i have a Gateway M series laptop and a week or two back i had a complete Hard Drive failure, machine wont even turn on now. But that's not my question ( just a little background) well i am going to be upgrading my hard drive and installing Fresh windows 7. Since i was running Vista 64 bit before the crash do I keep the 64 bit? Because i had heard windows 7 64 bit wasn't for laptops only desktops.
i have an old laptop this is completly messed up... it wont start up, and it just goes to a blue screen. i hope some of you know what im talking about...i cant get to any where to where i can uninstall the current OS... if i can i think i can re install Vista, or XP and get it working...
I bought a new Toshiba laptop (L300-1DN) for someone this year and they have Vista SP2 on it (obviously fully included with Toshiba drivers etc. which are also on a recovery disk). There is an option to buy an upgrade version for Vista users of Win 7 HP, but I have already bought a full version of Win 7 Pro, and my preference is a clean install as I'm not too sure about the success rate of upgrades and efficiency of the new operating system afterwards...
Therefore if I do a clean install of Win 7 Pro, what's the situation regarding drivers? I was told that Win 7 has many manufacturers' drivers built into it's kernel and that any manual update of drivers should be minimal?
Yesterday I purchased a new laptop (Dell) and I am debating whether or not to do a clean install of Windows 7 to get rid of all the crapware. I am assuming this is the best course of action and if so is there anything special I need to do outside of just reinstalling and wiping the partitions? I have yet to open the box so I am not sure how much junk is preinstalled but I'm assuming it's quite a bit.
My laptop will not install windows 7 sp1. Every time i try to use windows update to install sp1 it fails. I have tried to find fixes online and so far none have worked. This is the only update I have ever had trouble with. Im running 64 bit. I just tried again to make sure it didn't randomly start working right before i post this. I got an error code 800B0100. I believe that I have already used the system readiness tool and that didn't work either. I also looked into a manual update, but the file names on the download page were too confusing for me to find the one i actually need.
I bought an HP Pavilion dv7 4150si a few months ago but it's started getting pretty slow and the only thing I can think of to fix the problem is a clean reinstall of windows and reformat of my harddrive. Problem is my laptop didn't come with any windows 7 installation disks.
I am having a super hard time with my dads laptop. The hard drive started failing and i put another hard drive in and I cant get it to boot from disk. Its an ASUS laptop and the original recovery is a hidden partition on the failing hard disk. when i put in a windows rescue CD it boots from that. I downloaded a legit version of windows 7 and burned a bootable dvd but it will not work. Ive also tried another bootable windows 7 that i burned (both from iso files) and a bootable unbuntu 12.10 dvd. The hard drive i put in works fine just cant get a operating system on this laptop. Ive changed the boot order in the bios to boot from cd first. I can only get the windows rescue disk to boot but i cant install windows from there (how dumb is that?) my dad never burned the disks to re-install his operating system only the rescue disks which don't boot or have the operating system on it.
Not to long ago my windows 7 laptop started to act up, Going real slow, about half an hour later i got tired of it, and restarted the thing, it then brought up a message telling me to check the disk or something, Doing this did nothing and it failed to start.after a few restarts that screen didn't come up and a new screen came up telling me a recent hardware change might of been the issue, I had no usbs, sd cards, or anything really connected to the pc. No problem, I thought i could just restore it to factory defaults, put in my repair disk and did just that, but it got stuck, at around 7% doing the restore over yielded the same result 7% every time.waiting 20 minutes did nothing. so i decided to run startup repair. Doing so brought up yet another error. saying startup repair could not repair this computer automatically.clicking show problem details said the problem event name was startuprepairoffiline. installing other os's either get stuck during the install or bring up a blue screen. the pc itself isn't making strange noises or anything, temperatures are normal.
I have 3 laptops 1 x Win XP and 2 X Win 7. I have installed this printer on 2 of the laptops no problem, the 3rd l bought today networked fine and can print if the other printer(XP) is turned on. I wanted to install the printer on the new Win7 laptop so I can sometimes just plug the printer into it and print, to save turning other laptop on. But the printer driver will not load!! Each time the installation goes fine, but when l look in printers and faxes the yellow exclamation mark is there. If l connect the usb cable to the new laptop it says installing printer, but then says printer driver not installed.
I recently downloaded a notification sent to my email box by one of these courier companies notifying me of a mail sent to my home address. Little did I know dat it's a virus(an exe file). on running it , It took over my laptop. I was able to control it to an extent but some of my system files has been erased.my laptop refuse to install new updates.
I was installing SP1 on a recently purchased laptop (Acer Aspire 5742) running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Installation was done via Windows Update and was reported successful. On subsequent required reboot, however, the system just hang, at shutdown screen. Some half a day has passed already and I wonder what now, whether I should go for a hard reset and force turning it off, and what would be the proper way to do that, in hope to cause the least damage, both to Windows and the SP install and even the hardware eventually?... I've tried already hitting the power button, even for some more than a couple seconds, but it didn't go off and I admit I became afraid of persisting on that... I've also already read about having to hold the power button for actually some 60 seconds..
I downloaded the Windows 7 64bit drivers for my new laptop off the HP website and the setup goes well all the way to the end when I connect the printer and wait for it to go through the driver install process. I get to step 7 of 8 and it stalls out for quite a while. When it finally completes it says that the install failed. The driver is not installed. I tried this several times. Even completely uninstalled the printer and reinstalled. I then ordered the disk from HP and tried to install directly from it but I got the exact same problem.
I have a new Sony Vaio laptop and every time I log off there are 23 updates to install, it says "do not turn off computer, installing updates" but if I log on and off again even after 5 minutes all these 23 updates need to be installed, I have opened the control panel and chosen a different default time for the automatic updates but every time I log off these updates are showing but they never install
I need to copy and paste a file onto a USB stick for my PS3 but my laptop won't install the device drivers. It tries but fails every time. In my device manager I have a yellow exclamation mark next to unknown drivers but I cant update it. I don't understand, I have never seen it.
I have been using my laptop's bluetooth device to transfer files so right now i want to know how to install a bluetooth driver on my laptop so that i can change the old bluetooth settings.

I have recently bought a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad Edge laptop with no OS and I am having a big problem installing Windows 7. When I start the laptop the windows boots and starts loading files but when the "Starting Windows" appears everything stops... I have waited for hours but no progress. I have tried it many times even from a USB flash drive but nothing.

From experience I remeber on my old Sony Vaio once I had done this, things like hot keys did not work and the battery life was just terrible after and it heated up even more!! dont want any of these things hapening to the new laptop now! or should I just remove software that I dont want.
I'm re-installing Windows 7 on an Acer Laptop. This is not my laptop but a friend of my friend's laptop. The Windows 7 installed on the PC is a cracked version namely Windows 7 Eternity. It was installed by some other guy I don't know. The usb port are not functioning but are working. I plugged in my flashdrive and there is no sign of life but when I enter the bios it shows the flashdrive meaning that it works fine but when Window boots up it shows no life. Indicating a problem with Windows. I've tried everything to fix the ports but the last option is to re-install the OS.
He has giving me a disc with Windows Eternity which the guy give him to install but I'm going to install the OEM instead of this cracked pirate copy. To check if the OEM partition is still intact I've installed the cracked copy and used Diskpart. The OEM partition is still there. I've used the disc to format the drive and then rebooted pressed ALT & tapped the F10 key but I don't get the options to re-install OS. What do I do now? other than just installing the cracked copy. I'm guessing when the ot
