I recently did a clean install of my home machine and I am having a weird graphical error where if I move one window across the top of another it leaves a trail. Here's an image: http://i.imgur.com/Z9Li3.png, I have the most recent nVidia drivers installed and nothing new is installed on my machine than before the reload (and I never had this issue before). I have two monitors and it happens on both so I'm sure it isn't a hardware issue (the card and my main monitor are also both less than 6 months old) I've also noticed a ripple when scrolling down on web pages which I believe is related.

I recently lost my desktop (it died) I found an old but still usable one and installed win 7 from my original installation cd. (i purchased a cd with 3 licenses). I tried the phone activation only to be told i had excedded my number of licenses. I assumed that when my old pc died i could install on a new machine, (maybe not). Who can I contact at MS to explain that one of my 3 installs is now DEAD and I'm not trying to steal a 4th install?

It doesn't have a recovery partition so I've burned the ISO and planned to use the Key on the OEM sticker on the bottom of the machine. However, when attempting to boot from the DVD I burned (got the ISO file from mydigitallife.info) the screen shows me the "Windows is loading files" then immediately gives me the following error.Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error...
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred
I ran chkdisk /f with no bad sectors...I am at a loss here? I've also run AVG's Rescue CD to second check my guess that the hard disk is fine. I am not 100% sure that the CD drive is perfect, but also haven't had any issues running anything from the CD while in Windows either that I know of?

i had to reinstall my windows 7 64x dell inspiron 1750 laptop using my windws 7 home premium disc that came with my laptop when i bought it because it was in a constant starup repair loop. the disc worked find until i got to the part where it said "expanding windows files." it was stuck at 0% after a whilr and then a message popped up that said error code:0x8007045D. during the time when it was expanding windows files i could hear my disc running, but after a while it stops.when i tried running the disc again, the error code message didn't pop up, but the expanding windows files was stuck at 0% forever. when i tried turning on my computer without using the disc, it goes directly from the "finding window files" screen to startup repair. it tells me that it can't fix the problem and i click on a link that tells me that the problem is that my boot configuration is corrupt. i have also ried cleaning my disc and it doesn't look like there's any stratches on it.

Why is this. Like 10 minutes plus and it still says recycling. It should only take a second. Is it bad to let it continue at its own pace or should I restart the PC and try it again?

A couple of my programs/games would not launch giving me a similiar error. After some research I believed it was a problem with .NET, well now I can't reinstall it. I've tried numerous things that have been mentioned on this forum. I'm going to copy and paste the error log that Framework gives me.[CODE]

I recently upgraded my OS in order to solve registry issues retaining to the corrupted windows installer. When I try to enable the Microsoft SE, it would not work. I went into the control panel (Add/remove programs) and removed it. So when i try to reinstall Microsoft SE, I am getting weird error (0x8004ff82). I am not too familiar with the regedit, but I think the problem is a registry file.... I have already tried MicrosoftFixit, and it did not work.

About a month ago when turing on the system, would come up with a nfts error, would automatically try scan disk, which failed saying no room on computer even though there was 350gb free. Would then reboot to windows 7 and operated fine. Over time the reboot process was taking longer and longer. Now it usually takes hours (up to 4 or more) for it to load up Windows 7, if at all. Once loaded system works fine. Often it does not. And just turns itself off. Attempted to do system repair, which failed. Tried to reload windows 7, but all i have is an upgrade disk and says everything up to date.

Destination Path Too Long when Copying I copied my data folders/files from my winXP C-drive to my external hard-drive & then to my new win7 C-drive. After about 20-25 minutes of copying (with 5 seconds remaining) ... I got the attached message ... (2 found) ... I clicked Skip ... same message again (1 found) ... I clicked Skip ... same message again (0 found) ... I clicked Skip. "You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path." I compared the "JAR Control Panel Buttons" source & destination folders & found 3 files that were not copied. Not knowing how much too long the paths were, I guessed & they copied OK with shortened names.

Different to most peoples boot up problems, mine problem is that it takes about two minutes to show the boot up animation after the HP logo. All it shows is a black screen with a little flashing white line for about two minutes.

I just purchased a HP Envy 14 with Windows 7 preloaded. The boot time is incredibly long from start to finish. Several minutes at the windows flag, a while on a black screen before the login screen and then I have to wait another 2-3 minutes after I login before I can smoothly use the laptop. I have updated the system and installed the drivers for my mouse. I have installed League of Legends, GOM player, AIMP, AIM, Google Chrome, Open Office, Steam, and Starcraft 2. Does anyone know whats wrong? I read somewhere that the harddrive might not be getting enough power quickly enough to boot due to a faulty connection.

I am running IE 8 , latest as of 10 Sept 11, Windows 7 Ultimate on an Intel Quad Core (9300), 8 GB RAM, 1.5 TB Drive. When I hit "Add to Favorite" on IE to book mark a link, it takes 20-40 seconds until I am prompted to save the link some 30-40 seconds later. Needless to say, this is very annoying. I tried the following troubleshooting to isolate the problem:
1- Installed IE 9 - Same Issue
2. I removed all my existing favorite links/folders from the "Favorites folder" under C/ Users) - thninking that the number of existing links/folders may be the cause - Same Issue
3. I uninstalled IE 9 and defaulted to IE 8 - Same Issue
4. I uninstalled IE 8 - i.e. no IE browser left in my OS since IE 7 can not run on Win 7- then reinstalled IE 9 - Same Issue
5. I tried firefox, it works like a charm.
I restored to earlier versions of windows backups but it did not help. I suspect that this issue has been there for a while - may be some file or registry entry is corrupted.

For the last 2 days i have been trying to diagnose why my PC is taking anything between 1min 30sec and 3min to shutdown.I found that if i booted into my desktop (fully loaded) then shut down, my shutdown time is between 9 and 12 seconds! However if i boot into desktop then use any program or game, then i had the long shutdown time.Event log showed the ShutdownKernelTime to be between 120000 and 150000 when i had the long shutdowns. For your info, for testing purposes the programs i used are firefox 10.0 (opening 3 websites) and Windows Live Mail. IF for any reason i got a successful quick shutdown after running these i then ran GTA IV for 5min then tried a shutdown. So far i have tried: Disabling all services and startup entries in msconfig. Got same results as above Various combinations of service and startup entries in msconfig. Same result as above Booting into safe mode running same test. I get a successful quick shutdown. Checked the registry for any page file clearing at shutdown. Complete disk defrag Advanced System Care 5 Scan and repair Updating any drivers if update available Running a shutdown trace using Windows SDK. This however works by restarting the PC then running the trace so imitates me booting in to desktop and shutdown again which works fine so as expected the trace shows everything working as it should. I tried adding firefox and Windows live mail to startup folder hoping just the simple opening of these programs would cause whatever happens to give me a long shutdown time. It seems though like i need to open the 3 websites to create the issue however the only time to do this would be the delayed shutdown stage which im advised you shouldn't touch anything at this stage? could anyone advise on this? Hopefully one of you's out there with a bit more knowledge can point me in a new direction that puts me closer to solving this.I used to have Ntune (Nvidia) for GPU Fan control and MSI Afterburner for GPU Overlocking, however after trying one after the other enabled/disabled etc i found i got successful quick shutdowns but long shutdown then returned after playing GTA IV. I uninstalled MSI Afterburner and now only use Ntune for both GPU Overcloking and Fan Control. Current Startup's enabled:Realtek HD Audio Manager RocketDock NVIDIA Ntune Avast Antivirus Quote Originally Posted by whs In regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl Double click on WaitToKillServiceTimeout and set it to 2000 - that is milliseconds. I have a problem with my computer that I cannot fix, I recently bought the AverTV Capture HD and plugged it into 1 of my free pci-express slots. Now my computer takes like 20 extra seconds to boot to desktop, I replaced the card to another PCI-Express slot but the problem persists, when I remove the card it boots like before, with no IDLE.My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-x58-UD5, latest Bios, latest drivers etc...I don't know if it's the card or maybe the motherboard or just Windows 7.This is a Winbootinfo screen to show you the IDLE time between the bios screen-Windows 7 booting screen and @desktop.
