View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm browsing local/network drives in Windows 7, the Search box (upper right in any Explorer window) only offers two filters "Date Modified" and "Size".
The "Add a Search Filter" is grayed out.
Here's some info on search filters that are available to be added-- but I haven''t figured out how to add them yet:
Date Created: Searches according to when the file was created. You can select the date (or a range of dates) from a mini-calendar that appears.
Kind: Search for files of a specific type as selected from the drop-down list that appears when you click the Kind option.
Type: Searches based on certain file types by extension, such as .pdf, .jpg, or .docx.
Name: Searches by filename. You can enter all or part of the filename in the search text box after the Name filter.
Tags: This filter lets you search for a file by the tags assigned to it. Enter one or more tags after the Tags filter in the Search text box.
Authors: Search for file by a particular author. Enter an author name after the Authors filter in the Search text box or select the name from the drop-down list that appears. (This filter is called Artists when searching audio files.)
My ISP lmits my download to almost nothing, except for three hours in the early morning. I have a monitor in my notification area that tells how many MB I have left (this is from the ISP), and during the day with nothing running my MB slowly drops. I installed NetBalancer, to see where all the download was going, and all I can find downloading is Windows Update, and System Resources. At least for the most part that is.So my question is, Is there any way to limit Windows Update, and other Windows Systems to downloading only during those three hours? I have Windows Update setting set to only Install at 4:00am. But it still downloads during the day. So is there any thing I can do, a reg edit, or something?

I have tried several different drivers.Tweak force, Nivida Beta and current released, plus an older one that is in Win 7. Just cant get it to go up. I switch back to XP(on separate drive) and its back to the high frame rate.
I am looking for several things. 1st what is causing the problem, Can I correct with what I have? If I need to replace parts, what should I replace and with what. I think my video card is ok. I use the system for WOW, Unreal Tourment 3, and the age of Empire series. Plus Digi Photography. I mainly play WOW. I like Nivida and AMD.
I have read it could be driver related or not enough CPU power and mem. WOW is a hog on the resources I am told.

I recently bought a new Samsung 23" LED monitor and connected it using HDMI. Just now when I was trying to play a video file in Windows media player, only the first frame is displayed. If I keep resizing the window, the video plays normally and stops when I let go of the mouse. This issue happens with Media Player classic too. Strangely, Media Center has no issues playing whatever I throw at it and VLC is not affected at all. In some applications such as crysis, I get upwards of 4000 fps in the intro screens, causing my graphics card to sound like its a dying rat. I enter the same keyword (one of the words contained within the title of a completed task) in the Outlook Task search box as I do the Windows 7 orb 'search programs and files.' The Windows 7 search returns the correct search result (along with a lot other results having the same keyword) practically immediately whereas Outlook is still searching...and searching.
If I have index options set to include the C: drive and Outlook, what's going on with Outlook?
for about 2 months now, every time my laptop does something involving graphics (usually playing games or watching a video on Internet, or anything involving flash), i'll notice that my cpu usage spikes to 100%, which causes slowdown, i.e.: gameplay/videos will be slow and choppy, sometimes freezing for a few seconds to a few minutes before resuming. it usually does this in intervals, i'll have a few seconds of normal gameplay/video and then the freezing. considering that this also happens when i play offline games, i'm suspected that it's my graphics card that is the culprit.for reference, i'm using an ati radeon hd 3200 graphics display adapter on my laptop. i've tried updating the driver not too long ago, which ended up installing the ati ccc, but the problem still persists. i haven't had this before and the games/videos used to work fine.looking in the task manager, i see that its the application that i'm running that's hogging the cpu (either firefox for Internet/flash or even stuff like tf2 and maplestory).

I have an MP4 video that I want to be converted to PNG images (every single frame).I've downloaded a number of programs that claim to do this but not exactly how I want. One program I tried was Avidemux, which is almost what I wanted, but it only outputs to JPG.I tried virtualdub but the file won't open in it.

I'm afraid to continue the upgrade because I don't know what's going to happen or how it's going to affect the programs and devices. Should I just go ahead and uninstall everything listed in the second message? And how do I update the driver for the Keyboard Filter? I don't really know what I'm doing.
Is there any way to replace the Desktop Search with the 'Ole Dog ( Search Companion) You can not find all the related files with Desktop search like you could with Search Companion.

It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware.
View 1 Replies View Relatedso I switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 last week and I've been getting random frame rate drops..I got pretty good frame rates in Windows XP and didn't get any choke at all..in Windows 7 my frame rates are around 50-60 (which is fine) but they randomly and frequently drop to like 10-15 fps for 2-3 seconds. It gets annoying after a while obviously.
