Nov 4, 2010i have a Gateway M series laptop and a week or two back i had a complete Hard Drive failure, machine wont even turn on now. But that's not my question ( just a little background) well i am going to be upgrading my hard drive and installing Fresh windows 7. Since i was running Vista 64 bit before the crash do I keep the 64 bit? Because i had heard windows 7 64 bit wasn't for laptops only desktops.

Nov 3, 2009I bought a new Toshiba laptop (L300-1DN) for someone this year and they have Vista SP2 on it (obviously fully included with Toshiba drivers etc. which are also on a recovery disk). There is an option to buy an upgrade version for Vista users of Win 7 HP, but I have already bought a full version of Win 7 Pro, and my preference is a clean install as I'm not too sure about the success rate of upgrades and efficiency of the new operating system afterwards...
Therefore if I do a clean install of Win 7 Pro, what's the situation regarding drivers? I was told that Win 7 has many manufacturers' drivers built into it's kernel and that any manual update of drivers should be minimal?

Now I'm running XP and it runs smooth and also boot fast in 25 sec but i m thinking to install win 7 dual boot with xp so will it work smooth like xp on my laptop ?

Dec 28, 2009Yesterday I purchased a new laptop (Dell) and I am debating whether or not to do a clean install of Windows 7 to get rid of all the crapware. I am assuming this is the best course of action and if so is there anything special I need to do outside of just reinstalling and wiping the partitions? I have yet to open the box so I am not sure how much junk is preinstalled but I'm assuming it's quite a bit.

Feb 8, 2012My laptop will not install windows 7 sp1. Every time i try to use windows update to install sp1 it fails. I have tried to find fixes online and so far none have worked. This is the only update I have ever had trouble with. Im running 64 bit. I just tried again to make sure it didn't randomly start working right before i post this. I got an error code 800B0100. I believe that I have already used the system readiness tool and that didn't work either. I also looked into a manual update, but the file names on the download page were too confusing for me to find the one i actually need.

Nov 8, 2012I am having a super hard time with my dads laptop. The hard drive started failing and i put another hard drive in and I cant get it to boot from disk. Its an ASUS laptop and the original recovery is a hidden partition on the failing hard disk. when i put in a windows rescue CD it boots from that. I downloaded a legit version of windows 7 and burned a bootable dvd but it will not work. Ive also tried another bootable windows 7 that i burned (both from iso files) and a bootable unbuntu 12.10 dvd. The hard drive i put in works fine just cant get a operating system on this laptop. Ive changed the boot order in the bios to boot from cd first. I can only get the windows rescue disk to boot but i cant install windows from there (how dumb is that?) my dad never burned the disks to re-install his operating system only the rescue disks which don't boot or have the operating system on it.

Jan 5, 2013Not to long ago my windows 7 laptop started to act up, Going real slow, about half an hour later i got tired of it, and restarted the thing, it then brought up a message telling me to check the disk or something, Doing this did nothing and it failed to start.after a few restarts that screen didn't come up and a new screen came up telling me a recent hardware change might of been the issue, I had no usbs, sd cards, or anything really connected to the pc. No problem, I thought i could just restore it to factory defaults, put in my repair disk and did just that, but it got stuck, at around 7% doing the restore over yielded the same result 7% every time.waiting 20 minutes did nothing. so i decided to run startup repair. Doing so brought up yet another error. saying startup repair could not repair this computer automatically.clicking show problem details said the problem event name was startuprepairoffiline. installing other os's either get stuck during the install or bring up a blue screen. the pc itself isn't making strange noises or anything, temperatures are normal.

I downloaded the Windows 7 64bit drivers for my new laptop off the HP website and the setup goes well all the way to the end when I connect the printer and wait for it to go through the driver install process. I get to step 7 of 8 and it stalls out for quite a while. When it finally completes it says that the install failed. The driver is not installed. I tried this several times. Even completely uninstalled the printer and reinstalled. I then ordered the disk from HP and tried to install directly from it but I got the exact same problem.
