I've done a lot of searches using variations of the above title and came up empty or just plain missed the answer.I'd like to know, if it is not asking too much, the following points:
1. What exactly is the function of Link State Power Management in the Power Options Advanced Settings, PCI Express?
2. What are the implications of using the options available:
a) Off.
b) Maximum power savings.
c) Moderate power savings.
d) Which option is the best selection for my Dell laptop.
I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi've tried to set the option for pressing the power button to 'Do Nothing' so no body can shut the computer, and yet it shuts down by pressing the button, so why is that and how can i work this out?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOver the past 2 years my PC has been afflicted with random power off/power on/reboot events. It will go for months without these and then have multiples of the events in a day. (I had 8 of them 3 days ago.)I assume I have a hardware problem, but nothing has been found and I'm grasping at straws. The time between power off and power on is several seconds.I had assumed this rules out a software cause, but maybe I'm wrong. I know Windows can schedule a power off, but can it tell BIOS (or something) to power back on in a few seconds?I know blaming the power supply is a much more simple explanation, but then I'm left with explaining the intermittent nature of the failure.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

I did a clean install on my new HP pavillion model a6632f, everything works other than I can't get the 15 in 1 reader to show up. There are no unknown devices in device manager.
Any ideas?
I'm running just a standard Hp pavilion dv4 laptop, windows 7 64 bit and i5 core. Two days ago my computer started running at 100% or spiking between random % and 100% on idle, or when I run just one program ( it does it with word, firefox and other small programs).I opened up the task manager and checked to see if there were any background services running that were causing this, to my knowledge there aren't any. The spikes are happening when any program is ran, thus making my laptop extremely slow. It also has a few moments when it has shutdown to avoid overheating.
A list of things I've done so far to try and find/correct this problem are:Disabled all startup programs and services, gone to safe mode, used malwarebytes, spybot and AVG to detect if there was a trojan or virus causing this severe problem. A few anomalies I've discovered that lead me to believe it might be a virus were: Windows defender will not open and is currently off, same with windows security center. When I search google on firefox for specifics such as "cpu 100% or overheating and such" I'm redirected to msdb or some microsoft support website, without it bringing up the google results. It's also done this in general when i try to search any other random sites on google. It's either a very clever trojan or worm or a hardware failure.I contacted HP told them what was up. They just opted for me to send it in and have them replace the CPU and motherboard for 320$ which is kind of ridiculous without them even taking a look at it. When this problem initially occurred and I checked what processes were running at the time, there was one SVChost.exe file that was tagged as "bit-coin miner". I stopped it, but yet, I know that some people are out there hijacking other GPU with bots to mine for bitcoins. That made me thing that it could be a virus and not a hardware problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Pavilion SL3850 that freezes up multiple times per day. When it freezes up, the system is not reachable though the network, and the keyboard does not react on events - the numlock led does not change. The screen remains frozen, with all text and images displayed as it was. There is no mouse response anymore. The system is running Windows 7 64x. The fans are working, and I checked the system and memory with the HP diagnostics tools. I also replaced the root hard disk and restored the system through WHS. I also tried restoring the system to a month before the problems started, but it froze just as frequent. There is no indication in the system log about the freeze, apart from a report that it has stopped unexpectantly. This stop time is at the time of the freeze, not at the time when I switch off the system to reboot it.

View 5 Replies View Relatedmy laptop has been working fine for the most, occasionally the screen would go weird and turn white with horizontal lines moving and i planned on getting that checked out soon, but today it wouldn't start up. i turn the laptop on and it goes to the Starting Windows screen and the windows logo never shows up and then it tries to do a system repair and it can't solve the problem. i'm not really sure what else there is for me to do. there aren't any system restore points i can use and i can a check disk that did nothing. i wanted to try turning it back to factory settings and backing up my files but when i tried to do the file back up and it was creating the back up files i got an error that says "HP Recovery Manager failed. Error code = FFFFFF0C."

I just installed Windows 7 Beta on my HP Pavilion dv5t and notice that my quick launch buttons don't work at all.
The mute button does work, but does not turn orange when muted (like it did in Vista).
The volume and WiFi buttons work correctly in Windows 7.
I have tried installing some of the HP drivers, but no help.
Anyone have any ideas?

I recently posted a problem relating to my pci-e wireless network card not being detectable at all by windows 7, while when i go back to vista, it works fine. This means I can't get Internet for Windows 7, leaving it useless in many ways. Now I tried every single driver that's listed on HP's website (Select software and drivers*), and whenever I try to install any of these drivers, it always comes saying that my system does not meet minimum requirements.
My system is great, (I'll post stats below), so I know it has to do something with the drivers not being capable with windows 7. I tried running all of them in capability mode (Vista, XP, so on), with no luck.
Does any one have any suggestions on how to get this Network Card: (Ralink Technology Corp Ralink Technology Corp pci-e network card) to work with windows seven? Maybe Im not using the right driver^^look at website above, so if Im not can someone lead me in the right direction?
Overview: My computer's running windows vista and windows 7(on another partition), does not pick up my pci-e network card while running windows 7. I tried the drivers from the website listed above that has all of the latest drivers for my system on windows 7 itself, with each one saying my system is not compatible (9998) <<that must be error code. Tried running them in capability mode, didn't work. They all worked on vista.
p.s. i tried driver wizard with no luck.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 Ultimate onto my HP Pavilion a810n, but cannot get the XP drivers to work with it. I really only need the network driver to work so I can access the internet. I have tried extracting the drivers to a folder and tried to add it using the "device manager" manually but that does not seem to work.
It would also be great to get the motherboard audio/video drivers to work. Not that important since I have an external sound card and an ATI All in wonder Video Card.
