I'm trying to install free HP printer driver on Samsung notebook with Windows 7. I've got the right link, but the software installer never completes because of "a problem" (unspecified).
View 5 RepliesI recently got a new PC, with Win 7 on it, which is new to me. I have had it for a month, and a week or two ago I noticed that the printer was no longer working - I don't use it that much, so I can't say exactly *when* it stopped working, but I *do* know that it did work when I first got the new system. This makes me suspect that a Windows Update hosed things at some point. BTW, I am running Win 7 Home Premium SP1.Anyway, the actual problem is that every time I try to print now, the printer "uh-oh" box pops up in the middle of the screen and says "Printer not reponding". If I am not trying to print but just click on the little printer icon in the lower right task bar, I get the same box and the same msg. I remember having this problem periodically with the Toshiba laptop (with Windows Vista) that I had before I got this hot new system, but I could usually power-cycle the printer and get it to come back online and print. And it certainly was not totally dead as it now is with the new Win 7 system.I have researched this a good deal on the net. I have re-started the Print Spooler Service, ran the Hardware Troubleshooter (which didn't help because it couldn't find a printer). This printer, a Kodak 5100 All-in-One, was set as default printer. The Kodak site told me to run the "Kodak Printer Setup Utility", which I did. It failed to find the printer...so much for that. Next, I un-installed all the Kodak software, then downloaded the latest version, with drivers, all of which was newer than what I had. When it was done installing the software, it went thru the printer detection sequence, and failed to find the printer just like its older version had.
I read in several places that I should delete the printer and re-add it, so I tried this. I was unable to re-add the printer, though, because the Kodak software can't find it - perhaps deleting it was not the wisest thing to do...oh well. I am dead in the water now because Windows is supposed to automaticcally detect a USB printer when it is connected (isn't it ?), and it doesn't find mine. BTW, the printer itself works...I just used it earlier tonight as a phot-copier. I have also tried several different USB ports, both front and back of the system case (no hubs or extenders here). I had finally decided that the cable was the only thing I could think of that was left, since the printer itself does actually work. Then it occurred to me to dig out the cheap Toshiba laptop that this hot new system replaced and try it with the printer...after all, it worked before. So I connected it back up to the Toshiba laptop, and it won't work on it, either, now.I decided that this was incontrovertible evidence that the printer cable was the culprit, so I bought a new one, connected it, and.....nothing. Still won't detect the printer with the new cable attached!!Now I'm completely bumfuzzled. I am a veteran problem solver and trouble-shooter. I remember in my old programming days, running a hardware debugger and tracing DOS interrupts through the OS code, and now I can't figure out what's wrong with a printer? One last pearl of information that only adds to the craziness: I noticed when booting the new system that the AMI BIOS message says "USB devices found: 1 keyboard, 2 mice, and 3 hubs". I thought the "2 mice" was kind of strange, so I went into Device Manager, where I found two entries under "Mice and other pointing devices"! Both are titled "HID-compliant mouse" and are identical. If I delete one, my mouse stops working. If I delete the other, mouse still works, but next time I reboot, I have two mouses in Device Manager again. I thought this might be the key, that perhaps my BIOS was detecting the USB printer as a 2nd mouse. This is one reason I went back to the Toshiba laptop...it used to work, and *should* still work, esp. in the light of my "phantom mouse" theory, but it doesn't, and so I have hit the proverbial brick wall.
What does printer offline mean? My printer was working and now says print is offline....

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe software on the CD which came with my HP 2605dn runs fine under WinXP. It includes both the PCL6 driver for the printer as well as a Java-based utility named "HP Toolbox" that allows for communication with the printer when attached via USB.However since the printer itself is supported "native" by Windows 7, the drivers for the printer get installed properly when Windows 7 is installed (printer should be ON at install, rather than OFF as is usually the case when installing drivers for a USB device after-the-fact, e.g. from the software CD under WinXP).But the software CD actually is not usable under Windows 7, which means the HP Toolbox utility that would normally also be installed cannot be installed! This is a problem.
When the printer is attached via network, it can be communicated with directly (e.g. 102.168.1.102) from a browser. This is good enough to get lots of device status information.However the browser interface does not include some functions provided by HP Toolbox, such as "Troubleshooting" which includes running the "cleaning page" function to try and get rid of toner from the paper/ribbon path. The black cartridge has a built-in "toner cleaner" that should normally be used when changing the black cartridge, but there's also a separate process to clean the ribbon... and this comes from HP Toolbox.So... I've tried to find an acceptable place to find a Windows 7-installable version of HP toolbox. Unsuccessful. HP site seems to be a never-ending series of dead-ends, wrong printer, etcWorthless.
I've also tried to reach HP by phone all day today, but I've been in the hold queue forever (perhaps they're closed for MLK Day, so I'll try them tomorrow).But does anybody out there already have a solution to this? Is there some way I can manually install HP Toolbox from my existing software CD... or is that just impossible? If not, is there some web location where HP has made a downloadable version of a Windows 7-compatible installer file?
I'm have big problems with the .msi installer. Every time i try to download and .msi package it either says verify that the file exists or that it doesn't work.

For nearly half of the .exe files I attempt to open, I get this stupid "---.exe has stopped working" (where --- represents the name of the file). The files I'm trying to open are not video game files, but rather program files.I am currently working on a 64-bit system. I have only had this machine for 2.5 weeks.

This morning I found six extra windows open, which looked like this: [code] which looks like six randomly generated letters for the application name. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a home network (Workgroup) that includes an XP-Pro Desktop (PC1), an XP-Pro laptop (PC2), an XP-Home Netbook (PC3), a MAC Leopard laptop (MAC), and Win 7-Pro Desktop (PC4). The network also includes a NAS, a TCP-IP connected printer and a MAC-attached printer.
I am using a Linksys WRT54GS router connected to a cable modem to connect the PC4, the MAC, the NAS, a Viewsonic VS10407 Wireless Access Point, and a Netgear RP614 ver4 router configured as a switch access point.
The PC1 and the TCP-IP printer are hard-wired to the switch access point, and PC2 and PC3 are connected via WIFI.
I had all of the computers save the netbook on a Workgroup and all computers could be seen from all except the MAC. I was able to print on either printer from every machine.
I then added several applications including Adobe Acrobat Standard, ScanSnap Manager, ScanSnap Organizer, MS Office Pro 2007, Thunderbird Mail, etc. and I added any number of Windows updates, Norton Internet Security updates, etc.
I also installed a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Document scanner and I setup the XP-Home Netbook.
Somewhere along the way my Workgroup network went astray. I can still print on both printers from each computer but I cannot see the various computers and I get an error message:
"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
I have not been able to determine what went wrong and I am hoping to get some expert assistance here.

After disabling all startups and services other than MS, succeeded in getting the drivers installed. Now I'm trying to clean the crap out of the computer, one of which is "Amazon Links". Will not uninstall from EITHER Programs and Features or Revo Uninstaller. Get the message that is the title of this post. 've seen many threads on the Web about this, but none that had a real answer. I would ordinarily try safe mode, but cannot find any folder with Amazon Links in it, so don't know where it is.

So, for example, in Outlook where I can normally click a link within an email to go to the web page, I now can't (affecting all emails). I'm hoping fr soem input on a recent issue that I've started to encounter where Windows 7 'freezes' and my only option is a 'hard reset' via held power button and restart.This has only started happening in the last week or so, and seems to only (and nearly always) happen after I've shut down a game (one of several) running via Steam.The games themselves will work fine, but after I come back out to desktop/Steam then Windows will stop to respond after a couple of instructions. Ctrl-Alt-Delete will fail to bring up the Task Manager screen etc.

My network admin tried to reset my password and even created a new user for me. Inexplicably a new problem arose. Clicking icons on the desktop or the start menu stopped working. I found that opening the file location and clicking the .exe did work.The problem remained when logging in as the local administrator.I found that the problem occurs on all .LNK files.System Restore to a month ago had no effect. Am I mistaken in believing that this proves that the problem isn't in the registry? I did a full disk virus check using the ESET a/v software on the computer as well as with MalwareBytes. No effect.
View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently I began having issues with my alt keys in games. I use a razer lycosa keyboard, as well as an n52te gamepad. Using a gamepad as my main source of imput during gameplay, the alt key is extremely useful as it allows me to have a whole additional set of keybinds with the limited amount of keys the gamepad has in comparison to the keyboard.A few weeks back I was gaming and noticed that if i was holding alt, and trying to use my movement keys (wsad is how I have the gamepad setup) the a, s, and d keys would not move my character on the gamepad or keyboard. If I just press a, s, or d on the gamepad or the keyboard without holding alt, they all work properly. Strangely, alt + W works fine and will move my character forward, and it seems to be only the a, s, and d keys being affected..My first thought was that maybe somehow i had bound something to Alt + a, s, or d ingame so i made sure nothing was bound to those keys. On a side note, the easiest way to do this generally besides checking through manually would be to just bind said keys, and then change that bind to something else. On the keybind screen in games, Alt + a, s, or d would have no effect, as if it hadnt been pressed, and would still be awaiting imput as to what key to bind.
I am running my games as administrator on a windows 7 x64 system, nothing running besides the game client. Multiple virus scans on the machine to make sure malware isnt the cause. Razer lycosa drivers installed and up to date from razer's website, same with the n52te, and i cant think of anything installed recently within the time that the problem suddenly started occurring.Although I initially noticed this problem appearing in games, it is also within windows itself. I guess theres a chance the gamepad/keyboard are going bad...but i had this problem occur a few months back and it seemed to magically fix itself, so i never had to persue it any further. Also the fact that they keys by themselves work properly on the keyboard and pad, including alt, but that when used in combination its as if theyre not even being pressed.
Both USB ports at my laptop (Toshiba Satellite C650, Windows 7 home premium, SP1, x64) stopped working after plugging in and unplugging several Garmin Forerunner 305 watches in a row. Everything looks all right in the device manage (no exclamations marks). I have reinstalled everything that has something to do with USB in the device manager, several times. Updated BIOS and used Windows update to get all the latest drivers and fixes.I have taken out the battery and let the computer "rest" for several hours without any power supply.I have tried to do some changes in registry key according to these instructions: USB ports suddenly stopped working in Windows 7 RC1 - Microsoft Answers (I managed to delete Lowerfilters).And of course I have tried with different USB-sticks, mouses, external hard drive etc. There is no power in the ports. When I plug in my Garmin Watch it does not charge.I installed and tried two registry cleaners (TweakNow RegCleaner 2011 and Glary utilities). After using them I got some hope back when I got a bit of reaction from one of the ports. A few times after plugging in something it started to install the driver but stopped immediately - telling me that the driver cannot be installed because the device is not plugged in (while it is).
I consider to do system restore to factory settings but before that I have to copy and save everything which is a bit complicated since non of the ports is working. If the restore to factory settings does not work, then I believe there is a problem with the hardware and I have to get the motherboard replaced.
got a tosh c650 laptop and just tried putting a cruser blade 16gb stick into one of its 2 usb ports.Now both ports dont do anything .Tried deleting all drivere and re installing (inc safe mode) but no joy...Have I damaged the MB?
