i currently have a 750gb drive w/ OS, everything on it. if i reinstall windows 7 on my SSD will it turn the OS on the 750gb to a windows.old?
i really would like to keep the data on the 750gb and just get rid of the OS on it.
how can i recover the lost data by crashing hard disk ,and after installing window 2 times
View 4 Replies View RelatedAs SSDs are undoubtedly the way to go for the OS and booting, I am curious how one can configure Windows 7 to install on C: yet save all user data on D: (which is where the 2TB drive is). The main reason being the space is limited on C (SSD is only 90GB) and the media structure of the user library with videos, documents, etc can easily span hundreds of gigs.Is the only way to do this to manually change the user location to D:? If so, how is this done?I'll be building a number of systems soon and want to have some sort of C: boot D: user data standard which falls within the management of the traditional Windows 7 Library structure.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got my 500gb laptop hdd partitioned with majority on d data partition (have not installed anything ever to d - only c). I do have my user folders relocated to the d part. Where should I install or set up game directory for my d partition? (Current game I'm installing is recommending c/prog files(x86)/published/game title) should I just change c: to d: even though those folders don't exist, installation will create them? Are steam games installed to different path normally than x/program files. How might future steam game installs affect where/what directory folders? Any program for remapping or whatever would be needed to use an xbox 360 controller for pc games?

today i install windows XP- install audio driver then i open my G DRIVE (my songs drive) to check audio. it was empty then i check its properies it shows.
USED 11 GB
FREE 20 GB
as usual but it was empty
then i check disk G DRIVE for errors & then reinstall xp on formating C drive
after setup windows second time i open G DRIVE. it was still empty but when i see its properties it says:-
USED 0 BYTE
FREE 0 BYTE
CAPACITY 0 BYTE
PLZ HELP ME TO RECOVER MY DATA.
I AM ATTATCHING ITS PROPERTIES.
When the final version of Windows 7 is released I am going to install the Windows 7 operating system to my C drive and put my data on a separate physical D drive. I am going to put the temporary Internet files and the Windows temporary files folders on that D drive. What user folders would anyone suggests go to the D drive and what other data and/or folders would anyone suggest to go on the D drive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've been using my 64GB ssd as my windows 7 boot drive and i have a 1TB hdd as my data drive. Recently the my computer has begun to freeze up with errors like "explorer.exe" has stopped responding or "windows" has stopped responding and half of the time when i try to boot it says it cant find windows. This has lead me to believe that my ssd is dying despite being only a year old. I need to RMA my ssd but to do that i would be losing my boot drive for weeks. So I thought id try to create a system image so that i can simply put my boot drive on my hdd, but when i try to create the image it says that the image would be 711GB because its including all of my hdd (which contains all my user libraries and downloads). My question is: how do I make windows stop thinking that my hdd is a system drive so that I can create a reasonably sized image, or more generally: how can i easily move my boot drive to my hdd? Also, I've read some posts about using "easyBCD" to accomplish the latter but I'm not sure that's exactly what i need in this situation.

I have heard that you can ghost a file on the data drive into the x86 folder so that all new installs go there and then you still recieve most of the benefits of your ssd w/o clogging it up. I would like to use this drive and it's file data in an external drive case (SATA) connected to my notebook.
Will the notebook handle the external drive properly?
I have tried installing on 1 stick of ram, the old HDD is unplugged, have deleted the partitions, running bios in AHCI mode using 6gb/sec cable, when I look in the drive some windows files have been copied onto the SSD and it is accessable. It is a Corsair Force series 3 120Gb.

I know how to migrate the address book from OE6 to Windows Mail but I can't seem to find the actual EMail folders in Win-7, Windows Mail. In OE6 they are *.dbx files and are easy to find, copy and migrate to the new PC. Now I have a friend who is running Vista with Windows Mail but he hates Vista and wants me to install Windows 7 for him. I have no problem activating Windows Mail in Win-7, but he'll want his old email folders and I don't know how and where to find them?

There are some apps on the old drive (Photoshop 6.0) which still run & I'd like to use them. It stated that "many programs and operating systems are set up to perform data logging of usage". View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer crashed and I am unable to get windows to start it goes all the way to the login screen but never loads so that i can type my password it just keeps trying to load. anyways Ive tried all the other routes to repair and no luck now im at the point where I would just prefer to do a new install, but I cant access my important work related files to back them up onto an external HD. I have my Windows 7 disk that I made when I got my computer new.I put that in and boot from the disk I brings me to the partition menu with no upgrade option (I think that is the option I need in order to create the Windows old folder?) So my question is If I format the System Partition and reinstall windows on that partition will my data on the data partition be effected? or will the data partition still be available once the fresh system is installed?
