It seems after hours of searching, I've learned that there's a problem with using XP Mode with AMD Bulldozer-based CPUs, like my FX-4170 (lucky me.) Microsoft has a hotfix, url...but after running it "successfully," XP Mode still will not install properly--I get an error message right at the end of the install process. I also ran Microsoft's virtualization checker, and my machine checks out as compatible.

I have checked that the processor etc is OK with XP Mode so everything should be fine. However after I have downloaded the upgrade file from the Microsoft web site and run it there is no sign of XP MOde other than in Control Panel it is listed as a program and there is also a folder in program files called Windows XP Mode.
What do I need to do to get the XP Mode up and running?
I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit in bootcamp on a MacBook Pro 13". I installed XP mode but the version that installed was XP 64 bit. I would like to install XP mode 32 bit so I can run Splinter Cell and a few other older games. Is there a way to load XP mode 32 bit under Windows 7 64 bit Pro?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk so I think one of my buddies messed up my windows vista cuz it will not boot windows anymore it goes to launch repair windows or launch windows normally. I tried launching repair but nothing happens same with launch windows normally. So I got a windows 7 install cd and I pressed f8 and windows loads files then I see the windows 7 logo saying starting windows but after that it goes to a black screen with the mouse on the screen. And it stays on that screen. I don't have the cd that came with my laptop, is there anything I can do to get windows running again?

I'm using a multi-user Trend Titanium Maximum Security 64-bit version on windows 7 and have tried to install the second copy from the xp mode as per the instructions that I am following. Due to the xp mode being a 32-bit system I tried loading the 32-bit Trend version but the install failed with a "incompatiable version of internet explorer" error message. Therefore due I load from the xp mode or thru the virual machine and/or install the 64-bit version for xp mode. I do have Internet Explorer access when in the xp mode.

But I found solution to install Windows 7 in vga mode and it worked. Then again I put my graphics card and started win 7. It automatically installed vga driver and asked me to restart before I install ati catalyst driver from cd. After restarting when black screen comes before "win 7 welcome screen" it freezes with mouse pointer. It only starts in vga mode or safe mode. By the way I have win xp as well in c drive nad installed win 7 in h drive.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my 320 Gb HDD and everything is running ok. I just bought a WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA III disk and I want to install Windows 7 there, since the disk is faster. Here's what happens. When I connect the disk (it is connected GSATA 3 connectors), the disk will be recognized in bios and in Windows, but wont show under My Computer. I figured it must be some software bug so I formatted the disk in diskpart (clean format) and installed Windows 7 on it. At that time the GSATA 3 interface was set to IDE mode. It ran fine but after installing a big batch of Windows updates, the system hung at windows startup screen. After restoring the system to a previous state (i.e. before the updates), the system booted up normally.
I didn't know what was wrong so I formatted again, and this time I set the GSATA 3 to AHCI mode, since I realized this is a better option. When installing in AHCI mode, the computer expands the windows files but when the system is restarted, I get a BSOD (code Stop 0x000000B4 video driver failed to initialize) at Setup is updating registry settings. I really want to use the AHCI mode, but I cant get the system to work in IDE either so its really a bugger. I have no idea what could be causing this as the system works fine when using the other disk. Can the BSOD be caused by the HDD? Anyway, I really want to start using the disk. I have tried installing Windows 7 from a dvd as well as from a USB key.

I cannot find out why my Windows 7 install only has two options: "Start Recovery Console/Mode?" and "Start Windows Normally"... Where is safe mode.

Windows will install then it restarts and goes to the starting windows screen, turns black then restarts asks how I want to start windows. The computer seems to be getting slower as the day goes on. CPU usage is very high.So far, I have disabled many startup items that were unnecessary. I ran CCleaner and cleaned up. MBAM was run in both normal and safe mode, full scans, and found nothing. This is also posted in Viruses and Malware, but I'm unsure where it should live.

This is fine since we are still using XP and actually this is the reason we are using XP.I have setup a test computer with Windows 7 and XP mode and have published the link for Siebel to Windows 7 so I can just launch it from the desktop. Great!!! The issue that i am having is that we are in the middle of developing a replacement for Siebel, and this requires us to move our data to Sharepoint 2010. Within Siebel we have always used a link that opens a webpage to customer purchase history that is hosted in Sharepoint. With moving to Sharepoint 2010 IE6 is no longer supported, we will need IE7 or above.y question is, when i click on that link located within the Siebel IE6 window, how can i get it to launch in the brower in windows 7, and not in IE6 XP mode? So I closed it, but then the cursor started spinning and I could not access anything on my computer so I rebooted and it started up but then just trying to open Microsoft Word caused the cursor to keep spinning again and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted and this time it was spinning from the beginning. So I again rebooted and turned it on in safe mode and everything was fine. Then turned it off and left it off overnight. In the morning I tried to boot in normal mode and it did boot but it was again spinning and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted in safe mode and I can use my computer fine.And also, this is unrelated, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to do to make the scroll bar stop moving on its own? Every time I scroll down a page it seems to lock the scroll bar and so when I move the cursor away from the scroll bar, the scroll bar still moves and I cannot click any links or anything on that webpage.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI own an HP G-62-347 Notebook, Windows 7 64 bit, Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Firewall, no other real time AV, no other Firewalls, Windows Defender disabled as Microsoft instrucs for MSE, 3 GB Raam, 313 GB HDD, AMD Dual Core P-380 processor.My Laptop began freezing 8-10 minutes after bootup logon. No matter what I was doing, Media, Excell, Word, it would freeze up and hang. Sometimes CTL_ALT_DLT would unfreeze it, even before the task manager appeared, but it will take 3-4 minutes with an o[ague screen and the progress "circle" moving then unfreeze, sork 1-2 minutes, freeze, etc. Then all clicks on something to activate would result in loooong (long) delays, 15 to 45 seconds, then the new screen or window or peogram would open, sometimes frozen up.This did not happen in safe mode.I have (on suggestions) removed all things from my start up or programs that other's have suggested, Google Update files, and three or four others that others had issues with that I found on the net. I have also removed programs that I had installed around then.
I have also run, in Safe Mode, MSE, MS Safety Scanner, MS malicious file remover, ESET online Scanner, my laptop is clean.I have used mscong to disable all non-microsoft items to see if that helped. It did not. Same issues.I have used startup repair, and after scanning received a message that there was a problem, but that it could not fix it, did I want to send a report to Microsoft, I checked yes and it sent me to System Restore, ran it for about a week ago which was when I had downloaded some software, and the problem still existed, which sent me back to System Repair, ran it, same error message, reported again.I used a Repair Disk to get back on the laptop a coulple of times when needed, but ultimately, the problem surfaced still.I have used ReImage Plus to rebuild all my defective Windows Files and a lot of my 3rd party defective files. And, I also did a Win 7 repair install.I am pretty convinced something is being loaded somewhere, but can't find where or who or what.Am I on the right track? Have I missed something? Am I wrong? I do not really want to do a clean re-install of Windows 7, for if I do I am reformatting everything to clean any and everything.... sort of NUKE it... but would rather find the culprit (for education purposes). And, I dislike installing and updating and setting up everything again more than I hate "boiled okra!"Anyone and Everyone that has had to do with this or similar sounding issue, please reply. I have been getting BSOD errors whenever booting into regular mode. Safe mode is fine (I have tweaked the registry so I have sound in safe mode) My system specs are in my profile, but used Winaudit for full specs. The winaudit report in formatted text is too big for an attachment. I have 2 attachments to this post, including zipped up minidumps. Could my registry tweak for sound have something to do with this? Perfmon /report was run, but it says:
An error occured while attempting to generate the report. The system cannot find the path specified.
My laptop hangs up/ freeze in normal mode. Now I can only open it on safe mode. I was only copy pasting some files couple days ago when it happened. I have to hold the power button to turn it off. I already tried system restore and reformatted it twice. I'm using HP Pavilion dm4-1160us, windows 7 64-bit.
