Nov 14, 2011

XP Mode Won't Run XP Program?

Sep 27, 2011

I have an Asus P8Z68-V, i7-2600K, Crucial 256 GB SSD, 8GB Gskill 2133 DDR3, Radeon HD 5670, OCZ ModXStream 600 power supply and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I downloaded XP Mode to run two old programs that run fine on several native XP Pro 32-bit SP3 installations (including this Z68). The two programs I need are a 1991 DOS program that runs without problem in W7 Professional XP Mode, and the other is an XP vintage program that will not install in XP Mode.I have also cloned the W7 Pro build from the Crucial 256 GB SSD to a Western Digital 1 TB black drive. Both drives work identically (except for speed). The XP era software refuses to install on the SSD or the hard drive. When I try to install the XP era program on the Crucial SSD (BIOS setting AHCI), or the Western DIgital (BIOS setting IDE) the result is the same. I get the following error:[CODE]

Run A Program In 32-bit Compatability Mode?

Oct 14, 2011

So I was in the mood to run a simple old game. One of the old Exile RPGs made by Spiderweb Software. I found there site, downloaded the game, but naturally I couldn't run it because they didn't have a version that worked on my 64bit system. But they had a page with solutions to this problem and they said, "Just run it on compatibility mode." According to the instructions I just had to open the game with that mode by opening through the start menu or some such nonsense... but I can't even install the game so I can't open it through the start menu.

Run The Program In WoW64 Mode?

Oct 6, 2010

I have developed a number of websites using Microsoft Access and Classic ASP. When I got my new Windows 7 machine I found that I was no longer able to develop on my local machine as I have in the past because it is 64 bit and Access us 32 bit. This is a bit of a disaster for me, as I need to be able to support these website.I have read that a workaround is the run the program in WoW64 mode. I do not actually know what this means, nor how to implement it. Can anyone tell me what I can do to continue supporting these websites?I have always been able to work locally then upload my work, but since I am told that the error message I am getting ("ADODB.Command error '800a0e7a' Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.") indicates that there is this incompatibility, is there any way I can work around this, or was moving up to Windows 7 just a large blunder for me?

Uninstall A Program From XP Mode And Run It In Windows 7 Only?

Sep 6, 2011

I have Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. I have a retail management program that I began running in XP Mode because of hardware compatibility in Windows 7 with the receipt printer, card scanner, etc. I have recently purchased new hardware that is Windows 7 compatible and need to now move from the XP Mode environment to only Windows 7. My software vendor will not provide support as long as I'm running the software in XP Mode and we, unfortunately are in need of their support at the moment. I am just wanting to verify that all I need to do is to uninstall the software while in XP Mode from the Control Panel - after I back up the database of course - and then simply install the software in Windows 7. Is that correct? Will I also need to uninstall the virtual machine since the retail software is the only program we were utilizing the VM for?

Installing XP Mode In Windows 7

Jan 19, 2013

It seems after hours of searching, I've learned that there's a problem with using XP Mode with AMD Bulldozer-based CPUs, like my FX-4170 (lucky me.) Microsoft has a hotfix, url...but after running it "successfully," XP Mode still will not install properly--I get an error message right at the end of the install process. I also ran Microsoft's virtualization checker, and my machine checks out as compatible.

Installing To Program Files (x86)?

Feb 25, 2011

Why do some programs which I download try to install to Program Files as is the norm, and others try to install to Program Files (x86), if they're all compatible with Win7 x64, and some are even specific to Win7 x64?Is there any harm in deleting the (x86) from the attempted destination folder when I download, so that I don't have two folders for my downloaded programs?

I went to the Epson website and got the x32 bit drivers and downloaded both the printer and scanner driver. The thing is though when I try to install them I get a message saying that I need to install the printer driver manually but I don't know what port it should go in.

I'm using a multi-user Trend Titanium Maximum Security 64-bit version on windows 7 and have tried to install the second copy from the xp mode as per the instructions that I am following. Due to the xp mode being a 32-bit system I tried loading the 32-bit Trend version but the install failed with a "incompatiable version of internet explorer" error message. Therefore due I load from the xp mode or thru the virual machine and/or install the 64-bit version for xp mode. I do have Internet Explorer access when in the xp mode.

BSOD When Installing Windows 7 In AHCI Mode

Jan 24, 2011

First thing, my build:
Board: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4
CPU: Core i7 870 @ 2,93 Ghz
Graphic: Sapphire AMD Radeon 8670 Mushkin 2x2Gb Red Culvert Kit @ 1600Mhz CAS 6-7-7-18
Seagate 320 GB SATA II HDD + WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA III HDD
Running: Windows 7 Ultimate
Trying to install: Windows 7 Ultimate
PSU: LC Power Arkangel 850W

I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my 320 Gb HDD and everything is running ok. I just bought a WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA III disk and I want to install Windows 7 there, since the disk is faster. Here's what happens. When I connect the disk (it is connected GSATA 3 connectors), the disk will be recognized in bios and in Windows, but wont show under My Computer. I figured it must be some software bug so I formatted the disk in diskpart (clean format) and installed Windows 7 on it. At that time the GSATA 3 interface was set to IDE mode. It ran fine but after installing a big batch of Windows updates, the system hung at windows startup screen. After restoring the system to a previous state (i.e. before the updates), the system booted up normally.

I didn't know what was wrong so I formatted again, and this time I set the GSATA 3 to AHCI mode, since I realized this is a better option. When installing in AHCI mode, the computer expands the windows files but when the system is restarted, I get a BSOD (code Stop 0x000000B4 video driver failed to initialize) at Setup is updating registry settings. I really want to use the AHCI mode, but I cant get the system to work in IDE either so its really a bugger. I have no idea what could be causing this as the system works fine when using the other disk. Can the BSOD be caused by the HDD? Anyway, I really want to start using the disk. I have tried installing Windows 7 from a dvd as well as from a USB key.

Registry Entries Keeping From Installing Program

May 24, 2012

I have a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro 32 bit and all my software is installed and working well except for one. Following a problem with the initial install attempt, I'm trying to re-install LotusSuite 9.8.2 but the previous attempt seems to have resulted in some "Lotus" registry entries that now direct things to a non-existent "F" drive. When I try to re-install from the CD, it doesn't allow me the option of choosing the destination location. Instead, it automatically tries to install in this non-existent drive. I've opened RegEdit and searched and found many references to Lotus and to F:Lotus.

How can I edit the registry to get rid of the F:Lotus entries or change them to C: ? Or just get rid of all references to Lotus? BTW, this software works perfectly on my Win 7 laptop.
