View 1 RepliesI am using a new ivybrdige computer running windows 7 and i have found a problem. I tried to respond to a "contact us" link on the manufacturers website and the follwing message appeared:-"could not perform this operation because default mail client is not properly installed". I understand that the 64bit Internet Explorer cannot be set as the default browser.I have downloaded windows live mail however I cannot set this as my default e-mail client. I have accessed the Start/set program access and computer default/ custom/ and it simply says " use current e-mail program there is no option to select windows live mail as the default. I miss be missing something, probably blinding obvious to you but to me

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba M750 TabletPC running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Never had a problem until a few days ago, possibly until I installed SpiderOak's latest version, 9810. (SpiderOak is a backup/sharing software similar to Dropbox).
I'm using IPv4 with the following settings:
Fixed IP of 192.168.200.192
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.200.100
DNS1: 192.168.200.144 (our SBS2003 server's IP)
DNS2: 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS)
After I have used the computer for a day or two, IE and FF stop being able to browse, period. This is both on a home network, as well as when using Wi-Fi networks out of the house. Haven't used the laptop in the office so far. I have trace routed site names (not IP addresses, thus DNS resolves), which I am able to do successfully. SpiderOak is not running, but possibly any modifications to the OS/networking might have changed things. However, this could also not be a result of SpiderOak, but rather Windows Updates as well.
Other computers on the network (home) are able to browse the internet. I am only able to browse the net and get e-mail (Outlook) when I log into a VPN connection, and then it works fine. I have tried putting in DNS1 as the gateway IP, like all the other machines have, but the laptop cannot browse or get e-mail access - no idea why. I have tried disabling the LAN connection in Windows 7 and then restarting it, but this has no effect. No recent updates of LAN connection/drivers have been installed either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got a call from a friend who recently bought a new laptop running Win 7. He says he was originally able to get to his email (presumably through a selection on his browser) but something changed and he can no longer find a way to access his email. The friend has little or no technical knowledge, so most of my questions resulted in an "I dunno" response.
I plan to visit him tonight for a look-see. I am not up to date with Win 7 features. Is OE still used for mail in Win 7? I use Thunderbird myself, and found it works well in Win 7. Do not know what mail prog. is now a MS standard with Win 7.I will try get more info and to dope things out on my visit. If we know his provider and email ID do you think we can get to his existing account and set up things so he can once again get is Email?
I just ran Ccleaner and ran the registry cleaner and well as cleaned all the temp files and such. Now I find that I cannot access my email in Firefox or IE. Cookies are enabled in Firefox. Does anyone have any tricks I can try?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI a having problems connecting to windows explorer and my live email. After doing a google search for a particular site, it took me to a local survey. When I used the trouble shooter it tell s that I have a broken connection and I should try to reboot my router. Needless to say that this doesn't work but I have many things connected and all still work. First I tried to do a restore, which not only work. But it did not respond to it. Then I tried to do a wired connection, but that is the same. I thought definitely this would work. I am using a anti virus and firewall which I cannot do a scan or a update with and has not expired. Also using OS Window 7. No recent change made or downloads.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been running XP for some years and recently set up Win 7 on a new SSD. In XP and using Opera browser, if I clicked on an web page's email link, my email client (Sylpheed) would open with the address inserted. With Win 7 and the email defaults set, it won't. Instead, it always returns an "Internal communication error" page (example link: Contact Us | PCWorld). Below are screenshots of my Win 7 email defaults and Opera preferences setting. One thing I'm not sure about, if it's at all relevant, is where Opera is picking up the default application from. In XP, it picked up Opera email as the default. The Other Application file location shown is exactly the same in both, except for the drive letter.

I know for a fact that our IT department have that portion disabled.
