Shutting Down Windows 7 Started Taking 20-30 Seconds
Nov 1, 2012My PC started taking ~30 seconds to shut down recently. This never happened before. I must add that it doesn't always happen. If I restart / shut down soon after turning the computer, it shuts down in under 5 seconds. But if I use it for several hours then it takes half a minute or so.I can't think of many things I changed, but I remember installing a number of Windows updates and also new Catalyst 12.10 video card drivers.Things I've tried: Checked the "ClearPageFileAtShutdown" setting, it's 0. Tried this tutorial and used the 2 second thing, no change. Enabled verbose startup, shutdown, logon, and logoff status Messages. This was pretty useless as when shutting down it cycles through "Stopping services" and other stuff faster than I can read, but then gets stuck on the "Shutting down" part, not very informative There doesn't seem to be any hung apps because I get no prompt to end task (I got that a few times before, and it seems to happen way before it goes into the "Shutting down" message).

Jul 8, 2011when i open a browser like internet explorer or windows live mail. The monitor screen blanks for a few seconds.I have an Nvidia Gforce 260, running windows 7pro. Amd dual core processor.The trouble started after updating my video and DivX drivers to play duke nukum.I think it may be a driver issue because it happened about a year ago as well but eventually stopped. I have changed resolution settings with no effect to the blanking screen.

Nov 2, 2012windows 7 x64 on my laptop (intel core i5 @ 2.50ghz, 4 gb ram) has recently started freezing for a few seconds every few seconds, when i'm doing just about anything: browsing the web, copying files, using text redactor, etc. only the mouse cursor responds, control is back after a couple of seconds.
* the behaviour remains the same when booting in the safe mode
* there are no cpu or memory usage peaks in process explorer
* there are no hardware conflicts in device manager
* there are no critical errors in system log
* there is no antivirus active
* hardware tests (memory, etc.) do not report any errors
i suspect this has started after i've updated all the drivers from manufacturer's site, but i am not 100% sure. anyway, i do not know which driver has caused this and i cannot easily restore to the previous state.
Startup Time From 75 Seconds To 165 Seconds?
May 9, 2011I have a month-old Dell Inspiron N7010 Core i5 460M with 6 gigs of ram running on Windows 7. Until recently, it has been starting up in about 75 seconds. However, out of nowhere, it suddenly began starting up in between 2 and a half minutes to 3 minutes. I am completely baffled, and I do not know what is wrong. Could it have been something I installed, or is it something that is beyond my knowledge. The last things I downloaded before the problems started were Starcraft II, Need for Speed World, and Microsoft Security Essentials, but I doubt one of those is the source of problem.

Aug 14, 2012I am running a dual monitor setup with my TV hooked up via HDMI to my laptop.
Everything was working fine before, I always had the laptop as my main display yet I could play a video or a game fullscreen on the TV.
Since a couple of days, as soon as I put something in fullscreen, it immediately goes on my laptop, regardless if it's open on my TV or my laptop. I don't remember changing/installing anything that could've changed that...
I checked a bit in the AMD vision software and the Windows control pannel but I can't seem to solve my problem without switching my TV as the main display. I also made a quick search on google as well as here but the problems were mainly with Flash, which isn't in cause here.

Dual Monitor Issue, Secondary Monitor Is Undetectable
Jan 6, 2010I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.
I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.
In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.
When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.
I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get

Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"
I have two monitors, both work fine as standalone but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.
Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.
Windows 7 Not Recognizing Second Monitor For Dual Monitor?

Oct 21, 2010I recently had an older HP Pavilion Media Center m7760n Desktop PC rebuilt. The old power supply fried the motherboard so I need to get a new power supply and motherboard. Here are my current specs.
Mainboard : Asus P5QPL-VM EPU
Chipset : Intel G41
Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 @ 2133 MHz
Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )

As you can see from above, the "video card" is actually integrated into the motherboard.The computer works perfectly except for one major problem. I have 2 monitors, one is 22" with 1680 x 1050 resolution and the other is a 15" monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution. At the back of my computer I have a VGA port and a DVI port. The 15" is connected to the VGA port and the 22" is connected to the DVI port.When first starting the computer, the 15" monitor was recognized as the primary monitor while the 22" was recognized as the secondary monitor. No problem. I simply went to the display settings and set the 22" to be the primary monitor and the 15" to be the secondary monitor. Unfortunately, this setting seems to reset as soon as I reboot the computer. The 15" is always set as the primary monitor on start up, forcing me to set the proper settings all over again. What's worse is that even after I have set the proper settings, they sometimes revert back when using Media Center or other programs. Worse yet, sometimes the monitors both go completely black ... as if the monitor settings were about to switch but got locked up some how.I'm assuming that perhaps the on board video has a primary port (VGA) and a secondary port (DVI) but even still, shouldn't Windows 7 be able to over-ride this and save these settings so that the monitor settings remain the same during startup and regular usage?
Dual Monitor Desktops In One Monitor?
Feb 3, 2011I'm using a television (32p) as a second monitor in extended mode so that I can watch a movie in the TV and play a game in the monitor (this was my main goal). Monitor and TV lays in two different ambients, both connected to the same pc, one by normal VGA cable and the other by HDMI. I managed to differentiate the audio output so that VLC player sends it's audio to the HDMI (so that only the TV plays it) and the rest of system sounds, media players and games outputs to the speakers (basically only the VLC audio is directed to another output device). I reached my goal so that I can watch a movie fullscreen in the TV and play a game in the monitor fullscreen too without any interference from one another (nor audio or video).
The thing is, because I have the TV in another ambient I can't actually see what's going on in it, as I just "throw" the VLC window to the TV from my main monitor. And here's the question: There's a way to see the TV's desktop in my monitor? Without having to set it as main monitor so to not really switch between desktops.. The perfect thing would be if I could see the TV's desktop in a window like in remote desktops applications.
Get A Broadband Monitor Not A Network Monitor?
Sep 27, 2011I have AT&T DSL and it just drops out, I have a 2 wire router and the DSL and Internet lights will flash red when it drops, I have had this problem for almost a year and AT&T will run a useless test and tell me everything is fine. I have searched for 3 days trying to find a Broad Band Monitor to let me know when it drops and for how long, also how many times while I am at work, or just not on the PC.

Aug 29, 2011i've had this pc for a year almost now and it just started to freeze at random moments for like 10 seconds, but after that it return to normal. it can really be annoying while watching Internet or something the sound gets really irritating. the picture stays the same, and after few seconds it just quickly rewinds in few pictures.

Lag Spike Every 30 Seconds
Oct 16, 2011So lately I've been getting lag spikes every 30 seconds or so. They last no more than 1 or 2 seconds, but they are incredibly annoying.For example, I will be typing, scrolling, clicking something, or watching something and it will completely freeze for 1 or 2 seconds, then suddenly jump to where the screen is supposed to be (like to the tab that SHOULD be showing if I clicked on a different tab during the lag spike) [code] Everything was fine. One day I restarted my PC (I usually set it to sleep at night, but this time I had to restart) and after that I noticed the lag spikes. The only significant thing between then and now is probably reinstalling TESIV Oblivion but I do not see that being an issue.These lag spikes are not related to my web browser, as they happen even when I do not use the internet. However I DO NOT GET ANY LAG SPIKES WHILE I AM PLAYING A GAME. When my PC is dedicated to running a game I do not get any lag spikes at all. They only happen on the desktop / internet.

There is no apparent link between the lag and CPU or memory (RAM) usage. So I've ruled that out because these stay at the same level even during the lag.I should add that all the relevant drivers are up to date.

The first thing i want to do is to buy a new single RAM memory of 2 GB at 800MHz, because personally I think that the RAM is the weak link of the system.The first question is: What is the best combination? To have 3GB of RAM at 667MHz or 2GB at 800MHz.Now with the currently configuration (1GB at 667MHz) the level of used RAM memory in idle is 75%.The other problem is that every time when the PC is shutting down, the green light turns off and the red one is blinking very fast, giving you the impression that it's always lit; and the red light intensity is very low; (it emits less light). The PC has 2 coolers (one for CPU and other to the power source ...and the VGA doesn't have a cooler) and when the PC is shutting down the phenomenon with the lights happens and one of the coolers will never stop (i don't know which of them).the red light is blinking very fast at low light intensity and a cooler is on.and those will never end up until you will press the shut down button for a few seconds.The system was configured (installed the OS and the other programs)... by a guy with knowledge and he said that this happens because of the newer OS installed. (Windows 7).This problem doesn't appear when restarting the PC.It appears only when the system is shutting down.The second question is: Can the small capacity of RAM (1GB) lead to this phenomenon?

Mar 22, 2010I am having an issue with windows 7 64bit. Every time i am done using the pc, it will randomly shut down, at different times. I have no clue what the issue is. I do not have a heat problem , nor PSU problem. When I am on the computer, whether it is 20 mins or 4 hours, no problems, but when I am done using it, and nothing is being used, it will just shutdown.

Feb 29, 2012lately i have been having alot of trouble with my pc, it crashes for about 0.5 seconds every 5 to 10 seconds and makes a weird buzzing noise which has different pitches depending on the sound of the video/game. this is only when viewing Internet videos or playing games. the games i play i am 100% sure i can handle with my pc since i have played them before this problem. if it helps, my graphics card is my brothers old graphics card which he didnt have any trouble with but my old graphics card (ati radeon hd 5670) was having a different kind of lag problem which made almost any game play slow, even 2d games. it can be stopped if i keep restarting my computer and in the end it will stop lagging for like an hour or so but then the lagging starts again please help! i will leave my computer specs below.
