Random Lockup When Playing/using Windows Software?
May 20, 2012Unfortunately I'm not getting any BSOD's or error messages of any kind. Using Windows 7: 32 bit (I have no logical reason other than ignorance at the time for the 32 bit, and only laziness is keeping me from reinstalling to 64).
I started noticing the issue when playing the onine MMO called Rift. The computer locked up a few times during play there, but then that stopped (I'm trying to pull this from memory...the issue has been going on for several months now). After it stopped locking up in Rift, I thought the issue was gone, but it would lock up tight when I'd play one of the card games that are installed with windows! The issue became a real problem when I started playing Age of Empires Onlilne (another microsoft product). I might go 10 minutes playing the game before it locks up tight, or I may go for hours (if I had to give it an average time after reboot, I'd say 40 minutes or a little less).
I NEVER get a BSOD, error message or anything else out of the ordinary. I can hit reset button to get out of the lockup, but no key functions will help me. Mouse cursor freezes/screen freezes, and I have to hit reset or on/off button to escape it.
I've updated all my drivers, used registry cleaning software (what a waste of money!), tried shutting down any background programs possible...I'm just tired of the issue, and want to fix it without total hard drive wipe. I actually bought a new hard drive and ram upgrade, and want to have a dual boot system with 64 bit installed on the second hard drive if someone can tell me how to to that setup (I think I can manage, but I'm not afraid to hear someone's instructions, when they KNOW how to do it for sure). I would still like to resolve this issue if possible. I don't know if it could be a known issue from a past security update, or something along those lines, but I know for sure that this hasn't always been an issue.
I actually ran Event Viewer to look for a repeated issue that was there many times. The one that stood out was under the information tab. There were over 1500 events in the last 7 days alone on this one hit. It was a service control manager issue (whatever that is). Under Admin. Events, there are several tags around each freeze, but I dont know if any of the information is relevant to this issue.
Lockup/freeze After Boot?
Sep 11, 2012I have a Samsung chronos 7 running windows 7x64, a few months old, and as of yesterday it has developed a problem. It boots up and I can login as quickly and effortlessly as normal, but after a short while, 30 secs to a minute after, the whole machine becomes unresponsive and incredibly slow.it cant even open windows such as "my computer", and cannot shut down, i have to force a shutdown with the power button.I noticed after a couple of reboots with that happening that when it freezes the hard drive activity light is solidly on, as if the drive is in constant use.At this point I attempted to run chkdsk as soon as i logged in, trying to beat the lockup. It crawled to 67%, stage 2 verifying indexes, 329020 of 361216 processed. At that point it froze for hours.I reset and booted into safe mode and ran chkdsk again. This time it sped through to 67% again, even the same index number and froze.In safe mode the computer was useable slightly longer before it froze and chkdsk ran faster but same result, no response, light solidly on and its now been there for 7 hours on 67%, whearas reaching that point took about 5 seconds.Also accessing logs may be a problem as i only have my phone to get on the internet with, but if theyre small files i may be able to upload them from here.I really dont wanna have to replace the drive or reinstall windows as my backup external drive died last week and I haven't got the money to buy a new one at the moment, so i have no backups of my laptop or facility to make one, so thats a last resort. Also running any programs is an issue because of the 30 sec winfow before it locks up.

Mar 6, 2011I was running the Windows 7 home premium 32bit upgrade on a Toshiba laptop that was running Vista Home Premium 32bit. The upgrade process rebooted at somepoint and now it keeps rebooting to a DOS window with a command prompt on drive X. If I try to run the install.exe off drive D (CD-ROM) it starts the process and then stops saying the installation booted of the Windows 7 installation CD please remove the CD and restart. I cannot get past this endless loop. Nothing will boot completely.

Feb 24, 2012[code] I built it at my house got it all setup and running fine with Win 7 and then hooked it up for them. About a week later they start to see this on their screen which is followed by a total lockup of the system that can only be fixed by powering down the system.Hooked it up at my house and ran memtest. I saw similar effect in memtest where it was blocks with smiley faces of some sort inside them. Computer completely locked up had to restart. Other than that memtest detected no error in the ram.Updated BIOS to newest version. I left the PC running for 24 hours after updating BIOS without any problems. Sent it back to their house and the problem is still occuring for them.I do not know what else to try at this point other than returning the mobo or CPU. Im not even sure what would be at fault in a Sandy Bridge CPU.

Jan 30, 2012I'm running a homemade rig, which worked fine on my 42" TV as a "HTPC/Gamer." Moved it from its spot in the entertainment center to my desk and BAM! Locks up or hangs during gaming. Zero activity, temps on my Strike-X drop to ambient, no Ctrl+Alt+Deletes, power button press resets, or power button hold resets. Only option is to flip the power switch on the PSU. Now, I've ran a compliment of stress tests with the PC laying flat, no problems or spikes or anything. Furmark, Prime95, Unigine Heaven DX11, even CustomPC (a UK magazines') benchmarking suite for hours, no problems.
I've already updated BIOS for the Mobo and Video. Up to date drivers all around (as of 1/28/2012).
[BSOD] Random Crashes. Startup, Starting Game, Once Fully Random?
Dec 10, 2011Been having some crashes.At first they occurred on start up. Claiming the computer wasn't properly shut down. Now today, the other crashes started, with the first happening out of nowhere, the second happening upon starting a video game. I've been without crashes for a while now, only having used my browser(Opera) and copying some files to an external hard drive. As well as the SF tool.I only have 2 dump files available. Feb 26, 2012I reformatted my computer multiple times, yet my computer seems to BSOD randomly.What happenes is that everything becomes unresponsive; cant alt+tab, cant ctrl+alt+del etc etc. everything freezes randomly... then boom, BSOD. its happened twice, with no apparent pattern.And then, when it restarts, it tries booting but then it goes into the boot selection screen and my SSD is nowhere to be found. Random Computer Shutdowns Random BSODs
May 10, 2012I dont know if this is the right area or not, as i just joined, but it seems to be the best place. I recently bought a new computer, and now it will randomly shut down. Its also making loud pitch noises. That just started happening. I called tech support and they told me it was probably just the power supply. Before I send it in though, i want to make sure that is what is wrong. I dont know all to put on here.

Random BSOD, Random Codes, While Using And While Away?
May 18, 2012A couple weeks ago I started having random BSOD and restarts, I have researched several different solutions to no avail. At one point, I thought the problem was solved after restoring a restore point, however, the dreaded BSOD is back after a couple of days.
- Restored the earliest restore point
- Ran chkdsk with no errors
- Ran full scan AV (just in case) using MSSE.
- Updated all Windows and drivers updates.
I believe this is related to a driver issue, however, I'm not sure which one.Attached is both the BSOD App and System Health data.
Basic specs:
- Windows 7 x64
- Original Install
- OEM
- System age: 6 months
- OS install age: 6 months (not reinstalled)
Random "mouse-clicking" Or Random Toggle?
Jun 25, 2011Whenever I am scrolling or just typing inside a MS-Word-2010 or PDF document, it's like someone is clicking with the mouse outside the window. The window menu is greyed out, and the blinking mouse cursor disappears.In order to continue scrolling or typing, I have to click back on that window.Sometimes it happens even while I'm typing, then I discover that some of my typing doesn't appear in the document and I have to click on the document again in order to bring back the mouse cursor into the document I use a wireless mouse but it also happens when I turn it off and use my laptop's touchpad 2 days ago I installed a Java update and NET framework updates.

System specs are in.... my system specs. Basically 3 times now that I've came home or came to my computer after being asleep and I see that it had experienced a BSOD.
I'm running an SSD boot drive and the computer doesn't sleep/hibernate, it just turns off the monitor after 10-15 minutes.

Mar 31, 2009I've just downloaded and installed Windows 7 7068 (32-bit) on my main PC and I've been having a pretty major issue. I start up and after a few minutes the computer will just freeze. I can leave it at the desktop for 10 minutes or play a game for 5 minutes, whatever I do, after a random period of time it'll just stop.
The download/cd is fine as I've got it on my laptop running fine...
There are no viruses as I've checked everything with different computers and scanners...
I've downloaded as many drivers as I can find that are for Windows 7, the ones that weren't I got Windows Vista drivers...
Oh, to elaborate, I've searched and nothing here helps, I can install fresh with all defaults and it'll freeze... I can install fresh with new drivers, it'll freeze... I can install fresh and load up games and applications, it'll freeze. In addition, safe mode freezes! And all other operating systems work, I haven't had any problems with previous builds of Windows 7 and Vista/XP still works fine, there's just something about 7068...
Anyone got any ideas?
Random 2-3 Second Laptop Lag
Aug 13, 2011for the past 2-3 weeks i have been experiencing 2-3 second lag spikes on my asus laptop. before this the computer was running fine. the lag effects everything from typing in the url box to watching videos on Internet to playing diablo 2. it seems like almost anything i attempt to do, even clicking on an icon on the desktop, will make the laptop lag for 2-3 seconds. i have an asus k52n-bgr5 laptop w/ windows 7 home premium. i have attempted to reinstall the os (the only form of troubleshooting i have lol) to no avail. i'm willing to post any specs/tests/etc. needed in order to fix the problem as long as i know what it is i need to post.

Random Fade To Desktop?
Jun 29, 2011I've been building and programing a loooong time but have never found a problem I couldn't solve one way or another. This one however has me baffled. I built a computer for my wife (has to be my wifes of course) this last April. I entered the specs when I registered. What happens is when on a program like say Quickbooks or on the internet or even on office, the screen will go to desktop while she's in the middle of typing.Like it would if the screensaver was coming on from inactivity. She moves the mouse and the place she was pops right back up. It does NOT happen at any timed interval. I made sure I have the latest drivers and firmware installed. I set power options to never shut down or sleep. I swapped memory, video card and power supply. Still does it.

Aug 2, 2011I recently bought an Alienware m17x and it keeps shutting down randomly. I tried reinstalling a fresh version of windows just to be sure and reupdating all of the drivers to match my computer's needs. (via windows update and Driver Genius)It never shuts down randomly in safe mode though, so it tells me: (Correct me if I'm wrong)
1) It's not one of the absolutely critical files causing it, since the files/drivers work without shutting down in safe mode
2) It's not an overheating problem since it doesn't shut down randomly in safe mode
3) Probably not a problem with the battery, or else it would shut down in safe mode too. (Right?)
I still have a 1 year warrenty with Alienware/Dell but I'd rather not wait several weeks (send/receive, fix, send back which takes a while b/c shipping takes atleast a week each way) for them to receive it, fix it, and send it back. (I'd prefer to use that as a last resort because I use/need my computer daily)Dell does have a BIOS flasher for Alienware m17x which I have not tried yet?
