Install Drive Space Issue

I have no idea, the F drive has enough space to install it.

I don't know why they tell me that?!

Win 7 RTM Won't Install On Drive With Plenty Of Space
I am trying to install Windows 7 RTM on a Gateway P-7811 computer with lots of space left open on the drive, and Windows 7 Setup keeps on giving me the message that there is "Not enough space available on the hard drive to install". I had this same problem with the Windows 7 RC1 and Beta versions, and I traced it back to using Easeus Partition Master on the drive to remove a OEM Recovery Partition and combine that space into my primary partition.

While I could do a clean install, there is a lot of information on this drive that I do not want to lose, simply put, and was wondering if anyone else had this problem and, if so, what the fix is for it?

Copied Files From External Drive To Hard Drive Taking Up Twice Space
I just installed Windows 7 and I am in the process of copying backed up files (music, pics, docs) from my external back on to my hard drive. Before doing so, I deleted the Windows.old (although two file that seem to be written in hieroglyphics won't delete...any ideas?), cleaned the disk, and defragrmented. After copying about 83 gigs of data, I looked at my hard drive's free space and it seems to have taken up twice that.

On another note, I noticed that the libraries by default put this data in two locations, my user profile and the public. Since I am the only one using this computer I find that annyoing and would like to delete public but it says I need administrative help (but I am the administrator...again, any ideas?). Anyway, I removed the public locations for music, pics, and docs but it still took up over 160 gigs. Any ideas?

Where Is My Hard Drive Space Going?
I have a 3ghz Phemon, 8gb ram and a 60gb SSD drive.

After installing Win 7 x64 my install was a bloated 20gb. This includes 8gb in the c:windows emp folder that I can't delete. After installing a few apps and games, I have 12gb free. I cannot account for 15gb of "missing space"

system restore is off.

any suggestions?

Unallocated Hard Drive Space
I have a 5610Z Acer Aspire with Windows 7 (32 bit). I pulled a very boneheaded move getting to upgrade from Vista.

I deleted my D:drive (50 G). I back up to a 500 G external hard drive. Is there a way to add the 59G to C:drive where I could use the space.

DVD Drive Space Issue
I was trying to copy a movie on DVD to the HDD to allow it to be viewed on another PC via the media sharing (never done this so I was playing) however Win7 reported that the DVD held 49 Gb of files and it would take 4.5 hrs to copy to the HDD.

I have not had this miss-information problem before on this hardware when it was running WinXP Pro. I checked the DVD media in a WinXP Pro pc and it reported 7.5 Gb of data which I believe as it was a duel layer DVD.

My Hardware:

DVD: Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D ATA Device (SATA interface)
M/B:  Asus P5KPL/1600
HDD: Seagate ST3500418AS SATA

Flash Drive Lost Space
I recently formatted a 8GB flash drive to fit some diagnostic utilities on it in the required file format (FAT) which only accepted 2GB.  Now that I want to reuse all 8GB it won't allow me to delete either partitions or combine them.

Hard Drive - Free Space Issue
I just installed 7 today. I kind of figured it would be like reformatting xp where it just wipes the hard drive clean and you start from scratch. All of my folders are empty but my HD only has 20G of free space i don't know whats taking it all up?

I was counting on having an almost empty HD when it was all installed. Sorry if this is a re-post.

Losing Hard Drive Space With Win 7
So, I've done what I *think* is standard to check this; no spy junk or viruses, did a scandisk and disk cleanup, but I'm still losing a few gigs at a time to the air- 3 gigs today, 3 last week, and a gig here and there-

Is there a way to trace what your computer's downloaded during the day (nothing intentional, I assure you)? I also saw something about a 'shadow file', but I don't know where to check/change the settings to keep my comp from being gobbled up by gnomes.

BTW,this is 64 bit Windows 7 beta, dell studio, and my computer is black (that should help).

External Hard Drive Space Issue
I have a Dell laptop with an i7 processor with 64-bit Windows 7. I have external hard drives that when I delete files from them it isn't reflected in the available space on the drive. Whatever the available space is when I plugged the drive in is what it stays at no matter how much stuff i delete. The drives are from Simpletech,Maxtor and Seagtate the capacity range is from 500GB -2TB.

This also happens on a older laptop I have with 32-bit Windows 7 it has a AMD FX-60 processor. File transfers used to also freeze on this system under Windows 7 until my nvidia 7800gtx graphics card died. It now runs on the motherboards graphic chip but I still have the issue with delete files not being reflected in available space.

Some of these drives were used when I had Windows XP on the older laptop and never had this issue.

Defragmentation Made My Hard Drive Actually Lose Space
Did I miss something? I always thought defrags made more space on your computer by organizing files and making programs run faster

But when I did a defrag, using Defraggler

I went from 83 gigs free space to 79 gigs free space

I even restarted, and nothing changed

I think that's kinda weird .

Or maybe I don't know something about defragging, and its suppose to do that.

Drive Free Space Is Missing In Windows Explorer
What advantage was there in removing this? Why is this better for the customer?

The Status Bar is disabled by default, the people who will be enabling it are technical people who need to get that kind of information.

I can understand if the option was never there before, fine - but you've ACTIVELY REMOVED a feature since Windows 95? What are you guys thinking?

Xp Tablet Edition Hard Drive Space Requirements
im looking into a tablet with a ssd and the option of xp home(but id upgrade to tablet edition) or windows 7. the ssd that is included is either a 16gb or a 32gb. my question is how much actual space is really needed to install these OS'. i know w7 needs 15gb for 32bit but does it really need all 15gb? because then a 16gb would only fit the OS and nothing else.

Old Installed Still Won't Give Up Hard Drive Space
Before I begin, I want to mention that my XP Partition of my 250GB HDD is my D:/ drive, and my storage partition is my C:/ drive. Originally, I was excited about Windows 7, and I installed it on my C partition, because I figured with no Windows install on that partition, it should be fine. With about 25GB free, I installed Windows 7.  It installed fine, but when I went back into XP, I noticed it moved my Documents and Settings (I do use the C partition for My Documents, by that, I mean, I have Windows use that as My Docs instead of on the D partition) and Program Files to a folder "Windows.Old".

So, at that point, I managed to move everything around so that I had my program files and docs/settings back, and I ordered a 500GB HDD to partition and install Windows 7 on, seperately.  I figured, the only good way to get rid of the old install on the C partition would be to format, so I copied all files/folders except for "Windows", "Program Files" (the Windows 7 one) and "Program Files (x86) to my 500GB hdd, formatted my C partition, then installed Windows 7 on the other partition on my 500GB HDD, and copied all the files back to the C drive.

Here's the problem: Before I installed the original install of Windows 7 on the C partition, I had 25 GB free - now, after formatting, I only have 11GB free...  When I moved the files around to get XP working normally again (before I reinstalled 7 on the other drive), I renamed 7's Docs/Settings, and I'm not sure if I deleted it, or if it just disappeared.  The files I copied over are bigger than what they were before the original Windows 7 install. Where would big files be hiding?

Not Enough Space When Loading A Program
I get an error when trying to load some programs in Win 7 R/C. I'm not sure if the error is referring to Ram or Hard drive.

I have 4gb ram and 250gb hard drive with only 1/4 of it being used in my HP 2120us laptop.
Anyone know what this error is?

R6016 - not enough space for thread data

So far I like the new 7 version if I can iron out a few problems like this one.

Not Enough Space For Upgrade Installation
I'm running build 7077 (x86) on my netbook, which has a 16GB hard drive. Windows 7 itself takes up just enough of the drive that there's not enough space left over to perform an upgrade installation to a newer build.

So tell me: is there any way to trick Windows into using an external hard drive (instead of the primary internal drive) for temporary storage during an upgrade installation?

Laptop Uses More Than 100 Gb Space For Nothing
The way i say that as my laptop (HP G71-343US) i've just gotten for a couple of weeks and i did install into it only one thing: The Sage Dictionary but when i checked back my C: partition i only had 92Gb/220Gb free space left. I also installed Opera, Firefox, Yahoo Messenger and Returnil but at that time, there was still about 185 Gb of free spaces.

There are 6 folders in C and none of each of those use more than 10Gb, as i calculate, their total sizes are only about 20Gb, whereas more than 100Gb of spaces has been taken. I also analyze with "HP Total Care" and no error issued or discovered, everything looks fine. I wonder which/what "thing" did that or why C: got so much that used space?

Backup Error 0x80780048 - Not Enough Space
The backup tool is complaining about not having enough space for a backup but it wants 18GB and I have over 88GB on my backup target drive.

Anyone else seen this?

I did see in another forum that it was related to a system restore backup. If that's the case, does anyone know how I can determine how much space everything will take? Seems strange that it's not telling me the entire space requirement. (If that is the case with the restore image)

Not Enough Space On Drives For Backup To Use Vss
I get this error when I try to perform a windows backup. OS Windows 7 64bit.There is not enough disk space to creae the Volume Shadow copy on the storage location. Make sure that, for all volumes to be backed up, the minimum required disk space for shadow copy creation is available. this applies to both source and destination.

I have two drives in my system (both simple disk). OS drive is 320gb drive with 49gb used and a 1Tb drive with two 465Gb partitions. I can write to all drives. Drive two has one 465Gb partition without data and is the target. VSC service is set to autostart and is running.I ran sfc /scannow with no integrity violations.
