HP Laptop Upgrade From Vista

Dec 26, 2009

I am trying to install on an HP DV6-1063TX laptop computer.

I have runs upgrade adviser it reports 1 issue although I am not sure what it is,

In the System report I get two notices one about MS Mail & Web filtering and one suggesting a visit to HP website, everything else is green ticked so I don't think there are any serious problems here.

In the Devices section there is a ? againnst the HP DVB-T/Analog TV-Tuner but again all else is green ticked.

In the Software section I get a 'Yellow Triangle !' against Adobe Shockwave Player version 10.2.0.023, everything else has green ticks. The problem is that as far as I can see there should not be Adobe Shockwave version 10 as I have uninstalled not only this program but all the other Adobe software as well. I have tried updating to version 11.5, I have used Adobe's standalone uninstall tool for Shockwave but Windows 7 UGA insists it is still on the computer. I have run CCLeaner but all to no avail. Is this the problem?

On the first attempt I had a problem with HPs Keyboard Filter which I understand is related to the HP Quick Launch Button software, I have uninstalled the software and have upgraded to the latest version.

I have tried the installation 3 or 4 times now with the HP software upgraded or fully installed. Each time the installation goes through all the on-line checks, system checks, file expansion etc... only to find that it fails during the final stage. During the last attempt I had the upgraded Keyboard Filters installed and this again caused a problem so I am going to uninstall the upgraded software and try another install although I hold little hope for success.

The fact that the Windows 7 UGA reports a phantom Adobe Installation leads me to think the problem may be there but I have no idea how to solve this as it is not on the machine.

I would prefer to do the upgrade installation if possible as it will save many hours of software installation (after hours of time already wasted on Windows 7 installation), and I am worried that being a laptop Windows 7 may fail with some of the drivers it does not help that I cannot find this laptop on HPs website even though it was bought just over 12 months ago.

I really want to get rid of this Vista installation and hope that someone here can be of assistance, in the meantime I will be trying one more attempt to upgrade after uninstalling the HP Quick Launch Bitton software.

Using An Older Dell With Vista SP2 - Cannot Log In To Laptop?

I am unable to log into my laptop I am using an older Dell with Vista SP2 now.and evidently having trouble with this keyboard.running windows 7 64bit SP1

I accidently set it up that I would have to log in .I haven't found a solution to remove this until last night through a "tweaker" I found.Unfortunately I can't remember the name. They had an option to remove this password which I clicked on. When I tried to log on tonight the log in was still there and on top of that my old password did not work.

Free Upgrade For New Vista Laptop

Oct 4, 2009

So my brother got a new vista laptop recently and it came with a paper saying he can upgrade to Windows 7 for free.

So i go on HP's site (he got a pavilion), and i come across the page where i place my order. But then i find this:

It says it costs 30 euros! I thought it was meant to be free!? 30 euros isn't much anyway but thats not the problem, my problem is also that i cant pay online because i don't have paypal or a credit card!

Isnt it meant to be free? Or is that the shipping cost?

Toshiba Laptop Won't Boot To Vista

Aug 3, 2012

It's my son's (college student) laptop. Below are the details:

Laptop details:
-Toshiba Satellite, model A305-S6916
-Intel Core 2 Duo
-Vista Home Premium
-320GB HD
-4GB RAM

Issue:

-Doesn't boot to Windows. It goes past the initial Toshiba screen, to a blank screen.

Steps taken so far: (the laptop did not come w/Vista CD)

-Followed Toshiba's instructions from the website (hold down 0 (zero) while booting up, keep holding until the screen goes past Toshiba's initial screen, into system recovery. Found few options there, again followed Toshiba's instructions & chose to have a clean install (losing all the data).

-Message popped up: BOOTMGR is missing. Looked it up on Google, went into BIOS, and made sure that hard disk is the primary boot sequence. Still no luck. My son has loads of important class lectures and notes in it

After Update, Laptop Reverted From Windows 7 To Vista?

Jul 22, 2012

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire for the business & I was very specific at time of purchase that it must NOT run Vista as the accounting software I run is not compatible with Vista.

All went well for about a month & then the accounting software started to play up. I contacted their tech support people & they talked me through a few fixes however during these fixes we discovered latent COMPATIBILITY FOLDERS on the computer that simply should not be on a machine unless it is running Vista. I contacted the store I bought it from & they admitted that it had originally come with Vista but had been upgraded to run Windows 7 Home Premium prior to purchase. He told me to come in & they would remove the components that had not been removed properly during upgrade.

I was unable to go in that day but told them to expect me within a day or two at the most however before I could get back (the following night in fact) the computer ran some scheduled updates from Microsoft & when I went to use it the next day it was all sorts of wrong! It didn't even look the same (desktop) & files were missing or moved. When I went to online help I kept getting diverted to Vista help rather than Windows 7 help. I contacted the computer store again & they said that the update may have found these compatibility folders & freaked out & reverted the machine back to Vista.??

Anyway, I have lost loads of files that I had not yet backed up as I was planning to do this immediately prior to taking the laptop back to the shop so I had everything backed up & my accounting software won't work. The shop said they can restore Windows 7 but probably can't restore any lost data as they are only retail...

2. Is my data lost forever or can it be restored by a computer repair technician?

Has Your Laptop Battery Life Improved From Vista To 7 ?

Oct 25, 2009

I recently upgraded my HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop (dv6815nr to be exact) from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium and I can't say for sure but I believe my laptop's battery is working a bit better and longer.

At first, I thought it drained quicker than when Vista was installed but I think I was just speculating, especially since I hadn't had a good night's rest in a few days.

I'm very curious as to whether any laptop users, who have switched from Vista straight to the official release of Win 7, have noticed an improvement in battery life/performance?

Can't Install Windows 7 Or Vista On DV4-122nr

Oct 1, 2010

Wondering if anyone has run in this before. I couldn't find anything specific on the web:

I have a year and a couple month old HP DV4-122nr laptop with Vista x86 Home Premium OEM installed. It recently had issues shutting off randomly, so I decided to do a clean install to Windows 7 Ultimate x64.I have done tons of installs in the past since XP came out and have always had good luck. I tried to do my regular clean install (via USB) and once I got to the "expanding files" part, the laptop would just shut down. I tried it several times, same deal. I then tried installing from a DVD. Again, shut off at random points during the expanding files section.

I then figured it had something to do with Win 7, so I tried Vista. This time I got it to the point where it would restart, but then it would just go black afterwords and show no video.I tried several flavors of Vista (x86,x64,Home Premium, Ultimate, SP1, SP2 and SP0), but again to no avail. I then finally got Vista Business x86 to install, but when I installed the graphics driver, it killed it (black screen). I went into safe mode and uninstalled the graphics driver and it booted normally.

Vista To 7 In Different Language Using Custom Install

May 13, 2011

I have two simple questions, but I cannot find definitive answers .

>I have windows vista business 64bit (language: Dutch)
>I want windows 7 professional 64bit (language: English)

I am going to use upgrade media to upgrade vista to 7.

1. Can I change the language from Dutch to English if I do a custom installation? Answered: yes
2. Is it a 100% clean installation if I do a custom installation and format during this procedure? Answered: read thread

Ad 1: If you do a custom install, formatting the drives, the language difference between vista and 7 is not a technical obstacle. So it comes down to licensing: does Microsoft accept this?

Ad 2: I do not want to use any 'registry workarounds'. But since people are using them, I'm wondering if a custom installation (with formatting during this process) indeed is a fully clean installation. The different tutorials are very confusing on this matter.

BSOD During Install (vista / Win 7) On RAID

Jul 14, 2009

I got this problem and cannot solve it myself for over a month, ANY advice will be appreciated! The goal is Windows 7 64bit with RAID0.

1. Windows XP 32bit installs fine on RAID0 (with proper driver integrated)

2. Windows 7 64bit and Vista 64bit installs fine on single drive.

3. Windows 7 64bit and Vista 64bit on RAID0 give BSOD 0x000000F4 during completing installation stage, then Matrix Storage manager shows RAID0 ERROR OCCURRED.

EDIT:

4. Windows Vista 32bit won't install on raid setup too. Its not the case with 64bits

I tried everything I could think of:

1. exchanged both hard drives

2. tested RAM

3. tried install with minimum pheripherals and 1GB RAM

4. messed up with BIOS, even updated to latest beta bios

5. tried installing intel vista64 raid drivers, tho windows 7 has itself

6. RMA'd my DVD Drive

and still NO GO

Can't Get W7 To Install Over Existing Vista Partition

Aug 18, 2009

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on an HP DV6-1253cl notebook from a USB flash drive and running into problems that are preventing the install. (Note: It's not the rig that is in my system specs.)

When I try and clean install Windows 7 64-bit over the existing Vista system partition (C), I get the following error.

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."

Thing is, setup shows that partition as well as the HP recovery partition and an external USB drive that is also connected to this notebook and offers all of those as choices for installing Windows 7 onto.

Can anyone help me figure out why Windows 7 won't install on the existing Vista C partition and tell me how to get it to install?

Win 7 Wont Boot After Install Over Vista

Oct 23, 2009

I currently have a Vista/XP dualboot on my system.

I attempted to install Windows 7 as an upgrade over Vista, thereby keeping my XP.

The install runs fine however on the final reboot the PC no longer boots correctly.

It displays the "Press anykey to boot from CD" timer and then instead of showing the bootloader (as it has been all the way through setup (Choose XP/Windows 7/Earlier Windows)) It simply freezes.

The only way I have been able to make my sytem work at all has been to boot from the Windows 7 dvd attempt to install it again and wait until it forces a reboot at which point the bootloader is visible again and I can get back into XP.

Ive tried the repair option on the DVD and no joy either.

Can Use Old Vista/windows 7 Install Discs On Another PC

Oct 2, 2012

My Dell PC came with Vista installed on it and physical discs to re-install. I then got Windows 7 for free due to the timing of when I bought the PC. I presume the discs were the upgrade variety, but I don't have them in front of me. I know when I totally reformatted my harddrive recently for a problem, I had to install Vista first and then 7... leading me to believe now that the Windows 7 install discs were the upgrade and not full.I just got the "full" version of Windows 8 Pro from Microsoft DreamSpark and plan on dualbooting to a separate partition alongside Windows 7... to give it a test run.Eventually, I will probably wipe the Windows 7 partition and extend it so that I have my Windows 8 partition and a 2nd partition for files and whatnot.can I take the Vista install disc and then the Windows 7 disc and install them on another PC? I am pretty sure I am doing a full install of Windows 8 (with its own key) and therefore wouldn't be using the Vista key or the Windows 7 key that is tied to the Vista key?
