i have only 1 account , administrator ( my name)when i click start , above documents there is my name , and an icon/avatar that i did decided may i change my name , for example capitalize the letters (example name to -> Name o name to -> NAME ) ?

The music file I used for the account was could not be found and when I went to locate it I was told I didn't have administrator rights. I went to Control Panel because I was sure I was an Administrator, but sure enough, I was set as a Standard User. I tried changing it up but it wouldn't change. I tried changing the account name also, and it wouldn't change. I could only change account picture. I can't open UAC, I click it and it blinks but nothing opens. I deleted any recent program installations,I booted in safe mode, however I was still not able to change my account,I tried activating the hidden administrator account but I received an "access denied" message,I tried creating a new account but I received the following message:"The specified account name is not valid, because account names contain the following characters: /[]":;|<>=+,?*Please type a different name."I didn't use any of those characters in the account name.I ran 2 different virus scans, and they came up with nothing,I turned the computer off, unplugged everything, and pressed the power button for 30 seconds, and rebooted, but still nothing!My roommate shares this computer with me, and her account is still an administrator. However she has traveled and I haven't been able to get hold of her yet. We share music files and the file I was trying to use is in her account.why my account was changed and how I can change it back?

My problem is i have 3 accounts registered and i am the administrator.The other 2 are user accounts.I use to awhile back be able to access the "change your user account,Change your account type,and manage another account" feature.I cannot for some reason any more,i click the short cuts and nothing happens.I tried searching the net and didn't find anything that could help me out.

4. Edit the exported .reg file to find and replace old user with new user.

I notice in User Accounts it says the name change is for Welcome screen and Start Menu. Why can't we change the User folder name?Is there any option besides to delete account and start over? View 9 Replies View RelatedI was at my Math class and my roommate texted me telling me my computer started to freak out. The computer turned itself on and the fans went extremely loud and a clicking noise started. I have a Sager Clevo P150. So I get back to the room and my computer was off and everything seemed fine. I started it up and my sticky keys were not set. This happened before though, sethc.exe was not in the right spot. I fixed this before by putting it where it correctly goes and allowing full control to my admin account. I tried to do this again and it would not let me. I went to User account and found out my only account on this computer is set to Standard. Don't ask me how this is possible, so now I have no admin account on my own computer and I don't have full control over it. I tried bringing up the command prompt and manually activating an administrator account by doing: net user administrator /active:yes and my access is denied because I am not an admin account. I then booted my computer in safe mode and tried to access the admin account that way. Which there was an admin account but a password attached to it. The password is not what my password is and I did not set any other password because there was always only 1 user. So what the hell do I do?

The salesman assured me that all previous user accounts and information had been removed and the computer restored to its factory configuration before I took delivery. However, when I boot it up from a cold (power off) start, I get an error saying that the password entered for user Kiosk is invalid. Kiosk is apparently the name of the default start up user account. My workaround is simply to switch users to the administrator account. The Kiosk account does not appear in the list of user accounts in the 'add or remove user accounts' tab in the control panel. The Kiosk file folder in the Users folder is empty. How can I change the default start up user account? The store did not create a password reset disk.

Admin- 'A', Standard- 'S'.
When the logon screen appears, the admin account 'A' is selcted by default i.e. a border surrounding the username, everytime I've to manually select my account and enter password.
I just want my account 'S' to be highlighted by default when the logon screen appears. And no, i don't want to use the automatic login option. Just what I mentioned above.
I haven't discovered a way yet of switching a POP3 account to IMAP without deleting and re-defining the email account in Outlook 2010.IMAP is a better way if you access the same email account from multiple machines. If the account was originally defined with POP3 there doesn't seem any mechanism to change it to IMAP without deleting and re-creating the entire account.
This means backing up and restoring all the messages, address books etc before doing this -- a bit of a pain if you have to do this for 50 - 100 users and their email accounts.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows 7 ultimate and am trying to install some software off of a secure server at a remote location to my hard drive. The install fails every time because the my user account (an administrator) does not have full write permissions to the program files directory. I have tried taking ownership of the directory, but I don't have permission to change it from TrustedInstaller.
I turned on the built in administrator account and logged in through that, but there is no difference in permission level. When I attempt to change the permission level I get the following error dialog box: An error occurred while applying security information to:
C:Program Files (x86)
Access is denied
Then the following: Unable to save permission changes on Program Files (x86)Access is denied. I've been fighting with this for three days now and I consider myself pretty adept at typical windows bs. Yes, my UAC is set all the way down. That was the first thing I turned off. I also tried shutting down virus protection and firewalls to no avail. Any help here would be awesome since none of the posts I've been able to find say what to do when the admin can't take control from TrustedInstaller.
i have windows 7 x64 in my dell precision notebook.i have administrator user and tommy user.tommy user is in admin group. but not able to execute any program but its account type is standard.then i logged in as administrator and went to UAC there i try to change the account type of tommy user from standard to administrator.....as soon as i click the administrator's radio button. the "change account type" is disabling...its not enabling.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe computer (Notebook, Home Premium) had an option to press ctrl+alt+del to log in, and I wanted to change that, so I went to netplwiz and unclicked the option to require users to press ctrl+alt+del to log in.I restarted and then I realized after Flash player tried to update that the computer is telling me to enter an administrator password but there is no place to enter the password. After that, I also realized that the only user on the computer who is supposed to be the administrator, is shown as a guest account.While I was unclicking that option in netplwiz; I saw that the only user was defined as "boinc, administrator". I didn't much care about that at the time; could that boinc thing could be the reason for the only user being change to guest from administrator?I had to restore the computer like 2 weeks ago because of that (It is not a main computer, so it is not being used that much).How can I make sure that this 'guest' thing doesn't happen again when changing system settings?Is the 'boinc' thing the reason for this? Could it be another thing?
