View 1 Replies View RelatedMy screen goes black no matter what game I am playing. Can be an old game like Condition Zero or Left4dead2. screen goes black but there is still sound, then the monitor shuts off unable to find a signal. I have two computers with pretty much the same specs- pentium core duo 2.8 ghz, 3 gigs ram, both have Nvidea geforce 9500gt and one has XP and the other windows 7. One is an emachine and the other a Dell. The thing that is wierd is that both PC's run games perfectly with the same gpu's in both, Nvidea 9500gt, but one gpu developed a bad fan after awhile. and so I took that 9500gt out of that one and took the other 9500gt with the good fan out of the other PC and installed it in the computer with a bigger HD. Now when playing any game it can play perfectly for a few minutes to an hour then the screen goes black and there is nothing you can do about it. ctrlaltdlt won't bring the screen back on to get to the task manager, and the monitor shuts off and I must do a hard shutdown at the power button and restart.
I reinstalled both the drivers that came with the gpu and updated drivers from Nvidea's website. neither works and the problem still exists. If I install the gpu with the bad fan back in the computer having the issue, the problem is resolved and if I install the cpu that I switched out back where it was originally in the original pc it works in that one as well, so placing the two gpu's back in the original pc's they were in works, so this means it's not the operating system causing the issue.
This is the weirdest problem that iv been trying to solve myself for months now. Basically while playing pc games the screen goes black for a second then comes back and resumes as normal. thing is it is totally intermittent and slightly different for different games. e.g Titan quest, mass effect 1 and 2, need for speed shift 2 unleashed, HoN - it will go black for a second or so but the game will carry on as normal, sound continues and when the short black out is over my character has carried on moving as normal just without me being able to see what is going on F1 2010, Grid, Quake live - No black outs occur whatsoever Dead space, Dead island - the blackouts seam to affect the game either pausing or freezing the game when they occur to be honest it looks to me like the graphics driver is stalling for a few seconds and then recovering, But iv updated my graphics card drivers 4 times since this problem started and that hasn't changed anything, i even completely uninstalled the graphics drivers and reinstalled them to no avail. The only thing i haven't done is reinstalled windows and replaced my graphics card. Both of which i don't want to do unnecessarily. I read somewhere that video codex could be the issue, so a while ago i uninstalled k-lite and it seamed to fix the problem in mass effect 2, (not completely but id did seam to reduce it (coincidence?)) but after i finished that game i noticed it cropping up in other games again. So basically the advice im asking for is, Do you think its a hardware problem, should i invest in a new graphics card? or do you think its software that either a fresh copy of windows or some installing/uninstalling combination of different software might resolve the issue?
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy computer frequently crashes to a blank (black) screen when I play games like TES V or Fable III, and leaves me no alternative but to do a hard reset with the power button. I've cleaned out the air vents several times to no avail, and I'm pretty sure my video drivers are up to date. As far as I can tell the CPU isn't being overused either.I've had a very similar problem before, and last time cleaning the vents out with a compressed air can did the trick. The only difference last time is that it wasn't always a blank screen, sometimes it hard weird vertical lines all over it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I play Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, the desktop is stock from Dell with ATI Radeon HD 5670 1GB video card. It plays fine for 2 hrs or so then the screen would freeze for about 3 seconds and then the screen goes black for 10 to 15 second. Sometimes the game recovers sometimes the PC would crash.FYI I am a computer newbie. Below are my set up.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an older box with an Intel 2.4C processor (2.4Ghz Pentium IV). It does have a lot of memory for its age (2GB) and 2x120GB hard drives. I'm thinking of using it mainly for my iTunes sync (actual media files are on a network share) and maybe MS Office (not intensively). Not all at once though Inevitably, I'd have to have some sort of anti-virus I suppose, which always slows things down, especially on a single processor machine.Anyway, don't need high performance, but if it's going to be unusably slow, I won't bother. I have an unused copy of Win 7...worth trying? Can I install Win 7 and then not activate immediately to see if performance is acceptable? If it is, I would activate within a few days - I just want to try things out before I burn the license.
View 8 Replies View Relatedjust wanted to ask, if anyone by any chance has tried overclocking the new AMD's A6-3400M QuadCore 1.4Ghz. I've read somewhere that it can easily be set up to go 2.1 or even 2.3Ghz. I have never done any overclocking myself, so I'd also like to know which program or where in BIOS can this be done and are there any risks inlvolved.. its a new laptop so I do go overclocking only if its a safe thing to do.
PS. I've also read that this processor has in reality been underclocked.. to cut on voltage, power consumption, so essentially its a 'natural candidate'.

i want one of these chips so bad, waiting until the ddr3 version is out then gonna grab a new mobo as well me thinks as long as the ddr3 is black version.
At some point maybe trough windows update or other such event my processor drivers have been corrupted. My hard hard drive is constantly writing data at processor folder on windows as can be seen on attached screenshot of resource control panel. This takes up considerable amount of procressing power too. I haven't found any newer drivers from internet as haven't windows either. Disabling current drivers doesn't seem like great idea either.
Problem arised in updating to service pack 1 of windows 7, but I think it has been around for longer as hard drive has spinned at intervals before the update too when there hasn't been any processies going on, but considerably less often.
I could allways be wrong about the cause as I have two Radeon 5500 graphics cards on system but as I updated those drivers today to no avail, so I doupt it. Offcorse it could be million other things too but hard drive writing really suggests processor drivers.

Apparently the CPU has been overclocked, but tends to revert back to AMD Phenom II X3 720 from time to time. The CPU is inserted in the ASRock N68-VS3 UCC motherboard. Does it reverting back means that the overclocking procedure is somewhat unstable or is it just a graphic glitch? Also, how better is a AMD Phenom II X3 720 to an AMD Phenom II X4 20 both @ 2.8 GHz?

On idle I normally have temps of 30-38 and when I'm gaming (GTA IV, LFD, COD MW2, BLACK OPS etc) I only hit 50, but when I was playing GTA IV, I finished playing and checked my temps and core temp said I hit 112 Celsius, however I didn't hear the computer get noisy or anything. I was wondering if this is legit or just a false temp because I've heard a few bad things about core temp.
When I use prime95 and other tools I only hit like 50 D:

I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem I have with a laptop not booting into Windows 7. The booting process hangs at the point where the mouse pointer appears, just before the welcome and logon screen. I am able to get the machine to boot by using the Last Known Good boot option, but on the next boot, it reverts back to its bad behaviour.
I can boot into safe mode. But disabling all services and startup items in msconfig does not make the problem go away. I've run a Malwarebytes scan, which detected a pup called iLivid which I removed and uninstalled. I also did a Dr. Web scan, which found and removed 1 additional problem file.
I exported the same registry control set before and after rebooting like this: I looked at HKLM/Select to find the "current" set and exported it to current.reg. Then restarted, let the boot fail, restarted using Last Known Good, then exported the "failed" set to current2.reg, which was the same set (002) as the previous "current". These files are about 15k each, so I have not pasted or attached them. I'm using Windiff to compare them, but can't find a way to export a "change" file to post here. What is interesting to me is that the failed file is smaller by 4%, so stuff has been deleted.
