I just bought a Lenovo v570 laptop with vga and hdmi output and I cannot get the hdmi to output to my tv. The tv is a vizio 47" 3d LCD and the laptop is running windows 7 home 64bit. I have tried windows graphics drivers, lenovo drivers and intel drivers. To me there is not much difference between them but who knows. The laptop will output to tv using vga and it will connect to an LG 42 inch LCD at my work using hdmi, just not to the one I have at home. I have tried everything that I can think of as far as settings go and on my tv as well. Nothing changes whatever I do. Does anyone know of any hardware compatibility between some vizio tvs and windows 7? I have seen one on the compatibility website for windows but it was not my tv. Mine is not listed. The model number for my tv is E3D470VX. Not sure what else to try. Next I guess I will call Vizio to see if they can work out the problem. Lenovo support doesn't know.

I have done some searching but to no avail. I have tried everything I can find/think of with absolutely no luck.
I have a brand new Samsung LN46B750 which I have connected to my desktop for use as an HTPC. VGA works fine, but I would much prefer to use a digital connection. SO, I have an HDMI <> DVI adapter and a monoprice HDMI cable connecting my GeForce 6800 to the HDMI/DVI port on the HDTV.
I have tried 182.5 and the latest Nvidia drivers as well as the generic Windows 7 drivers. It's all the same.
Everything works fine in the OS so long as I make it past the Windows splash screen. And unfortunately, that never happens. I believe that the problem lies in the auto adjustment of the screen when 7 starts loading. (If I boot without the TV connected, and then connect after the splash screen has loaded, everything is perfect.)
Is there any way to disable the auto detection/adjustment of the TV and just have the OS always boot into 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz. I am really tired of the blank or black screen every time I reboot. This is a terrible bug with Windows 7 or EDID and it needs to be fixed now Microsoft!

I have a Dell 1525 with the intel 965 chipset graphics. I had XP and Vista 32bit installed previously and the graphics drivers would have an extra option to change the horizontal and vertical position of the screen. But now with Seven x64 and the drivers downloaded from Update, I can't seem to fix the problem.
Whenever I have a program maximized on my hdtv a few pixels width wise will be off screen. Just enough to have the menu bars and scroll bars off screen. Are there any third party programs to fix this? I tried installing x64 Vista drivers and they would invert and wash out the colors on my screen, totally unusable.

I have Dell Optiplex GX260 system. I intalled Windows 7 Ultimate on that. The resolution of screen is fine but it is not supporting 1280 x 1024 resolution and videos are not playing properly. It was not taking audio drivers as well but when I ran the SoundMax drivers for XP in compatibility mode they were installed. But display drivers are not getting installed. I even tried the various driver from Nvidia for XP/Vista/Win 7, but none of them works.

Font was way too small in my webmail. I set resolution at 200 on my little Acer notebook with Windows 7. It made everything bigger except for the email I was trying to enlarge for easier reading.. Now I can't find a way to get back to lower resolution. Control panel is so expanded that the screen will not show needed settings.

I have installed Windows 7 beta. Previously I was using Windows Vista Ultimate. The Graphics is an AMD X1200 and is plugged in to a LG plasma screen using the hdmi interface. When the installation of windows 7 reboots the resolution automatically sets itself to 1960 x 1080 hd resolution although my screen doesn't seem to handle the resolution. It is meant to be able to take a 1080p input and scale it to 720p but in this case i get a blank screen with 'out of range' displayed.
Previously I had the resolution set to 1360 x 768 on Vista. I can plug in a second monitor which extends the desktop to it and then I can change the resolution in the settings for the TV to 1360 X 768 and the TV displays fine, but it seems to store these settings as a multi monitor profile and as soon as the second monitor is removed the single screen reverts to the 1080p resolution.
I also searched through the registry for xresolution and changed any references to 1960 X 1080 to 1360 X 768 but it still set a 1080 resolution on reboot. These settings must be stored somewhere so if anyone knows how i can change them with another monitor plugged in that would be great then i change back to my TV and it will load with a 1360 X 768 resolution.

As I was working my laptop display reset itself to 800x600. I went into resolution to reset it, the highest option is 1024x768, which is still not what it was before. It's like looking at my monitor with the wrong glasses on! t 1900x1200 would be available and that one resolution would be 'recommended' although nothing like that shows on my machine

I've upgraded from vista to 7 and I am getting no sound, I've searched, searched and tried alot of different things, I see alot of people on this forum with the same issues, but I've tried most of them. I've installed and unistalled all the different drivers from realtek, but no luck. I have realtek high definition sound but no hdmi output. In my device manager it says the sound driver is installed properly, but when I tried to test the sound it fails to test tone, I don't know if it has to deal with an audio codec. I have regular speaker that connect to a sound jack. At this point I am quite desperate. I've spent all night trying to figure this out.

I have been having the worst time with my custom built PC since it was built. I am getting random BSOD's here and there, but there does seem to be a correlation between a greater occurence when playing games. Often I can't play a high-resolution game for more than an hour or two before I crash.I heard a recommendation to try Prime95, and I get an insta-BSOD when doing the Blend test.I unfortunately am under the suspicion that this is a CPU hardware error and the CPU will have to be replaced, but I do need some form of help or confirmation before I take the next step RMA'ing it. I've built myself a PC and run into some problems with the display resolution.
OS: Win 7 x64
Graphics Card: XFX/ATI Radeon HD 4550 512MB PCI-E 2.0 VGA/HDMI/Dual-Link DV
Monitor: Hanns G HZ194
Display Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4550
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor
Current Resolution (I guess) is 1024x768 although the settings show that I have selected the recommended 1366x768. Everything is moderately big and chunky - not safe mode though. Is that the Generic Monitor is causing the problem. How I can get a sensible resolution. It's causing me some big problems as some of my applications don't fit on the screen properly and don't have effective resize/scroll bars.

I just got a huge itch to play the Age of Empires series again. I played Age of Mythology last week and worked without a hitch on Windows 7. But when trying to install my all time favorite Age of Empires 2 yesterday, ran into a lot of problems - after hours of googling, I have managed to get the game up and running without the dreaded colour bug and that too at my monitor's resolution of 1680x1050 (vanilla AoE 2 and AoE 2x are limited to 1280x1024) and I managed to get the game to play background music again (more on this below).
So I am compiling a guide so that anyone who wants to install this classic can spare themselves the agony of spending hours to find a solution. The following guide has been compiled using my Age of Empires Collector's edition which I bought some 9 years ago. I can't guarantee this guide will work 100% for other editions/compilations of the game - but I see no reason why it won't work
A. Installing Age of Empires II - The Age of Kings When I tried to install AoE 2, it would keep getting stuck at 50% when copying the file ARIALNB.TTF - so I had to use the following steps to get it to work
1. Insert your Age of Empires II disc. DO NOT run the setup through autoplay. Close autoplay, go to My Computer, right click the AoE 2 CD and Open it.
2. Now right click AOESETUP.EXE and click properties and go to the Compatibility tab
3. In compatibility mode, Select Run this program in compatibility mode for: and in the Drop down menu, select Windows 98 / Windows ME
In Settings, select the following options:
Disable visual themes
Disable desktop composition
In Privilege level, select Run this program as administrator Click apply and then click OK
4. Now, run AOESETUP.EXE as administrator and the setup should complete without a hitch B. Installing Age of Empires II - The Conquerors Expansion
The conquerors setup went smoothly for me - did not need to set it to compatibility mode. If you run into problems, I suggest you use the above method. C. Updating the game and Installing the resolution patch
note: the resolution patch will only work for The Conquerors Expansion and not for the vanilla Age of Kings
1. You can get the 1.0c patch from Microsoft Games. Install it.
2. Now get the resolution patch made by boekabart of [URL] - download the AoE2WideSetup.msi installer
3. Get a No-CD exe for the conquerors expansion -the widescreen patch only works for No-CD exe, spent around an hour trying to get the widescreen patch to work only to find in the readme that it wont work with the original executable because its encrypted or something
4. The readme for the widescreen patch says that it only works when it's installed to the game folder of Age of Empires 2 so when installing the patch, keep that in mind. My installation path for the patch was: J:GamesMicrosoft GamesAge of Empires IIAoE2Wide
5. After installing the patch, you should get a shortcut on your desktop named AoE2Wide. Run it. After it finishes running you should get a .bat file on your desktop named "AoC1.0c 1680x1050.bat" or something.
6. Right click on the .bat file and go to the compatibility tab and select Run this program in compatibility mode for: and in the Drop down menu, select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and click OK.
7. Now run the .bat file as administrator and keep your fingers crossed!! In game menu, make sure to select 1280x1024 as resolution. If all goes well, the game should be running at your desktop/monitor resolution and the colours bug should vanish. Enjoy!
D. About the Music Bug and Fixing it
This has plagued AoE 2 for a long time now. The Age of Kings and The Conquerors CDs are mixed mode CDs i.e. one part holds the game data and the other part holds the game's BGM in Red Book Audio CD format. Now, old computers (1999-2000's) had no problems with this as they had an audio connector for the CD drive (more info here) and AoE would play the audio track off the CD once you start the game. But since now we use SATA drives, the game wont play BGM anymore.
This always puzzled me as when I got the game I had a Win 98 Pentium 2 PC with a Philips CD drive which had an audio connector and the BGM would play correctly- but when I got my Pentium 4 machine with a Samsung DVD drive with no audio connector, AoE 2 would not play music anymore and it takes a lot out of the game as the music plays a big part in setting the mood of the game.I used to get around this by starting a game in AoE, alt+tab back to windows and then playing the Game CD in Windows Media Player and then alt+tab back into the game. When using the above widescreen patch, my system hangs for a bit when alt tabbing back to windows (I guess it's because the patch suspends explorer.exe in order to prevent the colour bug). So after more searching on google and experimenting, I found another method here developed by TheMegaX2 and FrozenWolf150 Quote:
1. Use Windows Media Player to rip the soundtracks from the game CD's. I did this with both the AOK and AOC soundtracks. WMP will usually create .wma files.
2. Rename them to something recognizable, like AOK Track.wma, since the default name for both is 01 Track 1.wma.
3. Use a free audio converter, to convert them to .mp3 format.
4. Copy them to the Taunt folder.
5. Assign them numbers like you would for custom taunt files. I named them 50 AOK Track.mp3, and 51 AOC Track.mp3.
6. When you start the game, now you can choose between the AOK and AOC soundtracks, based which you prefer. Just press enter and type 50 for Age of kings BGM, and 51 for The Conquerors BGM and press enter again.

I have a Zotac 570 gtx connected via HDMI cable to my Asus VE258 LED monitor.I've had this video card and monitor setup working before with the exact cable, card and monitor.Something changed in my system where the monitor is no longer recognized for what it is. When i go into my Nvidia control panel under change resolution 1.Digital Display, 2. DVI-PC Display - Resolution 1080p 59 Hz. There is no DVI cable plugged into the computer and the monitor is set on HDMI input. When i go to my Audio playback devices, the HDMI connection does not show up at all, even as disabled or disconnected. When i go to play a game (Diablo 3, Skyrim, Farcry2) The game either doesn't open (skyrim) giving me the error that resolution is not recognized (but then does not give me any resolutions to choose from in the options menu) or will play (Diablo 3) but is stuck on extremely low resolutions with only 2 options.
Here's what i've done. Contacted Zotac and had them send me the most recent drivers for the video card. Uninstalled originals and re-installed the new ones. Contacted Asus (they say its not the monitor as long as its set on HDMI input) I am unable to find a driver that will make my computer (Windows 7) recognize the monitor for what it is. Zotac failed after their attempt with the driver and told me to RMA the card. So i did... i waited a month.

I am not an IT expert. I recently had my motherboard replaced by a friend of a friend and the tower was returned with Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit installed. I previously used Vista. I don't have access to an activation key. What is the best way to obtain a legitimate key? On amazon the price appears to be around £150 which seems hellishly expensive. Searching online there appears to be a UK supplier quoting £18.99.

I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.
I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.
So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

Not to long ago, I removed the HD from my laptop and slipped into an enclosure so that I could access information I had saved. When I initially did it all, I thought it was just a matter of connecting the enclosure to my tower and having it pop up like it would on a USB. Little did I know I needed to obtain permission and take ownership. After reading and searching for some time, I came across the below link, and followed the direction: You don't currently have permission to access this fold When I click on the folder and then properties, everything as it should be. I even followed the exact same steps provided in the below links as well, but to no avail:
- Change the permissions and take ownership of your files and folders | Windows Vista, XP and Windows 7 Tutorials
- I dont have the "correct permission" to access any of my - Microsoft Answers
- Windows 7 Take Ownership & Grant Permissions to Access Files & Folder
I don't know, and am at a lost right now. For example, when I click on a photo from my laptop HD, it states "Windows photo viewer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permissions to access the file location."

A friend of mine is asking me to help him setup an internet cafe. I've heard of volume licenses for operating systems and other software. After 2 days frustration I'm here. I'm wanting to purchase volume licenses for windows 7 home and microsoft office 2010 for 8 pcs. I've been to microsoft licensewise tool and after 3 hours to get the tool to work, it's not available in my country. So I select the closest but it's showing that it'll cost me $60,000. Buying single units is less than this! So something is wrong, I can't find any help. Hopefully someone else has done something like this? Or is there another way?

My PC is very fast, boot up is fast and when I first installed Windows 7, it used to obtain an IP address almost instantly.....now, after a few weeks use, the machine takes a lot longer to initiliase the networking, once it obtains the IP address, then everything else loads at quick speed and it runs fine.I'm using an ASUS P5Q-E motherboard, with dual Marvell-Yukon Gigabit NICS (although only one is enabled) and a DLINK ADSL modem-router.The router isn't the problem as other PCs connect to the network fine - And I'm sure it's not the network cards as I've downloaded and installed the latest ASUS approved version of the marvell-yukon WIN7 driver.I've experimented with installing / uninstalling the NIC, letting it use standard WIN7 drivers instead, trying a couple of different versions of the NIC driver but all to no avail. It's really annoying, as my PC is very fast normally and this is the only thing causing a slow delay on boot (it takes about 20-30 seconds to initialise DHCP).
