View 1 RepliesI recently sent my laptop to HP for a fan repair and before I sent it off I accidentally deleted my Downloads folder and then cleared out my recycling bin.Well, I got my laptop back today and went to download a few files. After doing so, I realized that I can't find those downloaded files. I have no idea where those files went. They were .rar and ZIP files and I can't seem to locate them. Does anybody know how I can find those downloaded files (where they might have ended up with the Downloads folder gone) and how I can restore my Downloads folder

View 1 Replies View RelatedA folder has disappeared from an external hard drive, as confirmed by plugging it into another computer and checking, searching for several filenames it should contain on all possible drives (with hidden files shown), and searches with Recuva and testdisk of deleted files. There is no discrepancy between the size of the remaining folders and the reported size of the folder that contained it along with the remaining folders.
The drive in question is a 2TB WD Mybook external that may be showing its age- another folder had a cyclic redundancy check error, and the folder in question developed one several weeks later. I'm making plans to move my data off and have already duplicated the most important files on it.When the folder developed the CRC error mentioned in the previous paragraph, I ran scandisk. It was after running that utility that I found it had disappeared, so that is the most likely reason. However, the other folder remained (with error unfixed, eventually resolved by using testdisk to copy the folder to another drive.)

Let's say you have a directory in which there are some additional directories (folders) and some standalone files. When in that directory you select details for your viewing mode. Right click on a standalone file, select properties and you'll see the file size. Do the same for a folder and you'll see the folder size. This tells you that the information about the size of the file or folder is present. Yet when you select view details, the size of the standalone files is displayed but the size of the folders is not displayed.The only reason I can imagine Microsoft does this is because they make a bunch of money when people like me get so annoyed with this that we buy software such as folder size (which I use). But I didn't pay one dime for the folder size software, as I got it free from a third party vendor. So the reason can't be because they make a bunch of money selling the folder size software.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to change some (but not all) music file details even when I have the ownership. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have done all the usual stuff. Right clicked on Properties, gone into Security, checked I have Full control. I have then gone into Advanced and changed the ownership to myself and still nothing. The only thing I think is strange is that there seems to be several entries in the Security tab on properties, and for that matter in the Advanced bit, of users/groups with similar titles all connected with me. For example 'steve (steve-PCsteve)', which is the one I usually use for ownership.
Also 'Administrator (steve-PCAdministrators)', which has ownership of a few files. Last is 'Users (steve-PCUsers)'. The is also 'Authenticated users', 'SYSTEM' and on one file I found 'WMPNetworkSvc'. All of these are usually listed on the Security tab and usually in the Advanced section. I have managed to change some music files to my ownership and change the details but not all. I have all my music on an external hard drive and on my C drive. Don't want to loose such a briliant collection now do I.
Why are certain details, such as Frame Height, allowed in Windows Explorer when looking in a specific folder, but are missing when searching the contents of the same folder?For example, I'm inside a folder (in details view) of video files and ask Explorer to show details of Frame Height. It will show that for certain file types. But when I search for one of the files by name, the Frame Height will be blank for the same file it just showed me the info for.

2.Subsequently I made the locker invisible using "Folder Protect" software.
3.When I was trying to add more files to the locker created in 1 the locker tried to "increase it's size on the run"...
4.This process failed and "Folder Lock" shut down and since then I cannot locate the locker anymore on my PC nor can I see it in "Folder Protect"
5.Having read on a forum, I uninstalled "Folder Protect" and reinstalled...but that did not help..I still could not find the Locker.
6.I even uninstalled and reinstalled "Folder Lock"...even this did not help
7.I understand the lockers created by "Folder Lock" are UNDELETABLE.
8.Clearly my locker is somewhere on my hard disk but I am unable to locate it.
I'll give an example: two files, names 1st_file.avi, 2nd_file.avi, nearly same size, at different locations. Now I deleted 1st_file.avi and 2-3 weeks after deletion, I open 2nd_file.avi (which wasn't deleted) and find that instead of the original 2nd_file.avi, the contents of 1st_file.avi are being played.How can the contents of 1st_file.avi mapped onto the the contents of 2nd_file.avi?

When I returned the screen was scrolling in what I'll call dos mode and stating "critical error deleting file. I pulled the plug in panic before I saw what was being deleted and from what drive. I removed the second drive and rebooted no problem. Is there a log that shows what files were being deleted?

Once it was empty I deleted it but every time I open my internet browser it pops up again. I am using Mozilla Firefox and have checked the download settings but this folder is not named in any path that I can see. I also checked WMP but it doesn't appear there either. The only other program I used this folder with was Movavi to convert the video files to MP4 but it's not showing up there either.
