My desktop click-and-drag selecter has turned invisible with black and white borders, it used to be blue. I know this isn't a major issue but i would like to get it fixed. It occurred after running a maintenance with IObit's Advanced System Care which removed junk files, broken shortcuts, etc. How do I get it back to normal?
Most often, although it is intermittent, I have to click twice to get the cursor to drag a scroll bar or activate a button. This is a new problem and is an issue when surfing the web and in Windows Live Mail and other programs.
I recently got a new computer at work with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010. I'm having issues in both Excel and Outlook when I try to drag and drop an item, instead of just dropping when I take my finger off of the mouse button, I'm having to click a second time on the mouse to get it to drop the item. I have googled this problem and tried multiple things to trouble shoot without success. It is driving me crazy!I have downloaded new mouse softwareTried another mouseUndocked and tried with touchpadrebootedChecked settings in Excel and drag and drop is enabled.
Few days ago i am able to drag and drop any icon on desktop also file to desktop, but next morning i start my laptop i was unable to drag and drop any icon on desktop also file to desktop.I tried many method but all failed.
i using WIN 7 home premium X64bit HP 431 intel core i5 2gb ram also my setting in desktop/view/auto arrange is off in context menu the drag and drop setting is on
When I download a PDF file to my Win 7 desktop (or create a new pdf document and save it to my desktop), the file is not visible. If I navigate to the desktop directory through windows explorer I can then see the file, but it is not visible on the desktop itself. So the file is there, but invisible. My default viewer is adobe reader. This "might" have started when I upgraded from Adobe Reader 9.4 to the new "X" version or may have been prior to that. In any case, I uninstalled "X" and went back to 9.4 and the problem still persists.
I'm just wondering if there is a way to make the desktop icons not show trough the transparent top border of an application? I like my wallpaper to show through it, but not my icons.
for the last few weeks whenever i left click on the desktop it brings the right click menu. this dosen't happen in the browser (firefox), but only in the windows desktop and start menu. however i the browser if i am on a web player like Internet, the portion that displays the video fails to display my cursor. as a result i am not able to control the video settings in the browser.
This has been happening for a while now whats happening is i would drag something to the desktop and it wouldn't show but when i go to Start>Computer>Desktop it shows it in the folder but not actually on the desktop
My desktop view has some folders and Icons on the Desktop which I use and I cannot re-arrange and move them as stay fixed dotted all over my screen view or delete files on desktop in any method like drop and drag to recycle bin all seems frozen then I sometimes turn PC on and everything on desktops frozen then I reboot and can use but the icons remain fixed and unmovable in tradition drop and drag as you can grab but go straight back to the desktop positions.
At some point I noticed that all of my desktop icons had lost their individual picture (graphics) and instead all of them had the Notepad graphic symbol. When I clicked any icon it opened up a Notepad page with some recognizable words as well as other letters and characters (gibberish). Then when I tried to click on other programs in "All Programs", the same thing happened. I tried safe mode and it was the same there. I called for tech help and was told it probably was a virus. I then did a total System Recovery back to Factory Settings.
im using "turn off display: 1 min" setting on my power option.
after several minutes away, when i come and i "press any key" to my computer, the display turned back on, but the desktop freezes.
i can only move my mouse but i cant right or left click to my desktop. i usually wait for like 40 - 60 secs for my desktop to be responding again.
is there something wrong with my computer? cos i am doing fresh install, and didnt modify any settings yet.
i hereby conclude what makes my desktop freezes is when i checked on "auto-hide the taskbar" setting on taskbar properties and used "turn off display after" setting.
so, these are things that might happen:
1. i disabled "auto-hide the taskbar" and disabled "turn off display after"
with / without any open programs
result: desktop fine
2. i enabled "auto-hide the taskbar" and disabled "turn off display after"
with / without any open programs
result: desktop fine
3. i disabled "auto-hide the taskbar" and enabled "turn off display after"
with / without any open programs
result: desktop fine
4. i enabled "auto-hide the taskbar" and enabled "turn off display after" with a/some open program(s)
result: desktop fine
5. i enabled "auto-hide the taskbar" and enabled "turn off display after" without any open programs
result: desktop freezes
PS.
i havent installed the latest display driver yet. i only now have the Ati Mobility Radeon X1400 from Windows Update, the latest one. i cant find the actual driver for my video card from my manufacturer's site.
I have an odd thing happening. Most my icons themselves have all gone transparent. I have a screenshot at [URL]. Before it happen, I had a virus warning. I closed what I was working on and ran Malware and Vast which found a couple things. I ran Malware a second time which then came back clean. I noticed that when I click on my computer that the list of shortcuts in the left column under favorites all my shortcuts under favorites are missing including Desktop, although it shows up on the field on the right side (transparent also). Most all my other icons are now completely transparent.

i recently got an update from microsoft on win 7, and immediately after it had finished updating i had no sound in any application (aim, skype, chrome, firefox, Internet, etc.). this has happened before, and i ran microsoft's sound problems wizard and it always said that an option had been clicked off and that it had restored it.this time when i ran the wizard it says it detects no problems. i am sure it is the software, as it happens a lot with ms updates. will downloadi can't go back to a previous configuration, i don't have one to go to
I have a Dell Inspiron 14z with i5 processor, windows 7 64 bit (hopefully that's enough information)
I've been having problems right or left clicking on my desktop icons (the ACTUAL icons). Strangely enough, my start menu and task bar work fine and I can right click on the desktop but not on the actual icons. Also, my dell gadgets work fine.
It seems as if someone placed a window over my icons and I can't click them at all. I know it's a minor thing but it's a bit inconvenient at times.
Here are some things I tried so far: apparently there was a IE-related desktop problem so I disabled all my IE9 addons -nothing changed
Using the task manager, I shut down explorer.exe and restarted it; still can't click on the icons -note: when i shut down explorer.exe (my icons looked the same, and an "image" of my task bar was still there - showing that I had chrome and iTunes open but at that moment I wasn't using those applications.)
I have a dell inspiron laptop n5110 and just this morning it boots up fine but when I press administrator to click onto the desktop nothing happens it won't load nothing...I've restarted it a couple times and still the same thing.
sometimes my desktop freeze, i can't right or left click on anything, only the Taskbar is running, after searching for a solution i found that i can fix it temporarily by opening task manager and end "explorer.exe" process and then begin a new task for it....it was fixed but the problem repeatedso i need a permanent solution for this bug.
When I right-click on the desktop it takes forever just to load the right-click menu. The desktop freezes but other applications works fine (i.e. WLM, Chrome). I tried Googling but can't find what I wanted. I found a similar problem, but it was from 2009 involving NVIDIA graphic driver problem. --> This. On a side note, my NVIDIA Control Panel also can't execute. Does this have any connection with my problem? I last updated the drivers with this.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, Intel i5, NVIDA GeForce GT230M, 4GB RAM.
I've been looking for a way to solve this problem but I've haven't found anything.. When ever i right click on a icon on my desktop (games, firefox, etc) a quick error box pops up and quickly goes away, so i don't actually have a chance to see the error and the menu that normaly comes up when right clicking doesn't open. But when i right click on the background, the menu pops up no problem..
I did a clean install of Win 7 32bit last week and I am facing this issue once in a while. The desktop icons can't be used I can't click or select any icon, also right click of the mouse doesn't work. I can right click on the taskbar or in windows explorer but not on the desktop. Even show desktop icon doesn't work when the above happens. There is no specific time when this happens or it doesn't happen after running a particular program so I can't figure out what is the reason for this random fault.
When right clicking on the desktop. You can Create a new Folder, Enter the Nvidia Control Panel (and I do often), go to personalize, and something else I do often. "Refresh" I right click and do refresh all the time. It's a bad habit I started in XP.
Basically When I first loaded 7.. it seemed fine. I installed a bunch of drivers, so I'm not sure what one did it. But now when I right click while I'm on the desktop. It takes a solid 3 or so seconds to pop-up.. that is WAY to slow. Vista it was instant.. and Windows 7 was at first also.
Everything else seems speedy. Starting from Shutdown.. opening programs. Everything is pretty speedy. But the right click feature I use often. It's really slow.
Also, when I right click on Taskbar, or any of the desktop icons, it's super Fast. only the right click on the actual desktop.
I think I might go back to WHQL Nvidia driver instead of the BETA for 7. that is what I think I'll try first.
my computer loads fine but once i open a window and i go to click on it, it goes into the background and i cant use then program. I can use the taskbar and my computer loads things, for a while it has been getting slower but i cant update my anti virus definitions to run it?
if I open a folder and r/click any file (to send it to another disk), I get a message saying that Explorer has stopped working and then it is restarting. This happens every time I try this. It restarts OK every time but never tells me why it crashed. When I go to do a System restore, it cannot complete the restore as it says a file cannot be accessed and that maybe an Anti-virus is running. I have disabled A/V and Firewall, both in Norton Internet Security which I only installed yesterday. All was working OK until later today, when I noticed that Windows 7 had installed 3 critical updates and I'm thinking that one or both are the cause? These were KB973924 x 2 and KB972696.
When have to right click on desktop and Windows explorer I get the message "Windows Explorer has stopped Working" Restarting Windows explorer. This makes it difficult to do anything that requires a right click.
Windows 7 was not functioning well, so it was re-installed using restore option, then MS Office 2007 was installed, but then on right clicking the desktop, in the new option ms office 2007 programs are not visible, but folder is visible.... whereas those programs are visible in start menu.
