i have win 7 loaded on USB drive when i click on repair win 7. it says there is some problem and there is a window to send the info to microsoft thats it i don wanna do a fresh install of win 7 because i have some data to save..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my desktop (home) and Windows 7 x64 Pro on my laptops. I bring my personal laptop to work which I use for emails and browsing. There is sensitive information that I would not like to share for obvious reasons. I am running into a problem making sure the information is not in "shared" mode while at work.
Work has their own network, which I am unable to connect to because the Sys Admin is lazy and will won't provide me a VPN connection directly to the system. So what I have done is use the public WiFi that we make available to our customers and connect through my own VPN off the public WiFi system. I want to make sure that I am not inadvertently sharing documents or other information doing so. When I connect to the network at work I use the "Public" setting.
What makes it more difficult is I have a similar situation at home, in which we have one internet connection through a router coming in and several people use the system. The location of the router is actually upstairs where I do not have access to, I use a Netgear WNR2000 v2 (I rent out rooms in my house), so I am forced to connect to the router wireless.
I personally am not a gamer, but one of the tenants is. I almost always use my VPN service at home to connect, but I am unsure if this is the correct set-up. I don't want to share my printers, video, etc. with everyone in the house. I am using Norton 360 for protection with Firewalls and Anti-virus software. I connect through Golden Frog VPN service for security.
I am going to connect my desktop Gigabit switch with my devices but again want my system secure, but not limited because of my situation. It is safe using the router for access and then creating this "sub-network" for my devices (for the router I am the admin)? Is there a better method or suggestion that one might have. I would really appreciate the input for this complicated matter. Should I change my workgroup for home and work? Currently its the default WORKGROUP domain for both.
i currently have a 750gb drive w/ OS, everything on it. if i reinstall windows 7 on my SSD will it turn the OS on the 750gb to a windows.old?
i really would like to keep the data on the 750gb and just get rid of the OS on it.
As SSDs are undoubtedly the way to go for the OS and booting, I am curious how one can configure Windows 7 to install on C: yet save all user data on D: (which is where the 2TB drive is). The main reason being the space is limited on C (SSD is only 90GB) and the media structure of the user library with videos, documents, etc can easily span hundreds of gigs.Is the only way to do this to manually change the user location to D:? If so, how is this done?I'll be building a number of systems soon and want to have some sort of C: boot D: user data standard which falls within the management of the traditional Windows 7 Library structure.

I do have my user folders relocated to the d part. Where should I install or set up game directory for my d partition? (Current game I'm installing is recommending c/prog files(x86)/published/game title) should I just change c: to d: even though those folders don't exist, installation will create them? Are steam games installed to different path normally than x/program files. How might future steam game installs affect where/what directory folders? Any program for remapping or whatever would be needed to use an xbox 360 controller for pc games?

today i install windows XP- install audio driver then i open my G DRIVE (my songs drive) to check audio. it was empty then i check its properies it shows.

as usual but it was empty
then i check disk G DRIVE for errors & then reinstall xp on formating C drive
after setup windows second time i open G DRIVE. it was still empty but when i see its properties it says:-

PLZ HELP ME TO RECOVER MY DATA.
I AM ATTATCHING ITS PROPERTIES.
When the final version of Windows 7 is released I am going to install the Windows 7 operating system to my C drive and put my data on a separate physical D drive. I am going to put the temporary Internet files and the Windows temporary files folders on that D drive. What user folders would anyone suggests go to the D drive and what other data and/or folders would anyone suggest to go on the D drive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've been using my 64GB ssd as my windows 7 boot drive and i have a 1TB hdd as my data drive. Recently the my computer has begun to freeze up with errors like "explorer.exe" has stopped responding or "windows" has stopped responding and half of the time when i try to boot it says it cant find windows. This has lead me to believe that my ssd is dying despite being only a year old. I need to RMA my ssd but to do that i would be losing my boot drive for weeks. So I thought id try to create a system image so that i can simply put my boot drive on my hdd, but when i try to create the image it says that the image would be 711GB because its including all of my hdd (which contains all my user libraries and downloads). My question is: how do I make windows stop thinking that my hdd is a system drive so that I can create a reasonably sized image, or more generally: how can i easily move my boot drive to my hdd? Also, I've read some posts about using "easyBCD" to accomplish the latter but I'm not sure that's exactly what i need in this situation.

I have heard that you can ghost a file on the data drive into the x86 folder so that all new installs go there and then you still recieve most of the benefits of your ssd w/o clogging it up. Doing several tests of a series of three emails sent to the same address, it generally does not save the first one but DOES save the subsequent emails. Have run this test several times with the same result. For some reason, it skips the first one sent to an particular address but then saves others sent immediately. However, after an interval of time, another new message to that same address will not be saved the first time it's sent.
The messages are being sent -- I have received those that I sent to myself (to another account) and friends tell me they have received messages that I know were not saved to Sent Items. No changes were made to Windows Live Settings prior to this problem arising. It was working fine a week ago.

I'm using windows Live email and I lost all my saved emails which were serveral hundred. I had a folder in the same root as my Inbox with sub folders and now they are gone. I would like to make a folder on the root directory of my hard drive and save them to that so this does not happen again. I have 3 hard drives so every couple of days I can just copy them over to the other 2 hard drives so this really can not happen again. What a nightmare. How can I do this?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIve been spending the last few days going between many different support forums of windows 7, kaspersky and also yahoo answers in hope to fix this google-shy problem im having with no luck, replies even.when i try to download any application file (i believe they're most usually .exe file?) it opens the dialogue box and i am able to choose location and the file name. Once i have done so it sits at the bottom of my chrome browser until it shows the download is complete. once i click on it, it gives me the standard windows message ''windows cannot find (file pathway and name). make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again''.So I tried internet explorer, i click on the completed download/or even try to open the containing folder and the same error msg crops up again.I changed file locations, even onto a different internal hdd and also i changed the file name before saving, no success.I figured it must be being seen as a virus by my kaspersky (windows defender is switched off btw) but couldn't find anything that seemed out of place to me (but then im certainly no expert with security programs because i just leave them to do there thing).
It was suggested i get hold of the kaspersky's getsysteminfo.exe (being an application i downloaded it onto a friends pc and brought it over via a usb) to send usage, spec and settings report which i did but unfortunately never got a reply from the forum. i looked at the report myself, with little clue what is normal or not... i convinced myself with a little googling that it was the 'nVidia forceware network access manager' causing the problem, i didnt even know i had such a program and it turns out to be a firewall 'software/hardware(!) thingy' i guess as part of my nvidia 680lt motherboard. so i uninstalled it and with that came no success either.btw i forgot to mention files such as jpegs, docs, music andvideo files work fine, i can download them no problem without the file going missing, yet any file for a program such as google drive or getsysteminfo or whatever and my pc doesn't want know.can a registry problem effect one type of file and the resulting behaviour, is it a virus even -kaspersky doesnt think so though.

So, whenever I try to save a picture, or video, or anything like that online. When I click save as, and then name it what I'd like. When I hit save I get an error, and then I hit save again and it asks me if I want to replace it. So I hit yes, then it saves, or downloads the file.

So when I'm on a site and I want to download a video clip I right click, hit save as like I always have then I name it what I'd like and save where I'd like it to go. and that is the error I get. So I hit ok, and then hit save again and it asks me if I'd like to replace, I hit yes and it downloads with the name I give it. I just don't understand why I'm getting this error.
