DVD Drive Not Listed Option In Windows 7 Recovery?
Jul 8, 2012My wife's nephew picked up a virus that Avast had flagged as newgeneration.com/x/x and oldschoolzz.com/x/. I have ran Malwarebytes, SuperAnti Spyware, and quarantined trojans that were found several times (also tried it in safe mode). They keep coming back so I was going to do a system recovery with the discs that I had burned when she first got her computer.The problem is that when I get to the screen to select the dvd drive nothing is populating that box to select.

Nov 14, 2011I've just used the windows 7 utility on my hp station pc which is called "restore to factory" and this seems like went smoothly, but when I try to reboot the pc, and after the "preparing pc for first use" there's a text box popping up witch says "could not complete installation of windows, to install windows on this computer, restart the installation" and then the system reboots again, and it all starts over. I dont know how to restart the installation, and I don't have any cd/dvd or usb, tried to download the windows 7 usb/dvd download tool, but as a first step it is requested a .iso file which I don't have, and don't know where to find..

Jul 22, 2012I have a brand new Windows 7 64bit build with a clean install from an Upgrade CD and noticed in BIOS that my 1st boot device must be "Windows Boot Manager" or it asks for the CD. I only have 1 storage device (SSD) in the system and when I look under Disk Management in windows, it shows a 100MB "EFI System Partition" in addition to the primary partition (which is labeled "Boot, Crash Dump, and Primary Partition" - so it seems to have the boot files on it).
My components are:
Intel i5 3570K
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H mainboard
16GB Crucial Ballistix
Intel 520 180GB SSD
LG BD optical drive
GTX 560ti
As I only have the one non-optical storage device I did not set any partition parameters at install. I Attempted to do a Startup Repair with the windows disc to maybe try and delete the EFI partition and got the "... System Recovery Options is incompatible with the version you are trying to repair" error. Not sure what that is. If Disk Management shows a healthy partition with "Boot" listed as being contained, why can I not select the SSD as boot device #1? I can boot perfectly fine with the Windows Boot Manager listed as boot device #1 and the SSD as #2, however it's not ideal.

Oct 31, 2012I have a Hp pavilion g6, I've lost my recovery partition and I need to format my computer, when i start it, I have windows 7 on DVD but when I insert it and I click on F11 this message appears :

Mar 1, 2012I have a pc that is setup with a 60 gb SSD for Windows and a 2TB RAID 0 for the rest of the stuff. Last night I decided to partition some of the RAID to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview and see what the fuss was about.I partitioned it just fine, and everything was going smoothly, until I decided to use the windows tool to make my pendrive bootable with the Win8 ISO.In the middle of the process, I was doing something else (unistalling firefox to be more exact) and suddenly a blue screen comes up!Now my PC is stuck on the famous startup recovery loop, and I cant find a way to make it boot.

And as you can imagine nothing happened and I am still stuck with my har drive being unbootable.Now I cant help thinking that this was due to my pen drive being in the middle of that process in some way, but I have since removed it, burned it and buried in a forest, and still my problem persists.Since I havent found another solution online, I think now that the only way for me to get my PC back running is by reformatting my SSD (while hopefully keeping all my RAID files intact) and reinstalling windows. BBUUUTT!!! I have 100s of hours worth of Skyrim in that drive, and if I loose that I will seriously freak out! While I dont play it a lot anymore, when the expansions come, Dovahkin will rise again!Can I copy my files from my messed up SSD to somewhere else, before formatting it and starting a new life?

Sep 14, 2012So it all started last night. My computer was unresponsive, and after clicking "shut down" a few times to no avail, I decided to do a hard reset. I didn't think anything would happen, but afterwards it just wouldn't boot back up. It goes to the windows logo and stays there. I don't get any errors, it just hangs there. I have tried many things, so far nothing has worked.
I have tried booting into safe mode. This does not work, it gets stuck at classpnp.sys and stays there. I have tried booting from the windows 7 disc. This does not work, after it loads the disc it will hang at a black screen. I have tried switching from IDE to AHCI. This has worked, but not fixed the problem. When booting into safe mode it will crash instead of hanging.
When booting from the windows 7 disc I can almost reinstall windows, however I get the error "Windows could not format a partition on disk 1. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code 0x80070057." When attempting to restore windows to a restore point I get the error "The system image restore failed. Error details: Windows backup failed to read from the recovery volume. (0x8078002F)"
I have tried connecting the SSD to a different windows 7 computer in a attempt to reformat it, however just plugging it in would give the same problem to that computer. So, is my SSD toast? Did I mess it up beyond repair? Now system repair will not hang on IDE, but still gives me the same errors. Also, now it says missing operating system. Not sure how that happened.

When I get to disc 2 nothing happens at all. I do have an external hard drive. I was considering trying to copy the System back up discs from a different computer onto the external and then trying to do the system restore.

I've already done a couple of experiments before and from what I remember the first time I done a system recovery, the partition where my personal files where saved did not get deleted.The only thing that was "system recovered" was the partition where the OS was located. Yesterday, I again decided to do a recovery but this time, the partition where I have my files got deleted and the space it had "returned" to the OS partition. Orignally, I shrunk the OS partition so that I can have space for my partition for my personal files.If it helps, I've done a "system recovery" but saw one of it has a "mini system recovery" option. What is the difference?

Dec 1, 2011I have a Toshiba satellite laptop running Windows 7 64bit and recently it crashed. I fixed it and everything worked fine, except for the Toshiba utility at the top of the screen that allows for shortcut keys such as changing the brightness, switching wifi, etc., by pressing the fn key and a F key. The utility shows up, runs, and works fine, except the wifi option is gone. I tried using fn+F8 (the keyboard shortcut for wifi) and it didn't work.
I uninstalled the utility completely, went to Toshiba's website, entered in my computer's model and re-downloaded it. It works fine again, but still no wifi option. In my status bar, my wifi says it is off and if I go into control panel I can disable/re-enable it but it still won't work. I re-downloaded the drivers for my network card, and have tried literally everything. My laptop does not have a physical switch either, other than the keyboard shortcut that no longer works.
I contacted Toshiba and they directed me again to the same utility which they said has the wifi option, followed the steps through the phone, but the option was still not there. How to bypass this? It seems my network card was switched off and cannot be switched back on no matter what since every way of doing so is gone. Is there any application to bypass it or a wireless radio application to force the radio on?

I get the printer shared and connected. send a page to print. and the page shows up in the printer que and just sits there until i restart the computer. and have to restart each time i need to print. or till i turn off the printer and disconnect the usb and reconnect and power it back up
it prints fine from the computer the usb printer is connected too.
just wont print the shared laptops. on is vista and the other is windows seven connected to homeshare.

Mar 17, 2009I've got installed windows 7 on both pc and netbook computers. On PC it's 7057 64bit and on netbook it's 7022 32bit.
On PC I installed the HP LaserJet 1020 USB printer and it works perfectly. Then I tried to share this printer to netbook. I did check the "Share this printer", entered the name of share "hp1020" also installed additional drivers for x86 and after that hp1020 is visible on netbook but when i want to connect/install this printer on board this message appears:
"Connect to Printer"
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. The print processor does not exist"
Completely don't know what to do? Sharing is working with folders.
I found the button "rint processor" in printers properties advanced tab and ZIMFPrint (IMF) is checked there.

Jul 23, 2011I'm running just a standard Hp pavilion dv4 laptop, windows 7 64 bit and i5 core.Two days ago my computer started running at 100% or spiking between random % and 100% on idle, or when I run just one program ( it does it with word, firefox and other small programs).I opened up the task manager and checked to see if there were any background services running that were causing this, to my knowledge there aren't any. The spikes are happening when any program is ran, thus making my laptop extremely slow. It also has a few moments when it has shutdown to avoid overheating.
A list of things I've done so far to try and find/correct this problem are:Disabled all startup programs and services, gone to safe mode, used malwarebytes,spybot and AVG to detect if there was a trojan or virus causing this severe problem. A few anomalies I've discovered that lead me to believe it might be a virus were: Windows defender will not open and is currently off, same with windows security center. When I search google on firefox for specifics such as "cpu 100% or overheating and such" I'm redirected to msdb or some microsoft support website, without it bringing up the google results. It's also done this in general when i try to search any other random sites on google.It's either a very clever trojan or worm or a hardware failure.I contacted HP told them what was up. They just opted for me to send it in and have them replace the CPU and motherboard for 320$ which is kind of ridiculous without them even taking a look at it. When this problem initially occurred and I checked what processes were running at the time, there was one SVChost.exe file that was tagged as "bit-coin miner". I stopped it, but yet, I know that some people are out there hijacking other GPU with bots to mine for bitcoins. That made me thing that it could be a virus and not a hardware problem.
