Fingerprint Scanner Works Within 2 Seconds Of Login Page Appearing?
Apr 15, 2012I have a problem with the login process for Windows. A while ago (nearly a year now) I installed a USB fingerprint reader and this worked fine for a while when all of a sudden it appeared to stop working on the login page. It turns out that if I scan my fingerprint within the first 2 seconds of the login page appearing then Windows recognizes the device and allows me to log in using biometrics, if I try after the 2 seconds then it doesn't work and I have to use a password. I really don't understand, the device is recognized, working properly and even if it doesn't work for logging in then I can still access biometric settings and everything as if it was completely fine. I'm presuming that this is a driver conflict somewhere that during the loading process something happens after 2 seconds that prevents the fingerprint reader from operating correctly but how do I find out what?

Apr 28, 2012I watch videos from this site Poker Netcast | Live At The Bike | LABTTheir login is https.Ive been in IT for 15 years and even this has stumped me.When I go to login in IE9 starts looping from the login page to the https page and back to the original page and never ends. I load firefox, same issue. I load Crome, it worked for 1 day then same issue. It used to login in fine last week. It logs in fine on my 2 other PCs and my Kindlefire.I have checked for viruses with Avast and A-Malware Bytes in safe mode - nothing. These 2 pick up 98% of stuff. Personally I dont think its a virusn IE9 - Deleted browsing history, cookies, temp internet files, everything under the Geneeral/Browsing History section. Did a disk cleanup, put the site inthe trusted zone, turned off popup blocker just in case, Cleared SSL state, Reset IE9. Zippo

Dec 5, 2009I have downloaded and installed the free Windows Security Essentials from Microsoft. I dont know if this scans emails or if there really is a need to do so.
If there is a need to scan emails and this is not covered by WSE, is there a recommended email scanner to download ?
My email client is Thunderbird.
Also, my set up has Glarys Utilities free edition to "optimise" and clear dead files etc and I wondered how good this was compared with others ?
Windows 7 Scans Before Starting
Aug 23, 2012Every time I start my computer it scans the hard drive before starting and takes 10-20 minutes, this has happened since it crashed yesterday, I think it is a problem with missing files.
How do I fix the files that cause the problem and cause it to need to do a scan?
I have scanned using the scan before startup and the windows scan (the one that requires restart)
Can't Save Scans In PDF Format
Jun 12, 2011If I use the scan program in Win7 it only allows me to save documents as a TIF or JPEG. Why cant I save as a PDF ?My printer is a HP 2570. Before I changed to Win7 I had a dedicated HP Information Centre that I used to scan,save and organise in any format I or my customers chose. This program also updated automatically but is not available within Win7. Do I need to download this program again from HP or will there be a conflict with Win7 ?

I click on "launch directory automatically" and it does not do this. I have another PC running XP and the functionality works fine. Dec 15, 2009Whenever I try to do a scan either with McAfee or Windows Defender.. And even disk defrag. it freezes the computer
I hear a noise which i think is from the hard drive.. it sound like.. Tick, tick, tick, tick.
And when it does that I am not able to open any programs and the scan stops. But i am able to move the mouse and open the start menu.

Dec 8, 2012I've worked on many before and as you know most of the time you can force a drive to spinup and cough up at least sOME data.... every now and then I get a harder case.
dealing with this caused a question in my mind:
I have the bad drive [PATA notebook drive -seagate momentus] attached to a usb bridge device that I use for all such issues. in this case, when I do a fresh start, with the external bridge powered up before cold boot, once 7 Ultimate gets coherent I run disk Management - the scan will popup the box saying "this disk needs to be initialized" and I give it the go - it gives "device not ready".that does not surprise me since the drive seems to only spin [motor runs] sporadically.
What I'd like to know is: what is the applet "seeing" - what is it in disk management that recognizes there is something akin to a Disk out there on one of the device ports?the followon question would then be: what low-level tool can I use that can attempt communication with the drive's firmware to try to get a spinup command or something to give me a chance???
I have seen an old macintosh drive - WD if I recall - that was in similar state. sometimes I could get a read via the usb bridge, but no data. finally after days of trying I gradually was able to start reading - it would spin very slowly and erratically, taking literally days to complete the forensic tool's scan....
Windows Explorer Stopped Working Even After Virus Scans
Sep 7, 2010as the post title suggests, i have had system problems since removing Antimalware Doctor. no trace of the virus seems to be on my computer but i still get the error message that Windows Explorer has stopped working. i have read other threads and followed the instructions as well as trying the suggestion of sfc.exe but when i try to open sfc.exe a CMD window pops up for a split second then quits and nothing else appears to happen. is there anything else i can try?

May 14, 2012Opening any program is either extremely slow or will crash the computer, but if it works then it works fine any other time you open it. Until the PC goes into sleep mode or is rebooted the problem is non-existent. no error messages are displayed and apparently, its not shown on the task manager's PC usage... also virus and spyware scans have shown nothing. Apr 9, 2012i have an intel i5 2400 cpu, combined with 4gb ddr3 memory. mobo is dh67bl - revision 3. no gpu installed.power supply is via corsair vx450.problem i been facing:
1) bsod saying that a clock interrupt wasnt recd. [url]
2) bsod saying: page fault in non paging area. couldnt grab a screenshot for this.
3) display randomly goes off for a split second and reappears.. but the color of the panes go blue (i havent chosen blue. my setting is for clear pane.)[url] this error solves itself after random number of hours/mins
4) display vanishes for a split second and reappears, and a small balloon at the bottom right corner prompts that the display driver had stopped working.
5) system plain hangs/stops responding. randomly happens.. but more so while on Internet, or after hrs of it idling, i come back to the comp and try to scroll the content onscreen.sometime it revives from the stuck state as if nothing happened, sometimes i have to give it a cold boot.
6) while reading forums with blue bands.. the blue bands kinda form blurry bars which stretch till the end of the screen. i tried to grab a screenshot but the screenshots were clean. the bands moved as i dragged the image about.
7) also, my comp's display went off one day and within a second came back with a blue-ish hue. it restored itself but again has gone back to blue-ish.
other relevant information:
windows 7 x64
no other os resides/installed on system
full retail version
os was installed in july.

PC Has Stopped Sending Anything To The Monitor?
Apr 5, 2011My Dell Dimension 9200 stopped sending anything to the monitor. I installed Windows 7 successfully after giving up on XP. The PC has bees stable with a newer Video Card upgrade and much more memory installed. The PC came without a Floppy Drive and when I start the PC, I have to press F1 to proceed to Windows. It was very annoying so I asked a friend and told me to disable it in BIOS and I did. Immediately after I did that, the PC stopped sending anything to the monitor. I tried two other monitor to no avail. I also tried an older PCI express Video Card and a newer one and got no reception still even though all the light indicators tells me that the PC is on. The drives are on plus the start up sound I hear when I turn it on.

Jan 30, 2013Every time I try to open a Microsoft Word file or Excel file, a popup comes up displaying the "There was a problem sending the command to the program." message. Here is a list of things I've tried so far:
1. Deleted the "Data" registry key from the correct registry path.
2. Ran the "winword.exe /r" command from command prompt
3. Repaired Microsoft Office using the installation CD.
4. Ran the Microsoft Diagnostics (which didn't find any issues).
5. Reassociated the extensions in Control Panel > Default Programs.
6. Ensured that the "Run as administrator" checkbox isn't ticked in winword.exe's properties.

Jan 28, 2011I'm running Windows 7 and have activated the Windows Fax & Scan software. The modem Verizon USB760 is our fax modem. When the software was initially activated, outgoing faxes were sent fine. Recently, it's stopped working completely. Only the coverpage is sent, the fax job fails and retries as many times as I have it configured or until I delete the fax job. I've tried typing directly into the section for page 2 of the fax, and I've tried attaching pdf or txt files with the same incomplete result. I can view the complete fax in the outbound box.

Mar 8, 2012I use Windows Live Mail 2011 essentials. I really like the plain Jane Windows Live mail but got ropped into this type in auto windows update. Originaly i just removed it thinking that the Plain Jane mail program would be re-instated but it was not, could not find just windows live mail so had to put it back if I wanted to use email not web mail.Above tells you where I am at as far as email is concerned.Now my problem.I have setup several groups of email messages that I send messages to, as well as to just one person. Suddenly in the last month or so I have been getting reports of some addressees are getting as many as 50 of the same message, orther not. Sometimes they are sent to one of the groups some are not, some are forwards. I have communicated with Cox, my high speed interent access, they tell me use only web mail not Windows Live Mail. I really do not like web mail, but will start using it if I have to. I ALLWAYS send BCC for a message with more than 3 addresses because of emails containing lots of addresses for capturing the addresses for spam.
