I have made settings to save downloaded files to a folder called C:Junk. This folder is now invisible in most of my software. If I look at the properties of this folder, it displays the name "Downloads" and has an icon with a yellow folder with a large blue arrow.

On it there's an invisible folder, Boot, that contains a bunch of language folders, and a few additional files: BCD, BCD.LOG, BCD.LOG1, BCD.LOG2, BOOTSTAT.DAT, memtest.exe. The dates of these folders hasn't changed since May, which I suppose might've been when I installed Windows for the final time. So, what is this folder? Is it safe to delete? Did it have something to do with the hardware raid setup I used earlier? The motherboard is an ASUS P8P67 Pro.

2.Subsequently I made the locker invisible using "Folder Protect" software.
3.When I was trying to add more files to the locker created in 1 the locker tried to "increase it's size on the run"...
4.This process failed and "Folder Lock" shut down and since then I cannot locate the locker anymore on my PC nor can I see it in "Folder Protect"
5.Having read on a forum, I uninstalled "Folder Protect" and reinstalled...but that did not help..I still could not find the Locker.
6.I even uninstalled and reinstalled "Folder Lock"...even this did not help
7.I understand the lockers created by "Folder Lock" are UNDELETABLE.
8.Clearly my locker is somewhere on my hard disk but I am unable to locate it.
I have an external hdd that is not recognized by only one of my 3 PCs.I have tried going through control panel>admin tools>computer mgt>storage>disk mgt as well as hardware devices route and the PC still cannot see the HDD.I have tried other ext hdd's with this PC and it sees them with no problem
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I download a PDF file to my Win 7 desktop (or create a new pdf document and save it to my desktop), the file is not visible. If I navigate to the desktop directory through windows explorer I can then see the file, but it is not visible on the desktop itself. So the file is there, but invisible. My default viewer is adobe reader.This "might" have started when I upgraded from Adobe Reader 9.4 to the new "X" version or may have been prior to that. In any case, I uninstalled "X" and went back to 9.4 and the problem still persists.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 6 (2 internal, 4 external) hard drives, 2 CD DVD drives and one of those drives that read every kind of media card.
My external drives don't show in Widows Explorer unless they are turned on and they are always off unless I'm using them. So it normally shows my 2 internal drives and my DVD drives, but the media card reader shows up as 5 Removable Media Drives.
It there a way to make the media card reader not show unless I put a card in it.
It would clean up the view a lot to get rid of these 5 drives displaying all the time. I'd like to see only my 2 internal drives and my DVD drives. When I have all my external drives turned on and my USB stick plugged in it's just too much!
I have a problem with running Windows 7 (RC, 7100 i think) and XP on the same machine:
I previously had 2 XP installations - one on the C drive for general useage and one on another drive for audio recording (both are SATA) My C drive XP has been slow and rubbish for a while and so I thought I would reinstall windows on that drive, which I've done before a few times. Then I thought I'd like to try Windows 7 so I installed that. During the installation I formatted the C drive (looking back on it maybe not so clever - there was no data I needed on there but maybe I deleted important files?) and installed 7 on there.
Now, my problem is that I can boot into windows 7 fine, but I am having real difficulty in getting XP to work, due to various things. I have used easyBCD to try and sort out my OS choice at startup, as per some walkthroughs on this forum. When I reboot I have a strange problem where I cant see the screen where I choose the OS, but I know its there because the computer waits for a bit, unless I press enter (to choose windows 7) or down and enter (to choose XP) - so its there but not being displayed on screen.
That's not such a problem, but when I choose XP from the OS select (or what I assume is XP given that I can't see it) the computer just restarts right from the beginning. There was no ntldr in the D drive (where the XP installation is) so i copied it from the XP installation disk.
Also, when I used to be able to get into the 'Studio' XP installation, it thought the D: drive was the I: drive, if you see what I mean..
Just migrated from XP to Win 7 and my CD/DVD drive is no longer visible.It is seen in the device manager list.

Since setup screen it recognized only 3 of 5 disk drive (all of same HDD).Before that I resized two of the drives with `EASEUS Partition Master 8.0.1 Home Edition` but I did so for the drives he actually recognized. (I accessed those drives through another OS which is installed on another HDD).It would see them in disc management but it can`t assign drive letter, it says : Disk Management Console view is not up-to-date... even the program can`t assign letter ot mess with the size of the drives

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is a problem that has been plaguing me for a while, notably on Core Temp and some pop-up windows on Google Chrome.What would happen is, for example, I'd go to a livestream channel page and try to pop-out the chat. The window would do the maximizing animation (titlebar moving to the top of the screen) but there'd be no window. Minimizing and restoring the window would prove the same results. Other pop-ups, such as popping out the actual stream would load a window perfectly.This problem also replicates itself with the program Core Temp. Reinstalling both programs fixed the problem temporarily.

The option button is also missing.The machine is a Toshiba laptop, with all update functions active, ie drivers should all be up-to-date. I'm running Windows 7 64 Home Premium SP1.I tried switching off aero, but that did nothing. Changing resolution and graphics settings also did nothing for me.

View 7 Replies View RelatedToday I awoke to a notification from a HP Diagnostic Test. This is a monthly test done and it stated that a few items failed. Those being Random Seek Test, Funnel Seek Test, Surface Scan Test. I got a Seagate GoFlex Portable 1TB drive for Christmas and that was put into use since Christmas. It has been fully operational from the word go. That is, until today after HP did it's diagnostics. Also, the contents of my recycle bin are now hidden. If I delete something. Nothing is shown in the recycle bin, but it will let me delete and clear that hidden item. I'm not a fan of HP as I find them very intrusive and "evil." This PC is almost 2 years old and running Windows 7 64 bit OS.

They can still be accessed from other places, like the task bar and shortcuts, at least most of them. I would show a picture, but I can't access Paint. The only things that remain are Mahjong, Chess, Solitaire, Purble Place and Magnifier in the main menu and under All Programs: IE, some accessories (not including paint), McAfee, Google Chrome, The startup folder, and WinRAR.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have set my Downloads folder to be on a second drive. by right clicking Downloads folder then selecting properties/location/"new location which I changed to F" clicked yes to move all associated files. it has been working for a few days now all well and good. earlier I went to download a image and when I right clicked the image and selected save as, a window appears where your able to choose a destination. The destination I wanted was already there as usual which is "F/Downloads" what caught my attention was within that window it usually shows all the pictures that I have in my Downloads folder but only one of them was there. I clicked save and the image saved. I navigated to my Downloads folder on my F drive and the image was not there. All the rest of the images I previously downloaded was, even the only one that showed up in the "save to destination window" not sure of the proper name. I tried to download another picture and when I right clicked it and selected save as the "save to destination" window opened and showed the same single image as before and also the 1 previous download picture. Scratching my head I double checked the destination, destination correct F/Downloads. I click save, and navigate my way to F/Downloads and neither of the two pictures are there.On my F drive I only have 1 Downloads folder. So where are these pictures that are not showing up in the folder but yet showing up in the "save to destination" window? That is addressed as F/Downloads.

In any case, the download manager keeps popping up (for no reason apparent to me) with a file to download (looks like the latest one I downloaded) and the Folder is the one I deleted. View 1 Replies View RelatedIssue #1: All of a sudden, I couldn't print .pdf files (various adobe error messages in different browsers, or messages telling me I hadn't selected a print range - yes I did!).
Issue #2. I followed some advice and uninstalled Adobe Reader, then tried to re-install it. I can't re-install it. When I try to re-install using Internet Explorer, I get the first two dialogue boxes where I checked "run," but the third dialog box I am supposed to get, according to Adobe, never pops up - the one that is suposed to ask me if I want to grant permission). I temporarily disabled my software security and tried again, but the third box never comes up. The adobe instruction page just sits there - no signs of life, download activity, brainwave activity, etc.
Issue #3. I followed more advice and tried to install Adobe Reader using a different browser - Mozilla. Just for fun, the issues are different this browser - still can't download, but this browser tells me "unable to write to temp. directory C:usersmynameappDatalocalmp29061 error = 3 = > The system cannot find the path specified" It tells me to change my permissions, or save elsewhere. It never gives me the opportunity of a choice to save it elsewhere, and I can't get access to the folder to change permissions. I can't find it, after getting advice on how to find it. It's just not there! I am the administrator of this home computer.
Issue #4: In the meantime, I had placed a call to Adobe's help desk. They called back and told me to first install Google Chrome, which is more compatible with newer versions of Adobe Reader.
Issue #5: When trying to install Google chrome, I went through the same download problesm as under Issue #2 and issue #3. I found a version of Google chrome already downloaded on my computer, however, and launched it.
Issue #6 I tried to download Adobe Reader now using Google Chrome. Nope, same issues as before. I spent lots of time trying to get find and/or get access to temp file. Can't find it to change permissions on it .
Issue #7 I am minutes away from throwing pc into a snowbank and running over it with my car. Multiple times.
My Windows 7 configuration is relatively bullet proof (ha ha, nervous laughter).My OS and programs are on C, which I image using RDriveImage every month after Patch Tuesday.My data is on software-mirrored D/F drives.So as long as I don't have a catastrophic event affecting my computer, a routine "drive failure" should be recoverable, with the worst-case being I'd be out a month of updates, but with a good recent image of the OS drive.Anyway, I was recently looking at my event viewer and I have "Disk errors" that occur whenever I run a full image of C.

There were two errors in February (none before that), three in March, four each in May and July.In April and June I did incremental images, so the "bad" area wasn't imaged, so no error.With all the above as background, what's the safest way for me to isolate and/or repair the area(s) of the disk with the errors?The errors are always logged within 1-2 seconds of each other, so I suspect it's just one bad area.And I have never, ever, seen signs of a disk error. No BSOD, no clicking noises, no impaired performance, even for a moment.
The win 7 start menu download folder item on the right sorts by name. This is very annoying. I cannot find a download unless I know its name. If by date I just look up a recent download at top of list. How do I change behavior so downloads in start menu (right column) sorts by date? I changed the folder properties in explorer so the download folder sorts by date. It does there no problem. But not in the start menu.
