Problem With Built-in Codecs
does anyone know how to disable the built-in codecs of windows 7 professional x64 ? (i want to disable the built-in codecs because it doesn't let other codecs to decode videos )

I use to have K-lite Mega Codec Pack installed in my other laptop (Win Vista x86), and watched everything on Media Player Classic, but some files weren't syncronized with subtitles so i opened with BSPlayer to sync them manually. Now in this laptop i went to search for K-lite for 64-bit OS, and i got these: but when install finished it had no MPC and it seemed to me to have less codecs. I'm in a Multimedia Degree and i use Adobe Premiere CS3/4 (still dont know what to install but probably the new one). Also i've read here some problems Launching the game Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion, could be due to the lack of codecs. So i think you get all i need Codecs for Windows 7 x64 with MPC and able to work along with BSPlayer and Adobe Premiere CS3/4 and Quicktime Pro btw, and also that might help with games. Btw, i can't tell what Build is my version of Windows 7, i just can say it's Windows 7 Home Premium (can you tell me how to know the build?).

Video Codecs
I've noticed that some video files I play don't have sound when playing through Windows Media Player, and some do. Even though they appear to be the exact same file, .avi, with all the same settings. Just wondering if anyone had a similar issue to this, and if they had found a fix or the proper codecs to download.

Should I Use Codecs Or VLC ?
I can imagine there are litterly hundred of people asking this same question. So today I ask you Video Gurus to tell me and us. What is the best route to go when installing a new PC window 7 Codecs, Which can mess up your PC but give you precision control over image quality. Or VLC which has all the codecs built into it that will allow you to play any video format you need right out of the box? Im always wondering and Ive used both myself However I'm working on the "perfect" build and I do not want to install un-needed or troublesome applications. I love the VLC ease of use, however I hate the player. No matter what I watch when I jump ahead I get tons of pixelations for 10-15 seconds afterwards. Im not a dig deep into the guts guy either so installing Codecs and having to config every aspect of these when I have no idea what all the setting really means isn't fun either. So lets hear what the "pros" here have to say on this question! If There is another application besides VLC please feel free to add it to the discussion.

No Codecs Works
I'm having some trouble with media center, and actually also other video players.. I've been trying for some time to get media center running, but I keep having trouble with the codecs. I'm running win 7 build 7100. First I installed ffdshow and used the MCDU to get media center to use ffdshow, and it worked. But then suddenly out of nothing about a week ago it didn't work anymore. When I tried to play a video-file I got the decoder error from media center telling me th-at the codec isn't working or isn't installed. It's all types of video files, avi, video_TS and so on. I then tried to uninstall ffdshow and install it again, but it didn't help. I then tried to uninstall again and install a different codec-pack. Didn't help. I have tried to install many different codec-packs but nothing helps. Then I tried to play the video files using other media players. When playing video files in VLC the picture is kind of pixellated, doesn't look good at all (it's like watching the picture of Ripley's daughter as an old woman in Aliens if you remember). I can't find a solution to this problem as I don't know what is wrong.

Right Codecs For All Types
using Windows 7 64bit i've installed shark007 + x64 componenets after that tryied cccp and also tried k-lite, but none of them played all my video files (mp4,mkv ther most) with bsplayer vlc ,media player.... very frustrated , i thinking i am doing something wrong..

Codecs - .avi Files
I have installed Windows 7 x64 on my HP Pavilion dv6700 with no problems. Windows 7 rocks. The only problem that I have with the big 7 (besides IE8 taking ages to open Tabs), is that Windows Media Player doesn't play some files (.avi files). I thought Windows 7 was supposed to have the DivX and XviD codecs installed. I thought I didn't have to install any more codecs. I really like WMP and I like using it. Using it in Vista was a blast, and was able to play any video file out there (after installing a Vista Codec Pack). Is there a way to do this for Windows 7? Is there a codec pack out there that fixes Windows Media Player's capabilities (I have tried installing the Vista codec pack, but no luck)? Or is it just a problem of the 64 bit version. Should I install the 32bit version? Is anyone with a 32bit version experiencing these problems? I have tried playing these files in both the 32bit WMP and 64bit WMP but they don't work.

How To Reinstall Default Codecs ?
Recently, well the other day I decided I would re-install Oblivion and after re-install something went haywire and now music will not play in Oblivion. Well, it might, but if I leave music on it will freeze my mouse and keyboard 5 minutes into loading a game each and every time, leading the game to be unplayable. A little background in case you were wondering why I would want to reset Win7 codecs. Well, I have looked all over google and have not seen any way to un-install all codecs and re-install default codecs that were installed with windows 7. This is all i'm trying to do. P.S. - if WMP12 is uninstalled, would that remove the codecs with it? and would re-installing WMP12 add the codecs back, or do the codecs come with the Windows 7 install itself.

Cannot Install Codecs V1.2.6 Because Of Insufficient Privileges
i am the only user in this computer and i am using a manager account and i tried to take ownership on any folder and any file in the computer but still i have this sort of problems everynow and then like in the codecs pack Win 7 codecs v1.2.6 even when i right click and choose open as administrator it doesn't help.. i still get 1303 error i try checking the folder that is causing the problem in progremdata folder but no luck something is really must be done to fix all those priviliges problems windows 7 have it worse then in windows xp.:)how can i fix this?

Is There A Complete List Of Supported Codecs ?
I'm doing some research into which file formats and A/V codecs to use for my movie library. I started out with VIDEO_TS folders for my movies but I'm having some file access time/network issues and I want to access my movies from other devices so I'm considering switching formats. The problem is I can't really find a "codec compatibility guide" for Windows 7. That is, which containers/codecs ship with Windows 7 out of the box? For example, I know that it supports the MP4 container, H.264 video, and AAC sound out of the box. That's new from Vista. What else does it support? (I looked at the "supported formats" page but that doesn't really get specific enough.) Again, looking for a list of what's supported out of the box . I'm sure I can do some registry hacks and additions of extra codec packs and all that, but I'm looking for as much "out of the box" as possible.

Choose What Codecs To Use For Video Playback
I'm having a major issue with video codecs, I can't make Win7 accept the fact that I want to use other video codecs than the built in ones so how the hell do I get rid of the built in ____? Crappy? Yes, they are. For instance the MPEG2 codec, sure. It can play a MPEG2 TS stream but boy it stutters. Calm scenes, no prob but once something starts to happen or I seek through the video file it starts to act up badly if it doesn't lock up and no. My computer is NOT running out of steam. Playback of a 1080P MPEG2 TS has a average CPU utilization of 1%. Yep, practically zero. I suspect my graphics card is offloading the CPU and no, the card is not running out of steam either. 0-4% GPU activity when I play said 1080P video file. The built in DIVX/XVID codec seems to work, I havent noticed any severe problems with it but it's limited, in fact, it has no options whatsoever so if I want to watch a old low quality divx movie I'm forced to live with what I get, I can't start fiddeling with options and try to make it look better as the "Mpeg4s decoder DMO" that is in use has NO OPTIONS whatsoever. None! Nada! Zip! Zilch! That means, no deinterlacing, no crop, no post processing, no color control, no no no Nothing that could help me make the video look half decent. I have tried to install Ffdshow and Elecard MPEG2 decoder, as those two are the ones I want to handle all my DivX/XviD and MPEG2 files but I can't make them take precedence of the available video codecs. No matter what I try or how often I reinstall those two the built in codecs from Microsoft stays on top making my life miserable. The only thing that actually work as it should right now is CoreAVC's handling of h264 video.. ;) So. this turned into a long rant but meeh.. How do I fix this? I'm running out of ideas

Codecs Don't Work
I am trying to view videos that used to work perfectly fine when I had Vista but now they don't seem to play anymore. I tried, K-Lite, Shark007, and VLC Player but none of them seem to be able to play the video. I tried installing the "official" xvid codec since that's what I assumed the format is due to it's filename (it's a video I downloaded). I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Also how would I make sure what format my videos are?

HP PAVILION Built-in Webcam
Who knows how many people complained for following issue BUILT-IN WEBCAM WON'T WORK UNDER WINDOWS 7RC! All right, I have the same problem, but I just could't find similar thread on any forum. So, I installed win7 RC over win 7 beta (clean install not an update). Everything went smoothly, drivers all found and instaled, device manager showing no yellow exclamation triangles. Every bit of hardware is in place, everything works perfectly according to system diagnostic. BUT, webcam shows no picture. Driver is properly installed and has no collisions with other system resources. Interesting thing was, that camera was working excellent under win 7 beta. I don't know what has changed in win 7RC, but camera just won't start. If anyone has any solution or similar issue, please don't hesitate to post a reply. Oh yeah, my configuration: HP PAVILION dv 6670el Entertainment PC intel core2duo 2.0 GHz 2GB RAM 160GB HDD NVIDIA 8400gs video card HP built-in webcam (at least that's what system information says) 1.3Mpix

List Of Installed Audio And Video Codecs
Under XP, when you went to Device Manager and looked under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers", there were two entries: Audio Codecs and Video Codecs.Doing Properties on either of those would list the codecs installed.Under Windows 7, and Vista, this feature no longer exists under the Device Manager.Does it exist somewhere else?

WMP 32 Bit Codecs Stopped Working
A few days ago I installed Nvidia PureVideo, after this I tried to play music in the 32bit media player and nothing plays but if I use the 64bit version everything plays okay, would this be the codecs and is there a way to reinstall the codecs, I've looked around for codecs to download but windows 7 ultimate doesn't seem to work with any of them.

Built-in H 264 Codec Glitches
I am having troubles with the Win7 built-in H264 codec. It seems to be buggy and produces some blocky artifacts in a few of my videos (I am trying to play a MP4 container with H264/AAC). This shouldn't be too much of a problem since 3rd party codecs do render the video just fine. But... I can use these 3rd party codecs in other DirectShow players, but WMP always seems to fall back to the built-in codec, whatever I try! What can MS do to fix this situation? I don't really care whether the built-in codec gets fixed, or WMP loads 3rd party plug-in, but as it currently stands, I can't watch my video in WMP.

Why No Built-in RAW Image Support ?
There is a RAW image viewer power toy available for XP which doesn't seem to work with 7. It would be nice to not even have to go through the trouble of installing the power toys and just have them built right in to the OS. Another useful one that comes to mind is the Image Resizer. I think one of my biggest gripes with all versions of Windows is having to go and install applications that are used for common computing tasks such as viewing / editing images.

Win 7 Built In Backup System
Question about Windows 7 Ultimate's built in backup system. If I create a full system backup of my "C" drive, then do a restore, will it just install the "C" drive partition only, or will it overwrite the entire HD, thus wipping the rest of the partitions? Not looking to have the other partitions wiped! I did some looking around, but that question/issue doesn't seem to be addressed.

Media Center Issues When Playing Codecs Over Network
Media Center didn't seem to handle seeking in an Xvid encoded video. I was playing back a short movie that my friends made and when I tried to skip past the introduction, 2 minutes in, the player froze and eventually said that the video was not available. If I let it play without interference, it would play through just fine. Even seeking a small time from a network location would freeze the screen for a about 10 to 15 seconds while it retrained. This doesn't seem like it should be that difficult considering Windows Media Player had no problems with this.

i have installed windows 7 64-bit build 7000 today Firefox seems strange i don't know why also Can't install Yahoo! Toolbar because yahoo toolbar website can't recognize windows 7 also when playing any movie wit .srt subtitle files i can't see subtitles at the movie i tried K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and Shark VistaCodecs and still have the problem also where is the Quick Launch or it's replaced by Pin Icons to Taskbar can't run Gadgets also and don't know why ??!!

Built-in Support For Bluray Playback / Burning
Confirmed by Mr. Sinofsky himself, there will be no native BluRay support in Windows 7. However, BluRay Drive makers and OEMs will be able to extend Windows Media Center to support playback. What will be supported in Windows 7 though, is the burning of BRD discs. Here’s the email that was forwarded to me from our loyal reader Theodore. I did make a WHOIS check to make sure that it was Sinofsky himself. Location was indeed from: United States Redmond Microsoft Corp.
