I downloaded a lot of pictures on to my computer and openned them in to picture manager. I renamed them and a bunch of the pictures were named the same thing. When I tried to find the picture that I named before it with the same name it was nowhere to be found. How do I go about finding the other pictures I have with the same name I have at least 5 pictures with the same names which is about a total of 20 lost pictures.
I have a user who said she was in MicroSoft Picture manager and when she quit the program, it changed all of her desktop icons to look like the MicroSoft Picture Manager Icon. Except My Computer, My Network, icons. Does anyone know how that happened and how to put it backI logged into the computer as myself and the icons are okay. I also, went to C:\Users\"her Name"\desktop and the icons looks okay under that. I had her re-log in and the icons still look like MS Picture Manager.
i can't get the business contact manager component of office 2007 on windows 7. the SQL Server 2005 component will not install which stops the whole program.
I used to have folders with a display of pictures on the front. Now I have plain folders, when opened, they have an icon to click and the a large picture shows up. I would like to open the folder and see the thumbprints immediately. Toshiba Satellite running Win 7.
Windows 7 now incorporate Librarys as a way of sorting ur stufff instead of designated Folders. Well I always Renamed my libraries (from Beta to RC to now Win 7 Pro) with no probs at all.Tll just now. I discovered all my libraries have "fixed" them selves to the default naming (music, Videos, Documents...you get the pic ). Any further changes to the library name does not work at all. However if i were to change the library name to anything other than the desired library name, it would change without a hitch. just what is going on here? It jut recovered from another prob, that was Chckdsk not starting (it would get stuck at 1 second) now my question is these problems interelated, and if so do i really have to reinstall My copy of windows 7 ?(please don't tell me i have to. D=)
I ripped a CD to my HD and it mixed up the tracks and the track names, so all are out of sync by two positions. I renamed all the songs correctly but when I play them with VLC or WMP the music plays the correct song but the names remain the same. How can I get the names to appear as per the song being played?
I have many videos and music that needs renaming often but i'm wary of 3rd party apps. I use to use rename-it! back when i had vista and xp but it hasn't been updated for Windows 7
Just bought a new PC. Runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. I'm new to Windows 7 but have used previous Windows versions for years and years (but not Vista). And I've never seen this happen with any other operating system. Out of the box, Windows 7 sets up this "My Documents" & "Public Documents" system of folders (and the same for pictures, music and videos). And that's great for separating each user's documents and providing common folders which all users can see. But, shortly after setting my new PC up (installed a printer & some other hardware bits, installed Office & copied my document files across from the old PC), Windows suddenly renamed the "My" & "Public" versions of the documents, music & videos folders. Looking at it all via my own account (I'm admin, by the way), I had folders called "Documents" & "Documents" instead of "My Documents" and "Public Documents" (and the same for music & videos). But it kindly left me with "My Pictures" and "Public Pictures" folders. This has actually happened on two machines now. It happened on the original new PC. But the store exchanged it with an identical new machine
I just purchased my new (to me) HP laptop, a former demo unit at the local wal mart, and went through the motions of setting up the system.course, that sticks me with the user name brenda. I've tried to copy the user folder contents to a new account, but some of the files are access protected (even from the owning user, I checked).not really to far in to start fresh, but I absolutly hate having to redo all that work cause of one little (really should be easy to fix) issue
I have a strange problem regarding renaming multiple files, mainly pictures as I have tons of them. Whenever I name all pictures in a folder, highlighting them all and renaming the first one, it renames the first 40 in groups of two, as follows:
Filename (1)
Filename (1)
Filename (2)
Filename (2)
Filename (3)
Filename (3)
...and so on until it gets to 20, then they're renamed properly.
They are all JPEGS. This method worked brilliantly in XP, why not 7?
Does anyone have any ideas at all around this, or even some software I can use to rename files?
I renamed the wireless network (ESSID) of my router from one of my Windows XP PC's, and then found that my Windows 7 PC could no longer see any networks at all (there are several from neighbours in addition to mine).
Nothing seemed to help - Rebooting, uninstalling drivers for the wireless card, etc. Eventually I got it to work by giving the network card a fixed IP address, and the it could see all the networks again. I could then change it back to DHCP and it was still okay.
I seem to remember seeing a tool called file 2 folder which puts a files into thier own folder and names the folder the same as the original file, i have had a search both here and google but have not managed to find it. Also, I have a fair few folders all containing 1 file, the folders are named correctly but the files inside are not, is there an easy to make the files match the folder they are in?
What I describe below doesn't always happen but it does lots of times: Let's say I delete a folder, it will tell me that access is denied, a program is using it, to solve that, I have to open another folder, or click on an image, then go back to the folder I want to delete, and delete it.
Renaming (this is all over the network) here's what I do: 1. Open randomly named folder to check content. 2. Go back up one folder level to rename the folder according to content. 3. Error! Folder is in use by another program (not specified), please try again 4. Try opening another folder and then going back again to rename originally wanted folder... sometimes it works. 5. Wait 5-10 minutes before renaming.
I just tried to rename a folder without even going into the folder....Error!! "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again."
Why is it everytime I want to rename a folder for instance of music, that has never even been opened yet, i always get "The action can't be completed because a folder or file in it is open in another program"?
I changed one of my bluetooth device name "Phone", I was just missing with it, now it won't show my device name , it always show the name I have choosen for it. How can I restore it ?
I tried searching on registry , no luck , not sure if it's there, I removed bluetooth driver and reinstalled it. I removed device phone, when I try to pair with it again, it still shows the name I have choosen.
I am looking for a way to script renaming printers on Windows 7. We need to shorten the printer name for so of our applications to be able to print to them.
Does Windows 7 finally allow me to disable this "feature"? It's one of the few things which I have an irrational hate for. If I want to rename the file I will use the rightclick context menu. PLEASE. I only use the left mouse button for two things:selecting something and doubleclicking to open something.
I'm renaming some songs but when I do this I get this message:But my filename is not that long! Here is how long I can make it before my keyboard does not enter characters. They just don't show up when I type.
I've recently picked up a new hard drive from a buddy of mine.I've managed to change my computer name and user account name. However, the user folder in "My Computer -> Local Disk C: -> Users" is locked, and I am unable to change the name.It doesn't cause any problems, I just want to find a way to change it if its possible. As well, I've also set permissions, but it only allows me to access the files, which is not the problem, since I only want to change the name of the User Account Folder.
When I try to rename a folder, I get a comment like something open in another folder or program and I know of nothing that it is open - Hence I cant make a rename. Also if I move a File to another folder, it just copies it and then it wont let me delete the original folder --- Doing this kind of stuff used to be so easy on XP , but I guess one has to learn it all over again.
about 2 weeks ago i installed windows on a new custom built computer, and everything was fine till about 3 or 4 days ago when it suddenly wouldn't let me empty the recyle bin, or move or rename any file from anywhere, not even my external HD. It doesn't give me any error when I try, just nothing happens at all. Also when i try to make a new file or folder inside an existing one i get a system error 340. I've tried booting into safe mode and deleting/moving/renaming and nothing. Same with Unlocker nothing seems to work. Ide hate to have to install windows again and loose things i have downloaded since i can't move them to my external HD or burn them on a disk.
Has anyone else noticed if you rename a feed in Windows Live Mail. The RSS link will be broken?
If you wish to rename the feed in order to organize your Feeds. You must use the manage feeds option from the right click menu. After opening the manage feeds windows. Create a new folder and then move your RSS feeds to the new folder. If you have saved feeds, they will need to be moved as well before deleting the old RSS folder.
I must say this does not seem user friendly. I do hope they fix this. Simply renaming the RSS feed from the right click menu should not break the RSS feed links.
I realize that it takes 8-10 seconds to open up a picture when i want to click on it to view it. I do not have such problem with Vista and Window XP. Is this a new problem??
I finally got around to recognizing the use of the Libraries feature in Windows 7, and can't believe I didn't realize it earlier. Anyways, my question is, I have 2 folders in a Library with the same name (but point to different locations), basically they contain the same files but one resides in My Dropbox and one resides on my local HD. When I rename a folder in Libraries (to distinguish btwn the 2), it also renames that folder in the actual folder location. I was wondering if I could ONLY rename the folders in the Libraries view, without having it reflect on the actual folder name. Also, I was wondering if any of you have used the Libraries feature as an Application Launcher (ie. creating different Libraries for Programs, Games, etc.), and would like to know how that works/worked out.
How to rename a bunch of files in Windows 7 while ignoring the filetypes at the same time? In Windows XP this wasn't a problem, no matter what format the file had, the numbering would continue anyway. In Windows 7 the numbering starts over again when a file has a different filetype format.
For example: WINDOWS XP: file (1).jpg file (2).mov file (3).wma
I'm running the 32 bit version of Windows 7 and it's fully up to date in terms of patches. This issue only affects libraries. The issue started out of the blue a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't installed any new software or changed any settings and I also tried using System Restore to go back to a couple of days before this issue started?
1. I go into my library called "Videos" and right-click and choose New - Folder. The new folder does not appear.
2. I either press F5 or right-click - refresh and then I can see the new folder I created.
3. I give the new folder a name, for example "test". The folder shows the name "test".
4. I rename the folder to something else, for example "renamedtest". The folder still shows the name as "test".
5. I either press F5 or right-click - refresh and then the folder name changes to "renamedtest".
Basically, any time I create a folder, rename a file or folder, delete a file/folder, move a file/folder etc. I do not see the effects of my actions until after I've manually refreshed. This only affects libraries.
