Apr 17, 2009I have lost all my list in the all programs in the start button and wated to know if you have found or know of a better way to solve this issue other than a repair install.

Manually Add Programs To The Default Listings?
Nov 12, 2011My sound isn't working.One thing I notice is that Windows Media Player is not listed as a Microsoft Default Program. Neither are several others I would expect. How do I manually add programs to the default listings?

ComboFix has restored all of the files.Programs also all appear to be working, although all of the "All Programs" listings are empty. I can find and run them from Start search.Does anyone know of a way to repopulate the All Programs list without having to Repair/Reinstall the Programs, since they all work fine?

Aug 26, 2009recently went from the pre installed vista on my HP dv6920ea laptop to 7enterprise.
When i put in a cd or usb key there is no autorun box that appears now.
Also ive lost the pre installed cd / dvd burning / copying program. Where might i find that again?

Nov 20, 2012I did an update and got a BSOD. Message said "Check disc"' After completion, all my programs and settings are lost. I have done Acronis backups, but they are gone. I tried to do a restore, but only date it gives is today's. Can I use the Windows 7 disc to do a repair or will I have to do a complete re-install? Also, after screen came back, I kept getting a "Windows Validation Failed" even though I clicked Validate online and it said "Validation complete".

I have five versions of a Brother printer and four versions of an HP printer, and only one of each is actually good. How do I clean up that window by getting rid of those obsolete references that no longer work? It's ridiculous that they don't simply disappear when I select one of them as the default.

Jul 15, 2012I have a HP Touchsmart 300-1060a (Home Premium Windows 7 64 BIT) which I bought few years back. Now for the last 6 months or so I started getting issues with my machine was not displaying anything at all after turning it on. So I had to hard reset my power from the machine and then was able to see it started displaying again.At first I suspected graphic card (NVIDIA GEFORCE) but then I did my diagnostic test and nothing was found.One day, I started re-imaging my machine as a fresh and then after this it never came back ONLINE. I read all HP forums & even HP Online support was unable to help me to find the cause.Because when I turn on my machine I can see the power light was on and could hear big fan noise but mo HDD activity at all.So at this stage, I suspected either motherboard or BIOS but wasn't 100% sure what could be the real cause because I was sure it was not due to graphic card.So first I re-setted by my BIOS to see if it helps but it didn't came up at all. So then I took my machine to a Computer repair shop (a friend of mine) and we detected it could be due to the regulator which supplies power to the CPU and motherboard.So we replaced that part and now my HP Touchsmart is running fin since then.But I have lost my HP Startup logo with options such as below: [code]

I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.

Feb 3, 2013Every time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.
Windows 7 Will Download Programs But Not Install Programs?
Aug 24, 2011I have just bought a new acer aspier 5750z-4830 intel core b940 processor 4gb ddr3 memory 500 gb hdd 3 days ago and I am unable to install any new programs.I have tried to download meny sotwer not at the same time but the results are horrable.google chrome: 7 hours and never downloads. yahoo mesenger: connection is always lost and retrys never work. when i click cancle it says that it maybe my firewall but even when i allow the progrom through it won't work. so i turned if off for a little while still nothing. java: my laptop dose not come with java so i tried instlling it...121 hours to install this is rediclious.The download speed may not be so good right now beacuse we where hit by a storm 3 days ago however i have to ability to downlod but not the ability to install which i think is a bit weird

Feb 6, 2011I downloaded Adobe Shockwave Player which is needed to view a file (.swf), and it appears in the control panel as an installed program. However, it does not appear as a default program when I am trying to use the "associate a file type or protocal with a specific program" even when I press the browse list. The program also does not appear when I "right click" the file itself and use the open command. The program also does not appear in the list of programs on the "All Progams: list when clicking the windows icon. Last week I was trying to backup some files to External HD, because of some editing that is due in three days from now. I have spent that week using Tune Up Utilities, System Mechanic, Hdd regenerator, CheckDisc Gui, Advanced System Care, checkdisk, WinDlg, Perfect Disc, PDtt (or something like that) and many other trying to fix some error that was reported by windows whenever I connected the drive to Pc.
Finally I decided to go with that same windows utility that was reporting errors and everything went fine.
But today I was trying to defrag index files on fixed internal partition with Perfect Disc that is done during boot, and Chkdsk appeared and before I could stop it started fixing something and erased 200gb of material or stored it somewhere where I can't find it. I can't find reports, log or anything.No indications of it in any of the utilities. I revealed hidden files/folders, went through Total Commander view, even Nero, and nothing, no trace of chk files. But I can see used space:

It created a Hilda PC user and I also have a Hilda user so I transferred all of my files from Hilda PC to Hilda and deleted the Hilda PC folder. I went to open a .doc file I use frequently and was not able to find it. I had just used it an hour earlier so I know I have it on the PC but now I can't find it. I even ran a retrieve deleted files software in case I had inadvertently deleted it and it didn't show up. I have done a complete search of my PC and external HD and I can't find it.I am nervous because it contained some sensitive information.

Jun 7, 2012I'm having a little problem with my SSD. It's a Corsair Force 3 120GB. With the starting loss of 9GB it's a 111GB SSD. When I click computer from the start menu to view the available disk space it says 44GB. This dropped from 58GB to 44GB today without me installing/changing anything. Also, if I go into the SSD, and make sure view all hidden files and folders is on, if I add up all the space used it is 58GB, 111-58=53 so surely I should have 53GB left?

Dec 12, 2009Windows 7 Display was on Power Save at the time of install and everything seemed to be working as planned.
After several weeks with using Windows 7, with the Monitor in Power Save, I tried to activated it, the screen went black and it looked like the monitor died. Restarted the computer and monitor did not return to life.
Finally, concluded that it was DOA, and turn the machine off and went to buy a new one since this dead monitor was a LCD and was 5 years old. But wait.......from the monitor was a green flashing light and if I did whatever giggling with the cords and unplugged and replugged, the monitor came to life again but soon after it again died.
Was about to install the new monitor when the old one again came to life. This time, I took it off Power Save and set the screen saver to black after 10 minutes. It's now a full day later without any issue and the old monitor looks great again.
Are there issues with the Power Saver feature and not with my monitor?
Is my LCD on the last leg of life and these just die without warning?
I am ready to return the new monitor but can anyone advise weather this is a Power Saver issue or is my monitor in the process of checking out and going black for good?
