I have several media folders with lots of large jpg, bmp and mp4 files stored on a USB Stick.If I plug the stick in on another computer it takes a very long time until all the thumbnails for the files are generated. I want to plug in the stick and see the thumbnails for all the media files immediately.is there a way to store the cached thumbnail information right inside a folder to make it "portable"?
View 5 RepliesI have Windows 7 Pro official release. When viewing folders on any drive under Computer: "Hard Disk Drives" the thumbnails show for all images. This is good. When I open up anything under Computer: "Portable Devices", such as my cell phone, it shows no thumbnails, only icons. This is bad. I need to be able to manage the photos on my cellphone.
I already checked the folder settings and "display only icons" is NOT checked. So how can I enable thumbnails on my phone? Is there a setting in Windows 7, or perhaps a setting on the cell phone to allow Windows 7 to write thumbnails to the folder? It's the Storage Card on the phone, so it really shouldn't be write protected in any way.
Due to a NTFS hickup, a folder (1,3TB) ended wrongly up inside the system volume information (win7) folder. Wanted to move it back to it's root, but to no avail...
Tried take ownership, cacls, safe mode, tools etc.
Need to to really move it, because the 2TB disc had no room to do a copy. It's really a FAT/NTFS table issue.
I'm using DVD Shrink to make iso's from DVD's and I've noticed that my ISO files are being stored in the VirtualStore folder. The file is fine and I can burn it back to DVD w/ no issues just strange how it doesn't store it in my root c: directory.

Is it possible to load all the thumbnails for a folder when i open the folder in windows 7? Currently, windows only loads the thumbnails for the pictures that i have in view, and I have to scroll down for it to load the rest. I'm using fastpictureviewer to view thumbnails of my RAW .CR2 pictures so the thumbnails take some time to load, and my folders can have hundreds or thousands of pictures in them and i dont' want to have to scroll down and wait repeatedly to load all the thumbnails.

Now before I formatted windows on drive C:, I encrypted a folder with Bitlocker. Now this folder was on another harddrive D: on my PC. After the format on C: drive, I cannot access any files in the encrypted folder anymore. The folder is color green(so are all the files inside) and when clicking on any file inside, it tells me "you don't have access to open this file".
This started suddenly after I turned my desktop pc off before going away for a week. When I came home and turned it back on, it hasn't been "normal" since.When I start my computer, go to my user folder, documents etc., all appears fine. Folders/thumbnails and images within the folder appear as normal.However, if I open (for instance) my "downloads" folder, the folder icons and associated icons are initially displayed as "normal", but I see that the explorer bar (where I see C:/user/downloads, etc) is "computing items" but it never stops. A green "progress bar" SLOWLY moves across that "text window" and then it stays green. As if the pc is having trouble reading what is in the folder.Once that happens, if I back out of the folder and then go back in to it, most of the folder icons/thumbnails/pictures are no longer visible. If I navigate to other folders, it's the same thing; many (but not all) of the folder icons and the thumbnails within are not displayed. Example: in my "user file" the AppData and Tracing folders, the icon is non existant....yet my Contacts, Desktop, Favorites, Documents etc. are shown as standard windows "yellow folders" but not the thumbnails that I have associated with them. Also, the file info (if I highlight a file name) does not appear at the bottom of the explorer window, as it normally would for me.I have run my anti-virus, malwarebytes, which are showing no problems and I have also tried "indexing" but no luck. I do have an external drive that is close to full, but it is disconnected. My C drive is
currently 873gb full of 1.35tb. Recovery partition is 1.63gb free of 13.2gb - which I have never "messed with", though I have previously done 2 "reset to factory settings"
I have a some folders with lots of icons or lets say pictures. So when windows start to make thumbnails it can take some time and it's quite irritating. I've noticed, that it only happens when I restart, so when the thumbnails are created they probably stores at some location and after restart they are deleted. Is there a way to save those thumbnails or previews so when I access specific folders they will show right away with no delays?
View 9 Replies View Relatedheavy-handed cruising down my Favorites list accidentally drags an innocent Favorites folder inside of the folder above or below where the disappeared folder was. I confidently go to "Organize favorites" and pull up the list of favorites. Problem is: I can't just drop & drag a folder that's stuck inside of another folder. It just gets jerked back inside of the wrong folder. The stuck folder is forever stuck as it seems like all I am allowed to move are folders which are lined up neatly against the left margin of the list, not one that is hiding in the wrong place.

And the software itself has to be installed inside "Program Files" too, otherwise it won't work correctly (it's a new release and still a bit buggy).Now, when I add something to this library, it's supposed to be present in the library folder. BUT Win 7 doesn't show me any files that have been created by programs inside the "Program Files" folder. The folder where the new library is supposed to be is empty. But the library is there inside the program, so it has to be somewhere.Now, how am I supposed to backup those files if I can't access them?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been an XP user for (many) years and have just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). I successfully imported all my old OE mail folders into WLM, appearing as "Storage Folders" in WLM under "Imported Folders". So far no problems.
I have traditionally separated my OS and data files (including e-mail) on separate partitions so I used the trusted method of moving the Mail Store location. As expected as soon as I closed WLM, all my e-mails & account details were moved to the new location I specified.
Next time I booted the laptop every time I closed WLM, I kept getting a message telling me the files in the store could not be moved. On checking the mail store location, it had reverted back to its original location in C:users.....
As I did not know which store WLM was actually using I created another new directory and moved the mail store location again. It seems to be working now but I have 2 lots of folders, one set in the original default location and one in the new specified location.
Has anyone come across this issue (I have searched and not come up with anything) and assuming the problem does not manifest itself again, am I safe to delete the files from the default location?
How can i store my mail on my computer?

When the computer is power on it goes pass POST then does not find a bootable device, so these are the steps I've done so far.Booted to Windows 7 CD and tried the following:1. startup repair2. bootrec /fixmbr, /fixboot and /rebuildbcd - when rebuildbcd I get "Total identified Windows installations: 0"3. bootsect /nt60 c:4. command prompt and using DISKPART found that the only disk in the system was not active, so I made it active and now when I boot the system I get NTLDR missing5. bcdedit - I get access denied when accessing C:now I'm stuck ... i've read several forums, including this one, but I can't find a solution to this problemmaybe because c: is not accessible, windows repair does not see the installation of windows?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am going to build a system (actually many of them) I would like to have two drives in this system. one a very fast reasonably large (100 gig) plus VERY fast solid state hard drive and the other a very fast and very large (10 or 2 Teri) mechanical drive. My question is how do I setup the prefetch or cache or whatever to run the operating system and my recent history of programs off of the solid state and have the mechanical drive there with everything on it in case I choose to something new into the recent history list by running some program once. also have oldest bumped off solid state, when space becomes an issue, but still keep it on mechanical hard drive. I think that this system will appear to run faster except the first time you run a program. I think this would be useful for instance on a system that plays the same online game everyday. Or works with the same complicated drawing in auto-cad for weeks. I have my own ideas about how to do this, but I thought I might throw this out there to what it sounds like when it hits the wall.

Tried running the System Update Readiness Tool but the Hotfix for Windows KB947821 it wants to install first always fails, and you can't say no to this or it says process aborted by user.Some other sites discuss copying files from another PC, which I don't have as I have a Mac. Also registry editing. Is there any way to fix this without doing either?Win 7 SP1 isn't installed. Tried downloading it (as Win Update won't find it) but it won't run - the same 800737 error and advises downloading the SURT as above. The error again is Windows component store corrupt.Win Update constantly wants to install 3 important updates, suspiciously all the same minute size of only 15kb - KB2676562, 2679255 and 2709715 from April, May and June 2012. These appear to install ok and go into the update history, but then show again and again as needing to be installed - clearly all related to the corrupt component store.

It was unbootable due to an encryption issue that I had created, so as part of the service, they loaded Ultimate on it. When I got the machine back, it worked fine, but I couldn't shut it down without holding down the power button (would always reboot). I still don't have any issues with my machine, but when I run scannow (many times) I get errors about seemingly important files, but I can't tell if I have cause for concern, or what the next steps should be, since I don't have any way to replace the corrupted files. I would prefer not to have the OS reloaded.
