Canon Network Printer Stopped Working On Windows 7?
Feb 23, 2012
Canon Mx850 networked printer has been working fine on Win7 64 and WinXP. Today after printing several docs I suddenly cannot print from Win7. I can get to printer status page from IE9 with no trouble so that IP address is correct. I can scan from the device on Win7 using Twain. I can print fine from WinXP.

I have a canon mp480 and I'm trying to set up the printer so I can print wireless like I had on my old vista op system but it seems canon mp480 does not support win 7. Does anyone know where I can get a driver for this to rectify this problem.
Look forward to your response.

in all builds up to and including 7077 my Canon MX700 network printer was recognized and worked like a charm, including the scanner etc.
Now on a clean install of the RC (build 7100) the Canon network scanning utility comes up with a message saying it has known problems and to contact Canon.
I have tried it in all compatibility modes, administrator, the latest Vista drivers etc from Canon. I did manage to get it installed and it can see the printer but it will not allocate a port for it. When I try to allocate the port it will not work.
Canon do not have any way to contact them other than by phone (good one Canon) and I really have not had the time to sit on the end of a phone wating for them to tell me Windows 7 is not supported.
Oh...this is in x32 and x64 I have tried both but back on x32 for the moment.
I might try the long way....by reinstalling 7077 and then upgrading to 7100 but that is a bit extreme.
Anyone else had similar problems and solved them or do I just have to wait patiently for Canon?

I have a canon printer (couple years old) and a Brothers printers connected to a computer with Vista 32bit. I just purchased a laptop that has windows 7 64bit. I can connect via wireless network to my Vista computer just fine. I was able to connect to and install the brother printer but when I try to install the canon printer I get a message something like this "Cant find INI file, will look in windows update" after a while it comes back and says It can find INI file. Probably it is because my Vista is 32 bit and my laptop Windows 7 64bit. But I did not have this problem with my brother printer. How do I install the canon printer?

I recently got a new PC, with Win 7 on it, which is new to me. I have had it for a month, and a week or two ago I noticed that the printer was no longer working - I don't use it that much, so I can't say exactly *when* it stopped working, but I *do* know that it did work when I first got the new system. This makes me suspect that a Windows Update hosed things at some point. BTW, I am running Win 7 Home Premium SP1.Anyway, the actual problem is that every time I try to print now, the printer "uh-oh" box pops up in the middle of the screen and says "Printer not reponding". If I am not trying to print but just click on the little printer icon in the lower right task bar, I get the same box and the same msg. I remember having this problem periodically with the Toshiba laptop (with Windows Vista) that I had before I got this hot new system, but I could usually power-cycle the printer and get it to come back online and print. And it certainly was not totally dead as it now is with the new Win 7 system.I have researched this a good deal on the net. I have re-started the Print Spooler Service, ran the Hardware Troubleshooter (which didn't help because it couldn't find a printer). This printer, a Kodak 5100 All-in-One, was set as default printer. The Kodak site told me to run the "Kodak Printer Setup Utility", which I did. It failed to find the printer...so much for that. Next, I un-installed all the Kodak software, then downloaded the latest version, with drivers, all of which was newer than what I had. When it was done installing the software, it went thru the printer detection sequence, and failed to find the printer just like its older version had.
I read in several places that I should delete the printer and re-add it, so I tried this. I was unable to re-add the printer, though, because the Kodak software can't find it - perhaps deleting it was not the wisest thing to do...oh well. I am dead in the water now because Windows is supposed to automaticcally detect a USB printer when it is connected (isn't it ?), and it doesn't find mine. BTW, the printer itself works...I just used it earlier tonight as a phot-copier. I have also tried several different USB ports, both front and back of the system case (no hubs or extenders here). I had finally decided that the cable was the only thing I could think of that was left, since the printer itself does actually work. Then it occurred to me to dig out the cheap Toshiba laptop that this hot new system replaced and try it with the printer...after all, it worked before. So I connected it back up to the Toshiba laptop, and it won't work on it, either, now.I decided that this was incontrovertible evidence that the printer cable was the culprit, so I bought a new one, connected it, and.....nothing. Still won't detect the printer with the new cable attached!!Now I'm completely bumfuzzled. I am a veteran problem solver and trouble-shooter. I remember in my old programming days, running a hardware debugger and tracing DOS interrupts through the OS code, and now I can't figure out what's wrong with a printer? One last pearl of information that only adds to the craziness: I noticed when booting the new system that the AMI BIOS message says "USB devices found: 1 keyboard, 2 mice, and 3 hubs". I thought the "2 mice" was kind of strange, so I went into Device Manager, where I found two entries under "Mice and other pointing devices"! Both are titled "HID-compliant mouse" and are identical. If I delete one, my mouse stops working. If I delete the other, mouse still works, but next time I reboot, I have two mouses in Device Manager again. I thought this might be the key, that perhaps my BIOS was detecting the USB printer as a 2nd mouse. This is one reason I went back to the Toshiba laptop...it used to work, and *should* still work, esp. in the light of my "phantom mouse" theory, but it doesn't, and so I have hit the proverbial brick wall.

I have a home network (Workgroup) that includes an XP-Pro Desktop (PC1), an XP-Pro laptop (PC2), an XP-Home Netbook (PC3), a MAC Leopard laptop (MAC), and Win 7-Pro Desktop (PC4). The network also includes a NAS, a TCP-IP connected printer and a MAC-attached printer.
I am using a Linksys WRT54GS router connected to a cable modem to connect the PC4, the MAC, the NAS, a Viewsonic VS10407 Wireless Access Point, and a Netgear RP614 ver4 router configured as a switch access point.
The PC1 and the TCP-IP printer are hard-wired to the switch access point, and PC2 and PC3 are connected via WIFI.
I had all of the computers save the netbook on a Workgroup and all computers could be seen from all except the MAC. I was able to print on either printer from every machine.
I then added several applications including Adobe Acrobat Standard, ScanSnap Manager, ScanSnap Organizer, MS Office Pro 2007, Thunderbird Mail, etc. and I added any number of Windows updates, Norton Internet Security updates, etc.
I also installed a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Document scanner and I setup the XP-Home Netbook.
Somewhere along the way my Workgroup network went astray. I can still print on both printers from each computer but I cannot see the various computers and I get an error message:
"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
I have not been able to determine what went wrong and I am hoping to get some expert assistance here.

I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit at work. I installed it behind a nat:ed machine (internal IP), so nothing special about that one. I chose home network as the network type as I would be using the computer at home from now on.
However to my surprise, when I got home the email had stopped working. Everything else is working just fine. The problem is with thunder-bird (or other email programs) and imap. If I try to check my new emails at home I just receive a message that connection to imap.xxx.xx.xx has timed out. This was working just fine when the computer was at work.
Home network is similar, broadband connection, connected to Buffalo WHR-G54S (NAT, DHCP). I've checked about everything and I have no clue what to do next. It doesn't matter if I turn the windows firewall completely off, I still get the same results (time out).
HOWEVER, I discovered a new thing. If I'm connected via VPN to my work network, I can check my email from home. Weird stuff, where the hell has windows stored something about my work connection here at home?

I was on my laptop on Friday and the internet would connect when I turned on my laptop. So I just thought I needed to retype the security key. Nope. So after that I reboted my router. (Sorry for my horrible spelling). That didn't work either. So I came here and saw a number of people had the same problem. I tried every thing pluging my laptop into the router, netsh winsock reset, disable and enable the network.

3 days ago, access through my laptop on my home network to my main pc suddenly stopped working. i installed and changed nothing, as a result i wiped both the laptop and pc and reinstalled Win 7 Enterprise and Win 7 Ultimate respectively and i am still getting the " you do not have permission to access ---" i have taken ownershp, turned off password enabled sharing etc to fix this and nothing has worked. the only clue i have is that it may actually be an issue with the shared drive (storage) as viewing the shared drive over the network, the properties of the drive show up as 0 bytes/files.

So I have wireless internet in my house through an xfinity cable/internet modem. While I was trying to set up my new printer on the wireless network, my wireless stopped working. My computer is showing it has a full signal from my wireless network, however it unable to connect. Also, if I connect my computer via ethernet cable the internet works without a problem. Also, my 3 other roommates can no longer connect to the wireless and nothing was done with their computers. I've tried unplugging the modem and plugging it back in after 30 seconds as recommended, but nothing changed.

Vista x64 natively supported a bunch of canon printers with x64 drivers. For some printers this support has gone under Windows 7 x64. Perhaps this will help some people ... .
I mounted a Vista x64 ISO-image/source, extracted the folder with the canon printer drivers and installed the Colorpass Z40e driver under Windows 7 x64. In my case I used this driver für a Canon Colorpass Z400e (Canon CLC 1100).
Extraxct :
- use 7zip
- under options check "wim"
- open the install.wim an verify your vista version (important if there is a 64bit and 32 bit version on the same DVD, in my case there was only a 64bit on the systembuilder DVD)
- choose the right folder and extract the canon printer driver folder with 7zip
windowssystem32driverstorefilerepositoryprnca001.inf_c505b61f
that is it .

I have this printer since 1995, and it still works well! (I had, though, to take it apart and clean it a few times.) It runs with WinXP and Linux, but I have not yet been able to install any of the drivers I could find in Win7.Of course, I use a parallel port adapter that works well with XP and Linux installed in other partitions on the same hard disk.
