(C:) Drive Losing Space On Its Own?

Nov 20, 2010

About 1 week from today, I installed my copy of Windows 7. I had 92.7 GB free of 123 GB by the end of the day after downloading/installing all of the programs I needed. (I'm ocd so I keep track of how much space I have in my (C) Drive after every download/install.So the next morning I turn my laptop on. What?! I suddenly have 90.8 GB free of 123 GB on my (C) Drive?!Now I'm sitting here a week later down to 88.9 GB free of 123 GB in my (C) Drive.Besides downloading/installing the things I needed, I also did Disk Cleanups where I got rid of of my Windows.old files (XP and Vista). I've also deleted all of my System Restore and Shadow Copies in the More Options tab. Could that be the reason why?

Continuously Losing Space On C?

Feb 25, 2012

My system is continuously losing space, down to the last megabyte, even without using it. I've tried deleting all but my last system restore point, and even so, that only uses up 15% so I'm told. I've deleted all unnecessary programs down to the bare essential stuff, I've cleared internet history/cookies often, I've deleted gig after gig of my music until it was gone, and I have virus protection software that hasn't brought up anything major. It's not going away in chunks, just megabytes at a time. I've done everything online I can find, and nothing stopped it, what's happening here?

Losing Hard Disk Space Even Though Uninstall Applications

May 19, 2012

Something on my hard drive is eating up the space even though I un-install applications and then it shows lots of space, but in a few moments that space is gone.

I have run Malwarebytes and deleted a lot of my files that is suspected of Virus/Spyware, yet the same thing happens repeatedly.

What software can I use to ensure I get rid of this 'thing' that is eating away or growing on my hard disk?

Windows 7 Keeps Losing Second DVD Drive

Jan 29, 2013

I am running Windows 7 64bit. I have two DVD drives "D" and "F" both connected by Sata to the motherboard (Asus MA78 Pro).

"D" is fine. "F" disappears! Not shown in "Computer" or "Control panel" I have tried all the registry hacks I can find, together with all other advice from the 'web, to no avail.

If I open the case, unplug and reconnect the power cable, Win 7 will immediately recognise the drive and install the drivers. All is fine for a few days before "F" vanishes again. No alteration to the computer is done during this time.

Windows 7 Losing 2nd Internal Hard Drive?

Sep 11, 2012

I've been running my current set up for roughly two years and it has been fine until recently. My secondary drive for programs, storage, etc. will just disappear. It does not happen on any set routine or anything, just randomly. If I restart I do not get the drive back, however, If I shut it down and plug the drive into a different port it recognizes it again. I've gone back to the same port numerous times so none of the ports are bad.

How To Upgrade Hard Drive Without Losing Data

Jun 6, 2012

I have an HP s5-1200z computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit. I have been reading and trying different things for the last three days trying to upgrade my hard drive. The computer came with a 500GB and I want to use my 1TB instead. The first thing that I did was create a system image and a system repair disc. I then restarted my computer and booted from the system repair disc. I selected my keyboard setup and then received an error stating This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of WindowsI can not figure out why I am getting this error message. Many post say that it is because 32 bit vs 64 bit. My computer is 64 bit and the repair disc that I made is 64 bit as well. With no luck on upgrading my hdd I decided to take a different approach. I then cloned my 500GB to my 1TB using Easeus Partition Master Home Edition. Everything seems to be on the 1TB HDD it stated it was successful. I then removed the source hdd and installed the 1TB destination hdd, I turned the computer on and received an error "bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete to reboot." I also spent many more hours researching this problem, I can not find a solution. Many articles say boot from system repair disc and click repair your computer" when I try to do that I still continue to receive the error "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows"I have read that having more than one hdd connected at once can cause boot errors. But I do not believe this is the case because my computer can only hold one hdd.I also downloaded the Windows Home Premium x64 from mydigitallife to try and repair my pc from there only to receive the same error.

External Drive Losing Sharing Settings On Reboot

Jun 27, 2011

I have two external drives that I'd like to share. I have them mapped as an X: and Y: drive. I go into advanced sharing settings > permissions, and add Full Control for the group "Everyone". I hit apply and it looks fine and dandy. When I reboot my machine the sharing settings are lost.

When the computer initially starts up Auto Play opens for both drives. Not sure if this has anything to do with it though. how to get my sharing settings to stick for both externals?

Hard Drive Partition: Adding Free Space Back To C Drive?

Sep 7, 2012

I installed Ubuntu on my computer a few months ago and created another partition for it on my 1TB hard drive. I didn't really care for Ubuntu so I decided to delete the partition it was on. That might have been a mistake. Well, now there's 87.68GB of free space on my hard disk that I can't use and I don't know how to add it back to my c: partition.

There was another post about this a couple years ago, but I don't understand the instructions and am not actually sure if it worked. Can someone explain how to do this, please? I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'm not familiar with partitioning disks. It was just the one time with Ubuntu.

The computer will display that there is only 3.75GB left out of 300GB. I ran windirstat and tree and it gives me the correct allocation of data. The data matches what is supposed to be on this drive, there is no random file that is taking up 275GB. Leads me to believe that its a Virus, and cannot find to much on the subject

500 Gb HD 2 TB External Drive Says Not Enough Space

Nov 20, 2012

1. I have a 500 gb HD C and using a empty 2 TB external Drive, it gets to a point (different each time) stops and says nt enough space.

2. This stopping of backking up is annoying in itself. So I hit to restart back up and instead of it continuing whare it left of from the other BU it begins a whole new Bakup. This Time I have 2003 zipped files while the last 2 times I had like 316 on one and 988 on another.

Is this just win 7 and its back ups? I have 2 other programs I can use Nero back up and Mameo, should I reformat disk and try one o them?

Low C: Drive Storage Space?

Feb 18, 2013

I'm obviously brand new to the forums so I hope this is the right place for this. I should start with my type of drive; I have a 120gb Cherryville SSD from Intel serving as my C: Drive. Just the other night I had approximately 43GB left in my C: Drive (note this is incredibly low as well, but I was content). Last night I checked again and saw that I was down to 25! I performed a disk defrag and that actually decreased my storage to 23! I am absolutely puzzled as to the cause of this.

The only thing I have done between the time that I had over 40 and last night was update my visual BIOS (having nothing to do with my C: Drive at all) and download a simple XML update for Microsoft Expressions (which was measured in kilobytes). Granted I have done my fair share of updating .net framework and various other updates, but all of my major programs are on my hard drive, not my SSD. To put this into visual perspective, I'd like to share a photo showing around 25GB of space taken that is absolutely nowhere to be found, I find it hard to believe that Windows and a few programs can take up nearly 90GB of storage.

Its to the point where i cannot open many things without the system getting angry. I could always re-format, but other then this problem everything else is find.
