properly. It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware.
View 1 Replies View Related"windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX'" error I have been experiencing lately.
The problem is similar to the one I described previously (here: Windows could not start the Windows Search service on Local Computer)
...namely, I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and have experienced the same error message ( windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX', where XXX is my search query) when attempting to initiate a search via the Windows start menu search box. Unfortunately, my previously proposed solution (of removing a network search location from Windows Search Index list) does not resolve it.....and so finally I resorted to using Samhrutha's proposed solution of modifying the registry to reset Windows Search back to default (which DID work...but ended up removing all the search index customizations I had made).
However, when I then modify the search indexing options to include indexing of my C: drive, I get the "windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX'" error message.
If I then uncheck the C: drive box in the search in the search indexing options, the error message does not occur....so I then went thru a tedious process of trying to identify which folders on my C drive were causing the issue, and from what I am able to tell, the "windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX'" error message seems to always occur when the indexing options include at least one folder WHICH IS OWNED by TRUSTED INSTALLER (e.g., program files folder, program files (x86), c:, etc.). This wasn't a problem previously, so my guess is that MS Update recently (e.g., w/in the last few months) changed some security setting which now prevents Windows Search from being able to index/access folders owned by TRUSTED INSTALLER, resulting in the "windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX'" error message.
Not only does my search bar lacking in search filters (cannot search for videos only etc) but I could never get print screen to work. With XP I never had any of the above problems. How can MS downgrade their OS to such an extent??
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently updated to Firefox 18. If I go to Windows' Control Panel and then click on "Uninstall a program", both Firefox 18 and Firefox 15 show up in the list of programs. Should I just leave it as it is, or should I uninstall Firefox 15?
By the way, I updated to Firefox 18 through Firefox's update feature, if that helps.
[Fixed Possibly] Turns out its a known problem with wireless n-Draft cards. Causes stuttering, no know driver fixes are available from what i found out but there is a workaround, using bat files you run at every startup. If anyone wants to know PM and i'll dig the link up again.Anyone else getting this issue? Running 3.0.8 on 7077 32-bit. Like, it started loading pages pretty slow (quite noticably) and my whole PC, music and everything, mouse even, stutters while it does so... I just changed it to compatiblilty for Vista and will see, but it is an odd problem. Think it was with the browser or my wireless card i recently got? Nope, its still doing it!! when i load new pages.
View 9 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to configure the built-in firewall to allow IE and Firefox for Passive Outbound FTP access Port 21?
Currently, all Outbound without rules are set to Deny. Current rules for IE/Firefox set to Allow/TCP 80 and 443/Any IP.
Cannot seem to get the Elevated Command Prompt with the "netsh advfirewall firewall" commands to allow FTP access for IE and Firefox to work.
I have windows 7 Firefox 5.0. If I goto Java Test page it says I have no Java versions installed. But in Tools I have under Add-ons Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.2407 enabled. I have downloaded both manually and online latest Java versions for both 64bit and 32bit browsers. When I try to install I get Error 1606. Could not access network location %ADPDATA%/. It then just gives option to retry. Or Windows lets me select "successful" and override(?) but its still the case that I go to Java Test and they cant find a Java Installed. I have done this in both Admin and User mode.

View 0 Replies View Relatedwhen I shut down my machine, I'll go back a while later and it's still running. The screen will say that it's waiting for me to close Firefox. If I choose Force Shutdown, it warns me that I'll lose any unsaved data. In the past when I ran WinXP, I would only get this msg if I had an open file that I hadn't saved changes on. So as long as all my files were saved, I could have 10 programs open and Windows would shut them all down automatically when I shut down the computer. My work computer runs Win7, and it will do the same thing. I searched online and found a way to force shutdown, but will that shut down the computer even if I have an unsaved file in Word or Excel or whatever?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have about a dozen Firefox tabs open on my taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Win7 64bit on Dell E6510. But some of them will shift position on the taskbar on their own. Happens all the time, and it's very aggravating because I'm needing to be able to hit them quickly and often and need to have them stay in the expected position. Can't afford the time to hunt around for them. For example [URL]will often move itself to the far right. Even BigCharts.com is doing this now. None of my searches on the web can answer how to stop this. It's easy to grab/drag a tab window for another application around on the taskbar, but within the single application of Firefox this doesn't work. Why/how are these windows shifting around? This never happens on my other laptop, a WinXP SP3 machine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had a major problem and had to do a system restore which seemed to work. But now (later the same day), I have multiple system freeze-ups, first my mouse pointer changes back to the default, then programs lock up (Internet Explorer and Firefox both), then Word freezes and then the entire system becomes totally unresponsive. Even CTRL-ALT-DEL won't work. My only choice then is to do a hard shut down. It always restarts but within an hour, I go through the same gradual freeze-up and then lock-up. I don't know if this means anything, but each time the computer has frozen, I have been working on Blackboard. When it happened in Firefox, I switched to IE but now it's happened there, too.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is the 2nd time trying to type this, my system froze mid-post . Writing this in safe mode with networking. I have been having daily freezing with my PC for 1 week, today is the first time it has froze 3 times in one morning. When I say Freeze, I mean not input from the mouse or the keyboard is accepted. The mouse cursor stays seen on the screen and I see no screen movement in games. The only way to proceed is to hold down the power button to restart. Today is abnormal in that the pc/os has frozen 3 times already. Normally it doesn't freeze during the first hour of uptime. It may freeze during games like WoW or Just Cause 2, or during only Firefox usage with no other applications running. The PC is one week old (purchased on Sat) and is a self built Sandy Bridge system.
Software:
Windows 7 Pro 64b, Office 2010 32b, Steam, 7Zip, Driveimage, Microsoft security essentials, CCleaner. I believe office, steam, and CCleaner were installed after the first crash. Nvidia drivers for GPU. Gigabyte drivers for MB (though most of the MB apps have not been installed or have been uninstalled), LAN, Audio, SATA.
Hardware:
i7 2600k, Gigabyte P67A-UD4 (I moved the SATA connection to a non-intel port due to Intel announcement), G Skill F3-12800CL9-4GBRL (2x4GB), Samsung SATA F3 1TB HD, Gigabyte 460 GTX GPU, Zalman CNPS 9900MAX CPU cooler. Nothing is OC except Video card and that was by the manufacturer.
I check all temps using Hardware Monitor, Nvidia's GPU utility, Core Temp, CPU-Z and GPU-Z. The highest temp in the system is the GPU at ~ 64C under full load. Full load is done with Folding at home, the SMP client for the CPU and the GPU client. Dumps have NOT been gathered, though they HAVE been enabled by trying the standard dump and the small dump. I even changed the default dump folder to C:minidump. I assume because the system freezes the dump is not gathered as the system doesn't know about the freeze only that it wasn't shutdown properly. I have checked the event logs and again, nothing seems to be noted though I admit I do not have expert skills with event logging.
I recently installed kaspersky antivirus and scanned my system and could neither open Firefox nor internet explorer although the google chrome still works
