[code] I built it at my house got it all setup and running fine with Win 7 and then hooked it up for them. About a week later they start to see this on their screen which is followed by a total lockup of the system that can only be fixed by powering down the system.Hooked it up at my house and ran memtest. I saw similar effect in memtest where it was blocks with smiley faces of some sort inside them. Computer completely locked up had to restart. Other than that memtest detected no error in the ram.Updated BIOS to newest version. I left the PC running for 24 hours after updating BIOS without any problems. Sent it back to their house and the problem is still occuring for them.I do not know what else to try at this point other than returning the mobo or CPU. Im not even sure what would be at fault in a Sandy Bridge CPU.
I have a Samsung chronos 7 running windows 7x64, a few months old, and as of yesterday it has developed a problem. It boots up and I can login as quickly and effortlessly as normal, but after a short while, 30 secs to a minute after, the whole machine becomes unresponsive and incredibly slow.it cant even open windows such as "my computer", and cannot shut down, i have to force a shutdown with the power button.I noticed after a couple of reboots with that happening that when it freezes the hard drive activity light is solidly on, as if the drive is in constant use.At this point I attempted to run chkdsk as soon as i logged in, trying to beat the lockup. It crawled to 67%, stage 2 verifying indexes, 329020 of 361216 processed. At that point it froze for hours.I reset and booted into safe mode and ran chkdsk again. This time it sped through to 67% again, even the same index number and froze. In safe mode the computer was useable slightly longer before it froze and chkdsk ran faster but same result, no response, light solidly on and its now been there for 7 hours on 67%, whearas reaching that point took about 5 seconds. Also accessing logs may be a problem as i only have my phone to get on the internet with, but if theyre small files i may be able to upload them from here.I really dont wanna have to replace the drive or reinstall windows as my backup external drive died last week and I haven't got the money to buy a new one at the moment, so i have no backups of my laptop or facility to make one, so thats a last resort. Also running any programs is an issue because of the 30 sec winfow before it locks up.
I have an XP SP3 desktop and a Windows 7 (32 bit) laptop connected via a Linksys router. If I turn off the XP's Windows firewall, the laptop can access the shared resources on the XP (files, printers), but with it turned on, nothing.
I was running the Windows 7 home premium 32bit upgrade on a Toshiba laptop that was running Vista Home Premium 32bit. The upgrade process rebooted at somepoint and now it keeps rebooting to a DOS window with a command prompt on drive X. If I try to run the install.exe off drive D (CD-ROM) it starts the process and then stops saying the installation booted of the Windows 7 installation CD please remove the CD and restart. I cannot get past this endless loop. Nothing will boot completely.
I'm running windows 7 professional 64 and I keep encountering at random times an error in the event log that causes my computer to lockup. This lockup comes in the form of a slow lack of access to programs and no luck at rebooting via restart or CTRL ALT DEL.
when i stream video full screen the video slows down then locks up my computer but when running save video non full screen runs fine. videos saved to the computer work fine full screen. have tryed FireFox and chrome and the bolth have the same problem. using all upto date drivers. does not have the issue when i run on my xp partition.
I have many icons on my desktop but when I arrange them by name it arranges half of them A-Z and then lists the remaining half from A-Z again. How can I get them all to arrange as one set?
I have tried to sort through the Admin fiasco in Win 7, default admin, "real" admin, just plain user, plain as mud, only M$ could create such convolution. I have Win 7 Ultimate and really like it....BUT....with a 30 inch 16 x 9 display, DVI in, hard to get a sharp screen....fonts in particular are blurred. I have gone through true type, no help.
Part of the problem is the "default" fonts. I think I know how to change them, but, big but, I cannot unlock the administration blockage even logged in as Administrator. I believe that is the problem as there is the gold & blue shield and the actions I want to take are grayed out, thus you can't click on them.
I have read others have set up an Admin with a password only to screw up their installation and I am unwilling to risk that as I have my OS set up just as I want it other than the font issue. Also, same problem in using the format capability of Win 7 for a hard drive, the gold shield/grayed out "format" cannot be accessed, again even though I am logged in as Admin.
I'm trying to setup a homegroup. At first I set it up on one of my computers. Then I tried to join the homegroup on the other one, but the homegroup didn't show up. So, I turned off windows firewall and it worked fine.
The thing is, I don't want to leave the entire firewall off - I'd preffer to add a rule exclusively for the homegroup. But the homegroup doesn't appear in the list of programs in the firewall settings. Is there a way to make such a rule?
I have just re-built my windows 7 machine after a harddisk failure. All seems to be working fine except for my external USB drive which locks up explorer and windows in general, only way out is the magic reset (even Task manager locks up).
Unfortunately I'm not getting any BSOD's or error messages of any kind. Using Windows 7: 32 bit (I have no logical reason other than ignorance at the time for the 32 bit, and only laziness is keeping me from reinstalling to 64).
I started noticing the issue when playing the onine MMO called Rift. The computer locked up a few times during play there, but then that stopped (I'm trying to pull this from memory...the issue has been going on for several months now). After it stopped locking up in Rift, I thought the issue was gone, but it would lock up tight when I'd play one of the card games that are installed with windows! The issue became a real problem when I started playing Age of Empires Onlilne (another microsoft product). I might go 10 minutes playing the game before it locks up tight, or I may go for hours (if I had to give it an average time after reboot, I'd say 40 minutes or a little less).
I NEVER get a BSOD, error message or anything else out of the ordinary. I can hit reset button to get out of the lockup, but no key functions will help me. Mouse cursor freezes/screen freezes, and I have to hit reset or on/off button to escape it.
I've updated all my drivers, used registry cleaning software (what a waste of money!), tried shutting down any background programs possible...I'm just tired of the issue, and want to fix it without total hard drive wipe. I actually bought a new hard drive and ram upgrade, and want to have a dual boot system with 64 bit installed on the second hard drive if someone can tell me how to to that setup (I think I can manage, but I'm not afraid to hear someone's instructions, when they KNOW how to do it for sure). I would still like to resolve this issue if possible. I don't know if it could be a known issue from a past security update, or something along those lines, but I know for sure that this hasn't always been an issue.
I actually ran Event Viewer to look for a repeated issue that was there many times. The one that stood out was under the information tab. There were over 1500 events in the last 7 days alone on this one hit. It was a service control manager issue (whatever that is). Under Admin. Events, there are several tags around each freeze, but I dont know if any of the information is relevant to this issue.
I had a BSOD two days ago coming out of standby and ever since the system locks up after reaching the desktop whilst trying to log in. Logging into safe mode works perfectly fine and also logging into the Ubuntu partion has no problems. I have run malware bytes and hard disk diagnostics and found no problems.
Avast Internet Security tries to send me mail and everytime I get this"Multiple Content-Type header - HIGH DANGER!"So I get a blank email. How can I get a copy of my License file from them when this keeps happening? Is there something I can turn off so I can receive email from them?
I can't say pixelation, appearing as blocks in certain parts of the screen, or even a graphics card error.I am using a Thinkpad T400 running on win 7 (I have attached a link with s/w and h/w specs).I seem to be having this glitch that is just not going away - windows updates, driver updates, clean ups. uninstalls,Certain parts of the screen suddenly appears as pixelated or in blocks.
Why Bitdefender firewall blocks utorrent port only on windows 7?
I'm using Windows 7 ultimate RTM with all the updates, utorrent 1.8.5 and bitdefender Internet security 2010. The firewall is set to "allow known programs" and utorrent was put automatically on "allow", but if I try a port test it shows that port doesn't appear to be open.
I had the same settings on my windows vista ultimate and the port was always open.
Before now, when my new laptop with windows 7 updates and refused to browse, I had to restore it to a previous date and it browsed. Now the system had deleted that old restore point and now I do not know what to do to enable the system to browse. The internet status will indicate connected but will not browse.
Just installed Windows 7 64 Home Pro from XP two days ago. The last remaining issue I need to solve is a drag and drop file transfer to my other home network computer (HNC).o far I've been able to d&d files from the HNC via Acronis WD in it's explorer mode without any issues, some sized in the multi Gb range. I'When I try to d&d a large file, specifically my NVIDIA drivers sized at 123Mb the Windows 7 computer freezes immediately. The cursor is stuck and the computer is absolutely locked, the only thing that works to recover it is the power off button. When I come back I don't get any indication of anything going wrong and if I look on the HNC drive the file has been transferred successfully
I'm running a homemade rig, which worked fine on my 42" TV as a "HTPC/Gamer." Moved it from its spot in the entertainment center to my desk and BAM! Locks up or hangs during gaming. Zero activity, temps on my Strike-X drop to ambient, no Ctrl+Alt+Deletes, power button press resets, or power button hold resets. Only option is to flip the power switch on the PSU. Now, here's the kicker, when I lay the case horizontally, it works without a hitch.

Now, I've ran a compliment of stress tests with the PC laying flat, no problems or spikes or anything. Furmark, Prime95, Unigine Heaven DX11, even CustomPC (a UK magazines') benchmarking suite for hours, no problems.
I've already updated BIOS for the Mobo and Video. Up to date drivers all around (as of 1/28/2012).
Lately I have problems with my pc, sometimes the windows blocks/freeze and I must restart from the button; this happens like 1 time in 3 hours or 1 time in 7 days, it's random. The image freeze even if the pc is in idle. I have found another problem, the mouse cursor freeze for 2 sec (the image doesn't freeze, only the cursor), and after it's coming back to normal. I tried with several mouse's. I tried with another HDD and I have the same problem..
I Installed A Bootleg Version Of The Video Game Hitman Contracts On My Vista Home Premium And When I Open It, It Says " ERROR, Please Close And Windows Will Notify you If There Is A Solution". I Saw An I-con Pop Up In The Icon Bar And When I Open It It Tells Me Some Sort Of Protection Has Blocked Use Of The Game Because It Says It Can Harm My Computer And When I Open Up The Settings And Put The Game Into The " Allow These Files Only" It Tells Me I Cant Do This.
This has been happening since the release of SP1 for Windows 7. I don't know if it is exactly that update, but it is one of them that causes a blockage of software adding menus to your context menu. The software that I'm having issues with is PowerISO and Unlocker.
This is a pain in the ass because now I have to restore to before SP1 was installed and it takes forever to reinstall SP1 with updates.
I have installed all Microsoft Visual C++ 20XX Redistributable Packages and Microsoft Visual C++ 20XX Redistributable Package SP1 downloads.
I have a toolbar on my taskbar titled "Programs". It has about eight folders in it. I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.
i protected password for my pendrive it is kingston 4gb then it showing 3.75b, but in properties it has been showing 576 kb how to get my original size (3.75gb)
I've started having a problem on my Dell desktop PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. Sometimes, when I attempt to start the PC, the process will not finish and it just hangs. It seems to happen at the same point in the process. After the welcome screen, the wallpaper and shortcut icons load. If they load all at the same time and the tray items show, the start up will be successful. However, sometimes the process stops right after the wallpaper loads. Sometimes some of the icons will appear with others as only white icons. Sometimes, none of the icons will appear. If I let it set for awhile, nothing happens - the blue circle continues to spin, but nothing else happens. When I attempt to shut down or click any of the other icons in the quick start tray, the blue circle just shows on top of them. No matter what I try at this point, nothing works. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button to shut down. Then, when I try to startup again, I get the error message that Windows was not properly shut down and I either "start windows normally" or go into "safe mode". I haven't installed any hardware since this started, and I've tried to isolate if a certain program has caused this. Sometimes I will uninstall the last program installed while I am in safe mode, but I find that this was not the problem program. When I shut down from safe mode, Windows closes properly and then I can try and startup normally again. This is sometimes successful, sometimes not.I've tried doing a full scan with Norton Internet Security and Malwarebytes while in safe mode, but they both show no issues. I also tried a startup repair in Windows, but that also showed no issues.
From what I hear, pretty much everyone in the developed world who uses 7 will have Windows Backup included - not just files and folders, but system image backup as well.
Your average punter is not going to look any further than that.
That's got to be bad news for Acronis, Macrium, etc.
Sure, the enthusiasts will check out 3rd party options - like they do with browsers.
You would think the big name must have considered an anti - trust case.
Maybe they didn't go ahead as some versions of 7 won't include it ( you're not very likely to see those).
Or because they didn't want to upset the MS lovers - witness the vitriol heaped on Opera by people who should know better.
It was available in Vista - but only the higher priced versions - people chose to pay extra for that.
Here's another chance for a controversial discussion - go for it.
I was successfully running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my machine as it was with a AMD Athlon dual core processor, on my MSI 770T-C45 motherboard.I purchased and installed a AMD Phenom II X6 1055t which IS supported by this motherboard (after bios flash).
I flashed the bios using the correct procedures, and any time i wold log into windows i would get BSOD and the message "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION" and also down below "rushtop64.sys" something... i would post the dump, but i have since formatted.I couldnt solve that issue, the computer would run fine in safe mode.i had not changed any other hardware. I googled for ages, and saw that if i was to change processor to more cores, that i should re format and reinstall windows.I got my windows disk, tried to do a clean install. Once it "completing install" and restarts, all i get is a blank black screen with the ( _ ) cursor type thing flashing in the top left of the screen and the computer freezes.
My neighbors computer is completely virus ridden. An IT person came out and wanted to charge $400 for a clean reinstall so i said i would do it She has windows xp and i recommended that she purchase windows 7. After purchasing the upgrade pack i put it in and selected custom (the clean reinstall option of the two).It gets to the "expanding windows files" part and then locks up at 42% every time. I cannot move the mouse. how to get through this? could it be a problem with the disk?
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit,i have downloaded XP mode but each time i try to install at the final point "cannot complete set up,please try again".There is nothing to indicate what problem occured.I have removed program and done fresh download but with the same result.
I have a new Dell XPS 13 (Windows 7 64-bit) and am pleased with it thus far. I have successfully created a system image on DVDs (Using Windows utility).
Twice I have tried the Windows Backup utility to back up all user files (what Windows selects) to DVDs and it does not complete! The utility gets to 66% or 67% running for approx 4-6 hours and does not prompt to insert another DVD (the 2nd). The total size of data to backup is approx 11GB. The second time I disabled the antivirus software (MSE) hoping that was causing the problem.
Any suggestions or solutions?
I'd like to backup to DVDs as I have plenty and do not have an external HD available.
My HP p6710f came with PDF Complete which lets you save a single page of a PDF as its own PDF file. This option comes up when you right click on a PDF and choose Print & then the printer, which is PDF Complete. However I did not know this was a trial program & mine just ran out. Every month I generate a PDF with several pages, but each page is for a different person. I found it convenient to print or save each persons page separately in order to email to them.
I need a replacement for PDF Complete & was hoping to find something which has the same functions. I have seem some free programs for creating PDF files but am unable to figure out if they can save individual pages as new PDFs.
