View 1 RepliesSometimes when I move directories the resulting directory needs to be modified under the security tab to add the "Authenticated Users" user in order to remove the lock icon. I've verified that I am the owner of the directory...and the other users with access to the directory is "System", My Account and "domain/Administrators".
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter HDD failure clean install of W7 Ultimate 64b on C drive(SSD)Trying to install programs to D drive(less frequntly used programs) I get error:"You don't have access to write to install directory" or "Installer has insufficient privileges to access the directory".My account is the administrator account and also at this point was the only account.I then tried creating a seperate administrator account (logged in with that and same errors )Also from elevated command prompt ran "net users administrator /active:yes".Still same errors.I know usual answer is right click and run as administrator when I 'right click' I don't get that option.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been given a project to test Windows 7 Pro in my work environment and our Desktop administration team has simply given me a stripped down version of Win 7 Pro, with little modifications. I got an error message when trying to install our e-mail client, and noticed it is not allowing me to write to the c:windows folder. I checked the permissions for it, and literally, No account has full control or even write permissions to this folder- not even the local administrator account. I have been unable to add permissions to the folder, because there is no account that has them...The local administrators have full control of C: and I attempted to force child objects of c: to inherit permissions from C:, but it did not work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have my 2 PC's networked in a Homegroup. 1 is running Win 7 Home Premium 64, the other Win 7 Ultimate 32. I want to write to the Program Files folder on the 32 bit system from the Program Files (x86) folder on the 64 bit system. All other read/write operations between these 2 systems are succeeding. I have set up full permissions on both Program Files folders exactly as with other folders: Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Share this folder > Permissions > Full Control for "Everyone". I suspect UAC may be intervening. Is there any way to defeat this? My final objective is to automate synchronization between a few selected areas in these Program Files using my backup utility, SyncBackSE. It kept failing based on access denied, so I tried to drag & drop manually via windows explorer, and this is also not allowed. don't focus on questions about SyncBackSE - I am seeking help getting permission to move & change files via explorer.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new PC it has Windows 7 Pro 64Bit OS. My old XP box finally died. I have my music drive which is external USB 500 GB drive Seagate Free Agent drive. I used in on my old system. I have about 110GB of music on it. It is my main music drive. I got some new songs that i wanted to add to the drive. I tried to make a new directory and I received a message saying that I don't have permission to create a folder. I tried creating a new folder within my music directory. I can create a new folder within the root of the drive but I cannot create a new directory where I want it. I am an admin on the PC so I even made sure that I was added as a user on the drive when I set permissions and sharing.

I can't get any write or change access on the USB drive folders or files. I cannot change permissions in advanced mode, and it lists the file/directory owner as unknown in the group or user names box. It complains that I don't have administrator control, however I am logged in as administrator. How can I take ownership & change permissions on this drive?

I'm new on this forum and I'm having a little problem when I try to install a new application, the DAZ 3D. I can't install because Windows 7 shows me this message: There has been an error. Error creating directory C:/Users/?Wagner/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D" Something (not me) is putting a question mark (?) before my username.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi set up an OU in AD that contains shortcuts to various shares on various servers. instead of having 10+ shortcut icons on their desktops, my w2k users could access all network shortcuts from one shortcut. plus, when the location of a share moves to a different server, i don't have to delete old shortcuts and create new ones on 30+ desktops. in xp, the directory icon went away so i couldn't create a shortcut to the OU. i discovered copying the dsfolder.dll icon to xp fixed the problem. can a desktop shortcut to an OU be achieved in Windows 7?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI wanted to have copies of some of the intrinsic Windows 7 operating system command line .exe files located on another drive and directory. When I run C:WindowsSystem32Ping.exe /? at an Adminstrator's command prompt, it runs fine. If I copy this .exe to X:Tempping.exe (X: is on the same hard drive on the same computer), it will not run at an Adminstrator's command prompt. The file on X: has full permissions. I am running Norton Internet Security.
