View 1 Replies View RelatedI had it plugged into my laptop when I was blowing it off and putting a copy of XP Pro on it. When it said to delete the partition, I clicked on the USB drive on accident. Now plugging it into Win 7 computer, it wants to format it. Is there any way to get my files? I have one word document in particular that has been my life's work. I had not backed it up in over 2 months.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOkay, so I go to do a fresh install of Windows 7 on my machine as I have sveral times. I booted from the Win 7 cd and it came to the hard drive selection page. Here's where the trouble started. I have two identical 2TB hard drives and a 3TB drive in my machine. My gut told me to unhook my 2TB drive that I use for photos and music, the other 2TB is my data (C) drive. I said to myself, "Self, you have done this so many times, no problem". Well, problem. It deleted the partitions on my data drive. It never formatted the drive though. After the first reboot, my (C) drive booted and I knew that I was in a heap of trouble.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Home Premium, 32bit laptop. So this started with my accidentally deleting the 'My Documents'. At the time of deleting, i think it showed, My Documents is too large for recycle bin. That's why i can't find it there. (I have tried 'Recuva' to recover deleted files, but 'cause i'm not much of a computer literate, i didn't know what files to retrieve and what to leave. Though, from the files i did bring back, most are corrupted, overwritten or something.) Also, after My Documents got deleted, under 'C:Users', a padlock has appeared on my '(User Name) Folder' - but 'Public Folder' is fine. As i clicked 'User Name' properties, the 'Share With' showed - 'Nobody'. {other options available were 'Homegroup(read), Homegroup (readwrite) and Specific People'}. Shouldn't it be showing - 'Advance sharing' ?Thus, i thought maybe restoring 'User Name' folder to its previous version would work. When i did that, it said - not enough memory. i tried again, 'cause i knew there was more than half of its total capacity available. {I regularly keep a check on it.} But after repeating the restoring process, i again got 'Not Enough Memory'. Later, when i opened the C:Drive it really showed that suddenly the drive was low on space- very, very low. i tried 'disk clean' and deleted most of the things from there. Then i opened C:Drive to check. Instead of making more space, i saw 3.62 GB of Free Space lessen to 2.72 G.B ! However, i still tried for the forth time to restore 'User Name' folder to previous version and got the same regretable 'Not Enough Memory'.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy CD/DVD-Rom drive is unresponsive (it opens and closes normally) and does not show up on Device Manager.I read a guide that suggested that I have corrupted registry entries. It told me to delete UpperFilters and LowerFilters.I deleted the two entries (and possibly others in the same location).
Good news: I backed up my registry
Bad news: I backed up my ENTIRE registry (oops)
So far, everything appears to be the same... Except when I open iTunes I get an notice that says the registry settings needed to burn and import CDs are missing.I've been told that I can import the entire .reg backup and "hope that all goes well". It sounds rather sketchy and I am seeking better help.I've also been told that a wire could have come loose but I want to fix this registry problem before opening up my PC. I hope it doesn't come off as leaching by coming here solely for making a help thread.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA folder has disappeared from an external hard drive, as confirmed by plugging it into another computer and checking, searching for several filenames it should contain on all possible drives (with hidden files shown), and searches with Recuva and testdisk of deleted files. There is no discrepancy between the size of the remaining folders and the reported size of the folder that contained it along with the remaining folders.
The drive in question is a 2TB WD Mybook external that may be showing its age- another folder had a cyclic redundancy check error, and the folder in question developed one several weeks later. I'm making plans to move my data off and have already duplicated the most important files on it.When the folder developed the CRC error mentioned in the previous paragraph, I ran scandisk. It was after running that utility that I found it had disappeared, so that is the most likely reason. However, the other folder remained (with error unfixed, eventually resolved by using testdisk to copy the folder to another drive.)
Honestly don't know y I deleted it but, I was cleaning files from my drives while in Linux and I deleted the system volume folder from one of my hdds and now all my data is inaccessible. Haven't touched the drive since, would like a surefire way to get it back. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 Home Premium on an HP p6654y. I also have a Western Digital 160gb "My Book Essential Edition" external hard drive. I am trying to remove duplicate pictures that are in my Windows Pictures Library and also on the ext. hard drive (they have the same name on both drives). However when I find a common one and delete it from the Windows Picture Library, it also deletes it from the ext. hard drive! I did not expect the files to be 'related', and therefore any action I took on one file wouldn't affect the other.'
View 4 Replies View RelatedI distribute Microsoft Access developed software and the program relies on locating its backend .mdb file. I find on Windows 7 that even if I delete a file and it appears to be gone, it seems to be stored somewhere. I need to be able to get rid of the backend database file for good.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am constantly running into issues trying to delete files--mostly .exes. It really interferes with many "autoupdate" programs like Steam and Origin. I have to use safemode to install updates... It also affects other things like compiling; I get occasional (essentially random) errors when the output file already exists and I want to overwrite it. I also can't delete the affected file(s) for a long time--often upwards of 1 minute. However, if I wait long enough, I can eventually delete the files. The error is always something like "you don't have permission blahblah." I have tried those unlocker programs, and while they can sometimes delete the file, an autoupdater (for example) can never actually write the new copy, even though I don't see the file in the directory.
I have tried running programs as administrator.I am using an administrator account.I have UAC dsabled.I am not running an antivirus or any program that should be interfering.I've tried changing folder permissions as per multiple guides I have read (some from this site).None of the above does anything..This problem has been plaguing me for almost 1 year. I have reinstalled Windows 7 twice in that time, and the problem exists from the get go. I have been using Windows 7 for over 2 years, but I never had this problem until my second to last installation. I don't know what changed.
i have just deleted my partition. this is due to a usb virus- all fun.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a new computer. I had my User Account setup, had a password on it. I was making sure Windows was up to date, had to restart, then restarted on its own again(I'm assuming part of the update), and when it booted back up, it said my account has been disabled. Please contact your system administrator. I can sign in under Administrator, or Other User. The password I set up with my account doesn't work for Administrator. Is there a default password?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI won't go into details for my asinine behavior in running a cleanup that deleted many important files. I can't even recall the program I used because it was a while later that I realized the mess I'd created...Anyway I have been reinstalling/updating programs for several days and am left with two big glitches.First, I no longer can launch IE. I actually use Firefox but need IE for my work site. I have uninstalled it from Windows update several times and reinstalled without success. I then had the idea to download and install Explorer 8. I figured I could then upgrade. Unable to install that as it was apparently "unsupported"by Windows 7 (32 bit).
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Windows 7 to my SSD. Its only 64GB so I set Windows up so that the Users folder was on my seconday (X drive instead of my SSD, and setup a Program Files and Program Files (x86) on my secondary drive. I used this. I deleted the account I made when installing windows and accidenally clicked delete files as well. This deleted all of the data I had in my Users folder and many in Program Files and other places. I used Recuva, but now all of the deleted files are in one folder instead of their respective locations. Is there anything I can do aside from reinstalling and salvaging what I can and reinstalling all of my programs?
