View 5 RepliesThe laptop I'm working on (And HP G series; running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium) had a NASTY trojan that disabled the keyboard and mouse (is what I'm assuming). I was able to work on the laptop with a USB mouse and the onscreen keyboardAfter going through about 10 AV software I finally got rid of all the Trojans (the scans on various AV software ran clean multiple times after removal); but the keyboard and trackpad continue to be disabled.Under the Device Manager it lists as the device as a "code 10" error.Doing some Googling I found a post that said do delete the registry entries that were labeled "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters"; which I did and I rebooted. Now my USB mouse OR my USB keyboard won't work.I tried using a Linux Live CD and the trackpad and keyboard DOES work there no problem. Also the keyboard works fine when I'm in the BIOS.It's only when I'm in Windows (even in Safe Mode) that the keyboard/trackpad/USB Mouse/USB Keyboard doesn't work...so it's not a hardware problem.Things I've tried (besides deleting those registry entries)- Startup Repair- sfc /scannow- Reinstall the drivers (when I DID have access to Keyboard and Mouse)So to recap; I cannot use the keyboard/trackpad (or a USB Mouse and USB Keyboard) in Windows (including safe mode); but they DO work when not using Windows.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have the most strange issue with my keyboard. It works in Bios, it works in safe mode, it works when I try to repair windows (repair files are added to a partition on the laptop - its how I bought it) but whenever windows boots normally, the keyboard won't work.It is a built in keyboard to my laptop and the fact it works everywhere else tells me it's fine (just in case connectors were damaged I stripped it and had a look anyway).Things I have tried
1) uninstalling the driver in safe mode - this reinstalls when I reboot but still no joy. The strange part is I do not think the driver files are corrupted because safe mode and normal mode seems to use the same drivers (standard ps2).
2) The manufacturer (HP Compaq) has no specific drivers which leads me to believe that standard ps2 is right but I reinstalled quick buttons -no joy
3) there are no conflicts or yellow exclamation point in device manager
4) the only thing I did was upgrade my AV (AVG 2013) so uninstalled -no joy.
5) ran AV and MBAM and ran TDSS killer just in case - no virus or malware
6) cleaned registry with Ccleaner -no joy
7) no processes or startup items are unusual but I have killed /disabled just in case-no joy
8) did a system restore (no joy)
9) I had backed up the registry ages ago so I tried that -no joy
10) Tried on battery and plugged in no battery in case the power is an issue -no joy
11) reflashed Bios - no joy
12 - All language sttings looked ok

I've been having trouble with my new motherboard BioStar TZ68K+ . Whenever I access the BIOS, the selection keeps moving up as if the "up arrow" key on the keyboard was stuck. My keyboard is connected via purple PS2 in the back. I tried with a different keyboard, this time a USB connection, and still the same result. It seems to be happening only in the BIOS as it doesn't do any strange behaviour when I'm in Windows. I updated the BIOS to the latest version and cleared the CMOS using the jumper on the board.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife's laptop broke down a few months ago, and we wanted to get some files off of the hard drive. I grabbed an extra eSATA cable and connected it to an extra port on my desktop motherboard... without remembering to connect it to the power supply. Anyway, when I booted up the machine, I was unable to get past the BIOS, getting an error message "Keyboard Error or No Keyboard Present". Even after shutting down and removing the hard drive, I'm still getting this error message. We've tried a number of different keyboards and it's coming up the same every time.

I have a sony vaio laptop. After having a blue screen appeared and computer turning off by itself i cant login to safe mode. I was able to go to f2 bios but not to the advance booting options f8 or shift+f8.
so after tuning off i tried turning on the laptop. sony logo appeared and then theres was a black screen with a small white line blinking and that was the farthest it could go. So i tried formatting and installing a fresh copy of windows 8 and for my surprise I was able to logon into windows again.
The problem now is, that im still not being able to login into safe mode or adavance booting options.is there a way to do a complete hardware diagnosis?
I have had an expensive time with my computer recently but i am now beyond the brink and turning the tide of war to my favour.I have recently kitted my ailing PC out with a new SSD for the OS install. This is working great; i have just tonight had to plug in a brand new GFX card for my gaming pc.(My GFX card burned out due to overheating, so i have now got a new case and proper cooling)Basically, my secondary hard disk (Files Storage etc) is not working, when plugged into my sata port my computer hangs at the Windows Loading screen, also i cannot get into the BIOS.If i unplug the hard drive (Not SSD, 500GB Hitachi) my computer boots in 14 seconds, and the bios works fine.I have concluded my secondary hard disk may be broken.if i can fix it as i can barely afford to buy a new one (even knowing they are cheap).Basically if it had broken i would expect my PC would say so, seems to me that it is just waiting for a response and sitting around for hours to get it
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop seems to have problems with most USB devices. It is running Win 7 professional 64 bit. Firstly it will only take a HP external keyboard. I have tried a Microsoft KB and a Kensington KB and neither would work. A standard mouse will work OK. Then I tried to use a Plantronic BUA200 BT dongle. Had one working after about 2 days of fiddling, then got a new one and it sits with a yellow triangle saying it needs a driver, but can't find any. The odd thing is the dongle will still pair with the headset. So I bought a USB headset today and gets the same thing. Windows tries to install it, but says it fails to find the drivers. Have run Windows update twice recently, so that is all up to date. USB flash drives seem to be OK.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI purchased motherboard with the manufacturer number of MB.G0409.005 (MB.G0409.005 GATEWAY MOTHERBOARD DESKTOP BOARD SOCKET AM2) on 2/3/12. I had put it into my system and then proceeded to install upgrades from the Gateway website. I saw there was a BIOS update (file: 924G1P11.ROM) available so I tried to update my BIOS. Well, after updating my BIOS with the .ROM file that I had gotten from their website [URL], but after that, the on board ATI graphics adapter is no longer working. I tried to contact Gateway with no luck and them telling me that they don't recommend updating the BIOS. I also tried to contact the place where I purchased the motherboard from and they said that they didn't have the original .ROM. The motherboard is also not listed on the Foxconn website either. I am running Windows 7 x64 Build 7601 and I have also tried using a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS live USB and that did not work as well. As far as I can tell, the BIOS will not even recognize it. I am now currently using a NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 graphics card that is plugged into the 16x PCI-E slot. I have found modified .ROM files that someone had done for this motherboard, but I don't want to risk it. And every forum and post I've come across has dead links to ones that someone has made a copy of the .ROM file and uploaded from their motherboard.
My system is a Gateway DX4300-15e with 6 gb's of DDR2 RAM (originally 8 gb's of RAM, but a 2 gb stick blew out from a power surge, hence why I had to get a new motherboard) with a AMD Phenom II x4 970 Black Edition Deneb 3.5GHz Socket AM3 processor.
Today my laptop keyboard and mouse stop working for some odd reason because some weird anti vurse popped up on my computer freezing it so I restarted it . I thought my computer frozen so I would restart it , but I just hooked up my keyboard and mouse and they work just fine on the laptop , but when i unplug them i can't use my keyboard or mouse to my computer. I am not sure if i pressed something to make the touchpad and keyboard stop working .Maybe I could have put in sleep mode or something.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed windows 7 ultimate on my daughters, acer aspire 3050 laptop. It was running vista home basic before. The vista install was damaged by viruses, so I decided to upgrade her to 7. All the hardware was recognized, but for some reason the keyboard does not work, it was working fine with the virus riddled vista install. For some strange reason the windows key does bring up the start menu, but none of the other keys seem to do anything.
They all work in the BIOS just fine. Also the touch pad does work, but the cursor movement is very jerky, and it was also fine in vista. I went to acer's site, they don't have any windows 7 drivers available for this model, or any vista drivers for the keyboard, I installed the vista touch pad drivers, but they did not seem to help. I also messed with the keyboard settings in control panel, but nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas, on what I need to do to fix this. I have been really pleased with 7 on my other computers, and would hate to have to go back to vista.
I recently installed Windows 7 onto my Eee PC 1005HA. At some point recently, my CTRL-A for Select All and CTRL-S for Saving keyboard shortcuts stopped working for some reason.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I recently bought a n52te for gaming for my (windows 7) machine. I installed its drivers, plugged it in, worked great I loved it!Then after a reboot, both my regular keyboard (Razer Lycosa Mirror) and the n52te don't work in games only. But its ONLY when using the WASD keys to move around, if I go to chat in game, the keyboard works fine. Just using the WASD keys doesn't work, unless I tap the space bar, that usually makes you up, and if it doesn't make you jump, the WASD keys work again. the other keys on the keyboard, n52te and Lycosa, work such as the c, v, e, q, z, x, and many others.
If your confused, (like me) the WASD keys don't make you move even though they should, until you hit the space bar, then they (WASD keys) work until they get stuck moving me. I then have to press the key that moves me in the direction. ex. stuck going left, I have to hit the D key, then the space bar to be able to move again. But I can type just fine in games. Also this problem only occurs in games, no other applications. It seems to happen where a key is needed to be pressed, but does not type a letter (Flash games, Crysis, Various other games) But it works fine in a browser, or other writing app. to type
I have tried the following all with rebooting in between each try: (not in order)

Yesterday I got on my computer everything is running fine. Today got on it for awhile and suddenly the USB keyboard and USB mouse lock up. I've tried restarting it and I can't get past the first screen. It says keyboard not present or something around those lines.I plugged in a ps/2 keyboard and it works but my USB mouse will still not work. I've tried going into BIOS and making sure USB was enabled. Tried a system restore but for some reason it wont complete.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new wireless keyboard to replace my Dell AT102w (I know I know, replacing a mechanical beast with a tiny chiclet, but it's necessary due to recent space issues). For some reason the CTRL doesn't seem to work at all, there are two CTRL's as you'd expect and neither of them seem to register within windows I can't see both of them not working, seems like to much of a coincidence. Here is the keyboard layout:
I've tried reinstalling drivers by removing the little dongle and putting it in a different USB but it doesn't help. What is strange is the keyboard has an FN key but no keys to use in conjunction with it.
My laptop recently became buggered by a virus and as I did not have a windows 7 installation disc I decided to restore it to its factory default using some sort of dell backup utility.Since I did this my touchpad and keyboard no longer seems to work! keyboard works fine when i select f8 on startup as i can flick through the options however when i boot into safe mode the touchpad and keyboard still don't work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've run into an old problem when trying to reinstall windows 7, when I put the CD in and alter the BIOS to boot from CD, I get to the screen saying "Press any key to boot from CD" or something like that.
I've got a logitech G15 keyboard and a Microsoft media keyboard, both are USB, when I press them there is no response and it boots from the harddisk. I've had this problem ever since I installed Windows XP, first I thought it was a keyboard issue, but then I got the G15 and the problem persisted.
Since then I've replaced the motherboard, PSU, infact I think I've changed every single component, but the problem persist. Anyone have an idea of what is causing this? I'm forced to dig into the old storage at work for old PS/2 keyboards every time I'm installing a new OS
PS: The keyboards both work perfectly in BIOS, after booting an OS and when the installation disk has booted. Just in that place in between where you need to press buttons to either boot from various media or skip disk checks etc.
I have a Logitech G15 keyboard that refuses to wake up when the computer resumes. Everything else wakes fine and I do have power to it, but no response to key input. I have to unplug the KB, then plug it back in for the system to see it. It is plugged in to a hub along with my mouse and a few other things. Any ideas?
