Transfer Custom Macro Icons & QA Tool Bar To Another Pc?
Jan 4, 2013
I'm a syfy writer and in Word 7 I've created custom macros, assigned icons to these macros and arranged them on the quick access tool bar. Every time I get a new PC it makes me crazy. Although I can transfer the macros I don't know how to transfer the icons I've assigned or how I've arranged them on the quick access tool bar.
Right now I am backing up all my files and folders through SyncToy (for easy access) but I'd like to also back up my entire Windows image with the same kind of automatic method (only transfers changes from the previous backup). Is there a free or paid program that does this?
I have Microsoft 2003 When I open Excel I HAVE the tool bars (File, View Insert etc) on top where it should be. However the icons I put there from Tools function ie Delete columns, font size, copy, cut etc have all disappeared I tried to reinstalling them by going to Tools Custom-. When I try to select an icon for example Edit copy or even delete column arrow and try to move it up to the tool bar on top of the page it will not work.
On startup a "Zynga" icon appears on my desktop and on my Toolbar and when I press the start button it is there as well. The program was deleted some time ago, so it does not appear when I click on Control panel and "Programs and Features"This means manually deleting or unpin-ing it every day I turn on my computer.
Such as mobiles and external drives. I knew how to do this a few months ago, but I've already forgotten and I can't seem to find anything about this in the Tutorials.
I've been playing around with my icons on my desktop, getting some off devientart. Recently some of the icons i've changed (a few shortcuts and .exe's) now show up as white squares or a smaller version of the icon with a white outline around them. Yet others such as one i used for CCleaner and Minecraft remain how i have set them.I've rebuilt the Icon cache.db a few times, done multiple restarts, and have "tried" to extend the Icon cache in the registry (although my new string value doesn't seem to save into the registry) but neither have fixed the problem.
I tried out a custom theme yesterday and decided that it was too intrusive to my system overall. I had created a restore point to guard against this, but when I restored, I discovered there are still traces of the custom icon pack I installed using 7tsp on my desktop shortcuts as well as windows explorer. I can't get rid of them.
I don't think this is exactly related to customization, but rather maybe the way Windows 7 handles file paths. I have an external HD with many folders with custom icons. On my PC the drive letter which is always assigned is G. Now, when I use it on a friend's PC, which assigns drive letter E, all my custom folder icons disappear. Note that all the relevant .ico files are where they're supposed to be (inside the folders whose icons they should customize). I'm assuming Windows always tries to locate the icons on a G: drive, which only exists on my PC but not on my friend's (where it's E). How can I change that?
I have put custom folder icons (pictures basically), for some of my folders. I can see the custom folder icons, But when other computers on my network access the folders (they are shared), they can't see the custom icons. All the see are the default folder icons.
How would I get Windows 7 to sleep with a Macro Key? I have the Microsoft X6 Sidewinder Keyboard there is no obvious way to do it through the provided software other than if I were able to find a file that could be ran to execute sleep mode.
I need to uninstall Iolo's Macro Magic version 4 but it does not appear in Control Panel>Programs and Features and does have its own uninstaller that I can fine. Iolo ceased support of Macro Magic but one of the tutorials says to use the standard way to remove via Programs and Features. As I said, it does not appear there.
I have Microsoft Office 2010 32bit installed,I installed MathType 6.7 today, and I'm getting errors on macro settings. I've looked it up on google, and enabled macro settings, copy the necessary files, but the same errors keeps popping up.When I launch Word 2010 I get this: After I click OK, a new message pops up: This message goes away after about 4 OK clicks. If I try and click the MathType button on the toolbar, the second message pops back and this time it won't go away untill I close Word via the task manager..
I used XP Transfer Wizard to store my files (over 200GB) on external hard drive. Now I have Windows 7 machine and can't use them directly.I tried to use Virtual PC XP mode to import files but Virtual PC can only handle something around 136 GB virtual hard disk, so after 6 hours of transfer it stopped... I don't have the XP machine anymore - I'm stuck with Windows 7 and can't figure out how to move these files over..Is there a way to actually open all these Wizard IMGXXXXX.dat files and read them?
I saved my files and settings from a previous installation of windows 7 to an external hard drive using windows easy transfer. Now when I try to transfer those files and setting to my new installation I get the following message:
Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer your files and settings.
The message pops up only a few seconds after the transfer begins. Why is this?! I need those files and windows has screwed me.Everything is basically the same as before I reinstalled. Same computer, same windows 7 installation just recovered to factory settings.Same system language as before.BTW I'm on a Toshiba L505 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have tried all the usual suspects such as a clean boot and uninstalling my antivirus to rule out third party interference. I have more than enough space on both my computer and on the external hard drive. I have tried only transferring a user account a few MBs large. I have reinstalled the OS twice just in case something went wrong there. I have clicked on the .MIG file directly. All lead to the same error message. The transfer file seems to be intact and not currupt
Is there another software other than WET that can use the same transfer file that WET created to restore my files? Please help me solve this if you can or at least point me in the right direction because right now I'm clueless. I can't emphasize how important those files are to me. I've searched for solutions on several forums and it seems that this is a problem people have been having for years now and windows hasn't provided an answer yet.
An interesting note, When I reboot the laptop after trying to do the transfer, a new user account appears at startup alongside the one I normally use. This new user account has the same unique name of the user account I am trying to restore but that's where the similarity ends. All the settings for this account are default settings and empty folders.
I created a few shortcuts from chrome and added them to my Taskbar for ease of use. I created one for each of my multiple Gmail accounts etc and I changed their icons to something so I can identify which was which. The shortcut's took the icon and worked fine for a short period than I noticed every time I click on the icon after changing the default icon to my new one It would change the icon back to Gmails default one.
all my icons on desktop and computer have turned to notepad icons... and they open with some text on notepad... looking for a solution to go back to normal settings...
Some of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.
Not sure if this is in the right part of the forums? but here we go. I am formating and reinstalling windows 7. I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop. Intel 2.3 ghz duel core, cpu. upgraded to 4 gig of ram. done months ago. New 750 gig HDD. New to this install. just bought it. Installed with a dell windows 7 disk. It activated fine. had a few problem with the install. could not install Windows 7 usb dvd tool could not install Office 2010. Did get NOD 32 install and all the windows updates. I figured there was aglitch in the install. I formated and reinstalled windows 7 from a usb drive i created on another computer. that i just installed the windows 7 usb dvd tool on. windows loaded fine, so first thing i tried to install the windows 7 usb dvd tool would not install. so formated and started again. All went well windows 7 activated fine. tried to install the windows 7 usb dvd tool again no joy. so I went ahead and installed all the updates. NOD 32. windows office all went well. tried again to install the Win 7 usb dvd tool no joy. I have googled the problem there is no info out there on this problem. I searched the problem in this forum nothing. I had this tool running on the original install before i started this whole thing and it worked fine. Any suggestion would be great! Nothing invested but time!
I purchased 4GB of RAm a few mnths ago and also got a copy of Vista HP64. From the get go I had all sort of issues in Vista - games would not run, the OS seemed to crash a lot, would get messages like MS Outlooks data file was not closed properly. Windows defender would crash all the time.Tried about 15 different nVidia drivers... gave up. I tried 3 different HDDs too.
So anyway I moved back to XP because I assumed it was simply Vista.
This week I downloaded Win7RC1!! I'd heard nothing but greta things on podcasts, in forums etc. So i installed.
From the start I've had again defender crashing, "windows logon" errors, action centre shows me a LOT of errors that it's detetced and fixed. I get a few "explorer has stopped working" errors too. UGH! Games do not work - they freeze either on loading or after 30 seconds or so of gaming. I've had 4 or so BSODs which I had heard were basically unheard of in Windows 7! They were of varying variety.
All these erros in 3 days worth of running Windows 7? Seems a lot.... and errors on core components of Windows 7 too.
I am regarded as the family and friends computer problem solver and in a lot of cases e.g. slowdown/virus etc it is just doing a bit of housekeeping which they don't or can't be bother doing. However this takes a bit of time and I was wondering if there was a good tool out there that you would recommend to save me crawling through their PCs uninstalling unused programs, clearing out .tmp files etc etc - you know the kind of things.
